I love the amount of effort that you're putting into this project. It's such a good feeling to just dive into something with no idea what you're doing, learn some things, acquire tools, and just grow as a person.

Thanks man, I really did learn more than I would have ever guessed. And its been interesting how much of what I've learned on cars has carried over in a positive way to other parts of my life

amazing the amount of work you went through. you dont see this in 6gc nowadays. i miss those days. Today is most about showing off your last painted bolt, or swapped floormats.

It would have been awesome to have this write up 10 years ago. many would have followed your ways.

those designs are intense.

I miss those days too. I remember all the hours I spent reading damn near everything on here. I think the best part was being able to live vicariously through all the great build threads...which would inspire tons of daydreaming. Good times. Which is why I feel FB is just such a poor replacement...

And thanks man, that's big praise coming from you. I thoroughly enjoyed your 2GR thread, maybe consider posting up an update?

Even though we've talked at great length about this project, it's so much fun to read about it too... especiallysincesomeonedoesntcallwhentheyredoingwork

Bro! I literally invited you over for the fun parts!

For everything else I decided I value my friendships and would therefore spare everyone the thrill of watching me cut balsa and glue Popsicle sticks for hours. Outside. In the winter.

Yeah the RHD swap still exists and so do I haha. I drove it more this year than I have in a long time but its spent most of its time under car cover. I have a tendency to get myself into too many projects, the last several years I've been renovating my house, so it's taken all my time and money. I got a quote to have the car fully stripped and painted, came to about 3-4k.... so we'll wait on that.... and I'm getting married next year, so god knows when this car will ever see fresh paint....

But I feel our projects in some ways overlap man! I'm glad to see you really going at it this deep. You are 100% correct you didn't really want to drill out those spot welds. Ask me how I know. The panels are absolutely sandwiched and layered in there. The firewall swap was terrible that I did, think I drilled over 180 out before being able to actually get the new one offered up.

on a side note, your attention to detail has been great. I'm an Engineer and can fully respect the work here. I don't know if I would have gone full billet on the welding fixture, even that feels like over kill to me, but i understand your paranoia! If you ever want to sell your DXF's, I think there would be several guys around the world willing to take a look at doing the conversion this way.... myself included.

Looks like you've done just about everything the way I would have, and probably more so to be honest. Like who seriously makes a custom sway bar??.... lol my lazy azz would have for sure welded one up with some couplers!

Awesome to see these updates.

Tell your fiance that she's signing up for a package deal, you + a car obsession, and get that project restarted lol

I'm glad you agree about the spot welds. My suspicions were confirmed when it came time to drill out the center bearing mounts from my donor. They were all easily accessible and it STILL took ages.. But I'll cover that in the next update.

And trust me, I went into that swaybar with great reluctance. I was desperately looking for an easier way, but all the alternatives had pretty big downsides..

Hallucinatory! I love this project

Glad you're enjoying it! Now that it's done I think I like it too tongue.gif

Ummm... WOW! I so getting another ride next meet.

BUT... you like doing this stuff to your car because you don't work on cars for a living. I work on cars for a living & they (cars) all suck big donkey balls, plain & simple. It really ruined a perfectly good hobby. [Of course this is not true for everyone]

I have a red 6gc if you need another test mule.

My father has been an automotive tech for a bit over 30 years and he is beyond tired of it. It truly does ruin it for most people, especially when you work in the salt belt.

And this is exactly why I chose engineering over staying a mechanic. I like my hobby.

You got it man. I think it will be a lot more enjoyable this time since the car now has an interior haha. Everything has become much more refined overall. The last meet was literally the first true shakedown of the whole setup...

I think I agree about not wanting to work on cars for a living. I was really tempted to go down that road when I was younger, but I'm ultimately glad I didn't....especially since I am now my families default mechanic. They have a few VW's and working on them usually puts me into a bad mood.

overall I have much respect for those that wrench on the daily...

Sometimes people ask what I do and I respond w/ "Professional Turd Polisher" because that's what it feels like some days.

Yeah, I liked doing simple and straightforward things like changing oil. Was a Valvoline monkey for less than a month. No thanks.

Me too. They're not even that bad usually but they just make my mood turn ****ty when I have to work on them. Chryslers too.
