Race Car build nights have started back up in full force! Rods and Pistons have been disassembled and taken to the machine shop.

In return we picked up some blocks and cranks

this is going to sound stupid so bear with me, i know there is a reason, but im not seeing it..

why are the pistons and rods going to the machine shop after the fact, shouldnt they go at the same time as the blocks and cranks..

Are they just going to be cleaned, or do they balance them and smooth? lol, just learning...

Its not a stupid question. The pistons and rods are going to get dunked / cleaned... the rods will then get a hone.... they could have gone to the machine shop all at once... I just so happen to be doing things in groups to space out the expense. Building an engine isn't exactly economical.... building three is... well... I'm starting to like the taste of chicken ramen.

Hi everyone... shameless plug time, we joined Web 2.0 and started a Facebook page

Team Reynolds Style

I'll still be posting updates here, but I wanted to get a bigger foot print going if we are going to take things to "the next level"

Anyway... things are moving along - plastigauging all the mains - rods to follow

Also pictured, GT4 front axles...

So... March was crazy... home now from South Korea (work). All the coated parts are back!

That's a SwainTech PPM coating on the bearings and a PC-9 on the piston skirts.

PC-9™ is Swain Tech Coatings’ latest generation of piston skirt coating. PC-9™ has the same low friction properties of Poly Moly™, but PC-9™ is even tougher.

Swain Tech Coatings’ PPM™ solid film lubricant is a thin, tough coating applied to bearing shells to reduce friction and improve the wear life of both the bearing shells and journals under normal operating conditions. However, it is when operating conditions are less than ideal that PPM™ really goes to work. If there is a cold start, oil starvation or any other situation where the primary lubrication is less than ideal, PPM™ will provide a solid film of lubrication to prevent a catastrophic failure.

Sadly not...

We think the motor mount was compromised as part of taking the engine out last time. Coupled with being old and battered during racing... poof!

And the halfshaft seperated because the bolts we used for adjusting the camber loosened and allowed the knuckle to deflect enough to allow the joint to seperate.

Hah... we are in full prep mode, bitches!

Don't ask.... I think the damage is more from poorly removing the engine then racing...

Brand new oil pan... hopefully no more leaks...

See the orange?

cranks.... cranks everywhere....

Also... I bought all 3 of these on Amazon for $120... I have no idea how....
