The latest 4g63 runs 18psi stock.. the 3rd gen 3sgte runs.. uh i think 12?

the evo 9's run 21psi stock, not 18.

evo 8's get up to 20psi

tuned with a turbo back exhaust, its safe to run both the 8's and 9's at 22-23psi on california 91 octane

i havent seen the internals of a 3sgte in person, but i took apart an evo8 engine last night. the block is of good design, and the main caps are incorporated into a girdle for the bottom of the block. many people add similar girdles to their engines(v8 engines from my experience) to improve strength. evo's 4g63 already has that. the rods looked like a strong design. the ring lands on the stock pistons were also big, huge in comparison to subaru engines. the cylinder head is also very well designed with smooth flowing ports.

but it has been said earlier in the thread. the main reason why evo's react so well to simple mods is the turbo, its pretty damn big for a stock turbo.

my friends 9 hits 20psi bone stock, but your right, from the factory they are tuned to spike to high boost at around 3-4k and then drop off. now that he has an exhaust, its at around 22psi. with a simple ecu flash mbc, and exhaust, they make 340hp at the wheels smile.gif

yup

i tuned a 2006 evo 9 mr a week ago.

it had o2 housing, turbo back exhaust and a air filter. 336whp on 91 octane

i hope to be tuning my friends evo 9 in a few weeks, he has ported and coated manifold, o2 housing, turbo back exhaust, high flow cat, lower intercooler pipe, bigger FMIC, and a KN filter.

i have tuned a 3-4 evos in the past few weeks, almost makes me wish i had one, but when i'm done with my WRX i wont have that problem

I like how people who have no idea what they're talking about and know nothing of the drivers and their cars are saying stuff like "oh its not fair with a Celica that much HP increase over the ST" as if the STI is unmodded, and "the supra driver isnt gunning it" obviously he is, and "if they were racing longer the supra's turbo would kick in" how long a race does that kid want. 1/4 mile is the race.

But damn.

run what ya brung. if you lose you lose to the faster car/better driver. no need to make an excuse biggrin.gif

and yea, high power RWD cars go nowhere on the street(drag racing) unless running slicks and doing a VHT burn out. in the case of a high power supra, powerband and gearing are all wrong for 1/4mile

hey guys, i dyno'ed my WRX with the most current setup tonight

old setup

UTEC
FMIC
short ram intake
water injection
1 step colder plugs
up pipe
turbo back exhaust
walbro 255

245whp 240wtq
91 octane 100% water injection

current setup

AEM EMS
FMIC
vf39 turbo(stock sti turbo)
840CC injectors
walbro 255
1 step colder NGK iridiums
header
up pipe
turbo back exhaust
water injection
short ram intake
sti 6spd

91 octane with 100% water injection

301whp and 286wtq

my car is dead even with my friend's evo 9 that has manfiold, o2 housing, turboback exhaust, intercooler and lower intercooler pipe k&n filter and a reflash(cars with similar setups regularly run low 12 second 1/4 miles)

in my garage right now is a 2.5l STI engine. hopefully by january the build will be complete

its gonna be a mosnter, fully built 2.5l with ported heads, cams, springs valves, EVERYTHING, and a GT35R turbo

im shooting for a reliable, no sweat 450whp on 91 octane, and atleast 550-600whp on race gas. expect me to post a 10 second time slip in the next six months wink.gif

i voted Evo, but i wouldnt get an MR.

i could go to south coast mitsu and pick up a new 2006 evo 9 for ~$28,500. in my book the evo beats out the STI because it is cheaper, handles better, looks better, and its faster and gains more power mod for mod.

i have driven a MS6. its ok. STI's and EVO's feel a lot faster. also from what i have heard they have cooling problems which lead to vastly inconsistant performance.

GM used to be the largest shareholder of subaru. they have since liquidated most of their subaru stock. toyota picked up a lot of the shares and now toyota is the biggest share holder.

electrical problems.

i'll take a blown motor over electrical problems any day.

as for the trade, i honestly we go into the garage and test every single wire on the car before i give up. after that, swap out the ecu and injectors

Dad is almost the exact way but if he found out I had 8 guns he would of kicked me out by now

hehe

the men in my family love guns.

as a joke i was walking around with one of my guns tucked in my belt, saying i was ready to greet my sister's prom date who was supposed to arrive in about 10 min.

my grandfather and his brother laughed hard, said i was a good man, and asked to see the gun. hell, everyone thought it was pretty funny, except my sister laugh.gif

and i did put the gun away when the prom date finally arrived.

now for the original topic

there pretty much is no privacy for me in my house. all my mail is opened before i get it, my mom always calls me to see where i am and gets mad when i forget to tell her that i am leaving. she wants to know every thing.

does it bother me, not really. i am 20 years old and im used to it. it bother's one of my friends, oddly enough. he is always telling me to make my mom stop. i really dont care, it makes her happy and comfortable to know where i am all the time. she never tries to stop me from doing anything, just tells me to be safe. that and as far as im conserned, if you are living at the expense of your parents, it doesnt matter how old you are, you are at their mercy.

depending on mileage and how well the motor was taken car of you probably wounldnt need to reinforce the motor.....but be aware it will eventually blow up on you or wear out the motor, as with all F/I

with a 50shot, it shouldnt do too much harm to the engine, especially since it is a low compression engine that is barely making power as it is.

it will probably wear out your wallet pretty fast tho, its hard not to use it when you have it installed. thats why i took the nitrous off of my WRX

I mean, the first two were full of toyos and Hondas and the Third one was focused on Nissans (even if the last shots were with a ford with a Nissal Engine). Heck the first one even had a jetta. But Subs, nowhere at all. I hope they are not waiting for FnF 4!!!!!

Oh yeah, and Mitsus were in all of them.

mitsubishi is a major sponser of all 3 movies. that is why there were no subaru's in the movie

you must be crazy, subaru's are extremly reliable cars. Not sure who told u they have alot of problems. And whoever stated STi drivers are punk rich kids, I feel sorry for you. Go to www.iwsti.com and do some research. Im assuming you based your 'theory' from watching videos on streetfire.net.

my car hasnt broken anything so far and im making ~100whp more than stock. even ran a 70shot threw the car multiple times.

QUOTE(LewFX @ Aug 21, 2006 - 10:55 AM)

who would want an evo with only 16mpg, thats almost H2 numbers

um, maybe because they get 20mpg? my friend has a IX, he drives fast and accelerates pretty good everywhere he goes and gets 17-20mpg.

if i was driving his car, it would get 20-22mpg, same as i get in my wrx. this is all city driving btw. freeway he gets 25-28mpg, i get 27-30mpg

and an h2 hummer gets 8-9mpg. they purposely mae the car as heavy as possible so that the car falls into the same class as f250's and 2500+ series trucks, all of which are not mandated by the government to have a minimum MPG rating and they also dont have to show what MPG they get on the window sticker.

QUOTE(Glitch001 @ Aug 21, 2006 - 11:51 PM)

by the way, the wrx in reliablity issues, why is it called a "glass transmission?"
I dont like subarus due to their owners, ive been proven wrong but most of them here are stis running on mommy and daddys credit cards here in socal. I can throw links around to. Nasioc.com, people who bash their OWN fellow subaru owners. Yup, your right, mature to the end.

Nasioc is a horrible forum. nuff said

its called a glass transmission because in 02 and 03 they were weak. 04+ trannys are quite a bit stronger. there are people running as much as 400whp on the stock 5spd. and there are also people that break it with stock power

my 5spd in my wrx never broke, infact, i have only met 2 people in person that broke the stock 5spd. one was one of those guys that breaks it with stock power, the other BEAT THE LIVING CRAP out of his 02 transmission. 6krpm clutch dumps and hard shifting, it lasted through almost 3 years of that and finally broke at about 60k miles because he put in an act 6puck clutch. i drag raced my car with the 5spd way too many times to count, launched the hell out of it, and oh yea i finished learning to drive MT on the car. i have the sti 6spd now, sold my fully working 5spd for almost half of what i bought the 6spd for.

damn near all the STI's i see at the local meets are driven by guys in ther mid to late 20's, some maybe even early 30's. if i see an sti driving around, its usually a 30+ year old guy. its rare for me to see a 16yo driving an STI. the youngest person i knew personally was a 20yo friend of mine, and he paid for everything himself. the 16yo's get WRX's, srt4's, honda's, lifted trucks

the reason the rev limiter didnt do anything is this

it is meant to prevent the engine from accelerating itself past a certain RPM, it has no control over how the gearing in the transmission can accelerate the engine if you miss shift. the ECU cut all fuel out shortly after you passed the hard limiter, but the momentum and gears forced the rev's up.
