6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ project 1mz celica

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 12:56 AM

So i desided. That since the swap isnt happening in the blue coupe anymore
i should make a new thread for the new celica
So lets get to some pics

So this is the new one
I just bought her off of dakotah( dakotahwatt) the 5s just let go an blew the rod on cly 1 so she was done an hes fed up so i jumped on buying her

Me an dakotah starting the tear down

Me removing the bumper

Us removing the radiator

The hole in the 5s block

starting to pull 5s

The 5s out an the 1mz setting behind waiting for a few more parts

Favorite pic the jackhandle going through the holecin the motor

Finally the empty engine bay

Pic of 1mz
Hopefully alot more to come soon
Orderin the clutch from southbend soon an ordering a stock flywheel tomorrow
Sending the wiring harness out sometime next week
Lookng at getting a aftermarket radiator
Probably getting a new drivers axle too
That should be the bulk of what i need to get her running
Ive got around 1300 to get her on the road
Lmk what you guys think

Posted by: rave2n Jan 30, 2012 - 11:00 AM

Oie, working quick sir. Progress looks good.

Hey on that blown 5s...you need the PS pump? I could use one =)

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 11:04 AM

We go 2 of them ill ask dakotah howcmuch hrs wanting for the one he has laying at his grandpas house an ill let you lnow

Posted by: k-weaver Jan 30, 2012 - 12:15 PM

Lookin good so far!

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 12:37 PM

So i did forgot to mention that i did drive the yellow one into the garage under its own power
An it had a small fire by the radiator when it first blew up

Posted by: dakotahwyatt Jan 30, 2012 - 12:41 PM

Old photo I had laying around of my old girl love that with a blown motor and not radiator she was drove into the shop under her own power and did not lock the motor up ha she still wants to keep going power to the 5sfe wink.gif

Posted by: stephen_lee Jan 30, 2012 - 2:02 PM

woot. a hatch:)

does the 5s power steering pump fit on the v6 bracket?

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 2:12 PM

Not sure yet if it does but im gonna be finding out soon
if it doesnt i might just block off the ps lines an put on a 1mz pump later

Posted by: RabidTRD Jan 30, 2012 - 7:51 PM

You going to be using that urethane front engine mount? Or can I call dibs? (dibs if I can)

Oh and you really don't waste time lol. $1300 huh? Man... V6 swap keeps looking more and more fun... I'm a NA kinda guy. Turbo's just mean more issues and I DD my Celica. But I wouldn't mind a bit more punch in the ole seat dyno. Going to see what my 5S feels like after cams and exhaust, then I'll determine what I want to do. I do like watching these V6 swaps though.

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 8:24 PM

Im using the mounts sorry rabid lol
Im hoping to have the whole swap including the car for 3300
To me this swap makes the nost sence. Everything. Is state side so the engine is cheap
Parts are cheap an easy ti find.
Make almost as much power as a 3s . Lots of choices in engines
Only 2 real cons i see is wiring can be a nightmare and you have to make a custom mount
Everything else seems just as easy as a 3s swap

Posted by: RabidTRD Jan 30, 2012 - 8:31 PM

Or have the custom mount made? lol.

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 8:46 PM

Yea you can have it made too but id rather do that myself
But doesnt look like im order anything this week my friends that are buying my old civic wont get there check this week like they thought
His job has still yet to send his w2 yet

Posted by: Smaay Jan 30, 2012 - 10:10 PM

get a fidanza flywheel from southbend too. trust me...and please post lots of pictures and details of the wiring. im about to put a 1MZ in my celica too

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 30, 2012 - 10:56 PM

Ill call agan and see what the full price is for the. Flywheel too
Im not doin the wiring myself. Im sending it to mr220v to have mne done

Posted by: stephen_lee Jan 31, 2012 - 9:48 AM

yeah the v6 is a good swap option. only thing that might be an issue is the wiring. everything else pretty much follows a 3s swap, or is well known(pass mount)

i got the v6 mounted within 2 hours lol. just like dropping in a 5s IMO

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 31, 2012 - 10:45 AM

Imhoping the. V6 drops in as easy as the5s cane out
But it sucks right now waiting on other ppl togive me money looms lke im gonna be about 2weeks behind where i wanna be
This sucks

Posted by: SupraKid Feb 1, 2012 - 9:25 PM

I was told this thread would bring me lulz...All this thread gives me is jealousy of a 1mz, and pain from remembering I used to own a coupe.

Small update
flywheel ordered
Bought some new e3 spark plugs
An a cherry bomb muffler for now

Posted by: richee3 Feb 6, 2012 - 7:00 PM

Hopefully you don't run into the same issue I did when I ditched the auto tranny from my BEAMS and put my S54 on. The flex plate bolts weren't long enough to serve as flywheel bolts so I had to buy 6 new flywheel bolts and all new bolts for the clutch pressure plate. Those were a nightmare to find. I'm looking forward to seeing this shell with a 1MZ under the hood though. Then hopefully more people will start swapping V6's in smile.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 6, 2012 - 7:34 PM

I have the bolts from the 5s for the fly wheel they fit the 1mz
Ill have to ait an see on the bolts for the pp

DO NOT reuse flywheel bolts. you might get away with it you might not. its really a time bomb. get a set of these http://www.monkeywrenchracing.com/product_info.php?cPath=25_132&products_id=372

those can be reused, and they are cheaper than a set of OEM bolts.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 10:03 AM

It was your thread that inspired me to go for it. Stephen
An ill order a set of those my next check smaay i didnt relize yoi couldnt reuse the bolts
Witch suck since they only have 200 mile on the frown.gif but better to be safe than sorry
but im at a stand still basically till my friend get there income taxes back witch might not happen till the middle of he month so im ordering what i can and doing what i can till i have the cash smile.gif

yep i've seen them fail and wedge into the clutch not allowing it to release..... could be worse though.. the bolts could find a way out of the trans and you not notice anything.... untill your flywheel falls off at 7000 rpm.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 11:43 AM

Yep im ordering a set of the ones smaay said to get next week

Posted by: Smaay Feb 7, 2012 - 12:58 PM

its a good insurance plan. I have gotten away with using stock ones again, but it was for a short time.

Once i was re-using stock bolts and as i was torquing them, they just snapped. they never reached the proper torque.

the ARP bolts are actually for the 4A-GE but they work perfectly on the 1ZZ/2ZZ/1MZ/2GR and 7A-FE, i dont think they fit on the 3S or 5S.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 1:06 PM

Sweet ill be sure to order them
Any suggestions on radators
Im still not sure if i wanna go to with stock or aluminum

Posted by: stephen_lee Feb 7, 2012 - 5:54 PM

im went with a stock GT rad. idk if there are any rads with the upper water neck in the proper place....

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 5:58 PM

Does gt an st use the same rad cuz theres 2 6g parts cars in the junk yard near me both st

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 6:27 PM

Dang ok thank
What about a 5th gen gt

Posted by: stephen_lee Feb 7, 2012 - 6:29 PM

ST has the upper outlet slightly more towards the trans side

still a 5s so i imagine the same as a 6th gen

i wonder if the 92+ camry v6 radiator would fit?

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 6:35 PM

Idk if it will fit but im gonna find out
I they nk the Camry rad might be too long
Too bad a honda half rad wouldnt work that would free up alot of space. An save weight

Posted by: stephen_lee Feb 7, 2012 - 6:40 PM

the camry rad is 3 inches wider and an inch or so taller.

no go on that one

also random info... an ST throttle cable works.

Posted by: dakotahwyatt Feb 7, 2012 - 7:06 PM

That sucks about the pp bolts can't be reused lol i had to get them from so Cal well lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 7, 2012 - 7:07 PM

Wont the gt cable work?
Ive havent read much. About the throttle cable

the small bolts for the pressure plate can be re-used. i was talking about the flywheel bolts.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 8, 2012 - 12:40 AM

sweet atleast i can reuse them

Posted by: stephen_lee Feb 9, 2012 - 9:29 AM

i think the gt cable is longer. so itll work but may have too much loose cable

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 9, 2012 - 9:55 AM

Ok ill look into pickin one up

Not mounted yet but wanted an idea

Then also put my 6gc stickers an my yellow dragon stickers in
Hope ya like them. Jasontx is gonna be busy till those windows are full lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 21, 2012 - 6:09 PM

Then the fun begans lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 23, 2012 - 9:48 AM

Holy crap does south bend work fast i ordered my clutch at 10am yesterday an it showed up at 930 am today
All i can say is wow
If it works as good as there shipping ill never buy a clutch from anywhere else

Posted by: Smaay Feb 24, 2012 - 10:09 AM

^^^ this is why i keep recommending them. They are a good shop and i love the clutches. i have one in every one of my cars

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 24, 2012 - 10:18 AM

Well guess its good i keep ordering from where you tell me then lol
i just ordeted the flywheel bolts thanks again for the info on those
That was a big help

Posted by: NYp8tBaller07 Feb 25, 2012 - 9:29 AM

can't wait to see this done, however are you sure you want to go with E3 plugs. Myself and many others have had bad luck with them.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 25, 2012 - 1:43 PM

Ive had alot of luck with e3 plugs i was running ngks in my 95 coupe an they sucked its running better an picked up about 2mpg with the e3 plugs

if they work for you then thats great! I feel like they are hit or miss

Posted by: richee3 Feb 25, 2012 - 4:56 PM

Think it'll be on the road in time for the meet?

I'd love to know how heavy the 1MZ is vs the 5S just to get an idea of how it will affect the car in the corners. LSD would be a huge improvement with the 1MZ. I'll be very curious to see how much torque steer there is and how it pulls through the corners. I can't wait to see this swap finished.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 25, 2012 - 5:04 PM

Well another small update i picked up the alt at the junk yard an a radiator from autozone

Richee3 im hoping it will be as of right now im 2 parts away from being able to drop the motor in an both are ordered. Hoping to be able to drop the 1mz in an hopefully running in a day. Then i just have ti get exhaust done before the meet im really trying but right now its about 50/50

Posted by: Bitter Feb 25, 2012 - 9:47 PM

1MZ weighs about the same as a 3S-GTE with turbo.

Posted by: kurt95gt Feb 27, 2012 - 8:10 PM

Small update
My flywheel bolts just showed up
So the swap begins this weekend!! biggrin.gif
An i got an email my harness is almost done so with anyluck it should be here within the next week

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 2, 2012 - 7:21 PM

Ok guys i got a question
How should i block off the power steering lines
Nevr done it before so im not 100% on how to do it

It's Saturday. Pictures!

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 3, 2012 - 7:58 PM

There will be a couple pics in a few

I will say i have ran into a slight problem im tying to figure out
the rear exhaust manifold hits the rear enging mount
Hmmm what ti do

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 3, 2012 - 8:00 PM

chop chop chop....

Manifold flange with custom bent piping and reweld around the crossmember lol

That sucks dude

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 3, 2012 - 8:08 PM

Thats what i was thinking. But not 100% on it yet since i have to be careful of the egr pipe that runs from the manifold to the block

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 3, 2012 - 9:57 PM

Said screw it an cut the flange off. Figure ill figure out the y pipe from there once the motor is in the car
Ill be posti g pics sometime tonight i swear

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 3, 2012 - 11:55 PM

Pictures!!!
Only bad part is this is only 1/3 of what i took
My phone didnt save the rest frown.gif

New south bend clutch now intalled

3vz flywheel bolted on with the arp flywheel bolts smaay told me to get( they worked great)

Trans mounted an hole drilled out
Going tomorrow to get a longer bolt for that hole an to get a tap for another so ill have 4 bolts holding then together

Then heres a new little peace of info for everyone
If you deside to do a 1mz swap an use the stock exhaust manifolds youll have to modify the rear mout to clear the rear motor mount. So far all this has ment is i had to trim the heat sheild an cut off the flange.
Well hopefully ill have more to report tomorrow

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 4, 2012 - 12:02 AM

is that flywheel machined?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 4, 2012 - 12:18 AM

It had been but set on the shelf for awhile an had surface rust so i did what i normally do on hondas an hit it lightly woth 100 grit
Plus in the pic theres still a few wet spotd from the brake cleaner it was sprayed down mayne 30 seconds before the pic eas takin

Posted by: Smaay Mar 4, 2012 - 12:44 PM

i see what you mean. im surprised that the clearance was that bad. i guess thats the problem with the S54 tranny. i bet if we used the E153 and the ST205 rear engine mount, it wont be a problem.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 4, 2012 - 1:46 PM

I talked to shephen-lee an he didnt have this problem with his 3vz an e53 so im guessing its just part of running the s54

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 4, 2012 - 5:23 PM

Well more pics an problems
First the good.

Got the pipe turned down to the right direction.

If anyone else does this an desides to delete the a/c pump. This is the belt you need
Any bigger itll be too big an smaller it wont go over the pullys

An how she sets now.

Now for the problem can the front motor mount be put in backward?
It seem like its crooked an i cant get the back mount on
Kinda really makin me mad lol
I had to take a break before i went all hulk smash on it

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 4, 2012 - 8:26 PM

Well 1mz is in an bolted down
Had to flip the front mount around. An put washers under the rear mount to space it up some since the o2 sensor was setting on top the streering rack

Then on the top side theres hood clearance issues with the intake frown.gif
So ill have to cut the bracing some to clear it all
Then i have ti get another chunk of hose for the bottom to make it long enough
So next up on the list todo is the axles an wiring harness as soon as it shows up
Witch shoukd be tomorrow so hopefully shell be running by the end of tomorrow smile.gif
Been a long day ill post pics later

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 4, 2012 - 8:49 PM

Just remembered I owe you pictures of my EVAP/ACIS vac routing. Le sigh...

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 4, 2012 - 9:03 PM

Its cool i think i got figured out other than one hose

Posted by: Smaay Mar 4, 2012 - 9:15 PM

hey post the pics anyway, ill sure be needing them. my car is still at the paint shop. once i get it back, ill be starting in on mine. first i have to tear down the 1MZ. it came from NJ and its completely corroded. every piece needs to be cleaned good. im just as well going to check all the bearings and put in new piston rings. new valve gaskets, blah blah blah.

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 4, 2012 - 9:50 PM

We got a lot done today! Only a day behind where we should have been. I'll be glad when it runs. There's more to come on pics. I've been taking them so we know we have them to post

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 5, 2012 - 12:34 AM

Engine in an bolted down

Rad goin in

Hood clearance is stupid close an it hits on the top of the intake so ill be modding the hood

And a rough idea of how she will look when its done
If everything goes has hoped it will run tomorrow
But for now im done for the night

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 5, 2012 - 2:05 PM

Pass side mount is done. Working on lower rad hose now. Theres no real good ya for me to route it so im thinking i might jud modify the fan to fit alittle better with it
Then im i have to trim the other fan to clear the alt an the lower hose too
ill post more pics once i have more done

Posted by: Smaay Mar 5, 2012 - 2:45 PM

please post pics of the pass mount and what water hoses you are using.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 5, 2012 - 4:43 PM

Ill post pics of it all alittle later tonight. Right now im working on a few little things like the fuel return line an the heater core hoses

An ill admit theres probably a better way to do the bottom rad hose but it will work for now
Might try an tackle the bearing carrier mount tonight too
Startin to feel more than alittle sorw from crawling all over the car for 3days straight lol

Me an trace were talkin last night an he got me wondering
Is there any reason i cant have the exhaust shop relocate the rear o2 sensor alittle lower before the y pipe an off to one side of the manifold?
That way i dont have to worry about the clearance between the sensor an the streering rack

Posted by: 6gcpr Mar 5, 2012 - 5:01 PM

project is looking good, keep it up. You guys still have the 5sfe alternator laying around? I could use it.

Posted by: Smaay Mar 5, 2012 - 5:46 PM

yeah you can rotate it or move it down a little. as long as its not seeing the other stream of exhaust

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 5, 2012 - 5:46 PM

Sorry no i dont i ended up scrappin it.

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 5, 2012 - 8:17 PM

Stickers up to date

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 5, 2012 - 9:45 PM

Well time for more pics

Modified pass mount
Basically just a peace of plate steel welded to to the stock 5s mount.

Pics of the lower rad hose
its a stock 1mz lower hose thats been cut an a universal flex rad hose that has a 90 degree bend at one end.
I took the 2 bends i cut off the 1m hose an used it to fit the hose better so mines made up of 3 chunks of hose.

Part number for the hose im using for top hose doesnt need an mods to work

How shes sets till the wiring shows up an this shows how the top hose fits

Posted by: S8S8 Mar 6, 2012 - 6:40 PM

Awesome work man!

I considered a V6 swap before going Beams, but all the custom work scared me off.

For a first swap I reckon you've done pretty well!

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 6, 2012 - 6:47 PM

The custom work isnt that bad
So far the hardest part has been the rad hose

Posted by: KAOS Mar 6, 2012 - 6:51 PM

Yeah guy; youre doing great. Definitely an inspiration to us swappers...

Thanks!!

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 6, 2012 - 7:00 PM

Thanks kaos
Hopefully my swap as well as shephen-lee an smaay swaps will help people see the v6 swaps arent much harder than any other swap

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 7, 2012 - 12:46 PM

Small update posted in anger mad.gif
Just missed the fedx guy since i was in the garage
He drove right by me too an waved so i have to wait till noon tomorrow for it mad.gif

Harness just showed up
cant wait to put in on an hopefully hear her run

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 8, 2012 - 1:56 PM

I got about 70% of the harness hooked up
Hopefully ill beable to finish it up after work today

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 9, 2012 - 11:46 AM

Ok guys i need some help
I got 99.999999% of everything hooked up
She cranks then the ground wires start to smoke
Wats causing my problem

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 9, 2012 - 12:14 PM

direct short somewhere? Do they smoke with the car on ACC? or ON?

Posted by: richee3 Mar 9, 2012 - 12:22 PM

Are any fuses popped?

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 9, 2012 - 12:35 PM

Check your grounds from the motor to chassis. Make sure the surfaces are clean.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 9, 2012 - 12:56 PM

Only seems to do it while cranking
On while just the key is on
An its only seems to be doin it from the chassis end of the ground

I cleaned them all
Im gonna replace the wires an go from there

Posted by: richee3 Mar 9, 2012 - 1:13 PM

Do you have a test light? I'd check to see if those wires are hot instead of ground wires. Any chance of pictures?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 9, 2012 - 1:37 PM

Ill try an get a pic when i get home .
No i dont kindasad.gif my test light got ran over lasyt time i used it

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 2:27 AM

Well i swapped out 2 of the grounds an the smoking has stopped
Now to figure out why my fuel pump isnt kicking on

Oh an the harness mr220v made for me seems to work great
Everything plugs right in an you would almost think it was factory
(Im sure the fuel pump has something i done not his harness)
id send him another harness in a heartbeat if i was to do this swap again
Ill post pic once i have time to upload them
smaay if your reading this sorry i havent sent you the pics yet as stated above ive been busy
Ive literally eather been at work or in my garage working on the car
Been trying really hard to have it ready for the 24th cuz i know. Everyone one comin tl the meet wants tl see it lol

Nice, Kurt! Congrats. It's a great feeling the first time it starts, isn't it?

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 10, 2012 - 7:54 AM

Yeah He was so happy that I went to bed around 230am being sick and helping him on the car that He came in and woke me up just to tell me it started....lol I gotta love him for his passion to keep at it but I could kill him for waking me up

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 9:50 AM

Ill try to take a vid after shes running right
Richee3 your rigbt it was amazing i could help but beexcited

Posted by: Smaay Mar 10, 2012 - 10:58 AM

dude! post pics of this fuel relay, ill need to know so i dont do the same thing! congrats on getting it running and no worries on the pics. i still dont have my car back yet

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 11:40 AM

The relay was mounted to the side of the old 5sfe ecu
An from what i understand its in the same place on a 7afe ecu too

Posted by: richee3 Mar 10, 2012 - 12:09 PM

The circuit open relay.

Congrats again Kurt. What's left at this point besides vac lines?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 12:14 PM

Todo list
. Vac lines
. Evap system( basically more vaclines)
.exhaust (goes to shop tuesday)
.put front seats back in
.put hood an bumper on
. Pass side axle an mount
. Relocate o2 sensor

Most of this should be dont before rhe end of the day

Posted by: richee3 Mar 10, 2012 - 12:24 PM

I can't wait to hear about the first drive. I bet this thing will have loads of passing power. This thread makes me want to buy another 6th gen and do a V6 swap. But I'm saving up for other things instead... I have my 7th gen to tinker with if I get bored and feel like working on something.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 12:47 PM

So far im glad i went with the v6 the swap hasnt been too bad to do
I think i still would of rather went with a 3vz since it is a simpler swap but
im sure once i feel the 1mz power ill forget about all that stuff

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 1:52 PM

Shes alive!!!!!
The wife took a vid but it wont let me do anything with it

Let me tell its gotta be the most beautiful engine start up ive ever heard in my life other than my nova lol
so happy
No to get the vac line ran alittle better

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 10, 2012 - 9:31 PM

Ive made some progress sense earlier today
I got my vacuum lines ran idk how right they are but there ran none the less
I filled up the antifreeze had a couple leaks but nothing too bad
changed the oil. An put the crash bar back on
Oh an just stared at it thinkin to my self holy crap we made this happen
( wife an me)
Next on the list is the axle an the o2 sensor but i might leave the sensor to the exhaust shop
Then theres putting the ecu in place put seats in an put on hood an bumper

Or closer to lookin right lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 12, 2012 - 10:39 AM

Mount is fixed

No for the new problem
She goes in gear but never moves? Any ideas

Posted by: rave2n Mar 12, 2012 - 12:41 PM

Sounds like clutch isn't hitting the flywheel. Plate issues?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 12, 2012 - 1:20 PM

I couldnt get the plate to move at all when i installed the clutch
It doesnt feel like its engaging at all
Ive talked to trace Daniel an stephen-lee
Thwy all seem to think it could be my slave need bled better or the throw out bearing is in wrong

Posted by: Smaay Mar 12, 2012 - 2:58 PM

no those would prevent you from getting it in gear. you said it goes into gear but its not moving. what you need to confirm is that it is actually going into gear. are you getting full throw of the shifter?

you cant put a TO bearing in wrong. and again that would prevent you from putting it in gear.

with the engine running, can you shift into gear?

when you put it in gear and let out the clutch, you dont move? is thats whats happening?

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 12, 2012 - 3:01 PM

i believe that's what he is describing yes

Posted by: rave2n Mar 12, 2012 - 3:04 PM

Yea just sounds like no contact is happening.

If it shifts, its not TO.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 12, 2012 - 3:10 PM

I can put the car into any gear while running an nothing happens
I can rev it out. Nothing happens

Have someone make sure the fork is moving on the trannie...if it is, there is potential its not moving far enough, but that is doubtful.

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 12, 2012 - 4:07 PM

Kurt, report back when the slave is bled. Making sure there is no air in the system should always be step 1.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 12, 2012 - 4:15 PM

The fork does move

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 12, 2012 - 11:58 PM

Ok i figured out its not the slave cylinder
An i notice when i turn one wheel the other doesnt turn an i hear a clicking sound from in the trans
Any ideas
The trans was fine when we pulled it an the drivers side input shaft was nvr removed

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 13, 2012 - 12:56 AM

Well Kurt feels stupid. One part of his mount didn't hold and the axle wasn't in all the way. So we are pretty sure that was the issue.

biggrin.gif
HAHAHAHAHA !!!! that is AWESOME!!! no really, that it was something that simple, and not something that was going to force you to go back into its guts.. WOOT!!!

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 13, 2012 - 9:07 AM

Yea i felt so stupid when i relized what i had done

I just gave the axle a good push an it slid right in
I think i need to take a break for a day or 2

Posted by: Smaay Mar 13, 2012 - 9:12 AM

told ya it wasnt the clutch. dont sweat it man, we all make bone head moves. i do it all the time. Did you see my thread on the teardown of the 1MZ?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 13, 2012 - 9:26 AM

Yea i seen it
Ill probably be doin that next winter
I know right now ive just been pushin myself too hard an thats why i screwwed it up
Oh well whats done is.
Now ive desided to just take it to my buddys shop an have him make the mount
Itll be done better if he does it rather than me lol

Posted by: Smaay Mar 13, 2012 - 9:51 AM

are you talking about the bearing mount?

Posted by: richee3 Mar 13, 2012 - 10:55 AM

Glad it was something that simple thumbsup.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 13, 2012 - 11:09 AM

Yes the bearing mount
That is if i can get ahold of him

Posted by: Smaay Mar 13, 2012 - 11:57 AM

have you looked into the OEM mount?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 13, 2012 - 12:15 PM

The 5s moumt is way off an basically too much work to use

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 12:15 AM

So the cars on hold till i get a bat out of my garage
Someone callbatman hes friends with these creepy little things

Posted by: Smaay Mar 14, 2012 - 9:38 AM

no i ment the 1MZ mount.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 10:07 AM

That mout seems to be holding fine

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 10:18 AM

So i got the top tab welded on by my buddy now i have to put the mount back on an figure out the bottom tab
an hopefully tack it in place an take her up later an have him finish the mount
But it should hold the axle for me to get it the the exhaust shop next week then to his shop to finish the mount
An then i can start driving it on a daily basis biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Posted by: Box Mar 14, 2012 - 2:11 PM

Looking good, can't wait to see the final result. Pictures and test drive video of course. tongue.gif I always daydream about the possibilities of doing engine swaps and what not, then I remember I don't have a garage. >.> Nice to see someone successfully going up to a V6.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 2:25 PM

THanks box
Hoping to do a test drive next week

Posted by: Smaay Mar 14, 2012 - 4:38 PM

i was talking about the bearing carrier that comes on the 1MZ in a Solara.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 4:47 PM

I didnt get it with mine so i dont know if it works or not

If you do it an it works lmk ill probably go buy one

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 8:21 PM

Ok i got 2 exhaust ideas floating around in my head
lmk what you guys think
Idea 1
2.25 y pipe into 2.5 flex joint. That dumps into a single muffler an angles out infront of back pass side tire
idea 2

2.25 daul exhaust. With 2 mufflers an both angle out in front of back pass side tire
Any thoughts?

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 14, 2012 - 8:47 PM

I LOVE THE DUAL EXHAUST IDEA. That's likely how I'll do mine with a proper rear diffuser or something to make it look right, but I"m not sure about the coming out in front of the tire. On the off chance you one day get skirts, the exhaust might be in the way, and any water vapor that gets all dirty as the car sits, when started and driven down the road could get on the rear quarter panel. Go for a "rumbling" sound though.... especially with the v6, good a throaty would be sweet.

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 14, 2012 - 8:49 PM

I got some painting done. Waiting for the lexus L to dry to put it on but.... it looks so pretty

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 14, 2012 - 8:50 PM

Oh s**t! bad mofo right there!!

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 9:02 PM

Trace- i had the same exhaust set up on my old escort an didnt have any problems with it
The coupe will be the pretty one other than rims an a drop at some point this one will stay faiely stock

Liz- why am i seeing my engine bay the same time as 6gc
That being set it looks great
Thank you

Posted by: Box Mar 14, 2012 - 9:18 PM

Definitely go with true dual exhaust. Would be a shame to restrict the V6 after all that work. I'd have it go out the rear though. To me side-pipes belong on muscle cars and hot-rods. That's just me though.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 9:27 PM

If i go out the back itll be Single for sure dur to lack of room for tubing

Posted by: Box Mar 14, 2012 - 9:38 PM

Hmm, would be better out the side then. Would be a real shame to have to run a single pipe.

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 14, 2012 - 9:48 PM

Hon it was easier to just post it cause you know how crappy my phone is at sending pics. But your very welcome. Oh yeah i touched up your scrapes on your other parts. What would you do if you didnt have a loving wife that can do almost anything with a car for you....lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 14, 2012 - 11:33 PM

Honestly there wouldnt be any real restiction difference in the 2 setups 2.5 single exhaust would be plenty since i wont be running a cat or a resonator. So im not to worried about that
Maybe its just me but i think side exist looks cooler than a big tip out the back

An i just seen the engine bay in person it looks amazing

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 15, 2012 - 12:06 AM

Oh i'm not saying big fat fart can out the back... no way.
but this isn't bad, but I don't like them that far apart http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=79433&hl=kaos%20exhaust&st=0
But you can get the idea, There was a user on here who had twin exhaust out the rear with like 8" chrome tips. Blued at the end. SExy sexy. but I cant find the thread or the pics right now frown.gif

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 15, 2012 - 12:13 AM

Page 19 you see neon has twin tips out the back
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=79339&st=360
page 17 through the thread you can see 808's cut exhaust tip. and that side profile....

When I do it, I'm going with something like that, except twin tips, prolly about the spacing of just inside the tails. Maybe 2-2.5' apart.

But ultimately dude - it's your car and I"m going to be excited to see it regardless of where the exhaust pipe comes out smile.gif going to be bad ass

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 15, 2012 - 12:26 AM

I think at this rate it just going to come down to price
im going Monday to see how much its going tp cost
Im hoping to stay around 150 since i have the mufflers an atleast one flex tube
So ill have to wait an see but duals are sounding better an better lol
One more unique thing for one unique car lol

I got a few little things to fix. This weekend an hopefully have the exhaust done by tuesday

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 15, 2012 - 12:01 PM

True dual 1MZ sounds a bit like poo poo. Have it exit like a normal car with a normal muffler. Pick up a Greddy SP2 or some other nice looking non fart can muffler.

If anything, have the exhaust shop make a Y-pipe that doesn't meet @ 90 degrees and you'll be fine.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 15, 2012 - 1:16 PM

Think i might do a y pipe an shoot it out the side till i get the magna fliw muffler i want

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 15, 2012 - 9:59 PM

so ready for the meet to be here. Kurt and I have been so focused on getting the car working we forgot that we still have a week to go...lol I'm so ready to meet some of you on here

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 16, 2012 - 12:48 PM

Well celica is on hold for a few now
The crv radiator has a crack in it
Hoping its just a bad rad or thermostat. An not a head gasket or something like that

Posted by: JasonTX Mar 16, 2012 - 11:04 PM

bummer man, hope its simple like the t-stat and your back at it soon

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 16, 2012 - 11:25 PM

We know the radiator has a crack in it and haven't looked at thermostat yet

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 16, 2012 - 11:45 PM

I know for sure the radiator is shot
An im gonna change the t-stat to be sure

Im pretty sure its just a bad rad though
It didnt burst from to much pressure it just looks like a hairline crack

Stupid honda thumbsdown.gif

Posted by: Smaay Mar 17, 2012 - 10:05 AM

yeah stupid hondas!!! congrats on getting it around the block

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 10:49 AM

Thanks smaayhopefully ill have both fixed by the end of the day

Posted by: Box Mar 17, 2012 - 1:09 PM

Honda, well that's your problem. Couldn't handle being surrounded by all of that Toyota awesomeness, and just cracked.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 1:19 PM

I know right box tongue.gif
Almost done with one

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 1:33 PM

Well one seems to be fixed
Plus did a little extra sinceci had a extra intake layin around

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 17, 2012 - 1:44 PM

Yes my husband is that batty that He put a cold air intake on my stock crv. He likes it cause now when He steps on the gas He can hear it...lol but it still doesn't go fast rolleyes.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 3:45 PM

Well both the celica an crv appear to be leak free
Hopefully

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 4:29 PM

Debating if i should try an run a simple dual exhaust on the celica or just wait till monday an have a shop do it

Posted by: Smaay Mar 17, 2012 - 6:45 PM

just build a Y pipe in the tunnel and have a single 2.75 or 3" exhaust

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 7:13 PM

That sounds great but i dont have a bender
Im probably gonna wait a havr a shop do it
Plus i have to figure out all the vac lines yet

Smaay are you using a vacuum tank on ypurs?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2012 - 8:35 PM

Ok. So after more fighting with vac lines shes running again

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 18, 2012 - 1:02 PM

This is what you get when previous owners are morons

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 18, 2012 - 1:46 PM

Well i know have 2 working gauges
The fuel gauge an tach are both working fine
The temp gauge seems to jump to half within about a minute so i dought thats right but i plan on using a aftermarket water temp gauge anyway so that doesnt bug me
Only thing i have to figure out is the speedo not working

Dont judge me the monster tach was free from a friend
Its only temp till i buy the 2.5 inch tach i want

Looked to good not to copy sorry kaos

Posted by: richee3 Mar 18, 2012 - 5:18 PM

What did you use to get the adhesive off? Nothing I've tried will work...

No worries! It looks great! Mines Carbon Fibre too so technically not copying.

I would love to get our cars together for a photoshoot sometime...

ROADTRIP! Lol

Richee3-100% acetone nail polish remover

kaos i get her running strong enough well work something out on that
Something about bein half canidian makes me wanna take that road trip since ive nvr been there lol

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 18, 2012 - 5:50 PM

It also doesnt help that ive been to the falls and loved it and i talk about it alot. Hes never traveled and im a travel nut so i want to take him to a lot of places

Posted by: KAOS Mar 18, 2012 - 6:37 PM

i am gonna grab some now. i have the same prob and nothing i tried ever worked.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 18, 2012 - 6:54 PM

Thats one of the places im hoping to hit next summer kaos lol
Maybe well have a 3way meet lol since me an stephen-lee want to get the v6s together too

Jason- it works great just put it on a rag an wipe it on
It works for taking spray paint off the plastic trim too just dont let it set or itll eat the plastic.

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 18, 2012 - 6:55 PM

Yeah kurts finding out more and more each day why he loves me so much...lol biggrin.gif it also works on trim pieces that are painted inside too

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 18, 2012 - 8:16 PM

Get some plasti-dip for the interior trim. It will get the pieces as close to the OEM finish as possible.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 18, 2012 - 8:44 PM

After 5 layers of paint id rather clean them off
Shes only cleaning the one i can grab the rest for like 10 bucks at the junk yard

Posted by: Box Mar 18, 2012 - 10:05 PM

Looking good. Taking the interior back to stock I take it? I'm not big on coloured trim myself. Just looks obvious in most cases. Beige or tan interior, with black accents is ok. About the extent for me though. I await to see it all done and pounding Honda Civics into the ground. owned.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 18, 2012 - 10:35 PM

For the most part the trim is going back to black for now might go gray like in the gt4 later on
An im puttin the red tenzo seats in after i have her running right an itll end up wil a racing streering wheel at some point too

I know ill beat alot of stuff at the local drag strip with the exception of my buddy/next door neaghbor.
Hes finishing the rebuild on his 96 civic hatch. It ran 14.3 before an said his rebuild will drop atleast a second off his time plus hes going turbo after he gets around 3000 miles on it
Hes a good friend but every time i get an inch closer to catching him he gets a mile farther away lol
Stupid hondas an being so cheap to build

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 18, 2012 - 11:49 PM

Well i got the inside put back together well close atleast
goin to the junk yard in the morning to try an figure out all the vacuum lines An pick up a few parts

Posted by: Box Mar 19, 2012 - 1:19 AM

Could find a TRD supercharger and the components for it. "Toyota Racing Development offered a bolt-on TRD supercharger kit for the 1997–2000 Camry, 1998–2000 Sienna and 1999–2000 Solara. Power output was bumped to 242 hp and 242 lb·ft of torque." The Hondas are ugly anyway, unless it's a Prelude or NSX. Celica=much sexier. Don't know why you'd build a Civic anyway. rolleyes.gif Cheap power, just find a Vega shell and throw a 350 in it. thumbsup.gif

Good luck to you on your quest.

Posted by: richee3 Mar 19, 2012 - 8:05 AM

I'd check out Smaay's tear down thread for pics of the vac lines. Saves a trip to the junk yard smile.gif

And thanks for the tip on the nail polish remover! We've tried everything we could think of.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 8:09 AM

My plan for the 1mz is to try an stay all motor an hit close to those numbers
I might try to useca custom supervcharger setup but thats a ways off

I cant say anything bad about my buddys civic hatch. His isnt like every other riced out honda its done up more like how we do celicas lol an hes, probably got more money under the hood of his than i got in both my celicas
I mean honda or not 280hp fron a n/a 1.6l is bad ass lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 8:13 AM

Ive looked at smaays an 95celicagts mr2 both are alittle different from mine or atleast they look it in the pics

An your welcome. The wife was using goof off an relized it smelled just like her remover just not as strong. It seems to work great. Might dry out the leather alittle but thats easy to fix too

Well im off to the scrap yard

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 19, 2012 - 9:07 AM

If there is any issues like that you guys ever need help with ask me and i can probably help find a cheap way to take care of it. Growing up poor and a lot of kids to your family you learn a lot of stuff like that...lol just like if you ever get gum stuck in fabric Polish remover works on it too

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 9:48 AM

Last 2 parts found an vacuum figured out.
Now just to figure out where/ how to mount everything kindasad.gif
Running out of room quick

Posted by: Box Mar 19, 2012 - 10:34 AM

Well, that's a Civic we can live with I guess. Seems most of them think they're in the "Fast and the Furious". No, you drive an econobox. rolleyes.gif

Any who, glad you found what you needed and good luck on the vacuum lines. The only thing worse than trying to figure out electrical is vacuum lines.

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 19, 2012 - 10:59 AM

I wouldn't put the money into S/C'ing the 1MZ. If F/I is something you would want to do down the road I would get a 2GR and start putting money aside for a Harrop HTV1320.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 11:34 AM

Yea my buddys hatch other than a type r lip kit is a sleeper lol

But back on topic i got the vaclines reran an i was only off on 2 maybe 3 an thats mainly because of missing parts but thats all fixed for now
I will have to figure out better placement for parts later on though
the charcoal can from the Lexus makes the celicas look like a baby lol
Picked up 2 sensors i had missing an the vacuum tank i didnt know i needed
She does seem to run alot smoother an it feels alittle better under a load too
But im hoping after the exhaust an o2 sensor is put in she feels right. Cuz ive only had her to 2500rpm an it feels like no almost no power but im figuring thats due to having just upen exhaust manifolds lol
Going tomorrow to see if the exhaust shop can finish her for 140 since thats all i gots left to spend for the next 2 weeks. But ive done just about all i can for now
Going to try an get my hands on a code reader an see what codes are showing since im getting nothing from pinning the obd1 port.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 11:39 AM

95celicast- if i do deside to s/c the 1mz its going to be low boost an just mainly to say i did it.
If i want boost ill end up getting a 3vz an do a full rebuild an the run about 12-16 psi
An drop this motor in the coupe
Not that ive been thinking about it any
Of on alil side note the junk yard will sell me the whole front clip from a 92-93 camry for 850-900
Not that i can afford it right now lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 12:02 PM

When she made it she was doin it for the guy that had the car before me
Ill probably have her make me a new one in yellow

Did you make that boot or did you buy it from Vincent-doggy?

Posted by: KAOS Mar 19, 2012 - 12:08 PM

vincent_doggy

Also have matching floor mats, ebrake boot, and arm rest cover in the same stitch.

I have yet to use the floor mats as my car has been parked since I bought them, so they're still brand new going in this summer... sweet. thumbsup.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 12:24 PM

They look great but i needed a low buck fix an she could make these an sell them for like 16usd shipped an still make alittle profit lol
Its just a nice cheap replacement for the ripped up stock boots that were all ripped up
Tryin to talk her into doin leather seat covers next lol

Posted by: Box Mar 19, 2012 - 1:03 PM

Wish I was able to make stuff like that. Hopefully can get her done at the exhaust shop for cheap. My local shop is reasonable, hopefully so is yours.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 1:14 PM

They normally are but this is the hardest exhaust ive needed done so far lol

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 19, 2012 - 1:20 PM

Box if your intrested in a boot im sure the wife will make ya one. If you got the extra 16 lol

Posted by: Box Mar 19, 2012 - 1:43 PM

Let us know how it turns out, hopefully they can work something out for you. My boot is still good, I'm just jealous of the ability to make things. I've never been good with making things, except problems. mad.gif Currently in the process of fixing what is now the passenger seat. Had swapped the passenger seat cushions and covers to the driver side since was in better shape. And frankly I care more about me than the occasional passenger. tongue.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 20, 2012 - 12:21 PM

Well desided to hold off an the exhaust for another paycheck
I want to get some of the little bugs worked out.
So i started to remount the charcoal can inside the fender since its so big i doesnt fit under the hood well.
Then im puting the vacuum tank where the charcoal can use to be
Ill try an post some pics later tonight after work
Ive had too many update with no pics so its time to go pic crazy soon

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 20, 2012 - 8:09 PM

Small teaser while im at work

Thats the rather large charcoal can from the es300
That will be making its new home in my drivers side fender well
ill do a small write up in her omce im done mountimg it

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 20, 2012 - 11:48 PM

I don't even have one of those...

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 20, 2012 - 11:57 PM

All just depends on the car your system came from
Mine had the plug an eveything
If you look att yours i didnt even see the big hose that runs to it in you vsv setup

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 21, 2012 - 12:16 PM

Someone that's going to the meet Saturday please tell me the address for the place.Kurt's been so busy I haven't had time to talk to him about it and I also need to know what time it's starting

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 21, 2012 - 12:20 PM

Saturday march 24 starts 11am an the address is under the meet thread

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 21, 2012 - 12:30 PM

Ok i got the charcoal can mount today
Im not as happy with it mounted behind the tire as i thought
I think im goin to start looking for a small overflow tank to put on the drivers side by the strut tower so i can move the charcoal can to where the overflow is now.
The main reason for this is because i only have about 1/2 inch of clearance between the tire an the can when the tire is at full lock.
An i only have that because i cut off part of the plastic inner fenderwell

But ayleast its all in an hooked up for now

Posted by: mandrek Mar 21, 2012 - 12:39 PM

DAIMN!!!!! that thing is HUGE!!!

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 21, 2012 - 12:47 PM

Ok time for pics an small write up on how its hooked up
So lets start with where its mounted

I have it as far up an over away from the tire as i can.

This pic you can see the big hose that runs to the vsv on the top of yhe motor

Heres where that hose connects.

Here is the hose that connect to the old evap hard line on the celica

Here is the hard line it connects to

Heres the sensor that was on the can
Its now mounted to the strut tower.

An heres the sensor thats connets to the sendor that was on the charcoal can

The only thing left to do is tap the last open line on the charcoal can into the intake tube
Ill do that that by putting a t in the valve cover vent tube.

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 21, 2012 - 1:17 PM

The sheer amount of vac lines on the 1MZ is it's only drawback. I'm thinking about buying another 1MZ and working on running the lines so that they can be tucked away.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 21, 2012 - 1:28 PM

Atleast the toyota/lexus plate covers the a,good chunk of the hoses
but yea if it was tucked away would be nice
If i had thr knowhow i think itbs would look sweet too but that would be stupid hard to do

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 21, 2012 - 4:57 PM

Ok now for a quick run down of the vacuum tank

Heres the tank mounted in the same spot as the old charcoal can

Heres where the lines run to an connect to the hoses from the intake an vsv

Heres the other end of the connection

Heres wher the bottom hose connects to the intake

The small vacuum hose here thats connected to the hard line is the top hose on the vac tank connection.

Ok guys where would the best place be to connect a water temp gauge into the coolant system?

whats wrong with the factory one?

Ok guys where would the best place be to connect a water temp gauge into the coolant system?

i guess the question you should ask yourself is what condition of the water do you want to measure?

on the water neck or just after it (as in Teed into the hose) on the out, =temp of the water exiting the block.. engine water temp (for this would be best to try to get it pre-t-stat)
Or to measure the water temp going into the motor.. bottom of the rad (i think, unless i got my flow direction backwards) or on the hose.. this will also let you see how efficient the rad is working.

i have an ST so the temp sensor is already mounted on the neck, but i got a GT/GT4 Ebay rad (godspeed) and it had an open port for the GT OEM temp sensor (or it may be for a fan switch,, either way it was an extra port on the bottom of the rad).. so i just used that to put my HF water temp Gauge.. that way i can see how well the rad is working...

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 23, 2012 - 12:12 PM

The stock one reads funny
It jumps straight to half then goes up from there

Only gauge that seems to read right is the fuel gauge

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 23, 2012 - 12:18 PM

I was thinking in the top rad. Hose would be best

Posted by: 95CelicaST Mar 23, 2012 - 1:34 PM

Did you check with MR220V on the gauge wiring and what he thinks you should do?

Are you sure there isn't air in the system?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 23, 2012 - 1:51 PM

I sent him an email last night but havent gotten a response back yet

agreed..if the gauge is jumping to 1/2 it sounds like its getting a signal its not supposed to. i would double check something in the wiring. Oh im getting more and more nervous about this wiring.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 23, 2012 - 2:11 PM

Im going to check my grounds an hwve my alternator tested again

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 25, 2012 - 11:04 PM

Well if everything goes right ill be getting the exhaust done
Then ill be ordering. A godspeed radiator with slim fans.
The coupes rad is looking rough so i figure theres no point to buy another stock one
An im debating on what kind of rotors to get too
Thinking i might just get some basic rotors an maybe ebc pads
Might get the drilled an slotted rotors off ebay
Not 100% sure yet
Ill have about 400 to work with after the exhaust

Posted by: ricochet1490 Mar 25, 2012 - 11:10 PM

car warming up properly?

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 25, 2012 - 11:20 PM

As far as i can tell it seems to warm up ok an isnt overheating
just the gauge is off. I dought changing the rad is gonna fix that but im gonna swap out the rad i just put in for the go speed one. Once i order it

The main reason for that is i noticed i have a wat appears to crack forming in the old radiator in the coupe

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 25, 2012 - 11:35 PM

Ok mr220v. Just e mailed me an said most of the gauges are ran through one plug from the sensors to the dash from my understanding is he thinks i might have not plugged it in or it might not be plugged in all the way

Posted by: richee3 Mar 28, 2012 - 1:23 PM

If that was the case, I would think other sensors would be having trouble as well. Seems very possible since it seems like I remember reading in another thread about CEL woes. I can't wait to hear your first impressions after the exhaust is finished and the car is back on the streets.

I do still have that bumper for you, by the way.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 28, 2012 - 1:30 PM

Sweet thanks richees 3 when my loan check shows up ill send you the money
you wouldnt happen to have any of the low beam rubbers layin around would you?

Ive been talking to mr220v. He has said dong my harness was alittle diffrent than the rest
I guess its almost the same as a normal obd1 harness but had a few things from at obd2 harness in it
Kind of like toyota took a 94 1mz harness an put part of the 97 1mz harness in it
im starting to think ill never know what my codes are but i dont blame mr220v for that
Thats the risks you run on a swap like this

Posted by: Smaay Mar 28, 2012 - 1:59 PM

well i hope since my car is ODBII and so is my engine and harness and ECU, i wont have these problems.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 28, 2012 - 3:18 PM

Im goinf to redo my grounds tonight hopefully an see if that helps
thats the last hing me an mr220v talkef aboyt

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 29, 2012 - 8:47 PM

Well the cash ive been waiting for showed up today
So far ive bought a battery box a new smaller overflow tank. Hood pins
And....... new subs for the coupe but ill go more into those in the coupes thread
Im about to order the god speed rad a short throw shifter an maybe new rear end links for the coupe
depending on how much the exhaust cost me i might get drop springs too before the Midwest meet

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 29, 2012 - 10:14 PM

Starting to hate ebay, paypal,an my debt card
Cant order anything because ebay says i cant make my payment
Paypal says its something to do with my card
An the number on my card just gets me a recording sayin all lines are busy
so i guess im not ordering parts tonight mad.gif

Posted by: RabidTRD Mar 29, 2012 - 11:16 PM

I'm looking into NAPA for drilled and slotted rotors. Apparently they sell "lifetime warrenty" ones (which around these parts means, every time you wear them down, bring them in for new ones) for our cars. I saw them on JDCelica's new red hatch and learned about them. Do you have a NAPA near you?

http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=UBPPR86500L_0129750013&An=599001+101994+50070+2070006+26345&Ar=AND(P_RecType%3aA)

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 29, 2012 - 11:43 PM

Yep an im gonna go there tomorrow now thank you very much biggrin.gif

Posted by: mandrek Mar 30, 2012 - 12:21 AM

2000 GTS calipers and rotors (front) also fit celi's.. one note though.. you will HAVE to cut down the GTS mounting bolts they are a bit longer.. but any-hoo a bit more options out there for ya.

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 30, 2012 - 12:41 AM

Good to know
I was thinking about gt4 calipers
But the whole reason i even did this swap was so i knew i could walk into an auto parts stote or junk yard an find the parts i need
An gt4 brakes would ruin that

This car will be broof( hopefully) that usdm celicas dont suck they were just put together with the wrong parts tongue.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 30, 2012 - 10:59 AM

Well finally got my parts ordered
so its showing the radiator shifter an the swaybar endlinks should all be here by the 4th

Then im going to redo my pass side motor mount an go monday an find out how soon the exhaust can be done

Then it should be just about ready to drive i hope

Mr220v thinks i need a different ecu to read my codes so hes tracking me down what i need

Goung to do as much as i can this weekend
Anyone by change know where to hook in a oil pressure gauge at on the 1mz?

Posted by: Box Mar 30, 2012 - 11:55 AM

Glad you got all of your parts on the way. Hopefully Mr220v can get you hooked up with an ecu that'll work. Found this about adding an oil pressure gauge. Kind of vague, but should give some leads on what to do: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/103-3rd-4th-generation-1992-1996-1997-2001/390334-1mz-fe-oil-pressure.html

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 30, 2012 - 12:03 PM

Think im gonna t it ofc like my 5s
I just have to make sure the gauge is t'd at the right spot

Posted by: richee3 Mar 30, 2012 - 5:10 PM

I might be in Columbus Monday. Not sure what time though. I might be going to a concert that starts at 8 so I'd probably be there around 5 or so. If you want, I could load up that bumper and we could meet up somewhere.
