Gran Turismo moments :

A lot of Toyota's racing : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk5kTx8HemU&feature=related

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leh25hl9S_M

SS-III with P.W.R. of 6.05 and Integra with P.W.R. 5.60 and MR2 G-Limited. Integra has a 200lb advantage.

The SS-III has all the same tire and wheel combination, suspension components (sway bars, struts and springs) and brakes as the 1994 SS-II. All Toyota did, was add Helical LSD, installed Recaro seats and new engine for 98-99 SS-III model.

So its basically the same thing as if Honda were to put a Type R engine in a GSR chassis without making it lighter and tuning the suspension and brakes.

Additionally the SS-III came with GPS Navigation, Audio system and Air Conditioning. Subtract Auto Climate A/C = 120,000 yen and Navigation n Sound System = 400,000 yen and Total Cost = 1,920,000 Yen.

Cost of Integra Type R 98 Spec = 2,358,000 yen. So the Celica is cheaper by 438,000 yen = $3,900!

Despite the power difference, I'm surprised that the SS-III left the Miata that far behind. Superstrut must be a lot better through the corners than I give it credit for.

It also has alot to do with the track also. The Tsukuba Circuit has alot of hair pin turns where you brake all the way down to first and second gear and accelerate. When most of the turns are like that horsepower really matters. The miata only had 140hp where as the ss111 has around 200 and way more torque. If there was more high speed turns the miata would have stood a better chance. With that said the miata is never a real sports car, its more of a "fun to drive car". You can see the how the race car drivers in that video where laughing the entire time.

GT-Four WRC getting worked... gtfour is too heavy kindasad.gif and wow that lancer is so lightweight. lighter than our ST202 celica's haha.
superperb brakes and superstrut handling around the touge. they also see which car is the fastest awd around the dirt track!

just type in セリカGTFOUR SS1 in the search bar on youtube. then type セリカGTFOUR SS2, セリカGTFOUR SS3, セリカGTFOUR SS4, セリカGTFOUR SS5.

you'll see the complete review of the 1994 Toyota GT4 WRC edition. with quarter mile races handling aspects and braking as well.

just looked up the specs of the DC2 type R and it has a full Stainless Steel Exhaust System and aluminum block, which makes it that much lighter...

MR-S clocked the fast sector time on Part 5 of these videos, but looses elsewhere because of power. A stock 2zz motor while the J'S racing has build F20C. MRS weighs 880kg and J's racing is about 940kg (I say about because a 2004 S2K tuners video on best motoring listed the S2K J's racing with 2.2litre weighing in a 940kg. With some internal work MRS, would of came out as 2014 touge champion

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XTmsAWrvUo

Tuned 98 spec MR2 G-Limited beams, with upgraded coilovers and larger wheels.... while the MR2 has coilover set up, the Integra still weighs 200lbs less.

2000 Celica TRD Sport M = 255 mil Yen

2000 Integra Type R = 251 mil yen and integra is only 45 lbs lighter.

redface.gif ZZT231 chassis is good, but the 2zz mehhh THE TRD WHEELS IN THE BEST Motoring video are one pound lighter per wheel over the DC2. a review by the guy PerformanceCars (youtube) said that engine drops out of lift when shifting at 8,000 rpm haha what a joke.

the SS-III was $1,000 cheaper than Sports M and still faster around track. how! (the value of yen didnt change from Oct 97-Oct 99)

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Oct 1, 2020 - 3:02 AM

i find it weird how Best Motoring reviewed a TRD Altezza, several Tom's n TRD Corolla AE111, Tuned ST205 and a tuned version of the 98 MR2 G Limited, but no where did they do a tuned Celica SS-III...

That's why you're supposed to shift nearer to fuel cut at 8250 (or 8500 more likely in Japan) and it'll land at the start of lift in 2nd gear for 1-2 lift good-ness. And while the TRD wheels might have been a lb lighter than the DC2 they're way way heavier than the stock 16" wheels are which is a huge harm to the torque limited 2ZZ at lower engine speeds.

no your wrong. the 2zz has such a narrow power band compared to the B18 and 3SGE vvti motors. Which makes it inferior to the 3sge redtop and blacktop motors. since toyota knew this, they should of put a 4.7 final drive on it or made each gear closer.

Posted by: Bitter Nov 28, 2022 - 2:29 PM

A 4.7 FD would have given some ludicrous highway cruise RPM LOL! I stand with the 2ZZ and say it's a great engine with a lot of untapped performance that's been overlooked. The 7th gen was just so polarizing!
