6G Celicas Forums _ Engine/Transmission/Maintenance _ S54 5th Gear Swap

Posted by: HardHead93 Dec 22, 2017 - 6:38 PM

I am looking to do the 5th gear swap in on my S54 tranny. The below thread says that it can be done fairly easily.
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=92975&st=0

I have a couple questions.
1. What are the part numbers I need from a S51 tranny?
2. Because of Photobucket pulling their crap, all the pics are gone from the thread. Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to do this?
3. The thread mentions a special tool needed to pull the gears does anyone know what that tool is?

I am clicking on the images and it is still showing me that Photobucket blocked image. With you pictures you sent me on Facebook, I have enough to do the work. I just need the part numbers off the S51 tranny. Thanks!

You need a drive gear and the driven gear. Don't have PN's, but you want the ones from the Camry (92-01).

Tools, you need HF Bolt Puller set (#62620), and Gear Puller Set (#62958), or similar.

Also a large socket if you don't have that already, either a 27mm or 30mm, I don't recall. Also, keep in mind that bolt is reverse threaded.

I did take a video of the last time I took the gearbox apart, though I've been meaning to edit it for the last year or so. It shows the whole thing being taken apart in pretty decent video quality.
