im broke 87 octane unless im at the street races and i dont want people knowing im a fake! then its 92. haha j/k! kinda! :-P

i cant really justify using higher octane when im not running ANYTHING under the hood!

Higher octain will not doing anything unless your engine needs it or is tuned for it. I use basic 87 because thats all i need.

I have heard that using higher octain will help reduce valve knock with older/high milage cars. but still is point less.

so I should be using the highest I can get for a GT4 then right? even stock

All octane is, is the ability to resist heat. There really is no "power" or mpg upgrade in getting lets say 87 octane to 93. Thats why turbo'd cars and high compression cars take a higher octane so the fuel mixture doesn't ignite before the plug fires.

the lowest grade, cause there is no use spending more on gas when this automatic 7afe isn't gonna see any benefits. i usually stick with cheveron or mobil, shell if there is nothing else. i avoid arco like the plauge since they water down their gas. on my srt4 though, i always ran 91 or better. turbo cars love the premium.

I use 91 octane from Shell. Supposedly really good fuel for your vehicle. Even for vehicles with forced induction. I also heard that Shell's Nitrogen enriched gas is really good for the engine as well. Helps to prevent the build up of "gunk".

I also use 94 Octane from Husky.

Bonzai, Sorry I didn't read the whole thread, but why do you need a higher octane gas on your 7AFE? Just curios, your profile said you have an ST whick takes the regular gas, unless you now have a swapped 3SGTE then I can understand why you're asking all these questions.

ok. Good to know. 91 AKI is a bit too low for a 3sge. Sorry can't help you with the accelerators.
Move to other state biggrin.gif laugh.gif you obviously live in the wrong state. Even a Canadian like me knows that. lol

j/k

same! premium shell gasoline.

i used to use the 87 but switch to 91. it prevents engine knocking.

also toyota said 87 or higher -> higher the better

The best fuel here in CA is 95 ron. California used to be equipped with 98 ron fuel like every other state in the USA until 1991. 3SGE Beams Redtop Motor that requires < 98 ron and for it too run at 100%. Some are say, use 95 ron and ECU will retard timing.Running 95 ron on beams motor feels a bit sluggish.

Racing Fuel cost $9-10 a gallon here in Southern California with 76 gas stations carrying it. Here is List of Gas Stations in California (not updated)

calculator found here http://www.serioussolutions.com/evo/octcalc.htm

Calculations as follow : 9 gallons of 91 octane ($3.25 per gal) + 5 gallons of 100 octane ($9.99 per gal) = 14 gal mixture of 94 octane (overall total = $79.20)

For those of you who go to the track or raising boost levels. The engine has never seemed to knock with 91 octane, but im sure timing is being pulled. A dyno graph with current mods with 91 octane and a 94 octane mixture would be best to see if it actually help...

Now I know that most if not all gas station in California contain up to 6% ethanol blend in the 95 ron fuel for emissions. I just read on ethanol.org that all vehicles are "ethanol-capable" and can use a blend of up to 10% ethanol. Since the 1980s all automakers have covered up to 10% ethanol-blended fuel by warranty, no engine modifications necessary. It is by law, supposed to label how much ethanol blend is in the gas all California use at the pump, which is something i'll check out when I leave the house in a bit

Now mixing E85 ethanol with 95 ron fuel is what I'm after. E85 contains 85% ethanol and 15% fuel which is mainly used on flex fuel vehicles and cars that have been modified to run e85. By modified I mean new fuel lines and what not so that it does eat away at the rubber. E85 is cheaper than 108 ron racing fuel. In fact its about 50 cents cheaper per gallon than 95 ron. E85 is rated at 110-115 ron depending on the mixture. Tell me what you guys think. I also read something on it decreasing fuel mileage by about 10%. Now when I do or if it's safe to do so, mixing 4 gallons in a full tank of gas to achieve my goal of 100 ron mixture shouldn't really affect fuel mileage right?

thoughts on mixing e85 with 91 octane???

It'll drop gas mileage by more than 10%, I can tell you that right now. We have a 2010 Silverado that is averaging 17.1 mpg on regular and 10-12 on E85. If it only lost 10%, it would still do better than 15 mpg. Illinois law requires a 10% blend of ethanol, and I get a steady 23 mpg in my IS 300. However, when I fill up in Indiana or Kentucky, I can easily get 25. Needless to say I'm not a big fan of ethanol. But I'm very curious to see if mixing E85 and regular fuel gets you the results you want since I'll have a BEAMS soon.

did you actually read my whole post??? ya but your silverado is running 10-12 gallons of e85 right?? I only plan on mixing 3-4 gallons max of e85 and the rest with 10 gal of 91 octane. You'll be fine with the 93 octane over in your beams motor. I"ve read that some octane are better than others. 94-95 octane is equal to 100 ron depending on the gas station. I just visited a 76 station and it said this gas contains up to 10% ethanal. Then I went to a Chevron I saw that nothing as listed on the pump, so I guess that chevron didn't??

Yeah, I read the whole post. I was just stating that ethanol will decrease gas mileage. But we don't have BEAMS so we can get 100,000 miles to the gallon now, do we? wink.gif
