I am getting ready to do a 2nd Gen 3sgte swap. Need intercooler and not sure which route is the best way. I have a preface with preface fogs, I was looking at the front end today. I don't think I have enough room for piping with the fogs? For the people who have a front Mount, can u guys post some pics of the piping and specs of the intercooler please.

I used 2.25" pipes, and kept the fogs (post face lift though). Drivers side just goes under front and up behind the radiator, passenger side goes through where the air box was, under the fuse box and into engine bay. Will try to find pictures from my build.

Did not need to remove anything, including air con.

edit - not sure if I am allowed to post this, sorry mods if not and please delete.

Link to my 3sfte build thread, shows some of the intercooler route http://www.celica-club.co.uk/forum/index.p...n-thread/page-4

intercoolers are just that, get one that fits! measure the space between the fogs and find one online that works.

Water cooled is a pretty good option if you don't mind the extra weight.

I might also suggest the side mount intercooler as another option.

Audi does dual side mounts from the factory, VW 1.8T uses a single side mount.

Seen them mainly used on the MR2's. But they find stock TMCC from a ST205 is better.

FMIC is the best for a "set it and forget it" kind of thing.

You can play with the piping. You don't need 3" piping until you start getting to well over 600hp, and 2.5" piping isn't necessary either. 2" piping is good for up to 400hp worth of air flow, which is when it becomes a restriction.

I have a 2" hot side(pre-intercooler) and 2.5" cold side (post-intercooler), mainly because the turbo outlet is 2".

why does it escape so many that you can clock the turbo down so you dont have to run all that piping up and over the engine.

I would like to revise the setup and clock the turbo at some point. Only thing that needs to be done is a custom bracket has to be made to clock the turbo (which I know you know Jeff)

Azn87 you can easily make a FMIC setup work with the preface fogs. Space is tight but it can be done and could probably be done differently than what mine is as well.
