Love this build. I used to want to buy another 6th gen to build as a rally replica so this is awesome to me. thumbsup.gif

the one that sits on the dash looks a lot nicer.

This. And I think Teo (Endworks) makes them, doesnít he? I donít see them listed anywhere but I couldíve sworn he makes them.

One member here had some made up several years ago. I donít remember who made them but one of the former Midwest guys had one.

Your best bet at this point is probably Anthony Reed.

Those drawn out posts Iíve made and I still havenít addressed the transmission... No manual trans option straight up sucks. No defending that one, no matter how good of a trans it might be. This car definitely wonít be fast enough out of the factory to justify no manual option. And you know itís only a matter of time before thereís an LS in one of these, which will be BA. Since it wonít have the legendary status of the mkIV amongst enthusiasts, and since a lot of people donít like BMW engines, I doubt if many purists will protest V8 swaps.

I did read an article earlier today that said the Supraís engineers havenít talked to BMW since 2014. Thatís four years of development that BMW isnít involved in if itís true.

Hi!, I'm new to this forum message board. I can't see any other post except this one and the sticky? Is there a duration of certain period of day's till I see all the other post?

I got out of the Acura/Honda scene. I feel like the scene got worser by the minute. So I junk 1991 plus a 1995 Acura Integra 2-door, sold 1990 Acura Integra 4-door, and sold 95 Honda Civic hatchback to my friend. I recently bought a 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS 1.8L Turbo but I ran into problems with it. I guess that's why the owner sold it to me for a very good deal(I thought). I've been looking at Toyota Celica the last generation and I felt it's a bit off. Then I ran across a youtube talking about all about Toyota Celica from it being together with Camry and Supra then both those model got separated. I remember my bestfriend cousin from Canada came down to just buy a ST205. After seeing the ST205 I fell in love but I was too into the Acura scene when I was younger like 17 yeras old.

In addition to what Cheela posted, give this thread a read. It's very brief but will answer a question that I'm certain you have. smile.gif

I'm still upset that they teamed up with BMW. Not a Toyota in my mind...

I was at the start as well. I still see BMW's as unreliable but at the same time, BMW builds a great chassis (and we all know Toyota desperately needs to learn a thing or two in that department these days) and BMW is the only logical choice to go to for a straight six. Look at it this way- this car is already rumored to cost $60,000+ USD and has taken YEARS to get this close to production and that's with BMW's help. If Toyota had to develop a new engine from scratch, an engine that would be used in this car and this car alone, imagine the cost and time it would take. We'd nearly never see another Supra. (Not that it seems that BMW helped speed up the process...) But the B58 engine has proved to be pretty reliable so far with decent power potential. We'll see how high mileage examples do, and I'd be worried to drive one of these out of warranty but the Supra will come with Toyota's warranty. I don't believe maintenance can be ignored or put off as with every other Toyota but taken care of, I don't think this will be the worst car Toyota has ever produced. Everything I've ever read about the BMW/Toyota collab says they started off together then went their own separate ways with each car, and only came back together at the very end, supporting Akio Toyoda's claims that "there's a lot more Toyota in this car than people think." I've read that the BMW-Toyota partnership benefits BMW by getting to use Toyota's hybrid technology and Toyota gets to build a better chassis, which will make Toyota more exciting than the appliances they've made over the last decade. The A90 may have a BMW engine but one of the articles above states Toyota electronics, which was one of my big concerns.

QUOTE (cheela @ Sep 19, 2018 - 2:42 PM) *
At least it's return to performance and fun with the 86 and A90
I'd rather have them making more sports cars then more sedan and crossover variants.

This. The JZA80 may have punched outside of it's weight class to take on Corvettes, 911's, even the GTR, but the fact is that it was marketed more against the Z32. It just happened to have much more capability than Toyota liked to pretend. Although I tend to agree with the masses that I'm a little disappointed that the A90 no longer competes with these cars, I can't say I'm surprised either. Toyota has no interest in competing with themselves with the RC-F and LC500, even though those are at a different price point than the A90 is rumored to be. But they can't have their $60k car embarrassing the $90k+ LC500 (even though it's going to anyway- even the name LC is LUXURY coupe, not BARC- badass race coupe.) My hope is that the rumored price point is incorrect because $60k puts this car into C7 Vette and M3 territory, and lined up perfectly with the Cayman they are marketing this against. If that's the case, the car simply won't sell well because there's too much competition at that price range, meaning most people will walk away from the Supra and move onto something else, which will kill production after only a few years. Wait... that sounds familiar... almost like some other car Toyota used to build...

Interesting read on the B58 rumored to power the A90. Definitely has some pros and cons.
http://youwheel.com/home/2016/03/27/detail...ylinder-engine/

From the release of the FT1 concept I have not been a fan of the A90. Hated the looks then, hate the look now. I had a feeling it would be a lame 370Z competitor for $60k, not cool. However, now that Toyota is leaking little teasers, telling us it handles like a Cayman, letting people get pictures of the engine bay so some have taken educated guesses that it's powered by a B58, and they actually encourage people to swap 2JZ's into it and even built the four cylinder to be cheaper and intentionally easy to swap a 2JZ into, that's just awesome. It sounds like Toyota has listened to us after all. They built a car with reinforcements for aftermarket wings, pre drilled for splitters, engine good enough for those that don't want to modify the car, handles exactly how we asked them to make it handle, and made it easy to put a 2JZ into on purpose. What isn't to love there? I'll sum up the highlights- very mod friendly, great handling, put a 2JZ in it. And I strongly suspect from little hints given here and there that they may have even built a test mule with a 2JZ in it just to make sure it doesn't ruin the handling of the car. You know for sure they out one in it at some point to ensure it's not difficult to swap, the way they specifically say buy the cheaper 4 cylinder for swapping legendary Toyota engines into.

I may still have the unpopular opinion here, but I don't care. I think this car will be a huge hit, price tag aside. They literally gave us everything a Supra used to be with some improvements, and since they can't legally put 2JZ's in it themselves, they intentionally made a cheaper model that's easy to swap. Everyone wins.

I thought they'd never make one of these videos. Funny that I was just talking to Jake about it last week. A couple of minor mistakes here and there but overall it was an entertaining 15 minutes! I don't like how much this guy yells or the Pep Boys plugs they implement but overall still entertaining. Wish they would have touched a little more on the SS-III and WRC championships but beggars can't be choosers.

As we draw nearer to the official reveal, we keep getting more and more information on this car and it changing my mind about it. I didn’t care for the looks of the FT1 concept and that still hasn’t changed. However, it seemed at first that we’d be getting maybe a beefed up 370Z. Now we know this car will weigh under 3,300 lbs, have the same structural rigidity as the LFA, lower center of gravity than the 86 triplets, and handle like a Cayman. That all sounds very promising to me. Granted, it still won’t run with the cars that it used to so I can understand why so many people are still upset about it, but the mkIV crowd still expects it to have 800 hp with the potential for about a trillion so they aren’t even giving this car a chance. However, it looks like it’ll have a BMW B58 engine so there will be potential for decent power. As of today, several journalists have gotten their hands on the A90 and the reviews are very positive, which is reinforcing my recent change of heart.

Fail... I totally was thinking KM2s which is a mud terrain. The KO2s are the all terrain.

The one thing I've heard is that the compound on the KO2s is a little softer than other AT tires so it seems that they don't last as long. This coming from peoples w/ HD trucks.

No worries, I know next to nothing about truck tires. Iíve heard good things about the Duratracs but havenít talked to anyone with firsthand experience. Iíve talked to a few people about KO2ís and they all seemed happy with them but Iíve also seen a handful of complaints about vibration issues on some of the Facebook pages, nobody seemed to be able to resolve them short of buying different tires. Between those two I only know that some people agree that the Duratracs is better in the snow but again, not coming directly from any sources that Iíd trust without question. The only thing I know with certainty is that Iím sneaking up on 100k miles and Iíll need new tires right around then. They wonít be highway tires so we wonít need to worry about the few times a year that we end up off road and also because I want stiffer sidewalls to help reduce nosedive. Iíll also be getting a set of Bilstein 5100ís around the same time to stiffen the suspension up a little bit and level the nose out, also to help reduce nosedive.

True story, I had a K02 on the 4Runner for a couple of hours last Spring. Had to have Discount Tire take it back off and give me a matching tire.

Performance on the highway is slightly more important to me than performance off road. I havenít had any grip issues with the ultra crappy Uniroyals I have right now, but I stay out of mud and off of the big rocks. I just need a tire that I donít have to worry about getting punctured when we do wind up off road. I donít want tires that roar going down the highway. The people Iíve talked to with KO2ís say theyíre great on and off road, which is why Iím hesitant to rule them out. However, Iíve heard several complaints online from people saying they can shake pretty bad even with a good road force balance. Iíve nevef heard any complaints about Duratracs but I also donít know anyone personally that has had a set. I imagine theyíre exactly what Iím looking for in a tire but itís hard to say. I definitely need to research the Nittos and Cooper Discovers and Iím sure a few others. Iíve still got 10-15k miles before I absolutely need another set, but I also found these Uniroyaks to be sketchy under 40 degrees last year.

In other news, the new running boards are on. They arenít nearly as bad as I expected them to be. Still not crazy about the silver but that can be fixed. At least they donít hang down 15 feet from the body like the old ones did. The wifey may not like how high they are though...

I have a feeling the Duratracs are a better option. Kinda more of an AT tire, I dislike a mud terrain UNLESS you ABSOLUTELY need them.

I would agree. The Duratracs ate better in snow as well. Everyone Iíve talked to with KO2ís seems to absolutely love them though, which keeps me from completely ruling them out. I havenít even looked into the other options like Nitto Trail/Ridge/Terra Grapplers, or Falken Wildpeaks but after my last couple of experiences with Falken tires Iím not sure I want to give them a chance again. All I know for sure is that my tires are getting towards the end of their life and the next tires wonít be cheap no season highway tires. We find ourselves off road just enough here that I donít want to deal with a popped tire on a trail. We just replaced one of the tires a few months ago thanks to some road debris so these canít even handle the pavement. laugh.gif

Dang Chee La, you’re gonna spend as much money as I did on your swap! laugh.gif

Limiteds have a bigger rocker panel under the doors that the other models don’t do the running boards have to drop a few inches lower to clear that, and ours sit a little lower than factory. But at least they’re the tube style so they aren’t noticeably out of place at first glance, but the ones we are getting are identical to yours with the exception of they’ll have a silver strip on the side instead of chrome. The silver on the side of the running boards along with the gap between the body will look goofy and out of place on ours compared to yours. I still want your Nautical Blue, JBL sound system and XREAS though... and I need a set of BFG KO2’s or Goodyear Duratracs for sure around here.

Over the weekend, we had to drive the 4Runner up a pretty gnarly trail. Since the wife is short, she bought some aftermarket running boards for a Limited 4Runner that hang lower than SR5/Trail/TRD running boards. Only picture I have that shows them:

They still have decent ground clearance but I still normally take them off before hitting any trails. We were planning on making the 8 mile hike up this trail rather than driving but that didnít quite work out... ended up destroying the driver running board on that trip. laugh.gif Gitta replace that this weekend. Found some cheap OEM 2010-13 SR5 running boards that should look even goofier than what we have now. Got plenty of trail scars in the paint too, but they buffed out pretty well. But at least the pictures turned out decent?

I really need a full frame camera. Thanks for making me want to spend money, Chee La...

That’s just the NA 2JZ CheeCheeT-i. The 1JChee-CheeTE still had good internals. Looks like he dropped 2CheeR in the car to me though.
