6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ [update 10/18/2015] shigexile's Preface SS-Four

Posted by: Shigexile Feb 11, 2009 - 12:30 AM

First i wanna say thank you to Martin (Malpaso) for his support. I had plans of doing this before but never had the funding and a problem with the seller in UK for a long time. And then Martin completed his SS-Four bumper and by looking at his pictures, it solved all the probems i initially had. tongue.gif Thank you Martin, you the man!

So i finally got the bumper from UK after many complaining and off i go to the body shop where i used to work during the summer

I got paint and body stuff for a cheap price since i was their best prep guy they had biggrin.gif

For some reason, the grill didn't lineup perfectly... but not noticeable

The things i still need to do (exterior wise):
1. Paint the bumper "teeth" back to black
2. Paint my UK splitters silver
3. Exchange the high beams seal because i "accidentally" painted over them
4. Put the rear ss-III splitters on after paint
5. Getting my rims in about a month or so (and tires)

Do you think i should paint the bumper "teeth" back to black? I'm kinda getting used to it being painted...

C&C welcomed

Posted by: whatthe Feb 11, 2009 - 1:03 AM

Gorgeous , is that a stock celica colour? it looks amazing, ss-four all the way !! Your photography skills are amazing too !! The teeth i dont know, i think it will look good either way, tho i do like your foggies yellow, gives it a massive jdm feel. What rims are you planning on going for?

Posted by: trdproven Feb 11, 2009 - 1:13 AM

That looks killer, I always wondered when somebody would do it with the preface. Why don't you get the teeth covers. It'll look much cleaner. what about putting the little rectangular vents towards the bottom of the front grill in between the mouth and the grill. Good job though, much props

Posted by: azian_advanced Feb 11, 2009 - 1:43 AM

that looks great.. i like how it still maintains the curvy elements of the celica, not as aggressive as the gt-four but looks more serious just with a modest face. i'd keep the front splitters black..

Posted by: whatthe Feb 11, 2009 - 2:35 AM

Yeh keep the eurou splitters black, I like how you relocated the license pate. Did you do some modding on the front bumper too the area along the bumper repeaters to where the stock license plate seems alot more flatened...

Posted by: 808celica Feb 11, 2009 - 2:53 AM

damn that hella sexy.. smily face with an angry look laugh.gif

Posted by: Random_Stranger Feb 11, 2009 - 5:09 AM

That is sexy as hell! I see another unique master like Malpaso here! That is so damn sexy! Only addition I can think of is making maybe a custom grill and taking out those middle pegs? But even with, it looks really good. I am really liking what I see.

Nevermind I see it is already pretty much done! I love it!

Posted by: malpaso Feb 11, 2009 - 5:10 AM

Wow... I must say that is amazing work. I'm glad I had chance to help. It looks so different! And you are right it looks good as it is. In this picture looks simply unbelievable:

Definitely agree with painting those Euro splitters silver. But I'm not sure about "teeth". It looks really good this way...

btw.: what about clear front turns and fender lights? (sorry I do not know how you call those outline amber lights in US smile.gif)

Posted by: vincent_doggy Feb 11, 2009 - 5:28 AM

Paint the fender as well...

Posted by: playr158 Feb 11, 2009 - 7:05 AM

looks really nice, I think I side with Malpaso on the leaving the "teeth" silver.
bumper to fender needs to be blended, looks like the silver shades are off.

Posted by: Culpable04 Feb 11, 2009 - 7:06 AM

Looks great !

I'm waiting for better weather to have something like this done to my celi.

Excellent work.

Posted by: Shigexile Feb 11, 2009 - 1:26 PM

Thank you everyone for such nice comments biggrin.gif

whatthe: Yeah, its the stock silver. I did clay bar my car prior to taking these pictures. Plus the lights in the garage brings out a little blue tint to it. And about the rims I am getting a set of ADVAN RCII 17x7.5J +35 in silver. The flatened out bumper in the front is explained below wink.gif

trdproven: The rectangular holes was the main part of the st204 bumper that was throwing off the alignment so that is why i had to eliminate that part.
Actullay trdproven, i used your picture to make a photoshop image of this concept lol thanks, you had the UK splitters with preface, side skirt, 17in rims and the exact angle i was looking for.

malpaso: i couldn't of done it without you! The front turn signals, i want to keep them amber so it will look more stock (plus finding clear bumper lights are hard for the preface celica) but i might consider the fender lights wink.gif

vincent_doggy & playr158: Yeah i have like 3 to 4 shades of silver on my car right now as well as 2 different vin numbers BUT i am planning to go BLACK or a LEXUS SILVER in couple years so till then this will do

Shig, you made my car look good, why couldn't you photoshop it into real life. JJ. Im gonna use that pic and tell my friends thats my car now. haha I was about to say those rims look like mine until i looked at the background. But indeed the grill and the hood makes a huge difference - changes the look entirely, you put the preface bumper to good use.

Thanks luke! Yeah i think i should paint the splitters too but there are some ppl saying to keep it black. I'm considering both right now. We'll see we'll see... leaning towards painting them like you said

Your car is already really great wink.gif One of cleanest ones out there. There was something about it that attracted me to your car.

you know at first i didnt know what to expect but my god, this looks amazing!

Posted by: trdproven Feb 12, 2009 - 6:18 AM

I say paint the splitters shig because its not like its a lip they are seperated, plus when I painted mine because I ran it black for a lil bit, it looked more better, it becomes part of the car.

Posted by: Shigexile Feb 12, 2009 - 6:07 PM

yeah, i decided to paint them because like you see in the picture, you can't see them enough to notice them. If it was silver then at least you will notice that something is there...

Thanks manny, you helped me out with the wiring of the projectors remember?

Posted by: trdproven Feb 17, 2009 - 7:54 PM

Shig how did you do your wiring? How I did mine was pretty clean, I took a 9006 heavy duty harness and merged it with an H4 (pretty much the same as H1). This way I created an OEM looking 9006 to H1 Harness adapter.

Posted by: Akirad1 Feb 18, 2009 - 10:16 AM

i love it, looks awesome.

Posted by: terqui Feb 18, 2009 - 7:55 PM

Get the clear high beams when you can bro, it will pull the whole car together.

Still looks awesome and unique either way though.

are you talking about the HIDs? I had Culapable's HID GB on prior to having the projectors and when i put the projectors on i just bought just the bulbs from him. The bulbs and harness mated perfectly so it was a clean swap.

Posted by: Shigexile Mar 26, 2009 - 6:53 PM

finally had time to paint my rear SS3's

I ordered 199 paint online

sanded down original paint, then primer and paint

clear coat and baking stage
at least 3-4 layers of clear coat but the reflection was sharp enough

you can see the reflection of the heater, good enough for me

due to the bolts that hold these in the rear snapped on me, i used double sided automotive tape.
taking off the old double sided tape was a hassle but finally got it off

from the rear

I need to do something about the duck tail... its not a perfect fit so its lifting up on some parts... double sided tape or epoxy i guess

The color was a perfect match for my rear bumper but not so much with the rear fenders.
As some of you may know, i have a total of 6 different celica's body parts on my car so i have about 4 different shades of silver.
But don't worry, i will be going lexus silver or black in the future so until then, this will have to do.

A badger? gee thanks, i don't know if i should be hurt by you saying that or just feel insulted and deal with it.

Yeah, other people suggested a lip too but it didn't look clean with the current choice of lip. My original plan was with one on but dropped the idea since the prototype image on photoshop.
I currently have euro front splitters on now and still need to paint them and see if i like them like that, and am in the process of photoshopping other front lips onto the car.

but sadly, don't have the flexibility of money now. Just bought seats for the driver side not too long ago and spending money on my girl's 7gen to fix it.

I don't know if anyone responded about this already but instead of painting it black Toyota actually has inserts that goes into the teeth. Thats why one of my teeth is silver is because i found out there were covers on them. I've been meaning to take pictures of it. ( don't know if anyone has already done it yet though)

yea they are just covers, regular toyota part number. But shig you need to find the rare magic or euro lip for the preface and then BALLLAAAA!

Posted by: Shigexile Oct 28, 2009 - 2:08 PM

yeah i'm aware about the inserts for the teeths, someone mentioned them to me, but i decided to keep them silver for NOW. (still need to toss my options around)

i already have a photoshop version of the EUROU lip on the car. As of right now, i am 95% sure i am getting one, or try to get one. One concern is that it makes it look more like a genuine st205 and less the SS3/Gt-Four hybrid version hence loosing the "uniqueness". They look so similar that even members on here wont notice its a GT-III (my version of ss-four) conversion without someone telling them so.
as of the aeromajic, it was my first choice back last year when getting all the parts together. I didn't like the look, i thought i would but it just didn't click for me. I also did c-one lip too but that looked just oh so hideous.

i'm in the process of putting those photoshop jpeg up on my blog.

will post them here too after i get out of my lab

http://shige204xile.blog.shinobi.jp/Entry/34/
but i'll just run through the basics here:

here is a picture with the magic lip. I liked at first but the more i look at it the more i hated it

Then i decided to go with the EURO splitters:

but after doing the conversion, i notice that the front splitters are still to high compared to the skirts and it doesn't show very much. And people will suggest me to get a lip even thou i have these on (meaning they can't see them! too small! need to paint!! or change them!)

and before doing the conversion, i always liked the EUROU bodykit look
so i photoshopped them with the gt-four hood

I love the look and its my favorite out of the choices i have and i am almost certain that i will be buying this (or try to) lip anytime next year, but then again, compare it to the genuine gt-four

they are almost identical.

other issues are that if the lip will go too low compared to the skirts...
in that case i don't mind getting the EUROU skirts either but...

... i'm lost

Posted by: TiGZ461 Oct 29, 2009 - 4:34 PM

I love the stance and the look of the 6g with the magic lip, I would defintaly get that to complete your look. But since you don't like it the last lip isn't a bad choice either.

Edit: Strange my post came out as a code

Posted by: trdproven Oct 29, 2009 - 7:19 PM

I don't think so shig, the lip shouldnt go lower either higher or equal. In fact just to let you know the toms lip i have is ~1.5" higher than my sideskirts. Thats why i assume the euro lip will be either equal or higher. But even if it was lower, its best to have the front the lower part of the kit rather than the sideskirts as you mentiond.

^^^ I love that old skool pic of my car haha. but see why i changed out my splitters? both types even? I needed a full lip solution. The splitters are never level with the skirts or to the front to the side and never complete.

this is what have happened since the last post.

Some things i had laying around for over a year and through out last year and this past few weekend, i have installed just about everything i had pilled up.

1. I finally got around to taking off the bumper and switching out my hi beam's rubber

2. Painted the euro front splitters to silver

3. Got center caps for my advans

4. Installed TRD steering wheel from an ae111

5. Installed TRD quick shift v.2

6. Visited my parents and friends in japan, came home with Laile Beatrush F/R strut towers

7. Finally got my seat rails which took forever, I put in the brixII seat

only thing left is to wash my car... only one car wash this year thumbsdown.gif

Got a deal because I directly went to their engineering facility and told them i'm bringing it back to america so for the front + rear i got them for just under $300. initial cost would have been in the $500 range since laile is the sister company of c-one.

It feels good to know there is someone out there using my picture and car for their wallpaper, thank you.
I used a spray can from http://www.automotivetouchup.com/. They have the paint code for our cars. The paint is a little off do to my original pain faded with sun but results are pretty decent.

Thanks!
Yeah, a lot of my car buddies HATE silver with a passion. They say its not a sports car color. (Who said a celica is a sports car? tongue.gif )
Love black, it makes our car look so much better but they fade over time and swirl marks are so visible with black. I was thinking about repainting it black but then i would have to paint the door hinges, engine bay, and all the hard to get places that i won't be able to do myself. I want it to be a "complete" paint job (since i don't want the ghetto paintjob where only the outside is painted black and when you open the door all you see is silver...)
White is nice if i had a full kit on and also white gets dirty easily. I'm not at a place where i can give frequent car washes to make her look sharp.
Red? I have a friend that drives a red integra and he's always competing against me so i would try to stay away from red lol.

Reason why i'm repainting the car silver:
Even when the car is dirty. it looks clean.
No extra paint needed for engine bay, door hinges, etc.
I'm repainting it to a Lexus silver so it should SHINE. (yes all CAPS)

Posted by: Shigexile Jan 12, 2012 - 2:44 PM

Haven't posted in months but the celica is at the hospital for the first time in 8 yrs of owning it.
It finally breaks something that I can't fix in the parking lot and this winter is not helping.
Such a bad time to break but it did well for the 8 yrs owning it.

Looking back at 2011, there are still numerous things i need to fix:
1. My carbon fiber wrap attempt was a FAIL. Need to re wrap it.
2. Ducktail spoiler won't stick to the hatch anymore. Thinking about just molding it on there but I still have the EURO spoiler block. Can't decide which one.
3. The fog light's wires caught on fire. Need to re wire it with thicker wires.
4. Still can't fix my horn. Just might buy an aftermarket one.
5. Not 6gc related but my 2002 GTS was totaled. Having a hard time finding a white exterior/black interior IS250 6spd in this area.

Hope 2012 gets better from here on out.

Posted by: Neon90424 Jan 12, 2012 - 2:51 PM

You need this horn

Posted by: Shigexile Jan 12, 2012 - 2:55 PM

^ I'll take that into consideration thumbsup.gif

Posted by: richee3 Jan 12, 2012 - 2:58 PM

The silver '02 that was at the meet is totaled? That sucks. What happened? Hopefully nobody was hurt. What's wrong with the 6th gen?

Posted by: Shigexile Jan 13, 2012 - 3:18 PM

My girl was driving across a street with no traffic lights, then a car came and hit the front passenger side causing her to spin around the way she came from.
Luckily she is safe, but the other driver had some neck injury. Her fault since she didn't yield but the guy was speeding. Also he never showed up in court so the ticket was lifted.

That 7th gen have seen two major accidents in the 1.5 years owning it. Its probably possessed. Time to move on.

As for the 204, its electric issues. The alt is done for, and most likely a short somewhere. Fixing the alt is easy but its the grounding issue that is too much work to find (especially with my work schedule)

BTW, I'm thinking about taking some winter pictures of my car in downtown soon so if anyone in the area is interested in a photoshoot tell me.

I love my Bride BrixII and all but I always wanted the stock Recaro SR3 ever since I first saw my neighbor's Gt-Four in Japan.

So I've been browsing ebay even after I got the Bride and FINALLY I scored these:

And before anyone asks: No, I will not be selling my Bride seats.... I plan on keeping it as my office chair or connect it to my Logitech

How awesome is that biggrin.gif

If I find time I may do it. I happened to have a, uhh, small altercation with a city bus and there's a gash of an inch or two between the passenger headlights. If I refinish the bumper, I may as well mod it.

amazing is every single person who used "SS-four" design has in fact unique car because:

- my one is "facelifted" on 1996 ST205
- Shigexile has (as only one btw) "pre-facelift" on 1994 ST204
- sarintr "facelifted" on 1995 ST204 http://www.6gc.net/celicas/ss-4-8225
- vidmav has on JDM SS-III (1998 ST202) also "facelifted" http://www.6gc.net/celicas/1998-ss-iii-hatchback-10789
- and palooke used it on 1996 ST204 convertible with slightly more from GT4 bumper... http://www.6gc.net/celicas/ss-four-c-4594

The same idea but always bit different results in the end. AT200 one is missing in the list smile.gif

Posted by: Shigexile Aug 29, 2013 - 5:34 PM

I actually started to work on my car again after neglecting it for a while.

First off, I actually sold some of the junk I had laying in my garage back at my parents' house.
I took off my brushed aluminum center dash vinyl thingy and back to the clean stock black panels.
Also replaced my windows switch panels too because I did a horrible cf wrap to them.

Old news but I installed my Recaro seats before the Starved Rock meet.
And as planned, the Bride BrixII went to my logitech so i can play GranTurismo5 in it.

And finally installed vincent_doggy's bling bling mirror polished kick plates.

Something I finally came around doing last week was my horn. I haven't heard it for over a year!
I was surprised to find out so many people with aftermarket steering wheels are driving without horns. Probably the reason why the how-to information was scarce on the internet...
I followed a fellow http://www.alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=19891&start=1515 and "borrowed" some wires, sheet metal, and tools from work.

Next up is to fix my fog lights (not working), climate cluster (really dark), and possibly the hardest to do: Take that stupid bug out of my projectors....

Posted by: cheela Aug 29, 2013 - 8:04 PM

LOL!!! laugh.gif omg, that would BUG the hell out of me. Don't know how you're going to get that bug outta there.

I guess they didn't have the proper tools because all I saw was crow bar damage on my interior panels.

I'm guessing the HID were stolen because they tried to unhook the batteries (which they also failed to do) and saw the HIDs sitting there.

They weren't going to leave without taking anything....

Not celica related but 2 weeks after my car got broken into, my girl's EVO MR got stolen. Happened in the same parking lot at my condo on the night of april 9th northwest suburbs. Ipass shows they went east towards chicago through the tolls on i-90 by cumberland.

People in the chicagoland area, if you see a graphite grey evo 9 mr with a COBB exhaust, scratches on the rear bumper passenger side and dented rear driver side door let me know please.

My breaking in and her theft are most likely the same group of people says the police.
One of their car is a maroon dodge durango with a banner across the windshield and the other is a silver van.

Thanks for reading bc I'm really furious about this. No one makes my gf cry.

Found the EVO in Chicago in one piece. I haven't seen it in person yet but according to my gf, everything seems untouched.
As for the Celica, window is fixed and HIDs ordered.

What I learned this year so far, not many of my friends give a crap about my Celica but they care so much about the Evo lol.
It can't be helped. Only a Celica owner really knows the true greatness of a Celica smile.gif

Seeing CheeLa's and Richee3's progression I feel like I need to get back in this but sadly, you won't be seeing much until I sell my condo and buy a house with a garage!
Hopefully this year thou, I'll get her lowered with spacers.

I met up with bloodMoney at a local car meet but he was disappointed on how I still had the stock rims instead of the ADVANS.
"Shigs, you really NEED to change the rims. It just doesn't look right" LOL

As I mentioned here, I don't feel safe to park my car here at my condo (especially with the ADVANS on) so I opted for the next best thing I had... GTS rims.
But the GTS rims too weren't in the best of conditions so I took the time last weekend to clean them up.

Rusted up GTS rims Before and After sanding

Yes, I didn't want to take the tires off... index card is your friend

Side by side comparison of 1 coat of base and primer

Applied 2nd coat

Now 2 coats of clear and the baking (well sun baking) stage

The results were better than I expected! Now, I hope I won't be embarrassing any Celica owners. LOL

LOL

The Celica looks so cool with the SS 4 look. How easy was that to do? I live in Chicago btw and I'm sorry to hear about that B & E bs... That happens way too often around here

Chicago? Then you should come out to the Midwest meet this summer.

Yea when the date is set I'll see if I'm free. I got nothing to showoff though, but I'd like to see what others have done to their celicas.

Quick update...
1. Got that bug out of my headlight
2. Swapped out old ripped up shifter boot

But I still feel that I have yet again neglected the car for a while.
So here is a list of things I'm forcing myself to do before next summer:
1. Finish my wide front fenders
2. Add the front lip
3. Sell my euro front splitters
4. Fix my fogs
5. Black headliners
6. Repaint the whole car
7. Restore my ADAVNs
8. Get rid of the springs and go full adjustable suspension so I can finally drop it.

Let's start off with repairs thou: I need to do a parking brake overhaul.

pretty much living at work.
Most of my projects' SOP is at the end of the year so I should be able to go home earlier in the next coming months.

I can go to meets, spend some quality time with the car, find what parts to buy (gun, compressor, etc) and work on my list.

Drove home in the snow wearing the Potenza 760 last night. Fun at first but not when the snow starts accumulating on the road. Time to change to the the Yokohama ice guard. Its that time of year again when your hatch falls on your head.

I also changed my shift boot to a carbon fiber like fabric since the old one was in a bad condition

I also replaced my parking brakes. Take a look at how bad they were!

I was surprised how expensive parking brake cables can go for.

I'll most likely need new rotors for the rears soon. Any recommendations?

Get these. Got sick of hatch falling in my head. Finally replaced mine two years ago. They've been awesome.

And wow. Those rears brakes. Lol

Old news but I wanted to update this thread...
So I finally got rid of my eibach sportline and KYB GR-2 setup and got the BC Racing BR type with swift spring upgrade.

Not too much of a difference but it is much stiffer.
Dropped it a little too low with the 20mm spacers so it rubs often. I need to roll my fenders soon.
Anyone know where to rent them?

Posted by: bloodMoney Sep 12, 2016 - 9:33 AM

Do you still have the old setup? What's your plan with it?

Posted by: Shigexile Sep 12, 2016 - 7:34 PM

No i tossed it. Front shocks were shot and rears were going to go soon too. Springs were pretty rusted up.

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Sep 12, 2016 - 8:51 PM

You got the track coil overs and upgraded spring. You taking to track?

Damn. I needed some junk to throw on the 'vert, so that I could keep my stuff before junking it.

Got some tweed and redid the headliner. Use polyester for the sunroof trim.

Going to work on the sun visors next. Looks sloppy now but I'll touch it up as I piece it together.

Sweet! I should do mine but I'm afraid of the sunroof hardware. How hard was it to get around? Looks good.

You do need to take the sunroof out of the car but it's pretty straight forward. I think 10 bolts or so. Having a friend helps a lot.
