6G Celicas Forums _ Buying/Selling _ FS: Customized Seat Cover for 6GC

Posted by: vincent_doggy Apr 12, 2009 - 2:04 AM

Gonna be USD$270 per set including all 4 seats, front and rear + Shipping

The gross weight of the whole pack with packing is approx 6-6.5kg, its about USD$75 to states, airmail with tracking

Not Genuine Leather, but same spec as the armrest cover and shift boot I sell.
If you want a super combo with the armrest cover, shift boot, and ebrake boot, further discount would be offered!!

The color of stitching u can choose, most popular would be Black with red stitching, but if you like to match with your interior color scheme or your body color, feel free to shoot me a PM or feel free to ask; I will try fulfil your wants.

Here's some pics and How-to made by bseaman_5
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=66585

Just confirmed LHD vs RHD and USDM vs JDM are the same, I mean the seat cover could fit to it without problem.
And the rear seat for Hatch and Coupe are interchangeable, so this 2 body basically share the same seat, correct me if I am wrong

The Vert have another set of seat cover that I also have

Cut the crap, check out the pics!!

Really nice work on these, I can't wait till I have the funds for these! I have been wanting something like this for soooo long!

Can you do two-tone material for these, or only all black with choice of stitching color?

Posted by: 96bluevert Apr 13, 2009 - 1:20 PM

Vince, are you going to be able to still get these in a few months or so?

I'd love a set of these, but I'm low on money right now.

The set is USD$250, shipping are the same as to USA - USD$55, the armrest cover just add USD$20 (Normal price
USD$35) = USD$305 or USD$325

Since the cover are in Black, must be hotter than your stock seat but wouldn't be too horrible I guess.

I WANT IT!!!!!!

Your inbox was full so please PM with the total for the full set plus shipping, that is, 2 front seats, head rests, back seat, and the arm rest cover (that's the center cover thingie right?). The address would be at Chicago, IL in the US.

I'd also like to know how long it usually takes for the stuff to reach my home, cause I would like to get these installed for a trip in 2 weeks. Is there still enough time for that? I would be installing these myself.

Colour: Black leather with black stitching + center console cover + ebrake boot.

Also in the pictures the seats look grey, could I get these in dark black?
Do you make leather covers for other cars? I would also like to do a 1991 Toyota Aristo (RHD), and a 1993 BMW 320i.
Thank you smile.gif

Clean Vert and plate,

U sure u need Black/Black? thats a bit low profile, but thats your call

The set is USD$250, the armrest cover and eBrake Cover usd$50(Normal price USD$70) shipping to Canada is USD$60

= usd360

If you have GIFT function in PAYPAL, use it, that could avoid the paypal fees for me, that help a lot.

Thanks man, you're right black leather with red stitching is the way to go.

If you don't mind me asking, what material do you use? I would like to find out so I can get a feel for it first hand. I'm worried they will feel too plastic. Is it a strong material? Any special instructions for cleaning?

Thanks again

here's a quote by bseaman "I'm not sure the exact material, it's not a real leather cuz the weight of real leather would end up costing a TON for shipment do to the weight factor.. They are however from what I have seen and felt seem to me to be very durable. I mean of course if you stuck a knife to it, it will tear but they should last for a long time. "

Should be easy to clean with leather grease I guess

Bump, got around to doing my backseats today, great fit. Un-wrinkling and re-installment tomorrow. Anyone wanting to buy don't hesitate!

Tip: One alternative way of fastening instead of the hog rings are heavy duty tie-wraps. Makes it a bit easier if you don't have the right tools. Real heavy duty tie-wraps are even stronger than the metal rings. Look for tie-wraps with a high tensile strength.

The leather cost a lot more, and the weight is an issue, genuine leather weight 2 times or even 3 times more compare to the vinyl

Just to make sure what body u have only hatch & Coupe VS VERT

And (!) GT seats wink.gif The covers will fit ST seats but will be too wide on the backsupport. The only difference as far as the covers are concerned is in the backsupport of the front seats.

How hard are these to install? Do the seats need to come off or something to get it past the sides of the seats? They look like they were sewn on.. these are amazing, much better than the ones I purchased on eBay.

I have a question about the custom color stitching and what not... Please give me a PM when you have time. Thanks.

Vincent, I would like to order the convertible seats, ebrake cover and armrest cover. Do you have tan stitching yet?
Also with your vast resources could you duplicate the 25th anniversary/limited edition stick-ons, I am getting ready to paint and need them for the front fenders.
Please send PM.
thanks

Sorry, if genuine suede no way... since those are pricy, heavy, and most are dye to black color, it will keep discolor from time to time...

Mind to post some pics to show? I will try to source but the leather-like are the most material than within budget...

Oh no definitely not genuine suede, there's no way I could afford that! Something along the lines of this type of stuff:

http://www.yourautotrim.com/tespeb.html

Although not specifically that stuff, because I don't know anything about that particular one or its quality. But this stuff, http://www.jandofabrics.com/products.asp?id=114, is supposed to be really good from what I can tell. It's kind of a knock-off of Alcantara. I'd be willing to bet you can find Ultrasuede for half that cost over in your part of the world.

Griff, I showed my supplier the link and seems they know what material is that, but since no demand
so they don't use it at the moment.
They stated that the cost would be more than my current product but forsure cheaper than the GENUINE LEATHER

What I was looking for actually is for just the insets (the center section you sit on) & headrest to be that material, and the outer panels to be the vinyl. Both in black.

Hi. Are the covers available in leather/vinyl combo, meaning the seating surface is leather but the side and back vinyl? Thanks!

The leather cost a lot more, and the weight is an issue, genuine leather weight 2 times or even 3 times more compare to the vinyl

Shipping Kills

I'd still be interested in this in genuine leather, if it's something you can do. They sell the whole sets on ebay for about $500 in real leather. How cheap can you do it? The vinyl just does not look good enough to my eyes to be worth save a small amount.

I would also want the armrest cover, since mine split and the shift boot probably. I haven't seen your floor mats yet.

The Genuine leather cost double or tripple, and the weight also double to the material I am having now, so it means shipping cost kill...
Try to ask the seller on eBay if they could offer black leather with your stitching choice might be your best bet.

Can I still order these?????

I have a 98 gt with tan cloth seats.... Ive been reading up on these is it possible to do these with the cloth seats or will they only work with the leather seats? Is there a writeup step by step on how to do this because im really cautious about doing this since i will have to take my seats apart. What I dont want to happen is if I order these and receive them and i take my seats apart my fear is not being able to do this and messing up my entire interior.

I got a set of the front covers for a 94 Celica GT Coupe with tan leather seats. They are the right shape, but the seats/brackets are totally different than the ones shown in the install thread linked in the first post in this thread. The installation is very different, much more difficult because there is no 'cord' system among other things such as the seat disassembly is more complex. I got the front passenger seat disassembled and the cover test fitted, but threw in the towel on these after dealing with the lack of 'cord' system and other things. I am now looking for a set of used seats instead or just going to finally upgrade to racing seats for this car. Just wanted to warn those interested in trying this on a 94 Celica GT Coupe with tan leather seats and any other models with the same seats that you must be determined to install these. They are definitely fit, but it is not an easy affair to get them installed properly.

Hi Vincent,

Do you still make these covers?

Can you make a price for a complete package:

Seat Covers - black with red stitching. (for the Coupe)
Armrest (non padded) - black with red stitching
Shortshifter boot - black with red stitching
E-brake - black with red stitching
Doorpanels - black with red stitching without the dragon logo
Floormats Black with Black stitching.

Including shipping to the Netherlands!

Thanks!!!!

Backseats - white stitching

ebrake boot - white stitching

Hey, I know I am bumping an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone installed these on any stock cloth seats? Mine are cloth, and I think if these don't fit I will have to go to the junkyard and try to find some new foam.

Posted by: Cs91 Sep 16, 2011 - 4:56 PM

Whether the seats are cloth or Leather originally doesnt matter.
You just remove the original covers, and put the new ones on. Its really simple, though a bit time consuming. Took me and a friend 3 hours to do the swap. The result is awsome biggrin.gif

There are potentially three different types of front seat for the 6GC. When I do retrims, I have to make absolutely sure of which type the customer has, otherwise the new covers could potentially be too long or too short to fit.

Well yes, in the ST (7AFE) the shoulder pads are slightly smaller, so there will be a bit access room there, but can either be sorted by a bit of foam, or just let i be ( its not THAT big of a deal). When i changed to GT (3sge) seats my covers fitted perfectly and didnīt have the access on the shoulder pads. So atleast there is 2 different types of the Celica seats that i know of, and the Vincent mold is made from the GT seats.

I'll presume that the majority of seats out there will match the ones that Vincent used as a pattern for his covers, so you should be ok. I think it'd be pretty bad luck if they didn't fit. Stop worrying anyway! biggrin.gif

Ok I am ready to get a set. Are you able to embroider a logo for me? I can get it done locally here if it is too much on your end. Either way, black covers w/ white stitching, and an armrest cover....shipped to canada.

Edit: please

got it yesterday. I thought you had sent the wrong color, until I realized it was just the bag they were all inside. Looks great. Are the front covers left/right specific?

nope, universal

Thanks man, they look top notch. I'm very happy

The back seat bottom is different on the ST205 apparently. Just the part where your butt goes, the shape of the foam is a little different and the piece in the center is about 3 inches longer, making the one wire on the cover unable to reach its mate in the foam. I can make it work but you may want to note and make a slight adjustment when you make the ST205 rear in the future, I can attach pics and some dimensions if you want (or heck I can even send you the old covers if it would help. so far that appears to be the only issue...however I haven't yet ripped apart the front seats. Otherwise really nice quality on the stitching. I got my logo embroidered on the front seats...looks damn smexy. Pics when I get it all together

Pics would be nice.

Stock GT4 cover is on top, yours is on the bottom. Front of seat is towards the right of the picture.

Basically the GT4 seat is deeper with a larger piece in the center (deeper butt pocket, larger foam sides...bit of a stretch to get everything to reach the bars), that seam on the right needs to be 3" further towards the front of the seat.

It isn't a huge issue for me, It looks like I can make it fit with a few mods....but that's what I do. I will let you know once I have time to play with it if just won't work

Posted by: vincent_doggy Apr 18, 2013 - 9:33 AM

Is the above pics same as your GT4?

Posted by: schmooot Apr 18, 2013 - 10:01 AM

nope...different animal I'm afraid

the length of the center piece on mine is about 11" from front to back, yours is 7-1/2"

Posted by: schmooot Apr 18, 2013 - 10:11 AM

Here is the back of the rear seats. Again a little different in design but fit is good

And the bottom of the front seats...looks like the pad at the back is smaller this time on my seat.

No worries though m8 I can and will make it work, its all good.

Maybe I should send you my original set? then you have a template

Your GT4 looklike 94-95, perhaps 96+ are different. I mean the seat.

Thats the first time I encounter this, if anything really unfavorable, let me know.

Do these seats come with rails?

Posted by: Timmyface Apr 23, 2013 - 8:34 PM

^They are just covers, no seat/cushion is included.

Posted by: schmooot Apr 24, 2013 - 8:27 AM

Yup every seat was much different from mine. Just a note to everybody, pre-face st205 are not very compatible with these covers. Took quite a bit of modifications to make them fit. It's too bad because they are really well made, props to the dog for some great covers

I have the same seats as schmooot. Is there any way i can get a set with the same specs as his.

I received my covers last week and I'm in the middle of doing my front seats. It's definitely a bit more tricky of a job than I had imagined and dealing with those staples is a pain! My fingertips are hurting, lol.

Anyways, I have a couple of questions:

1. On the seat bottoms, the factory covers have some side flaps that wrap down around the frame and each flap had 2 staples in it. The new covers have the flaps but no plastic piece or fitting for a metal bar so basically there is no way to staple those back to the frame. Should there be anything else there?

2. On the seat back at the very bottom rear where the bar threads through, the factory cover has a dedicated fabric channel for the bar that is underneath the outer material. The new cover just has a channel directly in the end of the outer material. This works, but requires poking the staples through the outer material and it tears a bit around them. Just wondering if this is also normal or if there's another way I should be doing it.

I can take pictures if this is confusing..it's a little hard to describe. Thanks.

1. I drilled holes in the plastic and used tie-wraps to secure it to the underside of the seat

2. I know what you mean, you can't get around putting a couple holes there to get it all snug...just don't pull that part too tight and use a couple extra clips. Personally I just snipped all those stupid little hog rings and used tie-wraps, it saved me hours of intensive labour and it won't rip through as easily as the rings will

edit: Not cheap tie-wraps. I actually us the Ty-Wrap brand ones with the metal catch in them..

crazy, my armrest doesn't look at all like that. No wonder I had to cut so much material off. Mine is just a lid for the console. Yet another difference for future reference sake.

Not bashing you at all vincent, I love the quality of these...it was a shame to have to cut them up like I did. AT least the info is here now for people to make informed decisions

Lol it's because your armrest is missing that extension. I personally don't like the extension and took it off. It's like 4 clips that hold it onto the lid.

Posted by: vincent_doggy Apr 29, 2013 - 4:40 PM

If you like DIY, its pretty fun and could kill you a lot of time, need a lot of patience.
Cable Tyre is your best friends for this unless you like to play with those staples, pain in ass.

Regarding the surplus for the armrest cover, those are exclusively for PADDED ARMREST.

Posted by: Legen-dary Apr 29, 2013 - 4:47 PM

Dang I feel like a moron, I didn't even think of using zip ties instead of the staples. That would make things a LOT easier! I was just so focused on trying to rebuild things exactly as they were that I wasn't thinking outside the box. I might use those on the 2nd seat, thanks for the suggestion.

Posted by: vincent_doggy Apr 29, 2013 - 4:52 PM

Don't Use Fingertips mate!

Posted by: Legen-dary Apr 30, 2013 - 8:43 AM

Haha, I was using pliers on the staples. I could only wish my fingers were strong enough to bend them by hand! smile.gif They're just sore from tugging and pulling on the seat material to get everything into place. That said, the first seat is done and it looks really nice.

Another question: after bolting the bottom piece back into the frame I noticed there is a gap of maybe an inch between the seat back and the seat bottom. I didn't really notice that before I started the recover so I was wondering if that's normal or not. There's really only one way to bolt the bottom in so I think I got it right. Anyone else have a gap there?

drivers seat is adjustable with the dial on the side, it will close that gap up

Just bought these recently, they are a nice improvement over the old material. I don't quite care for the clips included but that's how they were done from factory so can't complain. Would definitely recommend to anyone that's a fan of leather seats. And at Vincent's request i took some photos of the fitment.

it is time consuming but extremely easy. Only did the rear seats though, not the front.

You need to take of oem cover first by twisting or cutting the twisted wires. Then you take the small rods out since you need to reuse them, put them on one at a time so you don't get sonfused. you will need to make some small cut where the rod enters and where you will put the zip ties.

Then you just replace the tiwsted wires with zip ties which makes thing 100x easier. They are a thight fit so you might need an extra hand sometimes but it can be done without it. At first you will think there is no way it will fit there but it will and it has to be thight if you want it to look good.

In one of my picture you can see the rod installed on the new cover with the zip ties and the cut you have to make on the cloth

Enjoy.

Many thanks. Yes I got on seat (driver side done) It was fairly straight forward. The only issue I had was my cushions were somewhat deteriorated and I had to add foam for support. I also had a couple of wires missing so I had to make those from scratch but it worked. Cutting holes in the brand new seat for the headrest was a bit scary but it all worked out. I know that the passenger side seat is in a much better shape so it will be fine. I also noted that my seats do not have as prominent bumps on the upper portion of the seat on either sides. So I had to add some foam there as well to fill up that empty area.

Thanks again

ONE QUICK NOTE TO EVERYONE: I used the steamer to rejuvenate my seat foams and it worked OK. You will notice when you steam it that the foam starts to swell. Hit your local Craigslist and look for steam cleaner. You will find some cheaper.. I used one for garment steamer. I think this step is important if you want some more life out of your foam cushions.
