Hello 6G Gurus: My car is 1996 ST Hatchback. When the windows are halfway down, the glass has a play in it and makes a noise when shut the door. How do you fix this annoying issue. What new parts do I need to fix this issue. or does it need some sort of washers or adjustment. Ask me if my statement does not make sense.

Thank You

Mine does the same and has since I've owned it. I've learned to just live with it. In for a solution if there is one!

same here. our cars are just old. I'm sure a good tear down and rebuild of any window components would help.

With some online Toyota dealers I see the breakdown schematic of the door but not sure which one of that component would fix the problem. Just like you said that a good rebuild would be fix. I was just trying to gain some knowledge with experience folks like you guys here. I did purchase the door seals and it helped very little with the wind noise. So I can fix the window rattle, then may be the interior wind noise will go down. So many projects, so little time.

Welcome to the world of frameless windows. My Supras did it, my 3000GT did it, my Celica did it, my Miata did it, and my Firebird does it. Once you got the windows about halfway down or lower any time you closed the door you could hear it rattle some. I will say the Firebird rattles the least, but I've noticed it has two metal brackets with felt stops on the top of the doors that push against the glass:

I think I found the cause. Check out this link below. I suspected this all along. The culprit is the metal runner on the inside of the door card/panel.

Richee: Hope this helps.

Yep. You are closer to north pole ;-). I gradually moved south and it is nice here in OK.

Hopefully that takes care of this loose window. They do sell these runners brand new at dealers though. I am going to see how easy it is to replace those.
