QUOTE (njccmd2002 @ May 22, 2016 - 9:35 PM) *
i picked up one from a camry, and the bearing was different.

The bearing I could see being different but was the actual hub different?

Took out one of the studs from the Solara hub and its knurl measured .557". The IS300 ARP studs I have are .558"

Also came across a hub manufacturer in PA.
SKF. They have listed on their site a hub that fits a 94-03 V6 Camry and 99-06 V6 Solara. I just saw it as good info that he hub will fit but I will also call to see if they also do the weird stud bore.

Got some hubs from the yard a couple weeks ago. Will be gently taking off the races and taking off the surface rust off the hub faces.

Will be doing a couple exterior mods. I have gone 10 years without doing any sort of lip or whatever and am a little nervous as to how these upcoming bits will look. Keeping one of them as a surprise because I am unsure of how the end result will look haha

The rest are dependent on whenever the Group Buy from Funked gets in.

I am also trying to work out some engine bugs, besides the loud valve tap I have been getting, the engine is now running rich off throttle around 13.8-12.4. It idles fine (14.8) and sporadically runs lean around 17.3 when I apply light to medium throttle at lowish rpms while cruising.

Once I figure out that issue I am going to start messing around with composite materials to hopefully get enough of a know how to make my own rear diffuser. I havent been able to find an off the shelf diffuser that meets my size and shape requirements so I decided why not just make my own

faulty injector/s

Brother had a similar issue on his Allex 2ZZ-GE. Because it was OBDII he could use the HKS OBD link and a phone app, he could see the short term fuel trim levels and long term fuel trim levels were off and dirty plugs and a rough idle, took the injectors out, had them clean and inspected etc. Spray pattern was off on one, still had the issue.

Its something that I could check, but might as well just get spare injectors and have them cleaned and pop them on. Less downtime.
I wonder if the ECU would pull back the duty cycle if I were to put in larger injectors. Im an not sure what voodoo this ECU does

all of a sudden though? It was all gravy before.
Id sooner get an EMS before I got a stock airbox.
I will just borrow the one off of Red when Im up at CSP

Strange question but just checking the obvious first. How's the MAF look? Any chance a drop of oil from the filter made it into the MAF?

I havent checked but see no reason why there would be oil on it. I will check though and spray some MAF cleaner on it just to cover my bases.
Its a dry filter so no oil needed.

Aw man, a standalone and MAP conversion would pull up premium a week before Race Wars

took a break the last week and made a new LED top stop. Excuse the disorganized mess. I give no f's #stancelyfe. I like the results more than the round LEDs I used with the other one. Ill try and get a vid up laters.

took off the inner races off of the hubs I snagged

One hub is in much better condition than the other but they are both useable.

I highly doubt it'll make a difference, but do you have the 96+ center reinforcement thingamajig that go along the rear seats...

Also concerning power. A recent memebr on here did blacktop with redtop components and pulled 190 whp with a custom made header and full exhaust.

While a stock SS3 makes 169whp. Thats a 21hp increase, but 10 of that is to be accounted by internal components of blacktop. And 5 hp from header/bpipe and 5hp from decat and larger exhaust piping. Which means ecu is only accountable for an measly 1 hp and perhaps better air/fuel ratio meaning better mpg.

I know im not crazy because ive seen many best motoring videos and b series motors and 2zz motors get 13ps increase in power. Which is means ecu does nothing really...

Why do people say ecu really opens up beams motor. For me it would only seem that it would help manage better torque curve...

I can find the link of the bolt on parts output I speak of

they did a blacktop with redtop components? That seems a bit backwards as the Blacktop is the more feature rich engine of the two. And a different driveline configuration lol

As for an ECU, I have heard alot along the same lines. Usually most motors are conservatively tuned with the factory ECU and I cant say whether or not the BEAMS is the same way with its ECU, but I bet it is nowhere near its peak. I bet with a very smart tuner and tuning safety parameters set, you can squeeze alot more out of the motor. How exactly that is done, I hope to see soon.

But I can say that for most of the people with the motor, spending $2k on an ECU and maybe $1k for tuning isnt worth it for MAYBE 30whp gain.
I see it as more of an investment to have complete control over the engine. Something that would really be helpful. Im not the kind of person who pops in a motor and calls it a day, I like to tinker and (hopefully) improve

http://toyotamarket.ru/jp/252170/003/3/6101/1/61305/

61305-20150 REINFORCE SUB-ASSY, CENTER BODY PILLAR, LOWER RH

ok go ahead and look at C-One celica rally vs Integra Type R techno pro spirits on BEST Motoring

both cars received a 10ps bump in power. to me it seems the ECU is only there to manage whatever parts are bolted on or added to engine as long as you don't open it up and mess with cams/timing and compression ratio when you have a N/A build. turbo on the other hand is a different story.

the C-One rally team and Techno Pro Spirits are well known tuning companies in japan. so you saying a very smart tuner can squeeze a lot out of the motor is not believable. If you've watched best motoring, the show always leans towards honda builds, B, K and F series motors. so you know the tuning companies, which build the engines quite well, don't withhold power(even though they do with toyota featured vehicles when it comes to internal components).

the Integra type r from that video does have the valve seats ported from factory by hand, because i've seen the integra type r video featured on Best motoring, just saying.

2K$ ecu is something like motec. I know you can get a AEM unit here in the states for $850 if im not wrong plus the tune. So you saying 20-30whp from a tune alone is not possible with simple bolt on's. even the ITB from 4age on beams redtop has only seen a 20hp increase from numbers posted on MR2 board beams sub forum

so yea need some proof sir... to prove whatever knowledge i have as wrong.

If you have any basic tuning knowledge, you're aware that Toyotas (and especially the BEAMS) are tuned to run pig rich. Lean it out safely and run slightly more aggressive timing and you'll see immediate gains. There's a very popular saying in tuning, "lean is mean." Too lean is dangerous, of course, but the BEAMS has plenty of room for improvement. Not to mention the Redtop was tuned to always assume the MAF is sitting in the stock intake, causing power loss and issues running if you use any other intake. A simple standalone allows us to start modifying the BEAMS. Is it cheap? Not necessarily, but the BEAMS factory ECU holds the motor back significantly. Can't learn everything from watching Best Motoring videos on YouTube. Gotta look into other resources too.
