6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ Silly97- Nov 25, 2018 :SSFOUR Conversion finished. Pictures posted

Ok....sooo....I know it's a bit late for me to start it but might as well do it now. Lol. I bought my 1997 Toyota Celica GT for $4,500 on February 27, 2012. It had 175,000 miles on the cluster. It was in very good condition. The only problem I had on it was it had a CEL light on. Which was just the speed sensor in the cluster not working. Replaced that and the CEL was cleared. Also my car didn't pass emissions test but I eventually had that fixed after running on premium and Lucas Cleaner. Overall I was more than happy to pay the overpriced $4500. smile.gif

Very ricey and not my flavor.

The rest of my plans for my car is to get it repainted and installed with the gt4 splitters. I want to go wit the Supra Limited Edition Silver code 1B9. I also want to get a custom exhaust. I really want the JDM projectors also. We will see what else will be added onto my list as days goes by. Lol. Also I'm planning to keep my silly FOREVER!!! XD

FINALLY! I have looked for this before and couldn't believe you hadn't made one yet! tongue.gif

I can't remember if its actually been said or if I was just planning to say it, but I was always very interested in your thread, because I also bought a Silver '97 Celica GT-equiv. manual in March last year for my first car tongue.gif It amazed me how much you had done in the same time that I hadn't... But I'm getting my act together now and just put 7th gen wheels on too... Hopefully I'll beat you to the projector headlights soon wink.gif

Edit: And your overpriced $4500... I paid $8k and had to fly to the other side of the country to get it! tongue.gif

Posted by: cheela Apr 4, 2013 - 8:26 AM

looks good. that drop is so nice!

Posted by: sr666 Apr 4, 2013 - 9:34 AM

Your car looks epic I'm glad someone convinced you finally wink.gif

I never really thought of making one actually. Until Ryan convinced me. Lol. Silver and teal is my face colors on our 6gc btw. We will see who gets them projectors. Haha. Dang. You really did pay a lot then. Lol. I thought I had it bad.

Yea. Im actually lower than that right now so I have to come at my driveway at a hard angle or I'll scrape. Lol. Earlier today I went over speed bumps at the mall parking lot. I drove my front wheel over and once it went over I heard the bottom of my frame scrape. Lol. Its too much so ima lift it up a bit tomorrow. Drop it back down when I want to again. Lol.

I laughed when I read that... I also got some rear red trd splitters a couple weeks ago.

I may have said ths before but I call your Tom's Lip mine since you bought it just days before had the cash saved up to buy it off zonz.. LOL tongue.gif
Anyway, looking good man! thumbsup.gif

Posted by: JoshuaM Apr 5, 2013 - 5:07 AM

Haha, and I was going to buy a red set of Trd splitters a couple of weeks ago too, until the local shops quoted $250 to respray them. So I am just about to order the overpriced not so great condition silver ones on eBay tongue.gif

Edit: *Just bought wink.gif

Posted by: cheela Apr 5, 2013 - 8:51 AM

oh man, I was actually looking at some red ones too but I didn't wanna have red on my car or have to respray it so I held out for some green ones. Got'em and just threw them on. Love it! hahahah

Posted by: Syaoran Apr 5, 2013 - 11:31 AM

Luckily my car is black so I can respray them at home pretty easy tongue.gif

Posted by: Julian_Navia Apr 5, 2013 - 11:59 AM

It makes me think that the GT4 splitters only came stock with red GT4. LOL! J/p. Yea. Sorry to grab the lip off of you but it was one of the two lips that I wanted to get for my car and it was already silver so I had to get it. Lol.

Megans are very good for it's price. smile.gif

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Apr 5, 2013 - 6:02 PM

BTW. I raised my car. Raised the rear up like 1/4" and the front 3/4". So now I don't have to worry about scraping my bottom frame over speed bumps and scraping my front lip. smile.gif

EDIT: Finally got around and took a pic. It's still low but not too low. Just about perfect height for DD to clear them speed bumps and driveways. wink.gif

This forum is full of good looking Celicas. smile.gif

A noob question, did you roll it so when you drop it the tires won't hit the fender?

Also, do you have any pictures of the SpreeLED kit and some pictures of the process. Or it's just 3 LEDs that you plug/unplug and done?

Thanks. Yea. Its recommended to roll at least the rear febders for our cars if you want to go low. The front is already factory rolled but id still recommend getting it rolled.

The spreeled kit that I bought was for the cluster and the climate and clock but I only installed the cluster because the other two was too complex for me. Lol. Only pic I have of it is the one I have above.

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Apr 19, 2013 - 5:49 PM

Got done with 3 hrs of sanding. All i need to do now is prime it, paint it, and gloss it. Can't wait for it to be done and installed! This is my first time ever prepping anything for a repaint. wink.gif

Awesome. I didn't see any primer in the previous pic. Are you using any?

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Apr 19, 2013 - 11:35 PM

Nope. Didn't think of it til today so I'm going to have to make quick run on sunday morning to get my primer. Lol.

Posted by: Syaoran Apr 19, 2013 - 11:36 PM

Use the primer and the adhesion promoter on top of it.

You just need to know what color you need. Mine has aftermarket paint and the previous owner didn't let me know what color my was but I made a guess that it was quicksilver and indeed it was. Perfect match. Lol.

True that. I wouldn't mind having a 5sfte but then again. It's Cali. Lol.

Sorry for the late update. Been busy working. But here's how the trd rear splits turned out. Didn't fit perfect for some reason and I broke off the rivets on the right side brace while installing it.

Fiiinally tongue.gif You had yours painted a while before I got mine, but I've been driving around with mine fitted for a couple of weeks now tongue.gif

Its a shame that the color match wasn't perfect... But they still look good:) definitely needed on there to go with all that low and your front and skirts.

So now the race for the projectors are on tongue.gif Mine should be arriving in a week or two... But I won't be able to put them on until after exams finish mid-June... So you still have time tongue.gif

Yea it was a shame but it's ok. It was meant to look ok til my paint job in a couple of years. Lol. Im trying to get my hands on projectors too. Just looking around for a decent price. I'm not really looking forward to that hassle of removing the front bumper along with my front lip. Pain in the ass. Lol.

Posted by: cheela May 12, 2013 - 10:12 PM

eh? front bumper isn't too bad. Just gotta do it once and then you'll see how easy it is. I can probably take it off in 10 minutes or so now. lol!

I got mine for roughly $600 after tax and shipping. I was lucky and found it in the same state as me. Also the guy is using greyhound so it's cheaper. I'll be waiting, I'm guessing 1-2 weeks? Haven't got my tracking number yet. If you want a set Mahlar95 is actually selling his for a good price. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=89322

Ahh okay. That's nice that you could get them relatively locally. Much less worry with damage / loss in transit.

Thanks for the heads up, but since I'm down in Australia and there are practically none here, it was easiest for me to order directly form Japan. I paid for them about 3 weeks ago, but to make shipping reasonable it is going via sea freight, and will take '4-6 weeks'. That means you could still get your before me! mad.gif

Don't worry, you'll all know as soon as they arrive tongue.gif

Haha, well sorry to thread-jack but for my stuff (full set projector headlights + power folding wing mirrors and relay) it was 8450 yen for sea mail ($83.20) or 19800 yen for EMS express ($195)... So a pretty decent difference tongue.gif Unfortunately though most shops in Japan will only ship EMS... So you need somebody private to actually help save you the money tongue.gif

Now back to 'Silly97... tongue.gif

^Yea if I were you. Id go the cheaper route. Save some money. Hence why I didn't mind greyhound. Them projectors aren't cheap. Lol.

aha good luck with that, here in aus the ST205 (of the original 77) brings in just under or over $30k... If I was to be offered an ST205 of the original lot for mine I would accept it... tongue.gif

I know the one you're talking about... But that is an astronomical asking price... Not a selling price. They commonly get advertised around the $20-22k mark and sit for quite a while (some I have seen there from at least 6 months ago at that price). The only one I have seen in person was a completely original minter that sold for $18k after sitting for a while around the 20 mark. A personal import model sold 2 weeks ago for under $12k (albeit quickly). So they aren't cheap, but they aren't that ridiculous tongue.gif Better value than a full 3S-GTE swap here IMHO.

In any case, we're thread jacking again.... tongue.gif

H1 HiD bulbs came in and as expected. Tested it and they are plug and play with my 9006 ballast. Also going to down my lighting from 8k to 5k. The 8k wasn't really visible at night especially in the rain at night. Can barely even see the painted lane marks.

Now just waiting on my projectors to come in so I can get started on fitting the H1 bulbs into the lo beam housing and find a way to get my accent lights working. At least my accent lights are coming with the sockets but I don't know if the bulbs are going to be in there.

They're here! XD

Got my H1 Hid bulb inserted in the housing. I used LewFX method to get my HiD's installed.
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=42381

I used UTSlickVic's method to connect the accent socket. Just need to splice the other end into my parking/turn lights.
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=28567&hl=accent

All that's left is to take off my bumper and actually get them installed. Only thing I really need to do is find a way to wire my accent lights into my parking or turn light wires.

Yea it Winnie. Lol. Kind of scared to do the cut off mod but after thinking about it for a while. I think I might as well since ima have it on my car forever.

Posted by: Box May 17, 2013 - 12:53 PM

That and blinding people is never nice. With the proper cutoff you should be able to run HID's in the low beams also.

Posted by: richee3 May 17, 2013 - 1:05 PM

I did it simply because the hot spot of light is right where the cutoff flicks up, right into oncoming traffic. The mod is a lot easier than I thought it would be. The lights are very easy to disassemble.

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 May 17, 2013 - 1:13 PM

Yea I tested them with my hids on and it seems like both lights need to be cut off if I'm correct. Since both are angled up to incoming traffic.

Posted by: Box Jul 10, 2013 - 12:21 AM

I know SS-III splitters are for the liftback, not sure if there were any TRD ones for the liftback. Being there is such a big gap I'm led to think they're for the Curren/coupe.

I tried correcting it 3m doublesided tape and no go. So I decoded to screw it into my bumper. And still no go. The gap is still here. Not I believe I do have the coupe ones. I remember asking if they were coupe ones on here when I first bought it but no one convinced me that they're coupe spats. I've always thought TRD spats came on hatch models only. Sucks. Lol. But oh well.

TRD spats were definitely available on the st202 / 205 AND the Curren in Japan (All options).

Unfortunately the dirt cheap ones sold frown.gif They were scratched up though, so still would have needed a new top coat. I'll keep my eye out for you smile.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Jul 10, 2013 - 10:49 AM

Yea TRD spats for the celica only came one the hatches but TRD also made a kit for the current witch is basically a celica coupe.
I've got a coupe set an I've seen a pair of hatch spats to be honest off the car its hard to tell witch is witch (for me at least)
Your best bet is to get a new set of hatch rears an post the current set up forsale

I've got a set but they're red. They're in good condition though and they match up perfectly so I know they're hatch ones. I've been thinking of selling them and getting SS-III rears. I prefer the look of SS wingless which is what I'm shooting for.

Let me know if you're interested when you sell yours if you do.

I've got a set but they're red. They're in good condition though and they match up perfectly so I know they're hatch ones. I've been thinking of selling them and getting SS-III rears. I prefer the look of SS wingless which is what I'm shooting for.

Let me know if you're interested when you sell yours if you do.

Yea. I'm interested. I'm just holding up and collecting some money first then go out and buy a new set. If I do sell my current ones soon then I'll PM you.

Do you have any issues at all with rubbing on the rear tires with those 20mm spacers? Looks like if you bottomed out on the suspension it might rub the fender.

Nope no issues. I'm running on Megan racing so I don't bottom out. If you want to ride low. Dont go cheap. Get some full body coilovers so you wouldn't bottom out like them cheap Honda owners.

That's a nice Celica you got tho, it's really clean. Never seen it around Fresno when I was still living around there. I'm working on my project (ST205 Front Clip) right now planning to get a new paint job and rust repair on mines, but first I'm going have to do a whole swap with the front clip I just bought.

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Sep 18, 2013 - 6:53 PM

Finally some pics but not trying to get perfect shots. Just shots to show. Lol. It's a Magnaflow 14829. 2.25" inlet and 4" Slant cut tip. It's not them ugly rice rocket canisters either. It still has that oem look to it. One thing I like the most about it. Lol. Noise level is just about perfect. It'll be loud only when I hit pass 4k and flooring it. I also did notice less torque in the low end but much better torque in the high end. Especially when I hit around 4.6kish-5kish. I've only floored it in first gear. Well here's a couple pics. smile.gif

Got the muffler off eBay auction for $100 shipped. Custom piping for $110. Total of $210 exhaust setup. Pretty good IMO.

Yeap agreed. Would've looked cleaner with either 215/45 or the 205/40. Either way the polished look doesn't look right on my silver. Lol. Trying to sell these 5zigens soon and do a hub conversion.

Hub conversion means no more RPF1 either.....

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Oct 17, 2013 - 9:54 AM

^Actually I had put that into thought also. I can always run a 5x114 to 5x100 25mm spacer/adapter after the 5x114 conversion and! The rpf1 will sit perfectly flushed. Also I can still ride on stock Celica rims. Since they're all high offsets. smile.gif

Posted by: sr666 Oct 18, 2013 - 11:31 AM

To be honest mate if the US is anything like the UK then you'll sometimes struggle to find the right PCD wheels in a half decent fitment.

The issue I found when I had my MR2 which is 5 x 114.3 was that the majority of 5 x 114.3 wheels were on 200sx's, Soarers, Supra's and Skylines so the majority of them are too wide ie 8.5 or 9J

Don't get me wrong 'm not saying don't do it but if you wanted to you could make life easier by getting some alloys from an Impreza or similar then get your 20mm spacers?

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Oct 19, 2013 - 11:27 AM

That's the reason why I want to do a conversion. I want wider wheels and lower offset for a better fitment.

Yea that's what sucks. If I do get the mesh I'm planning on running 205/40/18 and 215/40/18. Only the m240 comes in 17s and up. So if I end up wanting 17s. Ima get the m240 instead.

Those won't get more power. Are you interested in more? It's known that mild cams and tune get results. http://www.6gc.net/members/8753 was telling me about his experience with the colt cams. Very positive. The cams and tune are technically not okay for smog. However, I think the car would run clean and throw no codes. I don't expect you to be a guinea pig for my hypothesis. I'm looking for an engine now. If I end up with a 5sfe I'll try the cams. I can see you are not one to worry about horsepower, but if I get a 5sfe and tune it I can keep you informed about the resources I use in the bay area and valley.

I've been thinking of throwing Webcams in my car actually. The only thing is how hard is it to install and uninstall for smogging? Like would I need to retune, replace shims, and cams just to pass smog? But keep me posted or shoot me your progression thread so I can keep updated about it.

Been reading up on them v6 swaps a lot lately and it's making me want to attempt one too. Started to go through Kurt95gt's and Smaay's swap threads and took some notes down. I'm debating if I want to attempt this yet. I'm don't have that much knowledge at engine work. The most complex thing I've done is swapped cv axles. Lol. - Ground a pin to get MT
Custom passenger side engine mount(Smaay)
Custom y pipe(Smaay)

New clutch(Southbend)
Short shifter

Notes:
AC Compressor
-Change puller or mod the top section

Questions:
Ecu? AT 97+ camry ecu is fine but need to be mod to MT[Contact Smaay]

-won't emit any AT codes so it should be CEL free also smoggable?
Fuel relay?[Kurt95gt]
Catylitc converters?
-1 cat after the y pipe
RPM meter? Tach needed?
-i4 stock tach can't read v6 signals?
Charcoal canister?
-needed for 97-98 1mzfe and 99-2002?
Coolant overflow tank?
-does it need relocation?(kurt95gt)
Throttle cable?
-Need ST throttle cables because GT are too long

The 97+ Camry ecu should work fine with a pin grounded out an the a/f sensors swapped for o2 sensors. The 97 Camry didn't have an immobilizer so no worries there. The 97 celica evap should be able to adapt to the 1mz an pass. But you'll have to ask smaay about that. Pretty Sure 97 will only needs a cat after the y pipe.
I'm using the stock Fuel relay from the 5s. Its connected to the mount for the 5s ecu. You have 3 options for the tach. 1) do what smaay did an swap a v6 tach into the stock cluster. 2) aftermarket tach like I did. 3) get a tach adapter to make the i4 tach work with the v6. The stock overflow tank will work.just need a
Longer hose to reach to the connection on the motor.
You'll need the st cable the gt cable is too long.

The rear exhaust manifold for the my is adjusted to miss the motormount. The a/t manifold will work with some modding.
I'm working on a new idea for the lower rad hose. Just have to gets some time to try an figure it out. Smash might have a better hose then I do already.
The lightweight flywheel will be a nice upgrade
The flywheel bolt part number an website is in my thread or I'm sure smaay has it too. They are for the 2gr but work for the 1mz.
Southbend makes great clutches. I love mine with The 1mz. Holds the power very well but doesn't feel much stiffer than my stock clutch.
Can't wait to see you pull this off!

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Dec 27, 2013 - 2:52 PM

Ok. Updated my notes.

I'll need a 97 ecu to not worry about the immobilizer. I think I'll so smaays method for the tach. Since I don't want gauge pods.

Around $80 after CA tax for both hubs. The rotors came in a set for all four. It was I think $130ish.

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Mar 29, 2014 - 5:57 PM

^Sorry but there's no "kit" for the conversion. You just have to piece it together yourself. Here's the pic of the recommended pieces you should get. What's missing in the picture is the 2 front bearing dust covers and the 2 rear hub o ring. Also the shoe brakes are not needed but it's nice to do everything at once and replace it while you're in there already.

I believe all GT and 25th anniversary ST editions had rear disks. The limitied edition might have it also. IF you don't have rear discs then you'll have to buy the parts for that conversion beforehand also.

Posted by: Box Mar 30, 2014 - 12:53 AM

GT's had disks all the way around and ST's had disks up front and drums in the rear. Even then the front disks and calipers are different between the two. It is possible to upgrade the ST to the GT's braking if you go up to 15's or bigger and have all the needed parts to do so. Not too terribly hard, I think the hardest part is redoing the emergency brake.

On a side note you can just go the easy route and get adapter spacers, convert and get the wheels a little further out all at the same time.

Posted by: ILoveMySilly97 Mar 30, 2014 - 1:09 AM

I'd agree with box. If I had a st to begin with. begin wouldnt do the pcd conversion just because it'll involve the rear disc conversion also. Just run 5x100 to 5x114.3 adapters. It'll cost you around $230 shipped for good quality ones. Only thing that sucks is that your wheel choice is still limited with adapters.

Posted by: PR0PH37 Mar 30, 2014 - 12:51 PM

kindasad.gif Thanks. I'm looking at a GT right now. My ST is bare bones with no power windows, power mirrors, sunroof, 4 wheel disc brakes, or cruise control and a slow 1.8 FA. Time to upgrade. Should just do a 4age swap. Your car is much lighter without all the power windows and locks and etc. The 4age would be nice to build in a lighter 6gc.

Posted by: Box Apr 1, 2014 - 4:52 PM

Yeah, a GT is only maybe(just) a second quicker to 60 and the mpg plummets. They're great for swapping though, find a GT with a blown/sick motor and drop in a BEAMS, 1MZ, or 3S-GTE. The 4A and 4A-GZE could be used in a ST, but as to what all that entails I couldn't tell you. The 4A-GZE would be nice though...

Posted by: Box Apr 7, 2014 - 10:16 PM

Why? Cars for ages didn't have airbags, or restraining belts for that matter. It wasn't until just a few years before this generation that cars received air bags. There's no guarantee at this point the airbag would work anyway, you're supposed to replace them after ten or fifteen years. Yes it's better to have them, but it's not like there aren't plenty of cars that're still out there that came from the factory without them. Should I digress, wooden wheels are for 70's and earlier cars. tongue.gif

Yes it's better to have them, but it's not like there aren't plenty of cars that're still out there that came from the factory without them. Should I digress, wooden wheels are for 70's and earlier cars. tongue.gif

I'd still rather have one than not, at least in a daily driver. If it's just a weekend/ funday car I could understand, but I would never remove my airbag in my dd.

Well, if you never wreck you'll never need it anyway. tongue.gif I wouldn't remove mine, but I'm not afraid of driving a car that doesn't have one either. In some instances the airbag causes injuries that'd otherwise not had happened, it just depends on the scenario.

Still better if the airbag explosive burns your hands, than if your head becomes one with your steering wheel smile.gif

I like the classic sporty look. Lol.

On a side note. I've been craving power and have been looking up 5sfte and 5sfe builds. I think I might do a mild build for my 5sfe. 294 webcam and i/h/e. Then tuned. Hopefully I'd put out 130-140whp....

While you're at it you should shave the head to raise compression and advance the timing. Maybe then you'll hopefully be into stock GS-R territory. redface.gif

Wait, you'll actually have some torque though. Hmm... Yes, more power!!!

I don't think you can advance the timing on an OBDII car and I'm not doing anything else for now since I'm going to see if this will still pass emissions with the 294 grind cams.

Damn you OBDII. Raising the compression makes it more efficient though. wink.gif

Yeap. I want to get the head and intake manifold ported. Should still pass emissions with it. Not too sure.

All that does is smooth out airflow, which would mean a more complete burn. So if anything it'll help. Same with reducing the combustion chamber area, more efficient. The only thing is with timing advance, which should be possible with some kind of computer controller. Still, shaving and porting along with the cams should give a nice increase.
