rust you say.. dont grind the rust, chemically treat it. get rid of the rust and not the metal....

blasting would be the most ideal... but sometimes cant get it.. chemically treat it and then do por15 to seal it...

Its true. With POR15 you just want to wash off any dirt and then you paint directly over the rust.

That's what I ended up doing as well with the heater. Kind of an inconvenience, but it is what it is. Edgar said the AC was charged and full but when I switch to AC and close the heater valve, it doesn't blow cold.... Weird, but I'll look into that later as well.

Try moving the coolant valve adjuster thats in the engine bay by hand. Its probably on full hot, so you are getting ac and full heat.
AC always worked fine when I had the car.

Glad to see you are taking good care of it.

Most of the rust that you are seeing on the rear sub frame should just be on the surface. I would just sand it down and treat it with POR15. Same deal with the springs. They are not that old so unless you want to upgrade the suspension for performance reasons, I wouldn't mess with it. The exhaust was made with aluminized steel at least 10 years ago, so I'm not surprised that you found some rust issues with it. I would honestly just drive it until it fully deteriorates.

I would recommend replacing the power steering pump too. Thats where 90% of the oil mess you are seeing is coming from. It was always on my to-do list.
Doing the front and rear control arm bushings would also be a good idea and a cheap DIY project.

As for the climate control, I had an issue with the temp adjustment getting stuck and not wanting to go full cold/hot. I disconnected the cable from the coolant line in the engine bay and just manually set it by hand to the temp I wanted. I think the issue might be with the climate control unit. Should be a pretty easy and cheap fix to replace it with a used unit.

Can you post up a before and after of the ignition timing map?
Any reason why you had it tuned on a dyno jet versus something like a mustang?

Is your afr gauge calibrated correctly with tuner studio? There is no way the car would idle at that afr.

Congrats on getting it running!
Injector voltage and dead time are super critical to getting a consistent tune. I would make sure you nail those settings before doing any major tuning.

My friend owns a BWM business. She said she ships her cars all the time with https://shipyourcarnow.com/ and has not had any issues.

If you are worried about joy riders, I can activate a rev limiter on the ecu that wont let them rev past 4k.

If you have a Haltech then you should be able to just change some settings for the coil/igniter combo you have. Probably an issue with the dwell being set incorrectly.

seems like sooner or later the US side of the celicas will dissipate, the europe side will continue at least.

I drove this car every single day for the past 15 years. We can continue the tradition with an awesome new owner !

Why I'm selling it:
I have owned this car for the past 15 years and the time has come to finally sell it and get something that is a little bigger and more practical as a daily driver.

The basics:
The car is a 98 GT with 165k on the clock. It is daily driven and 100% mechanically sound. It has a 2nd gen 3sgte swap which was completed in 2004. It also has a Megasquirt DIYPNP standalone ecu which has been running for the past 3 years. Paint is in good shape, but body has a few small dents from being a daily driver. And yes, the AC works and is ice cold.

This would make a great starting point for someones project car. With the standalone ecu, it would just need a set of injectors and a bigger turbo to take it to the next level of performance.

1. The ecu is slightly different between the automatic and manual versions of the car. The automatic might throw a CEL if there are some specific automatic sensors that it looks for. Personally I would just buy the manual version.

5. You need to modify the signal to the stock tach to make it read correctly. There should be an old post about it somewhere.

6. I installed my 2nd gen motor in 2004 and have since put about 110k miles since the swap. They are pretty reliable as far as turbo motors are concerned. Just make sure your seller provides you with compression test numbers and startup warranty.

Keep in mind that with the 4th gen motor you need to fully rewire the harness, while a 3rd gen motor is basically plug and play with the exception of about 4 wires. I would personally go with the 3rd gen motor.

Sorry to hear about the problems, but glad that you see it as a good learning experience !

Overall, the 3sgte swap is pretty hard to beat and I think you'll love it when its all done.
