6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ RoadRage's Progression

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 3, 2014 - 9:11 AM

Hello 6GC'ers

My name's Tom, called Tj by friends and family, and after owning my 6gc for almost 2 months now and being part of these forums, I have decided to create my own progress thread.

I like reading up member's stories and how their cars came to be in the My Project section, so I thought I could contribute my own story, and I'd like to keep a collection of what I've done. [Long story ahead]
Every since I was little I always had an obsession with Celica's and I probably annoyed the hell out of my parents about how much I talked about them,
Come Christmas when I was 16 (Currently 19) A family friend was getting rid of his car and offered it to my parents as a Christmas present for me, it was a pretty big surprise for me to receive a car for Christmas, but I couldn't drive it independently until 1.5 years later, when I got my probationary license, not the greatest or safest car but it took me places and taught me a lot about car maintenance and care.

That was until November 2013, when on a rainy morning driving to work on a gravel road, I hit some pothole and lost control and managed to flip the car.
Car was wrecked and I was lucky to be even alive, let alone walk away unscratched.

I came back the next day to collect and sell the car to a junkyard, but someone stole all the wheels

This however gave me the opportunity to search the car I've been obsessing since childhood,

After constant search to find the 'perfect one' and feeling frustration that I was stuck inside the house, because here in Australia, its basically a 15 min drive just to the shopping store, or 30 min drive to a friends house, I think I was coming down with cabin fever, or just really really starting to hate public transport,

Until I was rummaging through newspapers at the girlfriends house, where I came across an ad of a celica for sale,
I saw it the next day and thought it was perfect, however the sunroof was completely wrecked, and the dealer that was selling took 3 weeks to fix it.
I cannot tell you the anticipation I was feeling then..
Finally came the day where I got my baby, and 1 year warranty biggrin.gif

First night I got it.

I loved the car so much that since I've owned it, I've driven 7000 km (~4500 miles) in under 2 months already,
It came with missing parts where the cigarette lighter is, the dash has been drilled into for some phone holder, and all the panels for the driver's side were missing, so my first mod's were to make sure the car ran good, meaning do an oil flush because the amount of sludge I found was shocking) and change air filter, and usual maintenance, then get onto getting those panels.

Finding parts at yards was a bit difficult because there weren't many 6gc's anymore, until I got lucky and found 3 in one spot (even tho it was sad to see wrecked 6gc's frown.gif)

My first proper mod was a full sound system upgrade. After receiving the car, and not playing the radio during the test drive, found out 3 speakers were blown, So I got myself this nice package smile.gif

I did spoil myself, I decided since the car is red to go with a red theme, meaning get a head unit that has a red display, but then after seeing one of special that changes colours I had to get it.

Going from a cassette player and non working CD player (with missing buttons of course):

To:

I also cut out some of my own lovely mounts tongue.gif , turned out pretty well

For the sub wiring, had to rip out the back seats, but gave me a good chance to clean whatever dirt was there

The sub seemed to fit well in the back, (noticed I have no pics of sub, will take soon)

The weekend I spent installing all the audio, I reversed the car all the way back, because I choose the perfect day of 43 degrees weather, and theres no way I wanted to roast in the sun

Following the red theme, I put in some footwell LED's, that are door activated

During the night time when I open my doors people say 'wow that looks great' and now I've gone to install LED's in 2 of my friends cars tongue.gif

I have also whipped out my fancy camera, and tried taking some artsy photos,

Im hoping my camera skills will improve with time haha

I had the idea to plastidip my badges, I screwed up the back and couldn't get all the stuff off so I had to take the back badge off and the next day, either someone stole my front badge or it fell off, So I've been contemplating..

looks a bit ridiculous, so in the meantime I've gone badgeless, but I have put in so much effort in trying to rub off the glue residue, and theres still damn glue there

Some more photography while driving in the countryside

I do have to say the mod bug has bitten, and I am looking to do a bunch of things, im just waiting until my budget allows me,
For now I am waiting on new armest cover and trying to get headlight seals for the lowbeams.

My most recent photo, (and favorite so far) taken on the weekend

I think I'll stop typing now and head off to bed, and update later tomorrow with even more photos
I didn't realize I typed this much, but I feel so much passion for this car, Feels like I'm already driving my dream car and it feels great every time I walk out to the driveway to know that the car right there is mine, and how it great it feels to drive, I love working on it and If i'm not, I'm on these forums at least twice a day

And even if I'm not doing that, Playing Forza 5, guess what car I have?

Yup.. (taken when I glitched out of the showroom)

Thanks if you took time time to actually read all this, lol tongue.gif

There is a big dent/hole under the car where the jacking point is, and I was trying to mould it back into shape, but it was too difficult so I started removing panels and then thought I'd do what I've been planning to do for the last 2 weeks, which was add my grille in the front and see whats wrong with my washer motor, because it didn't work.

Heres a better photo

Turns out the washer motor is blocked, so I'm off to the junkyard to find a new piece.
The grille turned out really well tho, but I've seen you painted those 5 vertical rubber pieces white, and makes the car look better. What was your process?

Next week, I'll get around to paint them, and im guessing the process was get a can mixed from super cheap or autobarn, then just spray it on?

The black is a cover, pinch behind it and pull forward and it will yank off and underneath will be a smaller colour coded bar which is the support. No paint or parts needed!
What grille meshing is that and how did you hold it in? I am gonna re do mine

Posted by: JoshuaM Feb 5, 2014 - 11:45 PM

No paint needed... Just take off the black covers and they should be painted underneath smile.gif

p.s. Welcome smile.gif I'm 19 too and in Brisbane (most of the time... In California atm)... But I got my car from Vic tongue.gif

Red is awesome... Looking forward to seeing what comes next smile.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 5, 2014 - 11:55 PM

Well... I didn't actually think of that, I bought $30 mesh from Autobarn, but i used self tapping screws behind that cover to keep the mesh on, but I'll have a play around when I get back from junkyard and take a pic, but if im taking off those covers.. then I'll just glue it on I suppose

And you are welcome to stay at mine too, however I dont have any fancy fold out beds, just a mattress

And yes, red is awesome.. I've always had a preference for white, but after looking on the celica market, there was only 1 white one for sale, and it was too expensive, and I looked at others and in the end, I'm liking red much better.. Happy I went with it

Make sure that the rubber behind the light is sealed properly... Mine wasn't for a bit and it resulted in water getting in and fogging the fog lights up... lol

Wow looks awesome! Once it warms up that's exactly what I'll be doing, can't wait smile.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 7, 2014 - 10:54 AM

Thank you, here are some more photos of it

After I took the first photo, my cat had to inspect the work and had to be cat-approved before I bolted the bumper back on

I then had to drive to the airport to pick up family friends, on the way back my right signal started going crazy and was indicating insanely fast and thought great, I must of messed up something in the fog lights that affected the indicator, so when I got back home (3am) I had a look and luckily it was just the front bulb has gone out, So I went and took these photos of the lights in the night,

But of course, It had to be cat-approved again

Here are the lights by themselves

Then all lights on

I'm loving them, look good and useful when needed

Posted by: rentaspace Feb 7, 2014 - 9:41 PM

Cats:

got more somewhere of him claiming my splitters, computer and bed >.<

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 8, 2014 - 12:37 AM

I have lots of photos of her in my old car

So fluffly, She hasn't really been around the Celica, but my girlfriends cat loves sitting inside it, so much after while he starts doing his nails on the seats... :l

Ok, now for a small update for whats been happening inbetween

before I put on the grille, had a car wash

but now its seriously dirty again frown.gif and its waaay to hot to have a car wash anytime this weekend
Then we had a bit of a photoshoot with my friend's Falcon and Commodore

Celica lookin sexy
except the missing seals on headlight, but they are on the way

I also noticed un-used brake bulbs in the back so I hooked them up to work when I brake

I just ordered clear side turn indicators aswell and now waiting for them to arrive biggrin.gif

Last week amongst all the heatwave of 40 degrees C, it actually rained a bit and took my camera out for some photos, but they are on another computer, so I will upload those too when I get home

And also, yes I did check the seals, they are all good. Just as I bought these lights my neighbour came around and saw I was installing fog lights and he said he has a pair he had on his car that were pricey ones, but when he replaced his bull bar (it was on a 4WD) he never put them back on and gave me them for free smile.gif
They are pretty fancy looking, but I already cut out the shape of my foglights in the mesh, so now I'll have to decide whats gonna happen with them

Posted by: rentaspace Feb 8, 2014 - 12:51 AM

In the near future I will probably be selling my Clear Lenses for my Front Indicators; This will only happen if I get the chance to install the GT4 front end. So will be later this year... maybe even next year...

Posted by: cjpost Feb 8, 2014 - 10:52 AM

I really like the fog lights, how hard was the installation process?

I would love to see you put on the GT4 front end

The fog lights are easy to install when you follow the many guides, I sent a wire up to roadrage when he did this:)
We have the exact same lights too.
I may be selling mine whenever I get around to installing the GT4 front end, since I have OEM GT4 fogs

I Pm'ed rentaspace about how to do it and his reply was very helpful and thought me how to do it, so If you are interested I can write up the way I did it, installation is fairly straight forward..

With that being said, 1 day later they stopped worked so I took the bumper off again to see what happened and turns out the relay wasn't grounded properly, So i had to fix it up.
I went out to take some photos and after reading through the forums and seeing the calendar that is made here, I'm making it my goal now to make it into the 2015 calendar smile.gif

Also the car got washed yesterday smile.gif

Photos coming soon

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 13, 2014 - 6:44 AM

Ok photo update time

Continuing with the cats and celicas..

As I wrote last week about how my girlfriends cat loves climbing inside my car.. no surprise, he did this about half an hour later I wrote that

Me and my girlfriend went up to a lookout during the night, and then i snapped this pic

Then my cat stood guard of the car when we got home tongue.gif

I've been getting out and about on mini-road trips and been able to capture some photos and I think I've done a decent job smile.gif
First was a drive in the mountains

Followed by some beach photos

I really like how they turned out...

Some real progress will be coming soon.. just waiting for parts to arrive biggrin.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 15, 2014 - 6:32 AM

Back from our roadtrip smile.gif

I took photos, but can't upload because I don't have cable with, but I did take 2 phone photos..

Before packing, finally took a photo of the sub set up, of course including my girlfriends cat tongue.gif
I really love the sub, adds a nice 'kick'

And the only photo I took on my phone during our road trip, on the beach.. all before we started heading off the main roads

More to come....

Also - JUST ORDERED JDM TAILS biggrin.gif ... now begins the wait

Posted by: rentaspace Feb 15, 2014 - 7:12 PM

My cat strikes again.
Gonna have to reregister it in his name tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 16, 2014 - 7:45 PM

Ok, got the photos,

Our roadtrip included of this lovely little campsite tongue.gif

Then we decided to start heading offroad

and create some dust

and then I tried to take a shortcut.. which lead us onto this

.. It was a little bumpy.. I scraped on one part of the track and the grille came out of place, so I have to put it back in frown.gif

By this time the celica was getting a bit dirty tongue.gif

And on the way home.. I needed a reminder on which side to drive haha

In total drove about 600km's, once we got into the more 'remote' areas I got to drive on The Great Ocean Road. It is a great road to drive on, route along the beach along with really windy roads.. I loved it..

Looks good!

What was that website that had the hood latch again?

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 19, 2014 - 7:33 AM

http://www.amayama.com

I'm getting the parts numbers from http://www.toyodiy.com

but looking up the hood latch is confusing because of the different euro, jap and 'general' models on there.. but i think its the jap one..

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 20, 2014 - 8:24 AM

Small Update..

I've had my gear boot cover on, but didn't have photos of it, I've also had a play with photoshop of making easier before and after photos tongue.gif

What came with the car was pretty awful, pretty happen with new one smile.gif

My armrest cover also arrived, of course using red thread, Once I stretched the leather I took the thread out so I could use the cup holders, because the screws once put together would keep it in place..

Posted by: Tomski Feb 20, 2014 - 7:52 PM

Looking really good mate. Also nice too see that you are enjoying your Celica to the fullest with all those road trips away biggrin.gif. I am thinking about ordering the red stitched leather centre console cover as well. Where did you get yours from? Cheers,

Tom

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 21, 2014 - 2:53 AM

Thank you! biggrin.gif I'm loving my celica.

I ordered mine on ebay from topgaiters

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FITS-TOYOTA-CELICA-LEATHER-ARMREST-RED-ST-94-99-MK6-GEN6-/351001799387?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item51b9566adb

but there is also a member here named vincent_doggy who sells them.

http://www.kamikaze.com.hk/product.php?id_product=68
There's a bunch of variety too, not just black with red stitching, on the ebay one you have to find the listing..

Also, A package arrived today redface.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 23, 2014 - 6:32 AM

Josh advises me not to...
The car came with it, I have no intention of using it

Only reason I'm keeping it on is as a 'form' of protection
If someone rear ends me that hitch leaves a nice surprise for their radiator tongue.gif

I was going to remove it but a 7 car pile up of someone rearending someone else, then rearending someone else... Etc happened today right next to me, made me uncertain kindasad.gif

Also seeing what happened to PegGTS doesn't help tongue.gif

Posted by: The_enD Feb 23, 2014 - 7:07 AM

It's a not going to save your ass (your car's ass to be specific) as it's not the full setup. It will just go through whatever hits it. Just hope it's not some SUV as your new JDM tails will be victims. tongue.gif
I have made a habit of looking at the rear view mirrors before braking to see if someone is coming too fast.

Looking really nice man! Personally I'd remove the Toyota Celica badges. I think it looks cleaner but maybe that's just me, maybe I'm biased tongue.gif

Or go with the cursive "Celica" badge, dont see to many of those around. Your build is coming along very nicely though man, keep it up.

Ha says the other guy who paid a hefty price for a shiny new badge tongue.gif

Haha yeah wish I didn't have to go through the dealer to get the front badge, so expensive kindasad.gif at least it's shiny though! Well not anymore because it's plasti dipped tongue.gif

And I meant just remove the badges that say "Toyota Celica", not the actual Toyota logo, I like the way it looks with just the logo in the middle smile.gif

In the meantime I've seen the I love my Celica sticker that has the Gen 7 Outline, done search and didnt find one with the 6th
So I went to create my own

Turned out pretty well smile.gif
Still needs some work refining some sharp edges

I also prefer the cursive Celica break light tongue.gif

Oooh they're not replicas tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 27, 2014 - 11:23 PM

Thing have been quiet lately, however I have 2 things to update..

Anyone who has seen my topic on the exterior thread knows I've run into some trouble with the spoiler blocks, however they are making progress and are very close to be done tongue.gif

I drove around spoilerless for a few days (until I saw raining coming and put original spoiler back on)

blocks are filled and primed, now I am just weatherproofing the bottom with some rubber and sealant,
fits the car no problems tongue.gif they just need to be mounted

Today I was just about to continue work on risers, I decided to check local Junkyard list and saw that a new celica was in! It also had sideskirts
I rushed over and surely they were there!
I started removing and once one was off..
The amount of dirt that fell out of was unbelievable!

The drivers side one was slightly bent from the rims that held the car up, however I managed to remove it and fixing it will be easy..

I got home, I was too excited and tried fitment on my car.
Help up courtesy of 2 rocks smile.gif

I then washed and cleaned them

Pretty happy about them. I've been scouring yards for celica parts and as hard as it is to find a celica in a yard, sideskirts are even harder because either the car is a different trim model, the car is completely neglected and the skirts are broken/cracked all over or the junkyard doesn't care and break them when moving the car into the yard. Overall.. great purchase for $60 and another project for me to do smile.gif

BIG update is here! (sorta)

I took photos while I was installing and it was getting dark so all I have for now is phone pics

I plan to go out and have a nice photoshoot sometime this week tongue.gif

So, A rather large package arrived at my door only after 4 days it shipped from japan biggrin.gif

it consisted of front splitters, (however the condition of them wasn't as great as thought, no big problem, just gonna require more effort to fix them up, so they aren't going on the car for a while)

And as resistant I was to rear splitters Josh sent me them anyway lol and suggested to just 'try' them on and see how I feel.

And.. well I do like them, so they are staying smile.gif

and now the BIG!! part,

PROJECTORS!!

Yup, they finally happened

So shiny tongue.gif
best purchase ever!
Installation was fairly straight forward and I think it enhances the cars look greatly

More photos to come later during the week
I need some rest haha

also: I got a new grille and I've hid the foglights behind the grille so the mesh in there will look more 'flush' with the bumper smile.gif

Gonna update this since it hasn't been updated in a while smile.gif

Quite a few things have happened and I have a lot more things that I have in the garage that need to happen!

Not going to write it all now, but will update it all tomorrow hopefully

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 3, 2014 - 11:09 PM

Ok!! Update time!!

Been a bit lazy with keeping this up to date so lets get started --

I got my strut bar in, but the way my sub was set up, the bar couldn't fit so I went down to my hardware store and got a piece of wood and cut it to shape so I can lay down the sub and fit the bar,
Then I tidied my boot up smile.gif

I went back to finishing my Raiser blocks, the bottom piece was missing so I got creative and made my own mounts

Then proceeded to paint and weatherproof the bottom, this is everything that went into it tongue.gif

pretty much ready to install

And Finished!! First photo after they were on

Only about 2 days after the spoiler, I reached in my passenger side to find it basically filled with water from a leak somewhere, I ripped the passenger side apart and couldn't find the cause, because water was everywhere. ....... Eventually it was found out that the windscreen sealant had completely come apart on the passanger side so off I went to get a new windscreen

I always love spotting other 6gc's and taking photos with them tongue.gif

6gc's aren't the most common sight where I live, but i was pretty surprised to see one when my girlfriend and I drove about 2 hours up to see snow in the mountains and behold, there was one tongue.gif

I then got clear turns finally! the last piece of the puzzle for my clear turn singals

I also got a set of TEIN lowering springs from rentaspace, but i am holding out on the install, till i get around to buying some new shocks along with it.

After this it was pretty much quiet for a while as I was back at uni and it was keeping me busy, however I notcied 2 new celicas showed up at my local wrecker so I went to check them out and found that the first one had a white cluster, and I thought why the heck not, ill grab it, put some contrast in my dash

Also ordered some carbon fibre wrap and its on its way, hoping to spice up my dash a bit since I find it a bit plain tongue.gif

The other Celica however! At first I didnt notice, but it was a personal import from Japan, it was in serious rough shape and didn't have much to offer so I was about to leave it, until I noticed it had Power Folding Mirrors!
Then i spent the next 2 or 3 so hours taking apart the whole interior and try to get as much wiring out as possible tongue.gif
Not bad for 50 bucks

That is pretty much up to date..
I got plenty of things in my garage waiting to be worked on, so I got plenty of things to keep me busy (not only uni)

I will most likely start work on the sideskirts, which have been laying around since about april now, then do the front splitters,
But the mirrors are so tempting to work on tongue.gif, might do those first

Hope you enjoyed my update thumbsup.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 11, 2014 - 10:54 PM

Ok so, I have been busy with university lately, but this week I have off and I decided to start working on the things that have been waiting in the garage for me

There is a car show I would like to attend on Sunday so today I am starting

Tj's 6 Day Overhaul

Day One of Six

So my first day off began as setting up the garage as my workshop for the following days to be ready to work for Front SSIII splitters, OEM skirts, JDM Folding mirrors, and Carbon Fibre wrap for interior bits,
It was pretty damn cold outside so I even put a heater up for me tongue.gif

I first started on the splitters, how ever the photo that I thought I bought was a bit different from arrived

The bottom was completely cracked and scratched up and held together by flimsy zipties.. kindasad.gif

Doesn't matter.. went out and bought supplies and started applying a fibreglass repair kit for the splitters, pretty straight forward except I only applied on the back and stupid me should have applied some resin in the crack aswell..
Will make some more resin tomorrow and fill the crack

While waiting for the resin to dry (before I realized I forgot the crack) I started to work on the mirrors and curious me wanted to open up the motor and take it apart, (Also because i chewed the screws for this mirror and I thought there was a way to see on the other side how far to drill)... then i forgot how to put it back together frown.gif

I started late today.. and its getting too late tonight so this is my wrap up for Day One..
Big mess left on the table lol

Hope to get much more done tomorrow and put the mirror back together haha,
Stay tuned for Day Two tongue.gif

Posted by: JoshuaM Aug 11, 2014 - 10:57 PM

FINALLY! tongue.gif

Posted by: rentaspace Aug 12, 2014 - 4:41 AM

What about today's progress? o.O tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 13, 2014 - 6:14 AM

Alrighty here we go

Day Two of Six

Started out with cleaning up and putting the mirrors back together neatly and make sure everything seems to be in the right spot

The screws were eff'd on the drivers mirror so I tried to drilled them out and and they weren't budging so intead I made the hole big enough to fit self tapper screws to use as a replacement, haha it does the job

That was it for the mirrors, they are ready for wiring, but they are last on the list so they have been put away and will get back to them when other bits are done

Now this part I done goofed, The night before i forgot to put resin in the cracks of the splitter, so i did that and while waiting for them to dry I sanded down the other splitter,
Ready to start the primer on the good splitter, I started to spray and after 1 coat I realized the primer i bought isn't sticking to the splitter at all and it just runs down..
Worked perfectly fine on a bumper that was done for my friend but obviously not on these splitters (its some plastic, clear primer), So i swapped the primer can with my friend for clearcoat can and went out and bought some proper primer.
Got home and sanded down the old runny primer and started sanding the cracked splitter, only to be too rough and make the recently dried fibgrelass snap off! kindasad.gif

mad.gif

Re-applied the resin on the splitter and let it dry, while i finished sanding the good one. By this point I had enough of sanding and my Carbon fibre wrap arrived, so I thought lets get started on that

Pulled out some chunks of the car and started simple

The cigarette ashtray thing

2 HOURS LATER

FINALLY! something

Followed by

Most time consuming thing ever.. I've long lost count of how much time I have spent on this trying to perfect every corner,
this is pretty damn difficult lol, or maybe i am retarded or too much of a perfectionist

But lastly, the most rage inducing piece (so far)

I'd also like to thanks for my GF letting me use her hair dryer haha

By this time it was late late night and i was tired, so I installed the bits I've done so far

Looks good but I went through plenty of rage haha,
thats my wrap up for Day two,
Barely any paint, so tomorrow will be focused on getting on all bits primered

To be continued!

Posted by: The_enD Aug 13, 2014 - 6:46 AM

Sorry to inform you, but fiberglass does not adhere well to plastic. kindasad.gif
Force it and it just brakes clean off.

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 13, 2014 - 7:04 AM

Yeah the way it snapped I figured, but this time I used like 3 times the amount of resin, and I sort of tested it with just forcing it by my hand and it kept together

I doubt the splitter will be going through much force anyway, so it does the job
Unless I scrape badly when I'm lowered tongue.gif

Posted by: JFXtreme007 Aug 13, 2014 - 7:42 AM

I'm loving the Carbon Fibre look! and yeah if it takes a while because of being a perfectionist, i better not even start tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 15, 2014 - 7:08 AM

Nahh, its not that bad, gives pretty good look for something I paid 10 bucks for tongue.gif

Day Three of Six has begun!

The skirts have been prepped and 1 splitter was ready for primer so I sprayed the 1 splitter

Applied body filler to the bad splitter and let it dry

While waiting to try I started sprayed the primer on the skirts

I moved to the backyard where the second skirt was and noticed some bumps I missed on it and sanded it down a bit all while Oscar (My dog) was just sitting there all concerned haha

I think he wants treats tongue.gif

By this time the body filler has dried so I sanded down the splitter and then primed it

That is it for Day Three, all items primed ready to paint for tomorrow smile.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 15, 2014 - 7:13 AM

However! Day Three didn't end too well, by the end of day 3 my back was in a lot of pain and I was struggling to walk and was barely able to sit from this bump I had on the back of my spine and I went to the doctor the next morning and was informed I would have to go to emergency hospital and have an operation,

So Day 4 was spent all day in hospital and most of Day 5 and now I need to rest up frown.gif

Looks like paint will be delayed and wont be on the car by the time of the show but I will still try to attend smile.gif

Posted by: Lil-Joe101 Aug 16, 2014 - 5:00 AM

AWESOME WORK DUDE!!!!

Posted by: RoadRage Nov 23, 2014 - 7:52 PM

Alrighty... I think its time for an update smile.gif

So my 6 day overhaul got cut short haha, and then I fell behind in Uni and had to catch up, however, Uni for this year is finished so its time to continue tongue.gif

I set up at a friends house and get to finishing off the skirts and splitters

I then tried a test fit and came up pretty well, however they looked completely different colour because the car was dirty as fck haha

In the meantime, my front bumper started to deteriorate really bad, really quickly, as seen in this picture (featuring my cat)

The paint started to peel over the front and at the bottom of the grille, so I took it off to give it a respray

Then it was time to stick the skirts on, drilling holes on the bottom and using mounting tape for the top part, however the tape turned out to be useless, so I got the Sika Sealant out and it did the job, so I jammed some things against the skirt to hold it in place (Yes, that is a printer in there, It's all I could find lol)

It was starting to get dark so I decided to put the bumper back on, unfinished, but it was looking better than before anyway haha

After some time, the sealant dried and this is the final result. For one side anway

Came up pretty nice smile.gif, still have some sealant to clean up but pretty happy with the skirt

I was determined to finish the rest tomorrow, but I woke up today and its windy and rainy, so I guess the rest has to wait until the sun comes up again.. (hopefully tomorrow)
Until then, driving around with 1 skirt and unfinished bumper haha

Posted by: RoadRage Dec 20, 2014 - 8:54 AM

Update timeeee
An opportunity came up for a set of wheels found by JoshM on the internets that I was very undecided for, but after much peer pressure, I agreed haha

Picked them up the next day for a great deal

17x7 +30 offset on 205/40 tyres

Quite the difference from whats on there haha

However sadly the lugnuts given were the wrong size so I couldn't put them on same day, so I had to use my imagination

Now get ready for a photo montage tongue.gif

The last photo shows how the dirty car is I have been spending the rest of the day polishing and waxing the car tongue.gif

Pretty happy with the wheels anyway, Not the best specs but they look really nice tongue.gif
These wheels however show off that the car needs moar low, which will come in due time smile.gif

It is tongue.gif He does have TEIN springs waiting to lower it... just needs to get new shocks. And those tires are smaller than we anticipated which isn't helping the matter tongue.gif

Posted by: PegGTS Dec 20, 2014 - 10:07 AM

Needs more tire wink.gif Haha kidding, looks nice man! Just some low and spacers and you're good!

Posted by: jordisonjr Dec 22, 2014 - 9:30 AM

You're gunna need more than Tien Springs to fix that.

Posted by: RoadRage Dec 24, 2014 - 7:01 PM

Yes the wheel gap is horrible tongue.gif

The Tein springs is all I got so I'll have to make it work

Posted by: RoadRage Feb 4, 2015 - 7:49 AM

I'll post better details later, but I have been back at making full use of the Celica and exploring Australia tongue.gif

Trying to be as 'Aussie' as possible for the Australia Day long weekend tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 3, 2015 - 9:43 AM

Thought I'd post an update because why not

Celica is still going strong haven't done much to it since last update, still needs moar low

But I've been pretty good and taking it places and getting it a bit muddy haha

And then clean it for a few hours

Scratching up the paint. redface.gif

Posted by: Bimbo Aug 16, 2015 - 9:25 PM

Beautiful landscapes

Posted by: RoadRage Sep 19, 2015 - 4:32 AM

Another update,
I got a puncture on the way home one day, and decided it was time for a new set of tyres as I did not like how skinny my current ones were and 3 of them were low on thread anyway, and then my celi was off the road for a week getting a new throttle and clutch, but now it runs great smile.gif

So went out for a cruise with another 6gc buddy and we ended up snapping these pics

Which led to a cruise in the mountains where we found snow! (Yes snow in Strayaland)

I still wanted to try a different colour for the interior, and I was sick of the wraps I tried peeling and bubbling, so I gave Plastidip a try, and I'm liking how its come out, nice and subtle

---

In more exciting news, A GT-Four bumper and bonnet came up for sale in another state, and I jumped on it, but tried a ridiculous offer first, and he accepted it! and threw in a few extras for extra $50.
Thanks to Ryan (Rentaspace) for picking it up for me and keeping it till I drive ~900km up to Sydney in a few weeks. Obviously it will be while till its on my car till I bring it back to Vic and paint it frown.gif

A week after than I was linked to a cheap 95 SX, and it had Caldinas, it was a too good of a deal to pass up!

So with the help of some friends, and a permit I drove it home, the engine ran perfect, however the ride wasn't the smoothest! Click and clunks and a whole bunch of noises were coming from it, but it made it home! and the 2 Celicas met for the first time

I jacked it up and check out the problem, and both bearings seem gone along passenger CV joint, and then I got curious about the Caldinas...

I love the look, I can't decide between the two.. going to keep the gold ones for a while anyway, i just got new tyres, I pulled out my old 15's from the garage and put those on the second celica, and put the Caldinas away, now its time to decide to keep this car as a back up, part it out, or repair its problems and try to sell again... hmm tough decisions

Posted by: jordisonjr Sep 21, 2015 - 8:34 AM

I personally like the look of the Gold wheels, but a bigger tire size would help get rid of some of the wheel gap a lot.
I wish I coudl run that wheel on my car laugh.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Sep 22, 2015 - 6:40 AM

I did get bigger tyres, went from 205/40/17 up to 215/45/17, and reduced wheel gap a bit, i still need to get new shocks so i can put my Teins in.

Instead, I'm getting distracted by stuff like this...
I was visiting a wrecker to try find some various small parts and behold I found this in one of the Celicas!

Red Leather! in near perfect condition. some small scratches
I had a bit of a think, and even though it seems a bit tacky I decided to buy since it was super cheap and give it a try
crammed into friends car

At home

Will give a good clean and fit in my car and see how I like, if not I will sell on tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Oct 15, 2015 - 12:19 PM

So finally home and quickly changed the seats over because that night I was leaving for a roadtrip from Melbourne to Sydney with a few mates
Didn't take pics till later in the journey, and unfortunately I forgot to bring the memory card for the camera so it was useless, had to settle for phone pics

Met up with James (JFXtreme007) and snapped a few pics

Then went to the yearly Toyotafest event but didn't take any pics haha
Picked up the GT Four bits from Ryan and headed home (yes all crammed in the boot)
Second we got home I was eager to try out the new bonnet

Quite nice besides the different colour tongue.gif, but the original bonnet back on since silver looked silly, and i need to modify the latch,
I got plenty of things to keep me busy in the garage now,

Also I was letting my turtle have a wander in the grass in the front yard and got this picture with the second celica, two turtles in one pic haha

More updates to come... hopefully tongue.gif

Thanks cheela smile.gif

THE LUCKY STREAK CONTINUES!

Friend contacted me of this beauty popping up at a wrecker, of course I ran down to take a look

seems like a 3S-FE import, had a few JDM goodies but 90% of the stuff was really worn out and looked disgusting, I salvaged what I could, got my hands on the visor, Forgmann spoiler, TRD rear spats, rain guards and it also had an air purifier! I never seen one so I thought why not tongue.gif

I also got a set of TEIN lowering springs from rentaspace, but i am holding out on the install, till i get around to buying some new shocks along with it.

Only took 1 year and 3 months to acquire shocks tongue.gif hopefully it wont take that long to install haha..

I'm gathering a few more items so I can install all at once while the cars apart

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 23, 2016 - 4:11 AM

Update time!!!
(Lots of pictures incoming)

So after a while all my parts have been gathered and it was time for low!!
The preparation:
New pads, new rotors, caliper paint, KYB shocks, Tein springs, spacers, Cusco underbody brace

Started off with washing the car, so its nice and clean before any work started

It begins, took wheels off

Removed everything

And repeat that 3 more times, and of course the very last bolt i had to remove for the rear left was a total b**** that didnt want to move and took over 1 hour of effort to get it off haha

Old vs News

Started painting calipers red (for that extra HP tongue.gif)

Also did some plastidipping smile.gif

Think it was time to try a new colour for the wheels

While waiting for the calipers and the wheels to dry, decided to put the underbody brace on, pretty simple process, 4 bolts, but had to cut some of the underbody plastic and ziptie it around the brace

Had to go out to buy a bigger wrench for the front inserts, and started putting the shocks together, along with sanding the rust off the hub and putting rotors back on, along with spacers

Pushed the caliper piston back in, greased everything up

And now the exciting part!!!
Put the wheels back on

And took the stand out and behold!!

Picture of the fitment from front on

Passed the shoe test haha tongue.gif

Next morning took it to have an alignment

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 23, 2016 - 4:19 AM

Have to say, loving the new look smile.gif, and handles so much nicer,

Went out for a cruise with a friend

--

Unfortunately since then, I've had an issue with the Plastidip and the wheels making a funny noise (which has been sorted now)
So been rolling on Caldinas for last 2 days, but hopefully the white wheels will be back on tomorrow

And other news! A too good offer of a 205 J-SPEED strut brace popped up and I grabbed it, and put in on,
Before

After

However since it is for a 205, the brace goes higher and doesn't fit the 204 bonnet, and closing the 204 bonnet is very difficult and when you do manage to close it and drive the edges of the bonnet seem to wobble with the wind because the bonnet noticeable sits higher.

So I guess the 205 bonnet i have sitting around has to be painted sooner than planned and put on smile.gif
Thats it for the update, tomorrow fixing the plastidip and putting the white wheels back on
Thanks for reading biggrin.gif

Very nice! What is the MM on the spacers? 25?

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 23, 2016 - 7:56 AM

Thanks!
20 in the front, 25 in the rear

Like the white rims. Every car should have em

Posted by: HectortheRican Mar 23, 2016 - 10:26 AM

I've always wanted a Cusco underbody brace!! So jealous.

Great looking Celi, man. Wheels and fenders look perfect after that drop.

Posted by: Box Mar 23, 2016 - 12:39 PM

Yay handling better and looking better!

Posted by: PegGTS Mar 23, 2016 - 3:17 PM

Took you long enough... rolleyes.gif

What was the issue with the plastidip?

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 24, 2016 - 9:42 AM

Thanks guys,

The brake in coating of the pads left a huge amount of brake dust on the wheels and when I went to clean them, accidently ripped some chunks off plastidip.
So repsprayed the wheels, and now added 1 coat of clear. Comes up shiny and easier to clean smile.gif

Also now planning a photoshoot so stay tuned

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 27, 2016 - 10:47 PM

Photoshoot pictures are up smile.gif

Posted by: Box Mar 27, 2016 - 10:54 PM

Such a perverse amount of red.

Posted by: cheela Mar 28, 2016 - 8:41 AM

you made box miss his red celica. biggrin.gif

photos look great by the way!

Posted by: RoadRage Apr 8, 2016 - 6:54 AM

Well, drove up to Sydney in friends car to tow back a 1942 Jeep that his dad bought to restore, and while on the way back stopped in Canberra to pick up a bra for 205. Unsure why I bought it but since my last trip to Sydney in my car, my front bumper ended up with a lot of bits of damage, and since I have 205 front end incoming, thought why not? maybe put it on for long trips to protect the bumper a bit.
Tried it on for lols

And a few days ago helped a friend pick up some wheels and the guy had an aluminium radiator which I bought for cheap, but its for a 5th gen, so needs a little bit of work to fit, but will be doing it soon smile.gif

Tried on the wheels for lols.. again,
dat poke

keep in mind the 25mm spacers

now for some crappy pics, bored on a friday afternoon, decided to put in the TWM short shifter that was salvaged from Timmyface's old car

pulled everything out and found these littered under the shifter .. strange haha

comparison of the two

the inside was actually really disgusting, so cleaned it up

Before (without knob)

After

Pretty happy with it, shifting feels really nice just need to tidy up the shifter boot and have already ordered a new knob, just waiting for it to arrive
--

In other news, my CV axle seems gone so will be replacing it on the weekend

Posted by: Box Apr 8, 2016 - 12:16 PM

I hate bras, especially on cars. Anyhow, wooo short shifter!

Posted by: RoadRage Apr 9, 2016 - 6:29 AM

I am not fond either, but i somehow keep finding myself on 500km road trips, and my bumper has deteriorated to a poor condition, so maybe on the longer trips I find myself on, have the bra on for the Gt Four front

Also!!
An interesting sneek peak coming up tomorrow! tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage May 3, 2016 - 11:37 AM

Well that sneak peak never happened haha

I managed to get my hands on a turbo kit for cheap.. but after looking into laws to actually get it legal and realizing it wasn't feasible to do, I sold the kit on

In other news, my friend that lives with me has a Mitsubishi Magna (aka Diamante in the States) and I spotted a cheap Magna with a VR-X kit on it and decided to pick it up and take back to the garage, took the kit off to put on his car, then decided to part it out to cover funds, as it was pretty much near the end of its life. So yeah basically been busy with that

The Magna came with wheel flares, but them on my car as a joke for test fit haha

But I have had time to get some Celica sills smile.gif

and besides that, just been taking some photos, loving the white wheels look tongue.gif

Not much of an update at the moment, but future plans include tidying up some of the interior and hopefully bring the second Celica out of storage and give it some love
Stay tuned biggrin.gif

Posted by: Box May 3, 2016 - 12:45 PM

You can't just give us a picture of a turbo kit and be like, "Lol nope nevermind." redface.gif

Posted by: RoadRage May 26, 2016 - 11:58 PM

Ha yeah I basically Nope'd myself, should have done more research, BUT I sold the kit for more than I bought it for and have started a funds jar for a new engine

In others news, to give some sort of update.. There is a big Toyota meet coming up in over 2 weeks and I started a list of things to install/fix up before the meet,
Hopefully all will be crossed off in time

- Install rear visor
- Fix rear splitters
- Fix front rhino lip
- Boot re-design
- Service
- Galaxy interior
- Red door cards

Vague descriptions laugh.gif, stay tuned

Also who said Celicas are impractical?

Posted by: cheela May 27, 2016 - 7:48 AM

haha nice! all that WITH the rear strut bar still in. good job. smile.gif

Posted by: Box May 27, 2016 - 1:49 PM

I used mine to carry synths and a giant combo amp all the time, liftbacks are the best thing ever. Look good and practical, provided you're not carrying four people all the time anyway. tongue.gif

Posted by: PegGTS May 27, 2016 - 2:54 PM

I should have taken a picture when I got my wheels and tires...fit 4 wheels with tires plus 4 more tires in my car tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Jun 6, 2016 - 9:10 AM

Well it has been over one week and have yet to do anything on my to do list....
I think it might be a bit of a rush to get everything done on time tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Jun 10, 2016 - 12:12 AM

I actually started!
Last night i gave the garage a superclean and set out all the things needed while i proceed to live in the garage for the next 3 days

Started ripping out interior chucks, door cards for re-wiring and interior pieces for painting

Fished a wire through to use for the ghost lights, and started taking the plastifdip off the interior pieces.. that took forever, but eventually it was done!

That was it for last night, this morning got up and went out shopping to pick up some supplies,
Came back home and started on a service aswell cleaning up the front lip
The Rhino lip has ripped off and the splitters have a huge amount of stone chips, will be repainting them when i replace front bumpers but for now just did a little touch up job

Now this part was inspired by a user on here: PegGTS, picked up some laminate floor boards to use as a new boot floor

Thanks to his help and advice on how he did it, put them together and glued a piece of MDF to the back of it, letting it try and will trace and cut out either later today or possibly tomorrow

With the door cards off, the lining was looking poor, so swapped it out for the red ones I had laying around.. Too much red now Box? laugh.gif

Also some parts arrived! Sadly don't think these will be on before my timeline, will be done another weekend

Checklist:
- Install rear visor
- Fix rear splitters
- Fix front rhino lip
- Boot re-design
- Service
- Galaxy interior
- Red door cards

More to come smile.gif

Ha nope, nothing to do with lights, i dont even know how the 'galaxy' will come out, but still gonna give it a shot! thats up next! or visor..

FOR NOW...
The wood has been carved out and after much effort of trying to make it fit, ITS IN!! biggrin.gif

A rough mock up of how it should sit with the sub and strut bar..

still needs refinement but I think its good enough for now!

Checklist:
- Install rear visor

Onto the interior!!

I know smile.gif

That trunk looks familiar somehow...

Posted by: RoadRage Jun 12, 2016 - 8:06 AM

I can't believe I'm actually on track haha i thought i wouldn't get half of these things done

THE GRAND REVEAL - of the so called 'galaxy' interior

My interior pieces have been through carbon fibre and brushed aluminium, which the cheap wrap bubbled under the Australian sun, and the grey Plastidip wasn't doing it for me anymore
Browsing Facebook one day, I saw one guy advertising doing the underside of bonnets in this 'galaxy' paint, that I found pretty cool and I messaged him if he would do my interior pieces.. He never replied
So i thought screw him and try it myself, so here goes

With everything out, did a coat of black then small patches of different purples and blues

Played around with it till i found a mix of colours that I liked, then sprayed some white on my finger and flicked it.. The final turnout out

And installed!

Only have night time photos at the moment, will get photos of everything with a better camera and with better lighting,
But here it is! Its not quite fitting with all the red on the interior but i really like it! tongue.gif

Moving on
I honestly have no idea why I installed these 'ghost lights', but I had them so why not haha, put them in the door cards with a switch to turn on and off
A bit rice I know thats why i put the option to turn them off tongue.gif

After that I went to bed and then the entire day I went out with my mum and girlfriend to a soup festival
Got to eat some soup and pet a baby goat so can't complain

Now finally home again, its back to work!

Checklist:
- Install rear visor
- Fix rear splitters
- Fix front rhino lip
- Boot re-design
- Service

- Galaxy interior
- Red door cards

Visors up next!

Posted by: Box Jun 12, 2016 - 1:44 PM

Tee hee, baby goat. I mean... Interesting process there, could use glow in the dark paint for the stars. Now you have to undo all the red so it goes together. tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Jul 15, 2016 - 8:53 AM

Undo all the red?! Never laugh.gif
A bit slack with the update, but.... I did manage to complete everything on time for the meet smile.gif

The Prep:
The visor had a crummy Tom's sticker that was a total pain to remove so it was suggested to get some headlight lens remover to clear up the scratches, and surprise! It worked

It still left a mark in the visor so to try and cover that up, I printed a TRD sticker
Getting late late into the night (its actually almost sunrise) Feeling like I lost all sense of sanity I managed to attach the visor to the car and wait for the Sika to dry

Also finished up tidying up the boot, red door cards and fix rear splitters, but one side feel down again a few hours later anyway mad.gif

Also got a better shot of the 'Galaxy' interior in the morning before the meet tongue.gif

The Meet
With everything actually tidy for the meet (and squezzing in time to wash the car.. badly) It was a blast!

We were allowed to go on the track for a few laps and one of the Photographers got a nice shot of the Celica

Celica No 2
Now having space in my garage, it was time to bring the ugly duckling celica over from where it was left outside in the front garden
..Looking a bit worse than before haha

The two celicas finally reunited

Now to find some time to work on both of them!

Other Stuff
Went for a drive up to the snow again, while visiting mum before leaving, I took this photo, which I thought was neat

Since it was the first proper snowfall of the year, there was actually a line to get up the mountain

But once though, built a snow man and found a nice spot to park in tongue.gif

In other news, PegGTS was nice enough to send me his ST204 vanity plate as a present

aaaand cats still like my car thumbsup.gif

The Future
For now, I have been working on the 2nd Celica getting that ready to go back on the road so it can go to a good home, while mine still has the strut mounts and camber bolts, aswell as some new bushes to be installed soon.
Thanks for reading. Stay tuned biggrin.gif

Sure you have enough air fresheners? tongue.gif Also your cat needs a top hat.

Posted by: RoadRage Aug 29, 2016 - 9:26 AM

May have gone overboard on the fresheners, haha
I'll let you know I've significantly reduced the amount

Have some small updates but nothing major, and will post some photos at a later date,
But for now enjoy this rolling shot of the last cruise I went on tongue.gif

I do not remember, I first enquired to Paul (PegGTS) about it, since he made one, and he forwarded me your thread from 2008, so thank you for the original idea smile.gif
Also in case if you're wondering, the rear lip piece is called Rhino Lip that i got off eBay

At first I thought it was a photoshop, then I was like nope those are all different and it'd be such a pain to photoshop something this realistic. Therefore the only explanation is...

Posted by: RoadRage Oct 3, 2016 - 5:45 AM

How many? Not enough! If i line them up you can see the colour pallet of how Red fades over time tongue.gif

Srsly though, the panels are no good on both cars so I can't even use them!

True...although my old Celica is up on stands again so I think I'm better off right now tongue.gif

Posted by: RoadRage Oct 5, 2016 - 11:34 PM

To fill in everyone quickly before the new celica:

I got a fart cannon from a Nissan
A detailing business in front of Uni was getting demolished, and they had a celica as their sign, I got dared to ask if they would give me sign, and they did surprisingly, so that lives in the garage
I changed my cluster colour from black to white
I went on a cruise

now that we are up to date:
A 3sgte swapped regular celica came up for sale 2,500 km away for super cheap and after some thought decided to buy it and have it delivered,
Car is pretty rough from sitting for a while and non-running at the moment (apparently fuel pump dead)

Now the question is.. do i just pull it out straight away and give it a clean or swap out the fuel pump on this car and see if i can get started and see what if it runs properly, then proceed to pull the engine out.

Either way with how laws work here in Australia, i want to return it to the stock airbox and pipe so if anyone has one for sale please hit me up smile.gif

Here are some more photos, sold the bonnet already to get some of the funds back and then gave it a clean on the inside just to keep it tidy

But for now! going to give the guards a good buff and swap them out with the other-other celica and get that one ready to sell!

Posted by: Box Oct 5, 2016 - 11:51 PM

Hmmm, part of me says get it running in the car it's in provided it doesn't incur additional cost that'd be wasted. Then you know if the engine is ok before going through the trouble of swapping and/or refreshing it to only find out it needs a complete rebuild.

hmm yeah thats what i'm thinking.. The seller sent me proof it started with starter fluid and send a compression test.. and came with a replacement walbro fuel pump

Posted by: Box Oct 6, 2016 - 12:18 AM

Sounds promising then, hopefully everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Posted by: jordisonjr Oct 6, 2016 - 8:50 AM

I would get it running in the car first. If you swap it and it doesn't start, then you don't know if it was an existing issue, or a mistake you made during the swap.
You never said anything about this having Tien coilovers!!

Posted by: RoadRage Oct 10, 2016 - 8:47 AM

well old poopy pump is out, going to empty fuel tank and put fresh fuel in, and drain engine fluids and hopefully have a go at starting it by the weekend!

Posted by: Box Oct 10, 2016 - 2:20 PM

Ewww, how did that get so nasty. I guess he wasn't kidding when he said it needed a new pump, so if anything it's a good sign I guess.

Posted by: RoadRage Mar 14, 2017 - 8:57 PM

Long time no update.. will write up a proper update sometime in the future, but replacing the fuel pump did not fix the issue, and by this point I started to have a girlfriend that was annoyed by me taking up both garage spaces and the driveway with 3 cars, so I just took the engine and good bits out and sent the car to a scrapyard, whereas the other Celica I cleaned up and sold,
actually felt good to park my own car in the garage again haha.

Since then stuff has happened, i kept hitting my splitters on kerbs and one fell off and was sort of hanging there, here is one of my most recent photos
I've just been driving to work and uni and enjoying some mountain runs in the weekend, and looking to give it some love again soon, especially fixing that floppy splitter.
