6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ HectortheRican's progress thread

Posted by: HectortheRican Jul 23, 2010 - 1:35 AM

I've been lagging on one of these, but I finally have the time to start one up. My mods will come slowly but surely due to minimum wage kindasad.gif But I'll keep truckin'!

I was actually trying and trying so hard to buy a 240, I love the things, but every single one I'd find was either too expensive because they were all SR20'd and S15'd out, or too beat down and crappy. But then one day I came across this Celica because the poster had put '240sx' as a tag. I had honestly never even considered a Celica for a second, when I thought Celica, I thought 7gc, and I never liked those. But once I saw this Celica, I fell in love. And thanks to Spider77, I found this site and it's helped me since day 1. Now that I've got a progress thread, I'll start updating it often. Thanks for looking!

The first day I got her. I actually bought her from a member, vi-tuyen.

Then the very first mod when I started working... early June. Injen SRI w/ Fujita filter. Bought from trdproven.

Then I picked up an OEM strut bar from a local part out in late June

Three days after the strut bar, I got into a fender bender with an 18 wheeler. I swiped his tire. Luckily, I was fine, and no damage to the truck, and little damage to my car.

Damage assessment: Cracked bumper, totaled RH fender, smashed sidemarker, bent strut, bent wheel.

Literally 20 minutes before the wreck

Then when I got home afterwards

At least now you have good offset... Your tyres are sticking past the fenders right?

Haha, funny guy tongue.gif I finally picked up the new fender today, now I've got everything I need to make her sexy again. It gets fixed on Saturday!

nice! keep us updated. and go at it with the modding, once you start,.... you'll NEVER stop! hahhahaah biggrin.gif

I didn't take a whole lot of pics of the repair process, as it's kind of hard for only two people to work and one to take pictures. Next time, I'll have a designated picture-taker. But until I get the rest uploaded, here's the final product of my little weekend project smile.gif

Thanks! It'll be lowered about 1.5-2 inches in about 2 weeks and I'm getting the Euro-spec splitters soon. I'm keeping her nice and OEM smile.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Jul 26, 2010 - 5:08 PM

On 7/24, exactly a month after the wreck, I finally collected all the parts I needed to complete the repair. My buddy Taylor came over at 11:00am and we started work.

Facelifted bumper I pulled off a local '98 GT. Originally white, had it painted 202

Fender from Taiwan (Had slight trouble with fitment.) Also painted 202

We got the crushed fender and headlight out and Taylor was working on the LH liner

Forgot to take out the stock intake resonator when I installed the Injen back in June.. woops!

We were wondering what to do with the bent bracket, then the mailman pulled up and low and behold, the bracket I ordered from novak17 came right on time!

Little close up of the bumper

Taylor's got a new drift charm! lolol laugh.gif laugh.gif

(we bent up the damaged fender)

I gave the old bumper to my uncle, he wants to make some sort of light for the garage out of it...

Teaser pic that I had put up earlier

I didn't do too good of a job with the pictures, but I remembered every now and then. We worked straight from 11;00am to 5:00pm with no breaks. Fun little weekend project!

Posted by: NOVAKx17 Jul 26, 2010 - 5:15 PM

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! haha

nice job man! lovin the work. Can't wait to see it once you get some more of your new parts in and then put on!

way to go tongue.gif

I was sure hoping so, but that truck is still coming in, I gotta stay and unload it. It's big things too.. tractors, fridges, ovens.. Sorry bro kindasad.gif

Posted by: whatthe Jul 27, 2010 - 8:32 AM

Its nice to see the celica back up and looking better than ever.

Posted by: HectortheRican Jul 27, 2010 - 2:13 PM

Just ordered the crystal clear Depo turn signals from eBay biggrin.gif

Posted by: cheela Jul 27, 2010 - 3:56 PM

Did you get the full set or just the signals?

QUOTE (cheela @ Jul 27, 2010 - 3:56 PM) *

I'm assuming that the guy I bought the side markers from (97celiman) had the Depo ones because the side markers are crystal clear like the Depo's will be, but my stock clear turns aren't as crystal-clear.

Posted by: HectortheRican Jul 30, 2010 - 6:28 PM

Welp, found out I have a flat today. It'll be repaired tomorrow afternoon. I'm rolling on the spare right now. But on the bright side, I installed the diamond clear Depo turn signals yesterday and I received the SSIII grille and fog covers I ordered from vincent_doggy today. Pictures up later.

Posted by: Bigblock Jul 30, 2010 - 6:35 PM

WOW you did great work!!

Here's hoping the gremlins leave the Celica community!!

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 4, 2010 - 1:17 AM

Finally got around to making my SSIII grille fit. I put in the pins, but they would hold to the crash bar, so I could only think of one thing... my trusty roll of black duct tape biggrin.gif worked perfectly! And I used 3 thin zip ties to secure the grille to the 3 posts in the middle.

Crappy cell phone picture, but you guys get the gist tongue.gif Notice Piccolo on the rearview? SPECIAL BEAM CANNON!

On a simpler note, I went to Home Depot and replaced the rear license plate bolts (Used to be RUSTY) Now they're nice and shiny biggrin.gif And I ordered a set of Falken 512's!

Posted by: Spider77 Aug 4, 2010 - 4:38 PM

I like the progress youve made with this so far. Its a shame that the seller didnt include all the other stuff with it...But it is looking nice.

That's EXACTLY what I thought when I found his old FS post! All I could say was a big WTF. But thanks a lot!

Posted by: block Aug 4, 2010 - 7:21 PM

looks great. keep up the good work. you need those coilovers you ordered! haha.

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 7, 2010 - 9:14 AM

Welp, Megan Racing pissed me off. After I ordered the coilovers on May 18th, the initial backorder was 3 weeks, so I expected maybe 5 weeks tops. It quickly turned into 11 weeks. And on Thursday, when the truck that the coilovers were supposed to be on finally came in... FINALLY... they unloaded it and coilovers were nowhere to be found. They made a few calls and the workers at the factory forgot to load them. The factory in TAIWAN! Now they said it'll be another 3-4 weeks and I said no. I withdrew my order. Now I'm looking to buy the BC coilovers, but I'll have to wait a little longer until I make the extra money..

On another note, I put a decal on my car today

I know it's gay, but it's just the right amount of rice and I love it! But that's it for decals... I don't wanna look like NASCAR. lol

Posted by: Spider77 Aug 7, 2010 - 9:15 AM

Wow, sucks about your coilovers...they should of offered you some sort of discount or something to try and compensate.

Yeah you'd really think so. Over the whole course of those 11 weeks, Megan didn't offer me anything whatsoever. Not even a free coffee mug or something lol.

Posted by: Spider77 Aug 7, 2010 - 9:34 AM

In all honesty then, if they did nothing to keep you as a customer, then it's probably not worth all that hassle.

I just was in it for the coils and how good of a price they were at. But there's just a point that something reaches that you don't care anymore, you're just pissed aha

Posted by: Spider77 Aug 7, 2010 - 9:51 AM

Roger that!

Posted by: cheela Aug 7, 2010 - 10:12 AM

11 weeks just sucks. forget them.

I got my Falken 512's installed and got an alignment done today. Hooray for new shoes!

Posted by: 97celiman Aug 9, 2010 - 2:57 PM

I never had the clear turns, I bought the sidemarkers from a member on here awhile back...

Hope you find my car though, good stuff on it.

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 12, 2010 - 3:48 PM

Just painted my OEM strut bar SSIII red. Kind of a useless mod, I know, but it looks better than the stock black. Plus it's a Thursday afternoon and I had nothing to do, so why not? I'll put up a picture later when it cures enough to install.

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 13, 2010 - 12:18 PM

Here's the painted strut bar

I gotta clean up in there...

Posted by: rave2n Aug 13, 2010 - 12:28 PM

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 13, 2010 - 6:53 PM

Thanks man! I sure hope so! Will you be able to cruise with us on Sunday?

Posted by: Hazmat Aug 13, 2010 - 8:19 PM

I'm hoping so. I find out tomorrow but I don't get my hopes up anymore sadly. Gotta love work cwm13.gif

Edit: Woot! Page 3! tongue.gif

Well let's keep our fingers crossed!

Posted by: Hazmat Aug 14, 2010 - 3:58 AM

Well I was right again. No dice. Stuck working all day again. Enjoy the cruise though and hopefully I'll have another oppurtunity kindasad.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 14, 2010 - 7:51 AM

That sucks man kindasad.gif But definitely!

Posted by: Hazmat Aug 19, 2010 - 5:40 AM

Maaan you had to move already?! I really wanted to meet up with you before you moved frown.gif

I can still admire your progress on here though thumbsup.gif Hope you enjoy it down there man! Maybe one of these days I'll run into you tongue.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 19, 2010 - 10:53 AM

I'll be coming back regularly, so definitely!

Since I had to move to Albuquerque for college, I'm now out of a job. So until I find a job over here, no more significant progress frown.gif

But I did finally take out the disgusting sticker that went over the top of my rear window! 2 razor blades and a damp paper towel took care of it. For some reason, it smelled like complete crap..

Posted by: 4-eyed-freek Aug 20, 2010 - 3:53 PM

i know this is a stupid question but what is that this right behind the right( when you looking from the front) strut. it looks like a megaphone or something.

It's actually for the alarm. It's the horn for it lol. No question is ever a stupid question!

In other news, I found out that it's legal to not have a front plate in New Mexico. Bye bye, front plate!

Posted by: Spider77 Aug 20, 2010 - 4:19 PM

I got that with my new Tennessee plates, just have to install them. Goodbye texas plates and stupid smog checks!

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 30, 2010 - 5:17 PM

Finally some progress! I bought a spare ash tray from mkernz22 (I didn't wanna mess my original one up if my little project didn't work out). So I got it today, and I had some CF sticker that I wasn't too sure about, so I started wrapping the spare with it. To my surprise, the adhesive was GREAT! It stuck really nicely and I was able to wrap the ash tray lid pretty well. Job well done, I'd say!

In my dorm, just finished it. My roommate was eying me weird the whole time. Like "Wtf is he doing?"

Installed

Posted by: SwissFerdi Aug 30, 2010 - 6:50 PM

I'm a pretty big fan of that sticker stuff. I've always had it planned in my head to throw it onto assorted pieces in the interior.

Posted by: Spider77 Aug 30, 2010 - 8:34 PM

Gotta say that looks real real nice!

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 30, 2010 - 10:20 PM

That looks pretty sweet with the CF sticker/ wrapping! I thought you were just going to put it in your car with the white showing and i was like wtf? ok lol, what ever he wants, but now I see why you got it! Looks great! I might have to do that with mine!

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 31, 2010 - 2:58 PM

Lol glad I could inspire people tongue.gif

Posted by: 4-eyed-freek Aug 31, 2010 - 3:30 PM

when i go off to school i might try to wrap some parts in cf.. i love what you did, that looks sharp.

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 31, 2010 - 4:51 PM

Thanks man. I think that's it though. I don't wanna go over load on CF lol

And today, I took her to Just Brakes and got the front rotors/pads and rear drums/shoes replaced. I got ceramic pads up front tongue.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 6, 2010 - 2:11 PM

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 7, 2010 - 12:00 AM

Same here. I used to be in Fort Worth, TX but now I'm in Albuqeurque for school. I'm so bored up here. But I'll have pics up as soon as I get the stuff. I'll keep it shrouded in mystery till then. Haha

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 9, 2010 - 12:49 PM

I got the 3 white LEDs that I ordered for my guages from superbrightleds.com, I just haven't taken a picture 'cause every time it's dark enough, I'm in my room studying and I forget. I think the one that lights up the tach isn't working 100% because it's not lighting up as much as the speedo frown.gif

Hopefully the other 2 things I got will be here soon biggrin.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 10, 2010 - 6:37 PM

I got part #2 of my Celica bundle! Euro option splitters thanks to smirnoff! Took me a little while to get them installed because I had to frantically find clips for the bolts, but they're on there now!

I unwrapped them like a 4 year old on Christmas morning

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 11, 2010 - 4:25 PM

I found a parking space in a corner with almost a whole other parking space worth of space, but it's not a parking space. So I park my car at an angle. Creativity ftw!

And thanks!

Got my brand spankin' new JDM tails from vincent today!

Unfortunately, I can't install them yet because I'm waiting on the JDM harnesses to get here from home. Hopefully they'll be here tomorrow, then I'll have some finished product pics! I've been waiting for these for half a year! To me, it's the 2nd best exterior mod I'll ever do, after my facelift bumper upgrade.

I'm gonna be going on a mods lent for a little while since I'm in college and no job yet. If I get great deals then of course, I'll get stuff tongue.gif but mostly, I'm gonna focus on school for a while.

Next big mods will be coilovers (NEEEEED EM), rear SSIII splitters(maybe front as well, still haven't decided if I like the Euros better), and 404 or TRD skirts! Gotta have me a sexy shell for a BEAMS wink.gif

JDM rear lights are the best exterior mod here in the UK as well (along with projectors, but they are just stupidly expensive), much better looking that the original ones

Well if anything Brake pads upgrade and change brake fluid first. At least thats my plan, personally im not that confident late braking and tailing other cars at times. Feel that its spongey but ive driven alot more worse cars with ****ty brake systems.

I haven't the slightest clue. I took it to a brake shop since I couldn't do it myself because of lack of working area (me living on campus and all) all I did was made sure they put ceramic pads on her.

those tails look great, but i have always wondered, do cops bother about the car not having the rear sidemarker anymore??

jdm tails really update the look of our cars, but i am always fearful about that because the police here will find any reason to pull people over.

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 16, 2010 - 10:01 AM

samir, I was wondering the same thing. I mean, no one on here with JDM tails has ever posted "Gawwww just got pulled over for not having that damn sidemarker!" topic before, so I think as long as we don't drive like a bat out of hell, cops won't mind.

Most people end up even taking the amber out of the JDM tails.

I'm gonna try to do it this afternoon. Since there's no outlets in the parking garage, I parked it up top so the sun will help out. First I'm going the degunk the area where TOYOTA was, it's already off. Then if it doesn't turn out bad, I'll use floss to pop the CELICA off and get the stuff out. I'll keep the Toyota symbol in the middle till I get around to painting the whole car.

Posted by: HectortheRican Sep 17, 2010 - 3:32 PM

Well I went to get the gunk off and low and behold, the Goo-Gone worked! Unfortunately, the glue was so old and fused to the hatch lid, it took some of the clear coat off with it frown.gif
Here's the damage

That's why I did it one at a time just in case something like this happened. So I'll save the de-badging for when I paint her... midnight blue biggrin.gif

Posted by: jcbass7 Sep 17, 2010 - 4:30 PM

That's no fun, I'm going to debadge all but the Toyota logo in a week or so. Hopefully it doesn't take the clear with it. I like your paint choice though, gonna look goooood.

Posted by: Zake Sep 17, 2010 - 5:32 PM

sorry to see the clear like that. but think of it this way, it doesn't look like my car where half the clear is gone! smile.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Oct 6, 2010 - 12:41 PM

I've had some black 202 touch up paint for my bird sh!t-looking brake fluid stain on the rear bumper but I've just been busy with homework, I haven't had to the time to go out and do it. Hopefully within the week!

Posted by: jordisonjr Oct 6, 2010 - 10:29 PM

I've really been considering debadging my Celica as well, Just the toyota and celica logos.
But I really don' want this to happen 'cause I don't plan to repaint any time soon haha.

Posted by: HectortheRican Oct 6, 2010 - 11:15 PM

It's still visible, but hey, badly done black is better than white that contrasts to heavily lol. I say, success!!

No I didn't. The TOYOTA peeling off the clear coat turned me off to remove the CELICA until I actually plan to paint it. So they stay until I get my midnight blue!

Just a random picture I decided to take today

Posted by: HectortheRican Nov 1, 2010 - 2:06 AM

As my mind fancies at the moment, these are the plans I have for my car.

Step 1- Paint match my Euro splitters to my 202 black

Step 2- Get either BC BR series or Megan Racing street series coilovers, then install the Racing Beat Miata endlinks and the Eibach camber bolts I have.

Step 3- Get new wheels with better offsets. I'm thinking 17x8 for front and 17x9 for rear. Then get spacers if I still need them. I'd really love a set of Work Emotion XD9's but... THEY'RE SO PRICEY frown.gif frown.gif

Step 4- Save up money for OEM or TRD sideskirts and SSIII rear splitters AND a paint job. That way I can do it all at once. I've got my mind set on midnight blue, LAM. 224910. I'll also be completely debadging the rear and removing my wing at this point. I'll keep it though.

Step 5- Get JDM projector lows, clear highs and kouki fogs.

Step 6- Have a sexy, well-handling DD and be like "HAHAHAHA I LOOK GOOD" laugh.gif

Careful with that wide in the rear. I have 17x8 all around and I rubbed badly in the rear... until I rolled the fenders

Posted by: HectortheRican Nov 12, 2010 - 11:35 AM

Thanks man! But I'm definitely rolling my fenders before I get new wheels. I may stick with 17x8 all around, just for tire convenience lol. I don't want the hellaflush look, but I definitely want to be more flush and have a wider stance, I just don't want to kill my bearings with large spacers.

no problem Hector, glad I could help.

I've had these rims on three dropped celica's and one stock suspension. I didn't have to roll the coupe fenders, but both hatchbacks I have had to. Maybe its a bit different? Anywho, let us know what you end up getting! biggrin.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Nov 12, 2010 - 5:25 PM

Definitely will do!! Hopefully I'll be able to get new wheels by the summer. I'm going to focus on suspension till then.

Posted by: jordisonjr Nov 12, 2010 - 5:37 PM

I have 18x8's + 35, and they are just a tinny bit away from flush in the rear.
The front is REALLY close and I'm pretty content with it.
The back are decent, could use a small spacer, but I'm still pretty happy with them.
My tires rub like a 1/16th of an inch on my rear fencer.
I just bent the rear lip up a bit and its good.
my tires are 225 40's as well.

These are the best pictures I have of it stance, sorry, they're not the greatest

Posted by: jcbass7 Nov 12, 2010 - 5:43 PM

^He is lowered on Tien S-techs as well.. That makes me want 18's haha

Posted by: HectortheRican Nov 12, 2010 - 6:35 PM

I definitely wanna stay at 17 inch, but the +35mm offset is looking good! I think that I'll keep them like that up front but I'll get a pair of 10mm spacer for rear, since the rear end is bigger. I'll be buying either Megan Racing coilovers or BC BR series coils. And thanks for the input guys!!

And I'm not really sure what rims I want! All I know is that I wanna stay at 17", I want to go up to 8" wide, and I want an offset of at least 35mm on them. I'll get to looking eventually, I won't be getting new rims for a while, since I have to get new tires as well for the 8" wide wheels.

Any recommendations on tires? I'm running 215/40/17 Falken 512 tires and I like the way they wrap around the wheel. My current wheel is 7.5" wide. What would be an equivalent tire to look the same on an 8" wheel?

Looks great, Hector! I'm kinda tempted to pick up some of those brass bushings myself... Except I kinda don't have a transmission in the car to put them on. Keep up the good work.

I got them for $13! I'd go ahead and get them if I were you lol

i wouldnt.
its a waste of 13$.
the brass bushings do not allow proper movment of the pivot arm, and can cause binding, and notchier shifting.
if they DO help, its cause your OEM bushings are worn.
if you want to actually upgrade from the OEM bushings, get spherical bushings available thru hux racing.

My sway bar isn't painted... I think you're talking about my GT strut bar. I just used bright red caliper paint that I found at O'Rielly's, nothing super special lol

yea lol still learning but hey man it looks clean. thanks for the info!!

Posted by: HectortheRican Jan 26, 2011 - 7:26 PM

Just got these babies in today thanks to AMCMoe

I'll be installing them on Saturday along with the Racing Beat Miata endlinks I've had since June '10. (I thought I'd have coilovers by that August, but Megan Racing is utterly retarded, so no.)

And depending on whether I have too much negative camber in the rear (Which I strongly doubt), I'll also install a set of Eibach adjustable camber bolts.

Needless to say, I'm fcuking excited. My struts are so blown, I can feel a leaf when I run over it laugh.gif laugh.gif
But seriously, I'm 99% certain that they're the OEM struts/springs it rolled out of the factory with on 1995.

Posted by: AMCMoe Jan 26, 2011 - 7:34 PM

That was fast! Enjoy. Your rear camber will be fine - any alignment place will be able to get it within factory spec, or you can have a place do a more custom alignment for you if you want. I had Twos R Us endlinks, those Racing Beats look nice.

Posted by: projectgt Jan 26, 2011 - 8:04 PM

Man I wanted to buy those from amc moe!!! Ahhh. Lucky.

Posted by: richee3 Jan 26, 2011 - 8:14 PM

I've had Sportlines, and the TRD's are just rebranded Sportlines. You won't need the camber bolts, but you'll definitely enjoy having the new setup. Looks good thumbsup.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Jan 26, 2011 - 8:17 PM

Good to know, I'll just keep the bolts in reserve for a bit longer lol.

I think I'm gonna replace the swap bar bushings with a pair of SuperPro 16mm PU bushings I have in reserve as well.

Posted by: AMCMoe Jan 26, 2011 - 8:20 PM

Eibach was contracted to produce the springs for TRD, however they are relabeled Pro-Kit springs with the 1" drop instead of the 1.5" Sportline drop. I've had Sportlines with KYB's as well, and they were a bit stiffer than these TRD's/KYB's. Both are great setups!

Shut up Jon xD

Well, update. I got the fronts on with no problems whatsoever. But when it came to the rears, the endlinks were so horribly rusted on that they got the better of me. With no torch or dremel, I had to give up. As much as I'd love to do it myself, I just don't have the right tools, so I'm taking it to Pep Boys tomorrow to get the rear struts and the Miata endlinks installed. Sad day frown.gif

Posted by: richee3 Jan 29, 2011 - 10:25 PM

Ah, those rear end links... They get the best of most of us. I find that stringing a series of curse words together in an angry fashion is most beneficial. Then an Allen wrench solves everything.

Posted by: Spider77 Jan 29, 2011 - 10:27 PM

Dont wanna step in, but stripped...

Posted by: SwissFerdi Jan 29, 2011 - 10:40 PM

Get PB blaster, soak that mothersucker. All over. More baby, more.

...uhh...

...no, wait. But get the PB blaster and soak it, then use a breaker with along with your tool of choice. Mine came off that way.

Posted by: Spider77 Jan 29, 2011 - 10:47 PM

Been talking with him off and on today. Already sprayed, stripped allen recess, vice grips were a no go. Sometimes ya just got to tear that sh*t apart, cut, torch, but has no access to either. But if he was HERE we could get it all taken care of...............but nooooooooooooooooooooo..had to go to New Mexico, had to go to college....blah blah blah. Hector, I know you wanna go to pep boys, but hell, get a hacksaw and do that sh*t the hard way if ya gotta.
I once went over to a friends house to install some LCA's on his TA...yeah, there was a lot of hacksawing above our heads, but we did it! And it was glorious! All Im saying is if you have to go to a shop (wherever it is...and I know the situation out there) so be it, but if you can find a way to DIY, then by all means.

Posted by: HectortheRican Jan 29, 2011 - 10:53 PM

Yeah Ferdi, I think I sprayed at least a quart of pb blaster on that fcuker. Lol Still a no go. Damn, I could get a hack saw...

Posted by: richee3 Jan 29, 2011 - 11:03 PM

I'm not gonna lie. I figured out the bit about the Allen wrench AFTER I cut mine off with a grinder. And if I had to go back and do it again, I'd still use the grinder just because it's fun to use completely unnecessary force.

What the hell were Toyota engineers thinking when they designed the endlinks?!? Well that's why there's TwosrUs and the Racing Beat ones. When I have to get my Racing Beat ones off, it'll be a snap.

I'm giving in and getting the guys at Pep Boys to do it, it'll be done by noon tomorrow. I cannot express my pure and utter hate for not having the right tools.

Btw, Kyle. The bolt for the brake line bracket on the right rear was SO HARD. I literally had to bend the bracket until it was supported by the knuckle until I could put up enough force to crack it loose. Surprisingly, the hard brake line going to the drum only bent ever so slightly.

Took me 8 hours to completely lower my car.
But i messed up the first rear strut mount in the top so i had to do that corner twice.
And I have to drive to a shop lowered on three corners because i could not get one of the bottom strut colts out, so they had to cut it off.
It was a long day, but felt so good when it was done.

Yeah, I was about to get to work on the left rear but if I didn't get the right rear off, I didn't wanna be lowered on 3 corners xD

Posted by: HectortheRican Jan 30, 2011 - 9:09 PM

She's all buttoned up! The ride's a lot tighter. A tad rough at times due to the higher spring rates, but much smoother! And even though it's only a 1.5" drop, she looks a lot sexier. I'll get pictures up tomorrow hopefully, it's too dark right now.

But as you know, I took it to Pep Boys to get the rears put on because I couldn't get the bolts for the endlinks off. They had to cut each endlink in two pieces laugh.gif Anyway, when I got her back, I noticed that the trunk light doesn't come on, the door ajar light doesn't come on, the seat belt light doesn't come on, and the clock doesn't come on. What the hell could they have touched in the rear to affect these things!!?? I have no idea, I don't see how that could've happened. I'm taking her back up there tomorrow so they can check the fuses since I don't own a multimeter.

The Racing Beat endlinks, I gotta make some time this week so grease them... A LOT. They squeak sometimes.

So I took the drive that Josh suggested and may I say, it was AWESOME. Total elevation change was about 4,500 feet. The climb up was nice and scenic, but the ride down was very, VERY fun. The GR2/TRD setup I have performs beautifully. I had a buddy riding with me to take pictures. Here's a few...

Here's me on a bench with a snow ottoman.

and when u came back from that long rid, you decided to sit on the park bench...

laugh.gif Norberto. Reminds me of walking around town in Cataņo, Puerto Rico.

I just recently painted my Euro splitters, so I took a few pictures to show them off.

You can't see the splitters in this picture... but I thought it looked good biggrin.gif

I wish I knew a better place around here to take scenic pictures kindasad.gif

Bought a set of kouki fogs, but I shipped them back home, since that's where I'll be in about 3 weeks. I'm excited smile.gif

Finally, some significant progress. I got my header installed today. Was supposed to happen last summer, but unexpected costs came up, so the header ended up sitting in my room for a year.

Thoughts, impressions?

Posted by: HectortheRican May 18, 2011 - 12:29 PM

Definitely not what I expected. I knew I wouldn't have a significant increase in noise, what with my GReddy SP1 and all, but there's only a very slight difference in noise. Very slight. I haven't driven it enough to notice anything else yet, however...

Posted by: jordisonjr May 18, 2011 - 1:06 PM

Really? So It's not much louder at all?
Thats unfortunate lol

Posted by: HectortheRican May 18, 2011 - 1:19 PM

I mean, I can notice a difference. It idles a bit more aggressively and it's definitely a different sound. It's just not what I expected kindasad.gif

Posted by: jordisonjr May 18, 2011 - 1:52 PM

Does it sound bad?
And yours is an ST right?

Posted by: 95CelicaST May 18, 2011 - 1:57 PM

Getting rid of the cast manifold will give the sound more of a rasp.

Looks good.

Posted by: HectortheRican May 18, 2011 - 2:25 PM

Yeah, it's an ST. Like I said, I liked the sound before, and it didn't change much, and I still like it. I just thought the tone would be a tad bit stronger is all.

What do you mean?

Posted by: SupraKid May 18, 2011 - 3:35 PM

When you get rid of your cast iron header you gain raspyness. Nice kyb sticker ricer.

I'm getting some work done on my car. I want to take care of problems before buying more mods. Problems that will be fixed on this visit are:

1.) My brake pad mysteriously failing.
2.) Oil leak (found out it was an axle seal, the same shop did my axle last year, so that part should be free due to the warranty)
3.) Burning oil (combined with the leak, it got to a point where I was going through a quart every week or so)
4.) Rough idle (probably a vacuum leak, probably can fix it myself, but it's already going to the mech, so why not)

Then she'll be nice and healthy!! She's been there since Monday and I'm getting anxious.

I'm getting restless, not being able to get new things for my car, so I got bored and modified these.

Like hell I'm paying $30-$50 for the OEM GT-Four ones.

Meh, comes out to about 24-30 total? Personally, I think the cut ones look better, since I'm not getting a vinyl cover. Looks minimal and I like it. Even though it's in the trunk... why am I being picky lol

Posted by: HectortheRican Aug 15, 2011 - 12:37 PM

Finally got my post face fogs installed. Here's a sh!tty cell phone shot after a much-deserved wash. I need a better camera...

Next step, wider wheels!

Dude, I could get 25mm spacers for these wheels, and they'd only come out as much as the Drag DR-31 wheels I've got my eyes on already do... lol

These are 17x7.5 ET45 and the ones I'm getting are 17x8 ET35.

Posted by: 808celica Aug 16, 2011 - 1:26 AM

get +25 fronts and +20 Rears.

Posted by: HectortheRican Oct 3, 2011 - 1:38 AM

Got my bonnet shocks and I absolutely love them. Raise the hood, shocks do the rest while I grab my tools. Excellent!! Most useful mod I've done.

Currently hassling with a loose wire leading to the male connector for my driver side low beam. It'll hopefully be resolved by the end of the week.

Still saving up for something bigger...

Posted by: HectortheRican Oct 5, 2011 - 10:19 PM

Resolved the headlight problem, I'm back to beautiful 6000K. The best temperature for HIDs in my opinion.

Next, I'm gonna wire in my fog lights. I just need a soldering iron...

Posted by: HectortheRican Feb 1, 2012 - 1:52 AM

Today, I got a replacement high beam housing from Norberto. So now, I'm waiting for a semi-warm day to get to work and replace that, reroute the sidemarker wires to the fog lights and splice the sidemarkers into the turn signals so they'll blink when the turns blink. While I'm at it, I'll finally be getting around to installing my 7th gen shifter and brass bushings. She'll finally be getting some long-deserved love.
