6G Celicas Forums _ Interior/Audio/Electrical/Wiring _ How-to-install accent park light bulb in JDM Projectors

Posted by: chacha Nov 27, 2010 - 7:29 PM

AFTER, a very long struggle trying to find the answer, i find it that the BEST solution for the Projector Accent bulb and loom problem for socket replacement would be as followed:

You can use the turn signal lamp socket from a 5th gen celica (but you have to trim down the sides to make it fit right), or easier if your car is equip with the female socket base and loom to connect to the oem lamp park light accent socket, OR you can use the lamp socket for the regular tail lights on the 6gc that has the 194 bulb in it, which I used and worked flawlessly. Although the pattern is a little differ from the patterns as shown on the pics below:

1.) 5GC Signal Light Socket: more wide triangular tips (you'll have to trim it down according to manny)

2.) 6GC Projector OEM Socket: more rectangular tips

3.) 6GC Rear Tail 3rd Brake Light Socket: more triangular tips thumbsup.gif

The 6GC Rear Tail 3rd Brake Light Socket) fits very tight into the accent light socket location. no need for modification...just simply plug and play. ONLY downside is you have to cut it off from the tail light harness, but at least it is much easier to find!

one more final tip....just don't twist too hard as it does not need to be because it is a very tight fit already...don't believe me...just try it out...

RESULTS:

COMPARISON of the oem socket the projector uses...and the tail light harness socket:

before...original lamp socket base

after...oem tail light harness with its cut off lamp socket for one of the brake lights used for a much nicer tight fit:

IM SO HAPPY!! woot.gif

I'm looking to do this with my USDM lights, I'm guessing I would need to drill out the chrome piece inside the headlight?
I know I will need to cut out the plastic on the back as well

not too sure about doing this for the usdm headlamps, im sure someone has done this already. what i have done was meant for the jdm projectors.

Or you could buy some non projectors ST202/205 lights as they have the parklight/accent light already there.

So anyone attempt this on usdm lights yet?

USDM headlights don't have the socket for the 194 bulb, so it would be a complete custom job to mount accent lights in the USDM headlights. However, the early spec JDM headlights (possibly Euro spec as well) have the diffusers like USDM headlights, but have the socket for the accent light.

Yea. I was told by Spree that the USDM headlights doesn't have accent lights but I wander if anyone has attempted it yet? I've always wanted to remove my turn signal lights and rewire it into the headlights some how.

Don't do that with the USDM or preface JDM headlights, you won't be able to see it at all. I have the Preface JDM ones with the accent lights and you can only really see it when the headlights are off.

That's a bummer. I was expecting that too.

for the accent lights i just bought 194 harnesses from a car parts store, did not want to mess with finding a spare part somewhere.

So another quick question. How or what wire should we wire it to for our USDM cars? The side fender lights?

Either that or your own switch

Bringing this up from the dead as I just got a set of projectors. Would something like this work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-T10-168-194-2825-927-928-W5W-Light-Bulb-Wire-Wiring-Harness-Sockets-/182039711091?hash=item2a62698d73:g:Cp8AAOSwuAVW1M1u&vxp=mtr

That just might work, mine came with the bulbs so i just cut the oem wires and wired to the ones the projectors came with.
If you really want to do a DIY solder a wire from each of the pos. and neg. tabs in the socket, then fill it with silicone.

I don't recal if my projectors came with these bulbs or not, Ill have to check.
However my OEM lights didn't have accent lights, so I'm thinking if the bulbs are there, Ill just wire them to the side markers or turn signals.

I just bought an aftermarket one, it's not exact but it Should still twist on. When I bought my projectors New they had no pigtails

This is what came with mine. Looks like I've got the the end that make end accepts the bulb, and the female end that would be wired to the car. But As you can see on the right side, the wires have been cut extremely short and cannot be extended. Are these still useable? Or would I be better off just ordering an aftermarket set online?

Posted by: trdproven Aug 28, 2016 - 4:45 AM

If u know how to unpin and rewire that's fine or just bring your headlight in and see which harness twists on, that's what I did. Since my fender light is already wired I just tapped into the signal wires on the steady power, and ground.

That looks like the same socket as the side marker for a 7G Celica, the connector is also a pretty common one for many Toyota, a quick trip to the junk yard should find the same socket and connector to be harvested from just about every/any Toyota you can find. Check plate lights and side markers for easy ones to snip off.

My bad, 7G side markers are a 90deg socket.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Side-Marker-Light-Pigtail-Connector-Fits-Toyota-Corolla-Camry-Celica-Prius-Lexus-/262424294048?fits=Make%3AToyota&hash=item3d19b4f2a0:g:nSQAAOSwawpXvIt8&vxp=mtr that's the connector I bet though.

Posted by: jordisonjr Aug 28, 2016 - 7:42 PM

Good to know that these are common! There's not a whole lot of toyotas at wreckers around here but maybe something will have it.

I'm not quite sure how to re-pin that connector. Should the "plugs" just pull out? Or is there some special procedure?

Posted by: Bitter Sep 8, 2016 - 7:33 AM

Well if you can get a socket and 'pigtail', which is the connector and some wire attached, then you can just splice that in and not need to worry about pins and repinning and all that because let me tell you, that tiny stuff is not fun to work with.

I ended up Soldering wires on to the ends of what was sticking out, and it worked out well.

Has any one added an accent light to USDM headlights. If I did mine I will put a strip inside (like in new model VWs (Beatles). Too busy to find a spare pair and dig into it.

Posted by: trdproven Sep 9, 2016 - 1:41 AM

not that I know of because the whole damn light turns on already, vice the projectors is isolated.

Posted by: msk59 Sep 9, 2016 - 12:32 PM

That is correct, however, The way I was thinking of is to add a strip light and connect it to marker lights and not to low beams, so when you turn ON your evening lights, this light would come on.

Here are the correct part numbers for the two pieces that attach to accent light.

99159-10228 - Plug Connector Male (Part that holds the bulb)
90980-11149 - Socket Connector Female (Part that connects to the wiring harness)
82998-12440 - Terminal Repair Wire (comes with pin and insulator).

Both are still available since they are used on other Toyota vehicles today. Cost ranges about $7 each piece.

Okay so what do you wire the newly added accent light to ?
