6G Celicas Forums _ Engine/Transmission/Maintenance _ help with radiator

Posted by: Athorn Nov 18, 2009 - 6:27 PM

I got into an accident awhile ago and havnt been able to fix the celica since. There is a hairline crack on the radiator (the top plastic piece). I want to fix this without having to buy a whole new radiator. I was thinking jb weld but am not sure if it can stop up to the heat. What do you guys think.

My old rad did the same thing, although under different circumstances. I used this Permetex crap, it kind of reminds me of that putty crap billy mays sold. Although I think its supposed to be used as a temporary fix. Something to hold you over untill you can get a new radiator.

My radiator cracked when i was on a 3.5 hour trip to my grandpas cottage, i sat at a gas station for 5 hours waiting for the jb weld to harden up. 45 min later it cracked slightlty so i put another layer on waited 2 hr's and hit the road.

Im goin to get straight to the point, the resevoir is plastic you cant weld it, and any adhesive material wont be strong enough against the heat and pressure, Buy a radiator off rockauto (what i did) for 130$$, For a radiator i learned after having 3 layers of jb weld just tryin to drive 1.5 miles wont even work coollant will steam through
