Hey guys for those of you who dont kno me, my names Cameron. As some of you may kno this past march i was deciding on whether to buy and do a Beams swap or a 3rd GEN 3sgte swap. well when buying a set of sideskirts off of Dustin and Stef, i got the privelage of driving both there Beams swap and Dustins 3rd Gen swap. the Beams a very fun car and altho i honestly wasnt used to the power the 3rd gen put out, it was clear to me for the same money i could have a fast and fun 3rd gen.

Sooo... i talked to my friend Manny and asked who to go to for a 3rd gen set and he sent me to Jim and went from there. i actually recieved my motor the same day as Manny did, (since we live 20min from each other, his swap just went a lil faster then mines to complete since ive been going paycheck to paycheck since ive bought the motor to finish everything lol)

so this is what i got from jim and my progress since getting it. (Alot of the pics were just refrence pics for myself as i was going along so sorry of some of the pics r kinda stupid lol)

when it came off the truck..

i didnt buy the set with the TMIC so this is what i really got after Jim took the TM off lol

these are all cellphone pics so srry if quality isnt the best at times

last time the timing belt was done lol reads February 28, 2002 according to vince. and its like roughly 37k miles

then i started to take things apart to clean the motor up a bit and start refreshing it.. i missed out on some pics here and there but here is what i got

took the manifold off and took a page out of Mannys build and shaved the manifold a bit.. didnt take pics while i was doing it tho

after i sanded and clean the manifold b4 paint

Throttle body b4 cleaned and painted

manifold b4 clear coated.. forgot to take a pic when it was finished..

Preparing valve cover

after clear coat

then disaster... as i was taking the AWD tranny off i cracked my upper oil pan just under the clutch dust cover.. (this is my first swap... and ya, i made a mistake lol)

thats next on my list of things to do lol .. its not that bad of a fix tho honestly, it can b fixed with the pan on the motor which is what i will b doing.

new berk 3in fully loaded DP

and as she sits now biggrin.gif

also some other part info..

Mannys old FMIC from his 5FSTE which i will be using for my FM set up
pics upside down lol

resurfaced flywheel

and as for the rest, my water pump should come in tomorrow so i can do my T-belt and pump, IC piping is on its way (2.5in) .. i also have a 3in electric cut out i will be using, a HKS SSQV black BOV, Devils own WI, and a prosport premium boost gauage..

last thing on the list is Tweaks stage 4 6 puck sprung comp clutch (keeping my s54 tranny). and 3" piping for my b-pipe.

the swap should happen towards the end of this month, hopefully in a few weeks or so.

comments and questions if any biggrin.gif

Lucky...I've only seen like 5 other 6gcs period...let alone 3s swaps. My celi will be the first 6gc 3s swap I've seen. I mean of course I've seen 3s's in Mr2's and other alltracs/GT FOURs (including mine) but as far as 6gcs go, no love in the NW. frown.gif

little update. water pump and timing belt is just about done, just need to put the tension peice back in place, then bundle it back up, throw the alternator and a/c pump back on and will be a few steps closer to the ultimate goal!

Posted by: Ted95 Nov 15, 2010 - 11:38 AM

alrighttt so heres whats going on with the swap. the clutch came friday, but no one was home to recieve it there for it is supposed to come today, hopefully.

i finished fixing the crack in the oil pan, i used JB weld and im making a brace for the back side of the pan and will provide support for the crack when i bolt the tranny up.

so this week im going to put the flywheel and clutch on and get some oil and a filter and i think.. i think ill be ready to start the swap, gotta make a set date with some people so we can start the swap. a few weeks we will get this show on the roaddd, cant wait!

Posted by: Ted95 Nov 16, 2010 - 12:40 AM

so today my clutch came in from Tweak, verrry excited for that! tomorrow im going to go out to the garage and make some plugs for some of the lines that i have open and do another recheck of the motor. should be swapping very soon.

but today i have some pics of some parts i have and that are goin on the car biggrin.gif

first Tweaks Stage 4 Competition Clutch

i ordered 2 IC piping kits from ebay

Then i ordered some 3inch 304 stainless piping from Jegs

two 45* bends

and one 4' 3inch 304 stainless pipe

i also picked up a 3in electric cutout off of a friend and 3in flexpipe that i will cut off his old dp setup (this was on a Spec'V that he turbo'd

i got a great deal on my Devils Own kit off of a member on the site brand new still in the box!

my HKS SSQV BOV

and my ProSport Premium Boost gauage

its getting really close and i cant wait!

hey guys, havent updated in a bit, waiting on founds to come in esp after the holidays. but heres a lil update..

i ordered some hood struts, most likely to make it look a littlebetter. also modded the 2nd gen o2 sensor i picked up from Twosrus and bolted her up and plugged her in. that awful crack i made lol well i finally did the final touches to it to make it cleaner and bought some bolts for the saftey bracket i will make up support the back side upper oil pan incase (god forbid) it ever cracked again.

im also in the process of ordering and finding parts to convert my coupe from ABS to non-ABS to make room for my Devils Own water/meth injection kit. (plus the ABS didnt work anyway lol)

i also ordered a couple exhaust flanges for my b-pipe, just need one more, prob order them tomorrow after i get my check.

oh, and i have just about everything i need for my battery relocation kit. the big push will be coming soon i hope. its been a little wait but its going to be worth it to get everything done right the first time.

ill try and get some pics tomorrow of some of the stuff.

Go with a good set of blanks, Endless or Project Mu pads tongue.gif (or some hawks will do), some SS lines, and maybe Motul racing brake fluid Dot 4. I'm not sure how beneficial it will be to run a Dot 4 fluid on the 6GC though, but wouldn't hurt I would assume.

Slotted rotors are good if you don't mind shortening the life of your pads a bit. Slotted rotors are designed to slice some of the glazing that happens on the pads from braking, so it'll cut down the life of your pads a bit.

Posted by: Ted95 Mar 8, 2011 - 12:07 PM

look what came in the mail!

my non-abs lines and hardware

ordering the master this week

also found a set of brand new OEM front and rear floor matts, i was soo pumped because i needed these badd

no its part of the upper oil pan. i can get another upper oil pan but i really dont want to rip the bottom end off the motor.

but i did fix it up good with some JB-weld and sanded it smooth, (it looks better now then in the pic there) and im making a bracket for the back side of the peice and will be held on to the tranny bolts when attached.

and thanks, its been alot of fun gettin it this far. its gettin close biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ted95 Mar 31, 2011 - 9:16 AM

my poly mount inserts came in the yesterday! here are some pics

now i have a question with these two.. if you look at the pics above you will notice the patterns are the same which makes sense to have 2 of each, but are these two supposed to have different thickness? ones thicker then the other, just want to make sure.

i also scheduled a date to do the swap, as of right now, it looks like we are going to be pullin the 5s out on May 7-8 (first weekend) and get the bay preped and painted during the week, and put the 3s in the following weekend, May 14-15th, and send it out that monday to do the IC piping and b-pipe. im pumped to say the least! biggrin.gif

Cam, If you're looking for upgraded rotors, go with Brembo. Especially if you wanna go cross drilled/slotted. Brembo treats their rotors to help prevent cracking from the intense heat. Some of the other cheaper brands have issues with spider cracks after a few good heat cycles.

lol well i havent chose anything yet because i dont have any momey right now for it at the moment. my regular brakes and rotors will do fine for now, i really dont plan on mashing the car right away once swapped, im going to work out w.e bugs that might come along as well as getting ready to repaint again shortly. things have been hectic lately with school, work, baseball, the girlfriend and life itself lol. been tryin my best to get online and research brake kits and such but its been hard. im just glad i have everything i need already for the motor swap and dont have to worry about that, just waiting for friday to come!

Posted by: easternpiro1 May 3, 2011 - 11:26 AM

good luck!!

Posted by: Ted95 May 7, 2011 - 12:45 AM

Day 1 of project 3s down! got alot of things done today thanks to a big help from dustin and stef, thanks guys.
so we got the motor pulled, tranny pulled, parts to buy and a list of hw to do tomorrow lol tomorrows gunna be a busy day biggrin.gif

pics tomorrow..

Posted by: Johnnyny May 7, 2011 - 4:12 AM

mucho pics please!

Posted by: Ted95 May 7, 2011 - 9:35 AM

kk so i didnt get a whole lot of pics of the whole process of pulling the motor because, well we are just digging into the thing tryin to get it out lol, but here is waht i have.

me and my dad takin the nose off

pulled the radiator and fans out as well as the battery and intake

cruise control out and started takin apart the harness, (didnt get alot of pic of this, gunna try and go back today and snap some shots)

getting ready to pull the old 5s out, so exciting lol

Chain Fall, ya my old mans kinda old school lol this is wat we used to pull the motor, D and stef found it interesting

money shot!

Dustin felt the need to add his own opinion lmao

so because the Chain fall doesnt move, we had to put the wheels and stuff back on and roll the car out and then place the motor down, thats the only down side.

ohh yeaaaa!

and the engine bay

it was a long first day but we got a good amount done. Dustin was in aw with the amount of tools my dad had which made this removal alot easier and quicker.
today i gotta make a run to autozone and get a few things and gunna start back on the abs removal and converting some more thigns to the 3s. pics later tonight!

Posted by: Ted95 May 7, 2011 - 8:59 PM

alright so today i got basically everything done that i wanted to get done.
removed the abs, cleaned the bay and tranny, installed flywheel and clutch on the 3s, and converted somethings over from the 5s to the 3s

first i cleaned up the side of the motor and the flywheel b4 i installed it since its been sitting in the garage for a lil while ( a year ) lol

lock tite on the flywheel bolts

clutch

installed

abs removed

so now i have some questions, what do i do with the passenger side line that runs off the abs and into the passengers side wheel well?

do i remove this totally or do i have to reroute it?

also what do i do with the abs wiring harness? im guessing thats what this is considering it was connected to the abs lol

and these are my non abs parts

tomorrow i hope to go out and do some shaving of some holes and start sanding the bay

all well, take me 5 min to redue it lol

Posted by: Ted95 May 8, 2011 - 7:37 PM

well today i didnt get as much done as i wanted too after waking up to the news of my grandmother passin early this morning.
however i did remove the a/c lines and cleaned them up and started shortening the washer fluid neck. i also painted my oem strut bar as well, now its time to do hw all night, finals and such are coming up fml.

tomorrows plans (other then studying faack) is to hopefully paint the tranny after class and continue work on the bay.

Posted by: Ted95 May 14, 2011 - 11:02 PM

ok so alot has happened since my last post. got alot done the past two days with some big help from my dad while i was at work. dustin came by today and stef when she came by after work and we made some good progress

first off a big thanks to Dustin for helping me and guiding me in the right direction with this swap, because going into this i had very little experience and hes helped me a ton through out this experience as well as Stef, thanks guys. and a big thanks to my dad for a great job on the engine bay while i was stuckk at work all night. but dont be fooled, this is my swap and i put alot of work into this myself lol. heres the pics of the progress

a/c lines removed to get painted

washer fluid tank being modded

to look like this

then i started taping off holes to fill and things to patch up as well as sanding the bay

the passenger side motor mount had a stripped bolt that wouldnt come out, i was unable to take pics of this process but this was how it started

what we did was cut a door in the chassis and reweld a new nut to the chassis, find a bolt to fit and close and clean it back up

then i had to patch up some rot holes that basically holds the front end to the car lol

small patch on the other side

the rest of the bay

all masked up ready for paint

shaved up a bit

unmasked

Posted by: Ted95 May 14, 2011 - 11:15 PM

post was gettin long wanted to break it up..

heres todays progress

installed non abs

boost guage installed

completed the harness today, first we had to borrow some wires and pins from the old 5s
didnt get alot of pics of this process altho i wish i did but i was busy soldering lol i had fun with that smile.gif

so lets hope i say this right lol.. we had to by-pass the fuel pump relay since my harness didnt come with the proper pump relay, as well as by pass the intercooler pump since im using a FMIC and didnt want to throw a code 54. it only took us, 2 resistors, and 3 wires as well as twisting a soldering a few wires together.. right D? lol

regardless, im soo happy with how everythigns coming along right now. im really excited with how the enginae bay came out. i have a few more thigns to do this week as well as study for finals for this week, FML. enjoy!

i also started the battery relocation as well by running the wire from the rear to the front, ill try and get some pics this week.

so this week im pretty busy with finals for school and work and i probably wont be able to go out to the garage til next week, but i did manage to paint the tranny yesterday and a few odds and ends.

well im not 100% sure how everyone else did there but this is how i did mines. i took the whole nozzel out and removed the upper peice with the cap. i then cut the nozzle enough where i can put it in the tank and have the upper cap peice stick out. i had to lower the tank off the car to properly put the nozzle back in, but i also have my fenders off so it was alot easier lol. i also painted it black too, havent taken any pics yet.

ill get pics this week, i just got my wisdom teeth pulled today and i dropped my phone (which i use to take pics) in a puddle yesterday and wont get the new one til monday lol. pics next week of my progress.

kk time for some questions lol.. idk what these things are or connect to..

this i thnk my dad took off the tranny while painting it but i have no idea where it goes or what it is.. lol

also have a couple plugs and a few hoses

would these connect to the TMIC? im not running one so i can take them off right?
are they going to piss everywhere at first start up??

where does this guy go to? lol

and finally him.. please and thank you lol

still a good amount to be done, im workin alot this weekend but hopin to get it started up tomorrow! idk if it will be ready for the CSP meet since i still need the IC piping done and bpipe but we will see, ill still be there either way

thanks man its been along time coming. and no its been done b4 in a coupe, people prefer hatches tho.

Posted by: presure2 Jun 4, 2011 - 10:11 AM

the bracket gets thrown away.

the large hose normally would connect to your intake (its for the IAC valve), if you did like i did and stuck a filter on the tube (which is what it looks like from the pics, you can remove that hose.
the little one normally connects the BPV. the other end of the hardline should have a hose connected to the intake manifold. you can use it as a vac source for the BOV, or cap it at the intake manifold and remove the whole thing. (you still need a vac source for the BOV tho)
i explained the blue plug to you over on facebook, the other one i cant really make out too well, is the starter connected? maybe the signal plug for it?
getting close to firing it up man!! looking good too!

do you have the throttle cable bracket installed? i noticed its not in the pics.

soo today..sigh...i went out to the garage after work and played around with conections and grounds, and still.. nothing.. im pretty sure im not gettin enough power to my starter bc when i FIRST go to start up the car for the first time of the day, the starter ingages and then nothing... when i turn the key that fans turns on, the fuel pump is deffinately on and i have power to everything... but nada frown.gif

ive done everything i could and can think of in regards to electrical and w.e ever ways there is to get this swap running lol ive been learning as im goin with this swap but i reached a tough problem that i cant figure out.

all the battery lugs are tight and all the connectors are connected as far as i kno.. any advice would be appriciated.

maybe check all of your grounds?

I had a problem like that when I rebuilt the head on my supra and accidentally connected the engine ground to the + on the starter which gave a similar diagnosis, after reconnecting it to the intake manifold where it should have been, it cranked up fine.

Maybe, I kno m,y battery ground is good bc I took a grinder to the chassis and seat bracket down to bare metal, I'm going to have to recheck the grouinds that connect to my strut towers, I checked them b4 but ill do it again..

But even then, I swapped batterys yesterday to see if my battery was just low while havin the charger on it and still nothing. I even took the charger and connected it to the positive lug up front (bc my battery is now in the trunk) and grounded the charger in the bay and nothing lol ... ill look at it again tonight after work and see what happens

make sure the ignitor has a solid ground connetion as well thru the bracket to the firewall as well..although, IIRC if it was that, it would crank over.
im pretty sure i have a couple spare starters in the garage, but i dont think that a bad starter is your issue.

ya i dont think its the ignitor or a "bad" starter either.. the starter was perfectly fine b4 i started the swap and i have power to everything but the starter it seems like. everything is tight tho so i dont get it .. could it be my clutch start switch, well pin? i looked at the pin today and it seem okay. im just not gettin enough juice to the starter lol .. ive done everything i could so far, i need another set of eyes to take a look see if i missed anything. Dustin is supposed to come by tomorrow so hopefully we can figure out whats goin on with this bad larry.

ya i checked it yesterday and seemed ok. im going to unplug it today and peel back the tape and stuff and recheck the wires to make sure they didnt come apart from when i plugged it in.. i dont think thats what it is but it could be, maybe its barely touching and thats why it ingages but then doesnt turn it over lol.. we will see.

haha wellll today was a big day to say the least! today after a year of and a half of preparing, i finally got to start up my 3rd Gen 3sgte! biggrin.gif

this after noon Dustin and Stef came by the garage and helped with the car bc i could not figure out why i couldnt start my car. i knew there was somethin stupid but i just couldnt figure it out and everytime i turned the key to start it i got nothing, i tried and tried but got nothing frown.gif

so heres the good part.. Dustin and Stef happened to come by the garage while i was down the street at the store. soo this first thing Dustin did when he got there was look at the quick and said "lets hear what it sounds like" which must be a secret ancient celica password bc he then jumped in the car, turned the key it started it up! did it was seconds b4 i pulled in the driveway and shut it off before i heard it. bowdown.gif

i then walk in the garage he said hey start it up, aand nothing... mad.gif lol Dustin was suprised as well as Stef and my dad.

anyways, we found out that the starter was no good and i had a bad ground.
i ended up using the starter from there awesome Rav4 wink.gif so we slapped it on and found a bad ground that started to smoke.
then we made a new and stronger ground wire and BAM shes running.

i called up Manny and asked if he had any starters around and he did so i ran up there later on and picked up a starter. i put on the new starter and bam starts up.

im VERY excited that its in the car and running, been a long time coming and a HUGE learning experience during this whole swap and happy because of it. biggrin.gif

ill get some pics up tomorrow, was to caught up with the car and forgot to take some pics lol tongue.gif
BIG thanks to my friends Dustin and Stef for giving me a hand during this swap. i couldnt have done it with out you guys, thank you. smile.gif

couple quick pics as i walked out..

So first off I wanted to say I had a great time at the CSP meet today, def a good time.
Here are some pics of the car over the past few days, been really busy haven’t been able to take all the pics I wanted to as ive gone along with it but heres what I got 

This is what I had as I was just trying to get it connected so I can start it up lol

Then started tightening up a bit

I painted the white plastic cover for the relay harness black to hide it a bit and unclipped the yellow loom and tucked it to the side, just to make it look neat, as well as cut the washer fluid neck and paint that black as well.

Strut bar back on

Moved some plugs around to make the wires look a little more neat

Motor pics

also slapped on the freshly painted GTS wheels in the back and put some junk steelies on the front so i dont smoke the GTS wheels on its first few drives .. or Manny for that matter wink.gif

So far things are going well, still need to button a couple things up between tomorrow and Monday, cars being shipped to Mannys Tuesday to have the bpipe done and do the IC piping as well, then she will be on the road VERY excited thumbsup.gif

so today i filled the tranny up with gear oil and drove it around the yard a little today.. i didnt go above like 2500rpms.. i just wanted to see how the clutch felt and to make sure it would actually drive lol.

so b4 work tomorrow and after work tomorrow, the plan is to put the fenders and hood back on b4 i ship the car out to Mannys place on Tuesday. the car is sooo close to being finished i cant wait!

Posted by: presure2 Jun 13, 2011 - 7:54 PM

Got a bit of practice on some stainless tonight, see ya and your beast tommorow!

Posted by: Ted95 Jun 13, 2011 - 11:26 PM

alrightt so tomorrow is the big day.. well actually today is the big day lol. the car is being towed to Mannys this afternoon while he is at work to get my b-pipe made up and intercooler piping!

going to finish up putting the fenders and hood on in the morning and give her a quick bath before it start heads out for a sleeper over at Mannys garage haha.

i loaded up the car today and razor bladed the windows because of some overspray and dust on the windows (my dad still does some work and stuff in the garage) which means i will have to spray the car again after the swap is done.

updates and pics as we go, Manny feel free to throw some pics up too on the thread of the piping wink.gif

looking good man. your getting closer. wish i was running. I just gotta finish hooking stuff up and get my rear mount. hopefully find one.

Posted by: presure2 Jun 14, 2011 - 10:08 PM

Car is here, few minor issues but nothing we can't work with I think.
Cam bought 3" stainless mandrel bends from jegs. They are thinner wall than what I normally use (.055 vs .065), so the pipe is a little loose in the 3" stainless vibrant flanges he got.
He got a good deal on a used 3" exhaust cutout from someone he knows, which turns out is not stainless, so I'm going to pick up some 309 filler rod to tig the mild to the stainless.
There is a 4" flex pipe attached to the cutout, cam was hoping we could use that, but I prefer a 6" flex section in the b-pipe, so he is gonna pick one up tommorow, and I'll start fabricating everything up tommorow.
I'm hoping to get started on the ic piping on Saturday. That is going to be all 2.5" aluminum, tig welded by yours truly!!

See ya tommorow cam!!

I just read through your entire thread. All I can say is wow. It looks like you are almost to the pot of gold. Your attention to details is rivalled by very few. You certainly put in the long hours of research and effort.

The car looks beautiful and the prep was inspiring. I cannot wait to see it finished.

I just realized that reading this made me realize that I should stop worrying about my car - it will get there. (I have so many other priorities than the 'trac that I have been seriously disheartened by the prospect of waiting several years to get it up to par) So thank you for your fortitude.

thanks man i really appriciate it. its been stressful trust me lol its been a long process but im happy ive took my time with the car and trying to get everything the way i want it. i wanted to do it right the first time so in order to do so you got to take your time and do the research and firgure out what u want in the end.

slapped the nose back on minus the front bumper because Manny needs it off to do my Front mount setup

i washed the car b4 i put the fenders and hood back on, you can see the difference lol

make a 2nd gen turbo inlet pipe after the afm and i would love you manny.

You make it look soo easy

Posted by: Ted95 Jun 22, 2011 - 9:10 AM

so theres been a couple little set backs including some personal things i needed to take care of, but for the swap i just needed to get another 180 bend to split for 2 90s and a reducer coupler which has all been ordered the other day and is on its way. updates and pics later tonight smile.gif

Posted by: presure2 Jun 26, 2011 - 7:44 AM

almost finished!
just waiting on one more bend to arrive, to finish the last peice of the cold pipe, now that i have some experience with those ebay piping kits, i know why people (the ones who weld them) complain about them.
the quality of the tubing is horrible.
pre-polished pipes suck to weld on, there is SO much contaimination ground into the pipes from the polishing process, and you can never really get it all out.
start welding, doing fine, and without warning, it all goes to crap as you pull out all the contaminates in the aluminum, and it kills the puddle.

a couple pics of the last section of the cold pipe, cam took the rest of the pipes and IC home so he could clean them up yesterday.

you can see the contaminates sitting on top of the bead in this pic:

hopfully the last peice will be in tommorow, and all i will have to do is weld up the last bend, and weld a couple of mounting tabs to support the tubes.

Posted by: Ted95 Jun 28, 2011 - 11:10 AM

lookin good Manny!

sorry for the lack of updates recently guys, been soooo busy with work, i work at a grocery store and it our "busy" time of the year getting ready for the 4th and such so i havent had time at all to update really..

so yesterday i went out to the garage to clean the intercooler and IC piping and dropped it off at his place b4 i went to work. im hoping the last friggen pipe comes in today so tomorrow we can hopefully wrap this thing up and call it a day and DRIVE my celi back home! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ted95 Jun 29, 2011 - 9:25 AM

alrightt guys, so yesterday just b4 i left for work, Eric, the UPS guy (we are on a first name basis since hes been delivering all my parts lol) came by to drop off the last bend needed for the IC setup. tonight i plan on going over to Mannys, finish up the piping, slap on the front bumper and drive it home biggrin.gif

wish me luck smile.gif

thanks man, there will def be some vids up as i go.

i supplied him with all the piping to do the job. i bought just ebay IC piping, (which i might replace later on down the road) and some 3" SS bends from Jegs and bought some flanges.

A few pics I snapped with the iPod before he left.

Posted by: Ted95 Jul 1, 2011 - 12:41 AM

Thanks Manny! it was a long wait, ( year and a half) but well worth it biggrin.gif

as you guys can see, the car is "done" lol and its fcukin kickasss! coupler slipped off the IC on the way home but slapped it back on tightened it and was back to Boooooosssstttttt!!!! hahaha, i still cant believe its done. the HKS ssqv BOV sounds GREATTT lol im pretty excited.

at full boost i hit what i assume is fuel cut at 80mph, i still need to cap off the OEM boost controller which eliminate that problem, right? lol

other then that theres a few odds and ends that i need to buttom up, however, with the 4th of July weekend on its way, im living at work alllllllllllllllllll weekend. FML, so i wont be able to play around with it until next week, pics as soooon as i get the chance!

And lastly.. a BIG thanks to my friends Dustin, Stef, and Manny for helping me along the way with this swap. you guys helped me out with all my questions and helped me find solutions when i needed them lol. you guys are great people and im happy and honored to have learned from you guys. you can research until your brain explodes, but getting in there and doing it yourself is the best way to learn, and i did just that and man does it feel aweome! thanks again guys!

well the stock controller is still plugged in sooo w.e stock boost is im guessing, i havent wired in my gauge yet lol im doing that this week bc i have no time this weekend because im basically living at work this weekend. but first, second, and i believe 3rd goes to redline but once i hit 80mph it cuts out and stops at 4k in either 3rd or 4th gear.

Posted by: Ted95 Jul 3, 2011 - 11:44 PM

so today after work i went out to cut and mod the bumper and slap it on.

i also plugged out the factory boost controller and put on an aftermarket controller, this solved my problem with the "cut"

alright so i finally had time to update my thread lol i went ghost for a little bit, been to busy driving my car.. and workin fml

so the car runs greattttt i fckin love boost, end of story. i just love how the car drives and pulls soo smooth and the BOV sounds meann lol turns lots of heads wink.gif
i love how the car drives just like the 5s around town with everday driving but then comes alive with just a little bit of throttle with out even getting on it, very nice thumbsup.gif

how ever i did have an issue..

i was being stupid with my car when i thought my clutch let go or my axel may have snapped or popped out so i got the car towed to a garage that just did a tranny seal on the same axel so i was hopin maybe somehow it popped out, im not sure, he checked the axels and said no they r fine your clutch let go. so i got the car towed back to my house until i had the time and money to get a new clutch and swap her in.

almost a week went by until i actually got to look at the car, Dustin and Stef happened to be down and gave me a hand with it and we figured out the axel came out so we tried to pop it back in and it just wouldnt go. we tried and tried but it would never snap, then we just took the axel and out and this is what we found..

you can see the splinds all fanned over

snapped the end of the axel shaft right off

what realy pissed me off was the fact that the guy said my axels are fine... does that look fine? we could pull the axel away from the tranny with our hands lol idk how he didnt notice it wanting to pull out.

made a call to Mike and picked up the spare tranny he had and did the tranny swap and put a new axel in and now it drives great. but i wont be doing that again lol. im in the search for heavy duty axels for the s54 and a e153 tranny, see what i find first, more likely the tranny bc i cant find axels.

quick pics of the car

yeeah.. i dont think so lol
im just gunna do a minor tune up and maybe put some stupid wheels on it idc its a beater

anyways about the TRD strut bar, works great!
it makes the car alot stiffer in the front and just wants to bite throughout first and second vs. spinning like it did before, spins a little still but not as much. the car vibrates a little more, but tolerable.

i am VERY happy with this purchase and the improvement it has made to my car.

Posted by: Ted95 Oct 5, 2011 - 8:54 PM

So ive done a couple small mods to the celi recently. I bought SpeedSource solid brass shifter bushings to replace my old stock rubber bushings. one of the best things i put in the car, made my shifting alot more smoother and precise.

this is what it comes with

i put them in after class and before work so i didnt have time to take pics as i was going but its pretty self explanitory, pop the old rubber ones out with a flat head screw driver, and slide in the brass bushings in its place. i had a hard time getting the upper bushing on tho. it seemed to be too big so i took some 40 grit then 80 grit and 220 grit in that order to sand down the bushing a little bit to make it fit. i tried to squeeze it in with vise grips but it wouldnt go at all. after sanding it down with 40,80, then 220 about 5 times of test fitting i finally got it to slip in (thats what she said) and is still snug so no issues of being lose at all.

i find them to be VERY effective as my shifting is quicker and alot smoother. hey for $30 bucks and about an hour of my time im more then happy with it. made my car feel alot better to drive as its shiftng was very stiff before and a pain at times.

also modded my bumper a few weeks back..

moch fit after cuttin the bars off

cant see it but i painted the part that i sanded down black where the bars were

and today i hit 225k biggrin.gif

....but those things are bad news. They remove the mechanical sympathy from your gear shifts...I have seen several gearboxes trashed because of those things. (and there was no shadow of doubt that they were the cause)

These are a far far better compromise and come highly recommended......they have a certain amount of "give", they wont corrode or wear down as fast.

hm, no kidding. well then looks like ill be ordering the poly ones instead ha. that does make perfect sense tho now thinking about it, thanks for the heads up.

and ya take your time with your swap if you can, i just went peice by peice unitl my parts pile was big enough to start the swap lol it took alot of paitence but was worth it. goodluck!

Posted by: presure2 Oct 7, 2011 - 6:04 PM

Yup, the guys on mr2oc are going to spyrical bearing equipped bushings, I actually installed a set on jims alltrac for him.
The poly ones will be an improvment over stock, but the spyrical style are the best cause they allow the arm to pivot as needed, but takes away all the slop. (the "bushing" is metal) to use them on an s54 they will need an extra spacer made for them, I had one made for Jim, it was 10$.
the car is looking great dude,I really like what you did with the bumper opening!

thats what Joey has on his mr2 right?
and thanks i think it makes the front look so much better, really brings out the IC

Yup, Joe has the same ones, he got them from mister3 on mr2oc.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I don't like the slop in the shifter at times.

One thing I might suggest (because this is why the bars were there), put some kinda metal re-enforcement on the inside underlip of the bumper. It will warp and sag over time and that will prevent it. Even if it's a thin piece of aluminum, it'll hold shape.

ya i have already had that in mind and have it planned out on how i want to do it. right after i put the bumper on and started it up i noticed it vibrating a little and knew something needed to be done.

so in my search for cleaner and tighter shifting i found this little number hear..

http://speed-source.net/?wpsc-product=toyotascion-clutch-pushrod

its a longer clutch push rod to help make the disengagement of a "heavy" clutch feel better and apparently a crisper shift. it is 1/4" longer then the stock rod, does anyone see anything wrong with this? would this in the long run screw up my clutch but maybe pulling it to far back, im not sure looking for input or if anyone has heard athing about them. in therory it seems like a nice little mod.

i came across these as well, spherical bearing "bushings"

http://www.deltav.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=2&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=5&vmcchk=1&Itemid=5

now it was said a spacer would need to be made, im assuming that the thickness of the end of the cable is thicker then the mr2s so a spacer would be needed to fill in the rest of the gap? like the bearing does fit all the way flush with the cable loop is that what its for, but that would disrupt the bearing from moving? im thinking the inner diameter would have to be large with a thin wall so the bearing can pivit as needed, thoughts?

or maybe this arent he right type lol still searchin..

So today my car is making a clunking noise on the passenger side and i can feel it through the floor, espically on the passenger side. im thinking it has somethin to do with the passenger side axel, more specifically the supporting colar bracket attatched to the back of the block.

when the wheel is turned all the way to the left (while turning out of a parking lot for example) i can hear a whinning scrapping like sound and ive never heard a bad wheel bearing before so i was thinkin that might be the problem. this has been the case for the past 2 days, but only when turned all the way.

but after work today when i left thats when i heard the clunking noise, almost like a bad motor mount knock only its more frequent, and considering i have poly mounts i dont think its that. plus i can feel the clunk through the floor, and seems like w.e it is is rubbing the axel a little bit because i can hear the axel rotating and scrapping somethin every so often ( i think..) its kind of hard to explain with out actually knowing what it is yet lol

im not bringin the car to school or work tomorrow so after work im goin to bring it out back in the garage and pop the wheels off and under plastics and see whats going on.

as for now, im stuck studying for this stupid exam.. update tomorrow

Posted by: Ted95 Oct 20, 2011 - 11:19 AM

so the wheel bearing is junk, jacked the car up today and the passenger side tire wiggles around, not much to good..
tonight im actually going to go check out a little Ford Ranger for a winter beater since my brother is gettin his license and going to take the neon. so if all goes well im going to get the truck and swap plates over and take the celi off the road for the winter a little earlier since i have some suspension work i want to get done.

things to order
-passenger side wheel bearing (picking up tomorrow)
-inner and outer tie rods
-twosrus st185 endlinks
-miata rear endlinks
-front and rear poly bushings

also while shes off the road this winter im going to go through the bottom of the car and repair all and any rot that might be under the car since its been a New England car its whole life.

Mike (mkernz) stopped by last week and me and him got the boost gauge wired up and cruised around to test it out

results, 13psi with the cut-out closed and 16psi with the cut-out open.
i turned it up to 14-17 now and wow does this thing scream lol

Posted by: presure2 Oct 20, 2011 - 8:23 PM

very addicting. im VERY glad i went with the 3sgte over the Beams. i love the Beams swap and may do one later on down the road but boost is soooo much fun!

i also need to add brake pads and 2 new tires to the list tongue.gif

Posted by: Ted95 Oct 25, 2011 - 6:42 PM

so i took the knuckle off the celi yesterday and dropped it off down the road to get the new wheel bearing pressed into the hub and this is what i found..

it seems like the bearing was grinding away at the shaft on the hub and now the outter race sits lose instead of being tight like it should. has anyone else had this happen to them before?
im going to order a new hub from toyota tomorrow unless anyone else sees another solution to this lol.. if its not one thing its another.. just read my sig kindasad.gif

once this is fixed im more then likely going to take it off the road and start saving up for the rest of the suspension maintence, which is why i just bought this tonight..

my new winter beater since my brother is going to take the neon for his first car, its a 96 ranger

thats what i figured, its the first time ive had to replace the bearing so i wasnt 100% sure. im pickin up a new hub tomorrow from toyota and going to get the bearing pressed in and put it back together at the house.

Posted by: Ted95 Nov 5, 2011 - 12:01 AM

Cars running good right now, no problems with the new hub and bearing. drivin the 3s during my first fall season is alot of fun, with that big IC suckin in all that cold air the thing comes to live quitr nicely to say the least wink.gif

i got a sticker for it today before i put it away for the winter, probably going to put the truck on the road sometime next week or so. i put to much time into this car that i dont wanna meet a snow bank even tho i kno the car can handle it. excited about the truck tho biggrin.gif

also took my gauge cluster for the first time today to pull out the abs bulb so i can pass my inspection ha. while i was in there i took the clear plastic cover off and cleaned it up a bit, came out pretty good.

havent updated in a while, been really busy with school and work havent had anytime to play with the car. car is off the road tho and in the garage for the winter.
im in the process of clearing out a space at my grandfathers barn to store it there since my dad is working out of the garage.

few weeks back i picked a parts car, 96 st limited edition. i bought the limited edition seats (only passenger and rears, someone took the drivers one already) the black carpet (mines tan) 2 post hatch spoiler, headlights, and a hood and gunna play around with the celi this winter and change it up a bit. ive been thinkin about just buying a single racing seat for the drivers side to offset the missing drivers seat to the set. if anyone has a limited edition seat they wanna part way let me kno!

ill post pics later,

have a happy thanksgiving guys!

some new pics, been workin on the celi here and there between work

new seats

relocated my cutout switch

modded the crash bar for better airflow.. more pics later

got my DO 2 quart tank in the mail

also recieved my poly sway bar bushings and st185 front endlinks

going to get spacers made up soon for my spherical shifter bearings

Thanks man, Manny did my piping for me, its a good route and flows well, no real sharp angles just smooth bends. i might have it re-done with better quality piping.

the Devils Own has had good reports in the past with these motors, but ill post up my results when its going.

been doing some work to the celi the past few days, want to get her on the road soon but theres work to be done!

first, my version of the Toms style cluster

installed with the new 7th gen steering wheel

started the Devils Own install, ran the lines from the trunk to the bay, the lines fit perfect in the pastic peice under the carpet

also mounted the tank in the trunk and made a bracket to go with it

i also installed a apexi turbo timer that i picked up cheap, plug and play.. more to come

i should have some pics up tomorrow of another project ive been workin on to go in the celi biggrin.gif

Alright so i finished my interior during this spring break like i wanted to today, came out great!

saturday i took out the tan head liner and painted it gray to help go with my refirbished Limited Edition seats that i painted with an interior paint.

Gray headliner

flash makes the liner look lighter then what it is, it looks darker in person

black rug before paint

rug painted and installed

cant find the before pics of the seats but this gives an idea how faded they were

seats after

what was left of the old setup lol i started to tear it down months ago

gutted

rug installed

rear seats

passenger

done biggrin.gif

im more then happy with the way this interior came out, it looks 10x better in person because the seats really pop after repainting the black trim after a good wash. the rug and headliner change the whole feel of the car from a drivers stand point, as well as the 7th gen wheel and jdm style cluster, i cant wait to driver her daily again!

What is your review of the water/Meth kit? I'm looking into this.

Posted by: Ted95 Apr 16, 2012 - 2:38 PM

i havent activated it yet, ive been waiting to buy the progressive controller for the Devils Own kit but i might just install the manual pressure switch for the mean time instead. i want the progressive controller because it allows for better and easier adjustments. there are many guys on the forum that have it installed with there 3s and have had good results with it, Dustin, Manny, Art, off the top of my head. the WRC's came with the water/meth kit installed in the manifold so if it worked for them it will work for the non WRC as well.

it just allows you to run higher boost safely by lowering the temperature int he combustion chamber by some 250* and gives you a 10-20% hp increase, thats what the specs say on the site, and i think theres a few dynos in the stickies with the meth kit installed on some cars. i think _Jim_ has one posted.

Posted by: Culpable04 Apr 17, 2012 - 7:38 AM

what size of nozzle did you go with ?

I went with a 500 cc or ~ 10 GPH nozzle.

I was lucky, I bought the pump, progressive controler and fittings all for 69 dollars biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ted95 Apr 17, 2012 - 7:32 PM

well the kit i bought off a member here unused in box came with the D03 and the D07 nozzles, 3GPH and 7GPH, but i wanted to bump up to 10 or 12ish lol.. how does the 10GPH nozzle work?

btw thats a stealll for 69 bucks lol i think i paid 140~

Posted by: Culpable04 Apr 17, 2012 - 9:54 PM

I haven't install it, because I'm waiting on my map clamp, unless you are planning to go pass 18 psi, the water injection will just be a bragging rights kind of thing, because the stock ECU and injectors are designed to run 18 psi all day with no issue.

but based on my calculations ( long ago lol ) 10 GPH is the optimum nozzle for 25 psi and 375 hp on a single nozzle setup for our engine / fuel injector size.

of course, I wont run 25 psi on my WRC turbo, but I'll tune for 21, and I'll be comfortable knowing that I have a 4 psi cushion in case something goes wrong. or if I later upgrade the turbo ( not likely ) I have some room for tuning.

I'm also working on getting my HKS F con running so I can truely get the WI and 21 psi full potential by tuning the fuel properly, but it will be a conservative tuning, with enough room for temperature variations and elevations.

from what I've seen an untune WI system on a celica yields aroung 10 whp, and safer temperatures, once tune I hope I get around 30 whp, but time will tell. none of my tuning will be too aggressive since I daily drive the car ( 90 miles round trip ) I want to keep it as reliable as it is right now, so no ball to the wall tuning to squeeze every single ponnie out of it lol.

this is exactly what im trying to do lol. im running 18psi now with the cutout open, 14-15psi with it closed. im waiting to get my map clamp as well, i want to be able to run 20psi safely with my cutout open. im going to get a mild tune as well, 21 psi would be nice.. this too is my DD so im not trying to go to crazy with it either, but still want to get what i can out of it without upgrading turbos and internals for now..

i thought about doing the dual nozzle setup but not really sure if it would be an over kill as im still running my stock turbo and not looking to upgrade anytime soon.
this was good info and gives me a better idea of how to dial in my setup. im looking to run 12s at the track, thats my goal for this summer.

Wow, this is one of the sickest swap threads I have read. I'm sitting here trying to do schoolwork and got stuck reading this thing through from the very beginning. Great job! The car turned out amazing, the engine bay looks amazing, the engine looks amazing. I'm starting my swap pretty soon (upcoming month) and like you this will be my first swap. This pumped me up more than anything! Got my shell, just searching for the engine at the moment but hoping to find one in the next couple weeks smile.gif.

P.S I'm way glad everything turned out as you hoped cuz you deserve it, thats some dedication and hard work right there!

Posted by: Culpable04 Apr 18, 2012 - 6:49 AM

going dual or quad nozzle is actually better. more reliable as you can aim each nozzle to a particular cylinder which would help ensure each cylinder gets a consistent amount of W/A mix, with a single nozzle you have to be more conservative on the tuning as there will be fluctuations on the amount of mist each cylinder will get depending on the location of the nozzle, spray pattern etc.

my nozzle is at the factory location ( WRC ) because I was being a fan boy at the time and did it " just like toyota " by the time I understood what the optimum setup was, the engine was dropped in and I didn't wanna take the manifold out to drill, tap, and install 4 nozzles. but if the engine comes out again, I may take the time to do that.

is your turbo WRC ? or a regular ceramic one ? if so, 20 psi daily may prove to be too much for hte ceramic fins.

Posted by: Ted95 Apr 18, 2012 - 7:15 AM

No mines the stock 3rd gen turbo non WRC. I'm going to install my nozzle(s) half way up the cold side of my IC piping. I wouldn't be boosting to 20psi daily, but I can see where it could cause potential damage to the turbo, but maybe the dual nozzle could be a better option? Im not trying to destroy my engine either lol.

I decided to put the nozzle half way up the piping because it will give the particals time to evaporate making the air more dense and colder. I would like to install it lower truthfully but I'm already running out of line and I'd rather it not go past my cupler in the middle.

Dumb question...you don't HAVE to tune for water Meth do you? I'd just like to run 20 Psi safely. Will the stock injectors be enough?

Posted by: Ted95 May 24, 2012 - 12:03 AM

yes a tune will be needed,

quote from a cobaltss forum..

" .. The devils own kit is great and I have it. However, meth itself does not give you power. It decreases your air intake temperatures as well as changes the octane slightly. This in turns helps suppress detination as well as allowing you to tune more aggressively to get the power gains. Also it reduces the heat soaking that also robs power. "

it answered my question about it too lol but the meth doesnt actually cool the temperatures, it adds water to a mixture reducing the overall temperatures

Posted by: SupraKid May 24, 2012 - 12:54 AM

meth=moar boost smile.gif

Posted by: bsamps4 May 25, 2012 - 9:47 AM

What are you tuning with Cam? Or are you just adjusting the water meth controller, and your boost controller, and letting the ecu take care of the fueling?

going to start getting friendly with a DA on the celi over the next few weeks, getting it prepped up for paint after i replace the hood.

quick, random, possibly dumb question.. but..

is it possible to leak oil from the dizzy? i know theres a little gear in there and im wondering if a seal might have let go. i have a small oil leak that i see coming from behind the motor. the headgasket is dry, the intake mani is tightened up and from when lookinh up at the back of the block from under the car i notice oil in the upper left area of the motor (such as on the hoses and such as well as the top of the head and near the fuel rail. i noticed the the motor is clean from the dizzy up and under the dizzy is damp and gunky and when i whip my finger under the dizzy i get black wet oil residue. dizzy is tight bit wasnt sure if maybe a gasket would be bad.. i know, that was a long quick question lol ill post a pic up next chance i get.

Posted by: bsamps4 May 30, 2012 - 7:52 AM

Yup, It is possible to have a leak from there. The seal for the distributor is really cheap. Don't have the part number on hand at the moment, but I may actually have an extra in my pile of 3sgte gaskets. Either way just run to Toyota, shouldn't cost more than 15 bucks.

good man, im not 100% sure thats where its coming from but its clean everywhere above it and its oily from the bottom of the dizzy down, either way the ring will be replaced.. and maybe even the VC gasket.

got some things done today on the celi, ordered2 new tires, i went with BFGs KDW2's and im dropping thw wheels off at the shop tomorrow.

made some progress on the ride today, got the holes welded up on the trunk and some spot welds to clean up some rust that was coming through =/

also found the oil leak.. as stupid as it was lol.. its coming from the bottom on the oild catch can, the oil seems to be leaking from the bottom of the hose the connects to the VC.. theres some oil on the VC surrounding the fitting off the cover. i felt and seen alot of oil on the smaller hose that runs to the back of the black and seen it was traced to the top of the VC.

im guessing this is because my hose coming off the catch can isnt connected to my intake. has anyone else have this issue? i heard it was ok to have it just vent out so would leaking be normal even coming from the top of the VC?

Hey Ted95 I have a quick question to you. I am changing my whole suspension bushings on my st205 and an aftermarket whiteline sway bar. Now my question concerns the Racing Beat end links. I noticed that few others to are installing these. We do not have any other aftermarket end links designed specifically for our celicas? I noticed these are for miatas. Do they work okay? did you test them? if yes is it a good mod and change them to these? Do you think should i install them too?and if yes which models specific? Thanks mate and great project keep up the good work wink.gif

yes the miata racing beat endlinks work great. there arent any after market ones on the market that i know of but the miata ones fit perfect and are adjustable.

cheap and easy to install.

ITS IN THE STICKIES!

DON'T KNOW the compatability i with n/a celica's vs the gtfour.

the ones that trdproven installed are much bigger than any other on the market.

that's tire size is huge. those rims come stock with 205/50 but yours are 1.1inches larger. Going for top speed racing huh, you can hit at 150mph for sure . still have stock speed cut on?

wink.gif thanks ill need to study the options so i make sure they fit on an st205

ya they are a little big lol. when i bought the wheels they came with 55s proxies that were brand new. as the summer went by my fronts became rather bald, idk why tongue.gif but the rears are mint. i kept the same size for the bfgs up front to keep and even look from front to rear, plus im only lowered on sportlines so the taller tire kinda hides some of the wheel gap that is still there lol.

havent updated in a while, have had a busy summer but heres some updates..

recently i have had some shifting issues so i replaced my clutch master and slave cylinder and still isnt working. ive eliminated every possible external variable and only thing left to do is to drop the tranny and take a peek inside. so i recently ordered and new Clutch Masters 6puck unsprung clutch as well as new cardone axles.

also relocated my boost controller a while back

picked up a nifty wideband as well, may look familiar to some

some pics of the bay

ya i know what you mean. i will probably peice together an e153 setup as time goes by, i know the clutch that im putting in now will hold and do just fine for a while as my Comp clutch didnt. after installing my Comp clutch the first time through i read else where a few months later about the problems people had with them. i should be good with my ClutchMasters. next big step for the celi would be the e153 tranny.. or a different project.. something with a 4 barrelll wink.gif

Should've painted the block and tranny a lighter color so you could spot leaks easily. But very nice build.
