I'm not sure about the whole life thing. You have to consider the consumption of oil relative to the amount of natural resources left to harvest. Then there's the whole idea of if the 6GC will become a ancient fossil like the Datsuns, mk1 supras/celicas/corollas. They are in a league of their own.

I'm still driving 7 going on 8 years strong with my ST. 7 years of abuse with proper maintenance and it finally gave in. Now in the process of saving up for a swap. I definitely have Toyota pride and favored to the 6gc.

Dang youngsters,,, wink.gif

Guess I should check in more often,,, completely missed this.

I was there last year on my bike. Would love to take the Celica to that area. I found the Blue Ridge Parkway to be the nicer ride though. Take it if you can over towards Maggie Valley.

My black 5 speed knob arrived yesterday, I'm happy with it. It's slightly heavier than my old factory leather-wrapped knob.

I understand you re-do the console lids? What might it run for the taller one in the dark blue? mine has a 1-1/2" split in the top. Sorry, I don't do Facebook. You can PM me if you like.

proud of it, aren't they? maybe I won't be taking a ride over there. Though I'd bet it could be bought for 7 or 8K cash, still quite a bit for an older car, but where else are you going to find one? My 97GT turned over 155k miles recently, still runs like the day I got it.

Thought it may have been there a while, rotors look kind of rusty. Also found a red 96 ST in Ohio (or Indiana?) for 6K, clean, good options and 124k miles. Got to looking as my wife's 97ST got hit and may not be cost effective to repair plus hers has over 180K miles...

There is a Toyota tech bulletin for a single click in the brakes, it's caused by the loose fitting pads. When you back up and brake, they shift back and the next time you brake going forward, they click against the mount. Toyota's fix was add brake grease to the pad mounts to lessen the noise.

I'm wondering if some brass shim stock to get a better fit may be do-able?

Co-worker has a side business doing the HydroGraphics. Takes a solution tank and a lot of practice, that said he's done a lot of off the wall stuff like guns, bows, deer skulls, an ATV's body parts etc, pretty much anything that can stand to get wet for a bit. A whole catalog of different films you can get, like woodgrains, flames, skulls, about anything you can think of. He clearcoats most of it afterwards, so it should hold up as well as good paint. Also has the stuff like a lot of cellphones come with that makes them non-slick.

Looks like someone has a home kit out now:

Recon I won't need these, time to make some room on the shelf.

I have the following Toyota Shop manuals:

Toyota Maintenance Procedures 1981 models
Toyota Carina and Celica Chassis TA40 RA40 and RA42 models (1978/79 models?) 2 copies
Toyota Celica Supplement for Supra Chassis and Body MA46 models (79-81?)
Toyota Celica Supra Automatic Air Conditioning system covered 79-81 Supra I think
Toyota 5M Engine Repair Manual carb models 79 and 80 also Cressida sedan and maybe others
Toyota 5M-E Engine Repair Manual fuel injected 1981 models.

Prices are all over the place on Ebay, I'm thinking $10 each or $50.00 for all 7 plus shipping

If you have or know of anyone with an older Celica... (I still miss my 81 Supra)
