Hi there, I have a question, I've been getting pressure into my cooling system, I just finished doing a 5sgte swap with a 4th gen head.
Before bolted the head on, I had a machine shop check for flatness, They said it was good, So went with there word. So put the engine together, and then ran it and I was getting a lot of pressure in the cooling system, so I then pulled the head, took it to different machine shop, and I said just go ahead and machine it flat. After it was finished I asked the machine shop guy how warped it was, He told me I only had to take out only a little bit, He said the same thing, It was probly ok. So I then reinstalled it,but I used copper spray this time, Its all together now, But I haven't filled the cooling system yet. I had a thought, I think there was nothing wrong with my head or head gasket all along, Is it possible for the turbo to blow some kind of seal were it will put boost into the cooling system?????? Let me know Your thoughts on this and if anybody has experienced this. Also yes i'm using ARP for the head. |

The turbo can't pressurized your coolant system. The cartridge keeps everything seperate. How do you know what your coolant pressure was?

The turbo can't pressurized your coolant system. The cartridge keeps everything seperate. How do you know what your coolant pressure was? I know that the cooling pressure is to high because it blew a radiator hose, so i replaced it, then it blew the next hose, then a hose that i replaced, the hose blew off, so i had to double hose clamp it on both ends. So i'm sure its to high on pressure. cylinder pressure can do that. how fast is it happening? 2 times at the drag strip it happened like right after i did a burn out. So id have to say thats only 30 seconds. And i dont have any cooland / oil mixing of any kind. |

Has the radiator been replaced? If it's old it may have a blockage in it, that or the cap could be defective.

I wish it was old, because changing a radiator would of been a quick easy fix, but its just about brand new all aluminum racing radiator. I'll be filling the cooling system tonight and see if my headgasket actually fixed it or if this mystery continues. Thank you everyone that has msg me. |

I choose not to drill any water jackets, I paid the money and got the ATS racing head gasket that they have designed. http://www.atsracing.net/Parts/Details/E-5S-HEADGASKET This post has been edited by toy8490: Apr 9, 2015 - 4:30 PM |

do a coolant hydrocarbon test to confirm a headgasket compatibility/cracked block issue Ya i have a hydrocarbon tester with the blue dye, I'll do that soon. So lastnight, i finished filling the cooling system with water, I let the air get out of the cooling system for 1/2 hour, I then capped the sytem and drove the car with some boost, I then came back and opened the hood and felt the radiator hoses, they didnt feel as hard as last time, and my tempature gauge wasnt fluctuating. My heater works good also. But i'm still uneasy thinking its fixed yet, I'm going to drive it one more time and then let it cool off again, then retorqe the head bolts. If the weather is good, This sunday i'll be taking it the the 1/4 mile track, So i hope this air is gone. |
