MAY 2014 continued

went and picked up my steering wheel from my local 7gc breaker.

hasnt been cleaned but in very good condition. only £20 including airbag!


starting a full led upgrade on an Vauxhall Astra and a sound system upgrade for a Ford Focus this weekend so hopefully have some free time soon to mess about with my own car soon.

will have to swap the airbag refill most likely as i cant seem to source the is300 clock spring cheap enough.

It's just now occurred to me that I forgot to take into account that you're on the other side of the pond. Looking on Ebay UK, it looks like IS300 clocksprings are cheaper here in the States than they are over there, so it may be worth ordering one from over here. I searched for Altezza and IS200 clocksprings as well. The IS200 clockspring looks like it should work but the pictures aren't very clear.

If it helps any, the part number is 84306-60050, whereas my '98 Celica that came with a three spoke wheel is 84306-07010. It's basically identical but the IS300 clockspring has two extra wires for the E shift.

Ur right richee I'm jus browsing eBay.com and the US parts are like a third of the price. il keep an eye out for them but I might need to ask you for help once I get it. if you dony mind of course.

It's come to my attention that a guy on Facebook is trying to put a 7th gen steering wheel in his Celica that has a 4 post wheel. He says the new clockspring won't plug into his steering column, so the IS300 clockspring won't work for him. It works for me since I already had a 3 post wheel. I'm trying to work with him to see what needs to be done, but in the meantime it may be best to simply replace the refill like Malpaso did in his steering wheel swap thread.

Oh ok. atleast I didn't find that out the hard way lol let me know what will actually work and yeah malpaso way might be the best option atm since his 1 was pretty much identical to mine.

It looks to me like you can either swap clocksprings and make that work (which Anthony doesn't think will work since his new clockspring from a '99 won't plug into the steering column from his '94,) swap the airbag refill, or look into these:

I want that sub harness lol I checked handsontools already they don't deliver to UK. I havnt checked with a Toyota dealer yet. I messaged a member on here for it but no reply yet. I might just got with the airbag swap. soldering isnt much of an issue either. it's actually 1 thing I'm good at lol

June 2014

received my gear knob but decided on a colour scheme for the interior now so probably going to get another TRD one.

purchased some parts (happy me, sad bank balance)

parts include:
35mm Apex lowering springs
2x front shocks (1 is leaking)
2x rear shocks (looks like they sagging a little)
4x brake pads (i have done 8k on mine and they were on the car before i bought it so changing just for good measure)
2x new cv boots (1 is cracked, 1 is on its way out)
2x part worn tyres (one was completely bold, 1 was missing a chunk. god knows how that happened)
just waiting for delivery + a day where i can just leave the car at the garage.

still haven't even got round to installing the damn alarm kit in yet.

stuff still left to buy...
D-RC DRS Alloys (Gunmetal, 5x100, 17x7.5j, ET35)
4x new tyres (215/40/R17)
braided brake lines (because stopping is just as important as speed)
poly bushes (they made a noticeable difference in cornering on my last one so might aswel)

all in all, car will probably sit around 52ish mm lower than where it sits now. (35mm springs and probably another 15/18mm due to alloy size reduction) stiffer ride. better cornering with those poly bushes too. AND i can stop properly now smile.gif

might start modding the exterior end of this year. unsure yet as i cant justify spending that much on the exterior as i spend most the time in the car. y'all can donate some parts if you want though lol wink.gif

probably wont do anything to the engine as it is a ****ty 7A-FE unless i find a corolla front clip to drop in.

oh and i found the sub harness at the dealers. need to go buy one on wednesday. so probably will do the steering wheel swap this weekend if all goes to plan and the gf doesn't want to waste my time doing bull**** couple stuff.

JUNE 2014 continued...

touched up the paint a bit. mainly on the rear bumper under the left tail light and a couple of other bits. few spots on the arch where it rusted n paint fell off (will sort that out in the near future) and a few new stone chips on the front bumper while i was on the motorway. will probably do a proper touch up and get rid of all the marks and blemishes when i have the time but not too important at the moment as it still looks pretty good.

TO DO LIST

new tyres and alloys. tyres are going bold. rear alloy got buckled a little while back.
either new exhaust or a new back box.
timing belt. must be due for a change now. i dont know when it has been done last (if it has)
actually installing the car alarm/remote central locking + window closure module
actually installing the suspension, brakes and cv joint boots (booked for next friday)

EXTRAS

custom mod top half of centre console for Google Nexus tablet install
update dial faces
spray paint the interior. gloss black centre console. other parts in silver.
new gear knob. match the interior
new clutch. no real reason why. but i might aswel since im changing everything else.
short shifter. again no real reason hence an extra

knowing me, the extras will probably get done first. i dont really drive much (7k miles in 2 and a half yrs) so pretty sure it isnt going to die on me lol

June 2014 continued...

sometime last week i went to check what the issue was with the back box. found out the joint between the rear and the centre piece was broken so it rattles and sounds pretty bad on low revs so would need to replace everything from the cat back.

at the same time, found out my gearbox was leaking which explained the whining and the recent clunky feeling. also my clutch has started to slip a little (but still very well drivable)

ordered my exhaust today though. stainless steel downpipe, cat, centre silencer, rear backbox.

next month (maybe in a couple of weeks) hopefully have a stage 1 clutch fitted. maybe stage 2 if i can find a decent flywheel also although that will probably feel like **** for daily driving. since im changing the clutch i thought i might aswel have the gearbox reconditioned as it has to come out to be resealed anyway.

car should be driving like new. onto the bodywork then smile.gif
