Okay, this may sound random but bear with me.
So I've been thinking a lot about how there's threads and stuff about people wrapping parts in carbon fibre and its got me to thinking.... I want to make a carbon fibre shirt. Like a long sleeve dress shirt. Now don't start hating on me, because this is NOT a well thought out idea. It just came to my brain and I thought it was a really cool idea. So theoretically: How much do you think it would cost? How the hell do you think I could wash it? Do you think it will ever get dirty? Do you think it would look awesome? -------------------- (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your (")_(") signature to help him gain world domination. |

I don't know the cost of carbon fiber (although I don't think its cheap) but it is a fabric, so, it is possible! and would look awesome as a dress shirt!

haha yeah, well I wear a shirt under ususally. I just kind of like throwing on long sleeve shirts over tshirts. So the only places that would be itchy are the collar and the cuffs. I was thinking of some kind of epoxy or resin or some other plastic just to coat the frays so they won't be itchy.
I think I actually might start with a tie first, but so far all of my friends think this is an okay idea. (even the one who is going to have to sew this crap together.) -------------------- (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your (")_(") signature to help him gain world domination. |

Okay... First of all... Yeah, it's damn well possible. Now, if you actualy put your clear-res on it... it'd be very much so SOLID. And if you didn't put any clear-res than it'd fall into threads and strands. HOWEVER... Who's to say you couldn't take CF; sew it into a shirt, and then put some kind of... er... flexible laminate stuff?
I'm pretty sure that if you had some kind of clear fabric; and using some spray adhesive, then it'd hold well... IDK for how long... and i'm not sure about how you'd go about washing it... but i'm fairly sure it'd hold up for atleast a day... and if you sewed the clear fabric into the seams of the CF... i'm sure it'd hold up for awhile... maybe a few weeks??? http://www.fibreglast.com/showproducts-cat...;%20Tow-15.html pick a CF design that you like, you'd need about 2 yards... 10 yards if you want to mix it up with clear-res and make it hard. (BTW: no-one should be hating on you. Maybe the mention of a dumb idea, lol. But it's creative thoughts, thinking outside of the box, and questioning why we cannot do something... the ability to not take no for an answer... It's these kind of people who create great things, and acomplish the unacomplishable ) Why am i even answering this? Because you can't resit. and the stiff comment had me ROFL.

its not going to work. Why do you say that? I figure that if his seamstress has DELICATE and CAREFULL hands... it should work... It's how long it' lasts that'll be the issue... It may only last 10 seconds but i see no reason that it' shouldn't come together. Taskbot, mind you that CF is verry slippery stuff... it dosent hold like reg fabric. it's like fiber cloth, it' comes apart very easily. so you'll be needing to sew the crap out of the seams, and be needing to watch out for snaggs. anyone with CF or FG exp will tell you that the stuff will snag on thin air. and ruin a perfectly good peice of material... That's why i dont like CF... This post has been edited by D-Man: Oct 8, 2008 - 3:13 PM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! its not the kind of Fabric you would make clothes out of. The threads would distort and it would last maybe a day? (if you could even sew it together like such) and you can't wash it.

Ah ha, so we agree now... it can be done... but it's the issue of longevity.
your right that it's not the kind of stuff that you'd want to make clothing out of, but i have a feeling that taskbot isn't going to replace his regular clothing line up with this stuff EDIT: CF ties are still FTMFW... i'm going to go and make one now...
