Alrighty, cool beans.

Highly considering putting the Firebird up for sale, I'm just burnt out and done with the solid axle. Was driving down a new backroad earlier(due to road work on my usual) at the posted speed of 35 mph and it was so bad the solid axle was just shimmying and arcing the entire time. I mean it's not like it's uncontrollable, at lower speeds anyway, but it's incredibly annoying. I HATE the solid axle, HATE. Which sucks because I really do like the rest of the car, that and it has without a doubt been the most well maintained and taken care of car I've ever bought. If I lived where the roads were near perfect it wouldn't be that big a deal, but it seems like every road around here has the sole purpose of upsetting a solid axle and in turn pissing me off as much as possible. Obviously I knew it had a solid axle when I bought it but I figured it wouldn't bother me that much and it wouldn't be that bad and that I'd be able to ignore any shortcomings given the bigger picture, I guess I was wrong. The only thing that's stopped me from selling it is because it is so well maintained, that and the only car I'd really want to replace it with is a hardtop Z32 5-speed. The Z32 is somewhat rare to begin with since only some 89,000 were made from '90-96 but then a hardtop is like an unicorn, only some 2,500 hardtops were made over the entire production run...

I want to find someone local with one that has a Watt's link, to see if that takes care of it. Otherwise it's a $700 gamble on rather or not that'll make me happy with the car.

Damn straight. No in all seriousness I really do like the Firebird outside of the stupid solid axle, if it had independent rear suspension I wouldn't have any issues with it.

If I had the money to outright buy one I would, but it seems it'll take $15,000 to get the cheapest C5's out there.

I blame years of driving Japanese sports cars prior for my predicament, apparently the guys that only drive domestics don't seem to notice anything wrong with having the rear suspension out of a truck in their performance car.

Hmmm, I'm down to three other cars I'm interested in trying then after that I guess I just stop caring about cars if I don't fall madly in love with one of them. The Z32 300ZX, the NB1 Miata, and the C4 Corvette. I can sell the Firebird and easily get a 300ZX or Miata, the Corvette would prove difficult. Before I bought the Firebird I was looking for a C4 Corvette, but all the LT-1/6-speed cars I found were garage queens and cost as much as a daily driver C5... Plenty of automatic C4 in my price range though, but just no... OR I just skip all those steps and get another 6th gen Celica and stop caring about things like power, getting pushed from the rear, or limited slip differentials. OR I skip even more steps and accept I'm a cripple and get a SC400.

You never liked the Miata, learn a lesson from that.

Speaking of, an '08 NC was offered to me no cost. I don't want it but it might be a good beater, if I can get blower motor working again.

I like the Firebird ok enough and don't want to sell it, but I hate how the solid axle performs and especially on the crappy roads that seem to be everywhere around here. If it were all smooth roads that'd be one thing and then it wouldn't matter as much. Like where I used to live the only crappy road was the one I lived on and I was on the end of the road, so a few hundred feet of doing 20 mph and then it was all smooth roads. After moving every road is fking crap and it makes driving the Firebird miserable because the ass dances and hops around the entire time.

I was meh on the Miata, I think most of my issues I had with it are isolated to the NA6 or NA in general hence wanting to try the NB1. Worst case scenario I don't like it and sell it, cause that's not happened a few times by now anyway. That said I think I'd like a Z32 more all things being equal, and especially if it were a hardtop and not a T-top.

Hi, I too at times share that sentiment.

Which after some thought and a more spirited drive I still really like the Firebird, I just don't like the solid axle's manners and especially over rough roads. I got on it some and I remembered why I bought it, even took it into the orange(5,100-5,500) in first and second and woo that's fun. Got it nice and hot and the sounds from downshifting were magical, all that deep cackling on deceleration. Thing is day in and day out I drive it like an economy car so I guess that's where some of my discontent comes in. Overall happiness on a scale out of 10 I'll say on perfect roads 8/10 but on crap roads 7/10. Thing is though it actually handles pretty well and that's with mostly stock suspension, it's just the stupid solid axle holds the car back and doesn't let it realize its full potential. I think that's what's so frustrating is every time I drive it I can't help but think, "You know if this had independent rear suspension it'd be perfect..." I think I'm going to save up for the Watt's link conversion and see it that makes it a 9/10 for me, I know the Watt's will take care of the axle movement side to side and forwards and back. The only thing it can't fix is one rear wheel reacting to what happens to the other, but it should minimize it. I think a Z32 would fall somewhere between the Celica and Miata and then the Firebird. Should have enough power for me, I hardly ever use all the Firebird has to offer, but with better handling from being a little smaller and lighter in addition to having independent rear suspension. I genuinely would want a hardtop though, I don't even want T-tops on my F-body much less my Japanese sports car.

Also this is my first post from my new to me laptop from Bitter, thanks a million again for that. It really does mean a lot to me and I greatly appreciate it, I'll have to spend some time messing with it later and get everything setup but it should do everything I need it to do. Again very cool of you to do for me. thumbsup.gif

I was able to swap my RAM over and on reboot it asked to go into setup etc... and it showed it's running dual channel, so that's good I guess. Also was able to get some of my software on and get everything pretty much setup to my liking. So far it's been great and I'm really happy with it, heck it looks like you barely used it.

Why are there some people that put 15's on fourth gens, it just looks wrong. And of course they put like a 275/50-15 on an 8" wide rim to get as much bulge as possible, here let's make it handle worse and look like ass. I shake my head:

And it seems like it's always the LS-1 cars too.

Well it wasn't today... Or yesterday, but on Sunday 7th May Erin was feeling unwell and we went to the delivery suite to get her checked out. Her blood pressure had spiked to 170/110 and our obstetrician decided to pull the pin. So at 9:09am and 9:11am my two sons Ashton and Jayden were born! smile.gif
They were born at 33+5 weeks. Ashton at 1.9kg (4.1lb) and Jayden at 1.6kg (3.5lb)

After a rocky start with one being transferred to another hospital with a suspected bowel blockage (There was nothing found and he was transferred back) and Erin's blood pressure not dropping (It actually spiked at 190/120 at one point) everything is going well now. Both are still in the Special Care Nursery which they will be in for at least another week.

Ontop of this, my parents found a nice townhouse for us to move to (We currently live in a one bedroom apartment with two cats and now twins too lol). So this will allow us to have a room for the twins and a room for us and the best bit is that it has a double car garage with a door to the backyard where another car could be stored. At the moment it is about 95% certain that we are moving to the place and we are just waiting for council reports to come in to make sure the renovations the seller did are legal. Building inspection and Insect report came back fine biggrin.gif
