Ear plugs BECAUSE RACECAR. Even at 90 db you're not supposed to expose yourself for more than an hour or two a day, then at 100 db it's like 15 minutes. I'd imagine it's somewhere in the 90-100 db range inside the car on the interstate, so technically yes ear plugs should be used for longer durations.

is it really that loud that you require ear plugs to drive the car?

Ive been told the car is very loud haha

yeah I use them for trips longer than an hour or two. Without them I am completely drained from the noise, vibration, and heat

Good call. I drove my Miata home from Arkansas with a hole in the exhaust. I had fainter hearing for a few days and I think (what?) I might have done lasting damage.

Cool racecar you got! I would pick up another DD though.

took a break after a really busy couple months with driving the car from meet to meet and show to show all over the north east.

I got a little screen time on a Vlog I follow on Youtube. I never thought theyd talk about my car among the sea of stanced show cars haha

Vacation from car life was going all well until I took the car out for a drive and ended up breaking my diffuser off while backing into a spot that had an oddly angled curb. Of course my car is so loud that I didnt notice until it was too late.

A week after that I backed into a dumpster at a car meet. It was the same color as the night sky so I didnt even see it.

I was upset about the whole situation so I decided to make a big diffuser out of dibond instead of waiting till winter to make a CF one.

dibond

someday I want to refinish the rear subrframe

I silicone sealed all the seams on the underside so its "air leak free"
Should have it fully mounted by the end of the week.

annddddd...

Its really really REALLY big hahaha
I need to redo those back mounts there too

Friggin purists hahaha

so far its still intact. Ive lost maybe a couple mm's on one side from misjudging the height of some water valves in the mall parking garage haha
I am going to see about trimming the diffuser down a bit and fine tune some of its design when the car is up this winter. Its still going to be big as hell though

Happened upon an idea that I may play around with this winter. Had a conversation with a friend about it way back when and just remembered that it would be a neat small mod.
Putting it on my thread so I will remember to do it.

Master cylinder brace, I've seen them before for the Miata.

The firewall is not that flimsy that pushing on the brake is going to push out your master cylinder.
you used to have such good things....what has happened!

Like Boxy said, in the Miata world these are recommended and I plan to do one. I have SS lines waiting for install. You think the Celica firewall is stiffer?

I like the diffuser but I wouldn't put it on my own car, Eff anyone else's opinion beside your own, I applaud you for doing something different in the Celica game.

Indeed do your own thing, and really everything done is based in physics and in the pursuit of bettering some aspect so I'm all for it. I'm sure most will think I'm crazy for taking a handling, braking, and aerodynamics over horsepower approach with the Firebird, but that's what I want to do to try and make my ideal car.

I remember the firewall flexing on my old MK3 supra when you smash the brakes pretty hard. Picked up a brace it fixed the problem. Trying to get one for the Mk4 as well. Carbing makes a strut bar with the brace built in, but it's only for RHD applications. :\

So much negativity. I think it looks sick. I wouldn't personally put it on my car cause it would look out of place, and I don't race it, But I think it suits your car really well, and its functional too, which is what you were going for.

Keep it up!

Everyone lay off Mike.

Just because he's doing crazy, extreme, unusual, wacky, almost stupid things to his car and he feels like he has to touch and modify just about every part on his car it doesn't mean we should make fun of him. It's his business to do whatever he wants, even if it makes other people sad.
