6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ Timmyface's progression

Posted by: Timmyface Feb 3, 2011 - 6:51 AM

Thought about a progress thread for a while, but i should have started when i first got it, but i'll try my best to show most stuff anyway.

October 10, 2009. My 19th birthday. I woke up real bright and early, birthday morning, to drive 2 hours to sydney to look at a celica.
Horrible condition, and i was dissapointed. Young P platers car which wasnt looked after at all. they knew i was coming early that morning, car was filthy, tail light broke, sh*t everywhere in the car, you could tell its been mistreated.

The trek home was quite a sad one, i thought hey, a car for my birthday would have been sweet (even though i was paying haha).
Once home, stopped by another for sale which was advirtised on ebay, and picked her up.

Talked them down near $4000 off the price, so was a fair deal.

Heres the first pics i took.

200k km's on the clock, but previously owned by only 2 older lady drivers, so i'd say its never hit 100, smile.gif

The first mod i chose to do was to remove those horrid hubcaps, and get wheels and 15% Tint.
17" CSA race rims, 205/45r/17 Tyres.

At the same time i painted my calipers red. smile.gif

Around the same time as my wheels, i installed my sound system. I don't have a pic on here atm, but can get some if requested.

Pioneer 3100 Headunit, 2x 6.5" Kicker Splits, 350w 2ch Kicker amp, 800w Slimline Kicker 12" Sub. The stupid spare wheel required me to either get a slimline, or make a new floor or remove the tyre, so i went the slimline, its decent enough for my liking atm.

The next 'Mod' to my memory would be the Crystal clear side indicators, with silver bulbs.

Followed by wolfies clear front indicators, and a cheap Mesh grill.

Than through months of searching, looking for good deals, i found a set of JDM Tails.

Removed the inner orange lens.

A few months of saving, and contemplation of which suspension line i should go down, i finally chose a set of BC BR Racing Coilovers. 30 way adjustable damping, camber adjustable top mounts.

It sat like this for a while, untill my slow ebay addiction kicked in, and i picked up a universal rubber lip.

It didnt serve much purpose, nor did i try and cut it properly. It was a unique look, so i thought what the hell. When i took it off, there were scrape marks UNDERNEATH the lip, which was strange. Silly low cars.

Than next, came one of the best additions.... the 6GC Sticker! Lovin it.

Next came Projectors. Spent the day learning how to remove the front bumper for the first time, and wiring them up smile.gif

Whilst installing the projectors i picked up a SAAS pod filter and aluminium pipe. Pics upon request, bit of a qhetto setup though, haha.

This is how she sat for a few months.

I finnally got sick of the sucked in look in the wheels, and decided on some Spacers
JJR 20mm in the fronts, and 25mm in the back

Before

After

To make the spacers fit, i had to grind off say, 2mm off the studs, which i thought was an acceptable amount. First time with an angle grinder though..was an experience haha.
I DO scrape a little when taking corners too fast, or have a car full. The rears are only JUST touching, so i shall get them rolled soon.

For quite a while, i had liked the look of the euro splitters. One day i found a decent conditioned set, and got them shipped right away.
A week of them being in my possession, painted and installed.

A week later, my OEM sides arrived, also quickly followed by paint and installation smile.gif

And this is pretty much where it is currently at.

I have a set of rear SS-III splitters to be painted in the next weeks and installed, but apart from that, i'm fair content.
Continuously looking out for a few goodies that i may purchase, JDM sills, rear oem seat covers, new wheels smile.gif
But appart from that, im happy atm, and will now start looking into Headers/Exhaust/Performance mods.

Heres a couple more pics for the lols.

Hard to tell, but i added little key hole plugs smile.gif

P.s. As you can see my camera quality/skills have also progressed smile.gif Will post some interior shots another day.

Cheers

Camera skill progression > car mod progression. smile.gif

Posted by: mak5603 Feb 3, 2011 - 12:29 PM

Your car looks awesome! Love your choice of mods with the red.

Posted by: smkr3w Feb 6, 2011 - 5:35 PM

Your car is now my favorite one here smile.gif Such a clean an simple look to make it awesome.

Posted by: Ted95 Feb 6, 2011 - 10:35 PM

sexxxyyy

dude great progress with this car.

Posted by: Timmyface Feb 18, 2011 - 7:00 AM

Thanks guys smile.gif

The weather hast been the best atm, so the painting of my rear SS-III splitters are on hold.

So i embarked on another project.

My custom boot install.

Here is how i was currently set up, minus the wires showing.

And the main reason for doing is this, was because the spare tire sticking up was reallly bugging me.

So i took out my carpet, and traced that onto my Particle board.

After a few minor adjustments, i came up with this:

The hole on the right is for my amp to sit in.

The way i wanted my boot to look, was to have my sub laying down, and not vertical.
The only way i could achieve this with my current sub was to lean it against the tyre and the seats, meaning there would need to be a hole for the sub to rest in.

This is the result.

I than added supports underneath to level out the new floor, and everything went together nicely.

I than cut a second piece of MDF to sit over the sub to make it all flush, ill post other pics tomorrow, but this is how it is atm.

Everything is sitting good, although since my sub isnt sitting ON the new floor, the floor is jumping when i go over bumps.
So any pointers on a way to weigh it down or secure it would be great smile.gif
I'll be wrapping the floor tomorrow and show the finished product.

Posted by: Timmyface Feb 21, 2011 - 7:09 AM

So heres my first attempt and wrapping with vinyl.

Might do a better job another day, but it looks okay for the moment smile.gif

Posted by: Bigstring Feb 21, 2011 - 8:10 AM

Cracking effort there mate, top job......

Posted by: kar1 Feb 22, 2011 - 2:56 PM

looks awesome mate. so different to how it started!

Posted by: Timmyface Mar 3, 2011 - 12:22 AM

Finally got some good weather, so operation Paint/Install rear splitters were a go.

Came out really well. Had to modify them a bit to fit correctly, but was all simple stuff.
Now to decide if i want to go SS-III on the front aswell. Hmm.

Posted by: SwissFerdi Mar 3, 2011 - 12:32 AM

Oh wow. I'm totally de-spoilering mine. Looks gorgeous.

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Mar 3, 2011 - 2:36 AM

stop doing this too me. I hate you guys now I'm so jealous, so many progress threads with red celica's. The red on the celica is just drop dead gorgeous. I want my celica painted just like yours!!!!! very nice celica. I'm liking it a lot, it looks a bit better than manphibian's celica. I think it could be the shade of red that's a tad different, but I just can't put my finger on it. biggrin.gif

naw stay with your current front bumper and euro splitters they look awesome!

Posted by: Timmyface Mar 3, 2011 - 2:44 AM

Haha, thanks bonzai. I've always loved manphibians car when i first got mine smile.gif
I am liking the euro splitters too, the only downfall is the difference between them and the skirts and splitters.
SS-III would flow better..but.. >< I don't know anymore.

And spoilerless all the way (Y)

Posted by: mak5603 Mar 3, 2011 - 2:51 AM

I like spoilerless on some cars and on some I don't. I really like it on yours though. I Think your car would look AMAZING with ss-III splitters in the front.

edit: Oh yeah, looking at it again the second pic with ss-III front splitters would be soooooo awesome.

Posted by: Timmyface Mar 3, 2011 - 2:57 AM

>< It sucks that i'm a very easily convinced type of guy. The smallest compliment can change my mind in an instant.

I have been contemplating it for QUITE a long time, as the only photos i have seen are from terbeau and recently suprakid, which have looked pretty good.

Undoubtedly, someone will say the right words and put me into the buying mindset to get them tongue.gif

Posted by: Timmyface Apr 16, 2011 - 12:26 AM

Haven't updated this in a while.

A while ago a re-routed my intake system. I'll try get some photo's but i have recently fractured my knee-cap frown.gif
Basically with the intake, i have a flexi pipe running inside the stock airbox, into the fender where the pod filter is.
Looks stock, but not smile.gif

Recently i have:
Got 2 new front tyres. Toyo Teo+'s.

Changed my guages and clock to Blue - Although not 100% happy, i may go with Spree's LED's.

My k's are starting to tick up frown.gif

Installed a 2 1/4" Catback exhaust system.

Purchased a 6000k HID Kit which is on its way.

Currently need 2 new rear wheel bearings frown.gif The sound is horrible atm.

Aaaaannnnddd, a little edit i done smile.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Apr 16, 2011 - 1:20 AM

Your car is one of the cleanest cars on this site thumbsup.gif

Posted by: delusionz Apr 16, 2011 - 6:46 AM

F*cking hot dude! I love every mod on that car!!!

Posted by: mmmchocolate Apr 16, 2011 - 3:56 PM

Thought about getting ss-III splitters in the front anymore?

Posted by: Timmyface Apr 16, 2011 - 6:55 PM

Possibly if a set popped up at the right price i'd consider it. I'm pretty happy with it atm once I do all my lights again, so I may consider them again soon. But at the meantime i'll wait till a set finds me haha.

Posted by: KALLusion Apr 16, 2011 - 8:05 PM

sweet ride. Nice job!

Posted by: Timmyface Apr 27, 2011 - 6:32 AM

Ok, so, Having a fractured knee cap isn't playing to well on my budget spending. Sitting at home all day on the net = $$$ that i don't have haha.

I've recently installed my HID's, but im waiting till i can drive to get a good night photo.

In the mean time, i'm waiting for my LED Kit from spree, and i have some new guages/bezel coming too.

So currently, since i cant drive frown.gif my car is in pieces, interior wise, waiting for my new parts.

Boredom finally got ahold of me and decided to mod again haha.

Since im getting Spree's LED's, i have my old ones spare, so this is what i came up with.

The inside lights worked out pretty good. Spread evenly and doesnt light up the car, just them side pockets.
Adds a nice accent to the inside smile.gif

QUOTE (Timmyface @ Mar 3, 2011 - 12:22 AM) *

That is a gorgeous shot. You know, is it just me or does the 6gc actually resemble an Aston Martin from that angle? Without the spoiler I can really see a DB9...

Posted by: Timmyface May 12, 2011 - 4:31 AM

New update time since its cold and have nothing better to do.

So my 'Wheel bearing' problem turned out to be my back tyres.
So i moved them up front and the noise is a little less noticable now smile.gif

I removed the blue led's in the doors, thought it was a bit too noticable for my likings.

Anywho, Recieved my dash kit from spree, heres some pics of my AC Controls and Guages.

I also bought a set of custom made gauges, white, with outlines of numbers at night.
Could be a bit better, looks better in the photos but i'm happy atm.

Heres some pics of them in the light. Also carbon Fibre wrapped the surrounding bezel.

And the ashtray thingg.

Also modded my pre-face indicators.
Made them into Parker/Indicators. Think they turned out fairly well smile.gif

Buying a set of SSIII Splitters this week, hoping they will be on in a week or too. Re-done my intake again, shall get pics tomorrow.
And that about all thats new. wink.gif

Posted by: S8S8 May 12, 2011 - 4:51 AM

The new dials look good, especially with the CF surround.

Posted by: Timmyface May 16, 2011 - 1:38 AM

Still working on making the LED's look good in there, but it looks sweet at day time! haha.

Heres a quick pic of my new intake setup. I CBF finishing it any time soon haha.

And look whats coming by the end of next week hopefully smile.gif

Test fittings.

Send your euro splitters this way tongue.gif

Posted by: Timmyface May 16, 2011 - 3:37 AM

Maybe in a bit tongue.gif Think i might hold onto them for a while in case i change my mind again tongue.gif

I shall see how this looks in a week or two, and i might not want to hold onto the euro's tongue.gif

Posted by: delusionz May 16, 2011 - 3:51 AM

Yeah I really liked the look of SS-III sides and rear with euro splitters on your car, I actually didn't think you would go SS-III all round.

I suggest drop the rear more or raise the front a tad and call it a day with the euro splitters smile.gif

Posted by: Timmyface May 16, 2011 - 4:24 AM

I've thought about it for a couple of months now, so i took the plunge.

I'll see what feedback i get once i do it tongue.gif

I have to find somewhere to roll my guards if i want to drop the back any more, which i would like to another cm or two, but lifting the front might be easier to level it out better.

Front on photos i loveeee the euro splitters, but the side views just let the car down in my eyes.

Here's a shot of my HID's.
Its freezing outside so i cbf getting a better angle tongue.gif

Posted by: delusionz May 16, 2011 - 4:59 AM

That looks really nice,

Yeah, I know what you mean, Roll the inner lip up. Call up engineer shops, ask them if they have that tool I don't know what it's called, but it bolts onto your hub and they turn it.

I'd have to do the same if I had flush fitment lol

Posted by: Timmyface May 16, 2011 - 5:09 AM

Yeah, no one within the hours drive around my house can do it.

And i don't feel like buying the tool myself tongue.gif

I may have to venture towards sydney if i ever get the effort. tongue.gif

Hopefully this will be one of the last shots before the SSIII Splitters come on.
Weathers too crap to paint them atm, hopefully through the week smile.gif

Also have an EL Panel coming for my guages. Hopefully they will work out good.

Posted by: Timmyface Jun 2, 2011 - 5:10 AM

So today,

I hop out of the car at work and what do i see.... My right splitter just dangling there, but 1 screw.
I don't know how long it was hanging there for, but i wasn't too happy.

So atm, i'm 1 splitter down till i put it back on tomorrow. frown.gif

Anywho, got my EL Panel the other day, here are some pics of the speedo:

If your brave you can use a hammer/rubber mallet and a heat gun to roll your fenders.
Its not the best way, but if you don't have access to a fender roller it would work.
Heat the paint up around the lip so that it doesn't crack and just slowly work the lip up

Posted by: Timmyface Jun 26, 2011 - 6:05 AM

Not much of an update, but heres a few photos.

Got my SSIII Front Splitters painted today, so these shall be the last with the euro's on smile.gif

I also have a mad leak somewhere in the car.. might get photos of that too

Posted by: Timmyface Jun 29, 2011 - 7:33 AM

SSIII Splitters.

I'll get some better photos on the weekend. Heres some driveway pics for the moment.

Posted by: dudeofchaos Jun 29, 2011 - 11:32 AM

Damn your car looks sooo gorgeous! How do you make your paint look so glossy and perfect? lol
I like everything about it, simply beautiful. Makes me wanna go wingless!
Btw, do you have any pictures or any writings about how to install the projectors and make your parker/indicator? Cause I don't think there's a bulb at this place in the projector right?

Whatever.. clean, clean! Love it.

Posted by: RabidTRD Jun 29, 2011 - 1:20 PM

I can't wait to get the splitters for my car. Looking good

Posted by: manphibian Jun 29, 2011 - 1:55 PM

Good stuff thumbsup.gif

Posted by: mak5603 Jun 29, 2011 - 2:30 PM

Those SSIII splitters look 100 times better than the Euro splitters. thumbsup.gif

Thanks guys smile.gif I'm really happy how they turned out, and pretty much fitted with ease smile.gif keen to get some better photos.

Not sure what your after here. There's 1 or 2 projector how to's on here which I used, and there's a bulb in the projectors for your parkers. If you meant my pre-face turns into parkers, that's simple smile.gif if you need any help/trouble with the projectors id be glad to help out.

WOW, super sick picture man!
These SS-III splitters look way better then the euro splitters IMO.
Was it difficult getting them to fit the preface bumper?
I thought the SS-III were specifically for the post face lift.

Well I don't have projectors (for the moment tongue.gif) but I will get them one day.
What I wanted to know is if there is a bulb next to the projector on the corner for what I believe you call the parkers. (Which you just said there is) Do they light up as soon as you put the key at ''on'' ?
I also wanted to know how you wired your projectors but I didn't know there's a how-to for this. tongue.gif

Posted by: Timmyface Jun 29, 2011 - 5:34 PM

Jordisonjr: The front splitters were prettt much bolt on. The only problem is how the end towards the centre of the car curves in to match the facelift extension. Once bolted tight enough they curve under the facelift too.

I'm lovin them.

Chaos: yeah, in the corners of the projecters there's a bulb spot. They turn on when you flick your lights on once, so them/tails light up but not your lights. Some people have put indicators in there too.

There's some write ups on projectors but in short, you need to take your front bumper off, than they're a direct replacement.

Posted by: Timmyface Jul 3, 2011 - 7:18 AM

Tomorrow the celica is receiving New brake pads, Inner CV boot, and fixing an oil leak. Than she should be running good smile.gif

This will pretty much turn into half of a photography thread until i get more money for ideas. Might as well start saving for a swap smile.gif

Posted by: RabidTRD Jul 3, 2011 - 7:27 PM

Not usually a fan of the mesh behind the grille, but yours is done well. Blends decently and isn't like "HEY LOOK AT MY GRILLE!"

Posted by: Timmyface Jul 3, 2011 - 7:36 PM

Haha yeah, that came into consideration when choosing a colour. The silver and red mesh were exactly how you said it, trying to draw attention when its not needed.

smile.gif How is your Beams living up to your expectations. I'm still undecided, but leaning more towards the beams as its an easier drop in to the 3sgte.
Have you got it dyno'd yet to see what it pulls?

Apart from thinking of a new engine, i'm still constantly thinking of new rims.

How about some Bronze 18"s, Dropped more and stanced?

I'm very happy with the Beams now. It took a while to get used to, but now that I know the engine better it's much easier to get the most out of, and it's really enjoyable to drive hard!

I would like more power though, and I think that maybe if I had my time again I would go down the 3SGTE path. But that said, I haven't driven a 3SGTE powered Celica either, so I couldn't say whether it would be more fun.

I haven't had mine dyno'd yet, but I'm sure sometime down the track I will do. It feels strong though, so I'm not too worried about it just yet.

Posted by: Ted95 Nov 18, 2011 - 12:29 AM

i was too was deciding between the Beams and the 3sgte at one point too and i was lucky enough to be able to test drive both and the Beams is a very fun car but 3sgte is the way to go in my opinion because you can drive it everyday just like a 5s and get about 3500rpms and it just sucks you back into your seat.

weigh your options out and figure out your power goals, from what i hear with the Beams swap is that eventually people want more power and you have a wide range of power with the 3sgte.

car looks great man keep it up!

oh ya, i went the the 3sgte biggrin.gif

They are Vincent doggys, formally on whatthe's car smile.gif.
They fit pretty wel though, I did very minimal sanding in certain spots, but other than that the bolts bend it enough and hold it in place.
There's not too much fuss at all putting them on a pre-ace.

Meh. Those are a waste of money. You can't get a good enough adjustment with those. They're usually only +/- 1 degree. Smaller bolts (grade 10) and heavy duty washers for the win.

Posted by: Timmyface Dec 9, 2011 - 7:51 PM

Its a waste of money when you get the wrong F***en size mad.gif
Please enlighten me further on these smaller bolts and washers and how they work haha.

I dont know how much degree i need, but i want it like 1inch more positive thats all.

Posted by: Timmyface Dec 19, 2011 - 3:34 AM

.. Getting there..slowly

Before:

After^

Not much of a change, but it's noticeable i guess.
I also raised the rear about 1cm to try get a bit less camber, but didn't effect it much.

Not quiet sure if it was worth it yet haha. May buy another set for the lower bolts... or bigger spacers tongue.gif

Posted by: RabidTRD Dec 19, 2011 - 5:51 PM

ROFL pedo bear.. My friend wants that sticker on his Accord.

Grade 10 bolts my friend. Anything in smaller diameter than the stock ones with grade ten washers. Use it up top and you're golden.

Your car is very well executed, props, man! I have a 97 celica gt with the same color. hope I can make clean and flawless too! but still got a good chunk of work ahead of me. And just out of curiousity, what did you do with your antenna? did you fill in the space of the boot? cuz my anttenna's tracks wore out so it was stuck up and got knocked off and to my surprise found the radio still works fine and was thinking of either getting another anttenna mast or finding a way to fill the hole in with something better than electrical tape.

I havn't done anything with my antenna? With my headunit, I used my antenna cable to turn my amp on, as I don't really use the radio. But it still works fine for me also.
Your best bet is to either bog it, and fibreglass over it and paint, or fry make a circle covering out of plastic or fibreglass?
I still have my antenna, its just never up haha.

And rabid, I may try locate some grade 10 bolts, and put the camber ones on bottom.
Just the idea of a smaller bolt to me, allows more room for the hub to slip and be loose.

Ohhhhhhh lol my bad then, im probably gonna end up getting an antenna to replace my buchered one from a junk yard, praying ill find one somewhere! but yeah if it was a perfect world, I would get rid of that but I just cant take that on right now. but yeah I know how, just cant do it right now. I still need to repaint my new door sitting in the garage and fix a little bit of rust on my hatch then I get to the real fun stuff smile.gif , still deciding if I should refinish my stock alloy wheels or get some aftermarket ones

It won't slip if you run hardened washers. It's the same as your normal bolt.

Camber bolts in the bottom will not be a good idea. Just run the stock bolts bottom, smaller up top. I've been doing that and hitting corners at 30MPH+ with streets that have potholes (chewing my winter tires up lol) and have had no issues at all with it slipping out. The shop I had it aligned at did the bolts... I guess it's what they do lol.

spray paint I'm assuming. with the black rims it doesn't make it look as flush as before. the silver made it look like it was more flush with the fender and quarter panel. you should of invested in some plasti dip spray paint (that way you could of taken it off like a sticker, if you didn't like the black color).

timmy your car is full of win, thats why your in my sig and the rims look pretty sweet black (although i might be biased to black rims on red cars haha)

AND...... it IS plasti-dip! so i can rip it off whenever i like tongue.gif
I have a rim sticker coming so i have a silver lip, so that may compliment it a bit and make it look a bit more flush maybe haha.

It was my first time doing it... came out pretty rough. Could probably have used a few more layers, or good layers at that. I was unsure if i was applying it to light or too heavy.

@Payne: Wasnt tooooo difficult. All you need is a hot knife (soldering iron with a thin blade tip) than you just cut in the back and take it out, and glue it back on.
Or you can go the other way, and heat the whole tail light up in an oven, and remove the glass, but thats a bit of an effort haha.

My largest fear with the euro's is just that. I keep parking on declines where the concrete stopper is and go crosseyed trying to keep my car from rolling forward when I reverse out of the parking space. It's a rather stressful thing. I need to stop parking in places like that lol.

yes and no..... the larger rim puts a larger percentage of weight further from the axle, increasing moment of inertia. hard to explain, but think of a figure skater; with the arms out they spin slower, arms in and they speed up. With the same input rotational force, putting more mass toward the center will make it easier to spin.

I'm sure there is some loss in the 15" to 17" wheel. I have some cheapo 17's on my car now, i don't notice much change, and even though the outside diameter is the same 215/40R17 to the stock 15" size which keeps my speedo right on, you can't get an 18" rim with the same OD as the stock 15" size. So, the larger tire is going to do two things, increase moment of inertia.... AND effectively gear the car up. normal driving you'd likely not notice much difference, but if you compared track times, the smaller wheels win.

My concern is that I didn't want to take the "fun" out of the beams with 18" rims by hurting it's acceleration too much from heavy oversized wheels even though they look outstanding on the car frown.gif

Getting back to the thread, The reason I asked Timmy about your current wheels is I couldn't tell if they were 17's or 18's. In any case they look good, but if they were 18's I was hoping you could shed some light on how maybe the car felt different after 18" addition.

In any case, I think any of the above choices will flow NICELY with your car smile.gif

Theyre MSR'S aren't they, not the Konigs? Agree that that does look real shmick, but not for me smile.gif

I think I'm going to go 18x8.5 +35 All round and keep 20mm spacers in the rear. Gives me a more options smile.gif

Yea they are MSR's, now that I look at them though, they arevery similar to Konig lacs, just without a lip.

I noticed an increase of heft at the steering wheel going from stock 185/70/14 to 225/45/17. I realize now I chose too much tire, next size I will try is 215/40 or 205/40. Regardless, unsprung weight is indeed noticeable, especially with heavy wheels like mine.

Thats alot of rim an tire on a st lol
Your running tc rims right? Get rid of those an get a different set of 17s youll barely noticeca difference
Atleast that how the coupe was going from the tc rims to a different set of 17s
It was a night an day difference

Posted by: RabidTRD Apr 24, 2012 - 4:18 PM

Yeah, I'll be doing 205/40/17 next time I get tires.

Posted by: Timmyface Apr 24, 2012 - 6:02 PM

Yeah I'm running 205/45 on my 17's ATM. Will probably get similar and run some stretch on my new ones. Might go with some Enjei Rpf1's and keep it clean.

I'm not overly concerned about a small power loss ATM haha.

Avant Garde M310 - Matte Black:

^Not as concaved in the rear

3SDM 0.01 - Silver w/Diamond Cut Polished Face (This polished face is what im concerned about)

Posted by: jordisonjr Apr 30, 2012 - 10:51 AM

I think the dark wheels suit your car much better man.
They already look sick with a dark wheel.
UU'd definately go for the first ones in black, or maybe even gun metal or something not black but stil dark

^Lowered the rear.
Lowered it down to the rim on the weekend, but it rubbed so much i got half way up the road and came back. I dont know how them VIP/Stance guys handle it ><

Pretty happy with how its sitting now. Might space the front out another 5mm down the track.

Posted by: mak5603 May 23, 2012 - 12:24 PM

Looks really nice man! thumbsup.gif

What size tires you running? The VIP/stance guys that are running static setups have insanely stretched tires and usually a fair amount of camber to not rub as bad. Some just dont give a ****, lol. The cheaters use bags..

Posted by: jordisonjr May 23, 2012 - 1:58 PM

^Bags are for grocerys

Posted by: mak5603 May 23, 2012 - 2:36 PM

^^ Si senor. Eff bags (lol, don't know if anyone is ever on the vw vortex and has read this debate rolleyes.gif).

Posted by: Timmyface May 23, 2012 - 3:04 PM

Bags are good if your going for pure looks. But I like a bit of handling too. I've got no rubbing now so I'm happy smile.gif
I'm running:
18x8: 215/40/18
18x9: 225/40/18

Very little camber too. I'll probably got a 205/40 when my fronts wear out.

Posted by: excalibur May 26, 2012 - 5:06 AM

Posted by: SwissFerdi Jun 18, 2012 - 10:23 PM

So how are those applied? My wheels don't have a lip, per se, so it's tough to visualize doing it...looks good though.

Posted by: Timmyface Jun 18, 2012 - 10:27 PM

Seeing as my tyres are stretched, I put these on the insides of my wheels. And my lip on the front wasn't big enough, but it's just a bit of plastic on double sides tape, off eBay. It's thicker trim stuff not just the tape.

Posted by: mkernz22 Jun 18, 2012 - 11:29 PM

How do you get that much of a motion effect at such a slow speed? I can't seem to figure it out on my own lol

Posted by: Timmyface Jun 18, 2012 - 11:53 PM

Clamp your camera to your car somehow. Rig/auction mount. Use a slow shutter speed (10seconds etc) and push the car. smile.gif

Timmy~ What's the offset on your wheels? I'm running 18x9 ET28 front and ET23 rear but the rears are tucked. frown.gif Adding spacers soon, but still.. Yours seem like a perfect fit.

Posted by: Timmyface Jul 7, 2012 - 5:09 PM

I seen you were running them and was quite confused.
Most of the pictures are:
Fronts: 18x8 +30
Rears: 18x9 +30

I've recently added 5mm spacer to the rear, but in saying that you should still have more poke than me all round. When I had my 18x9 +30 up front, I had too much poke I wouldn't have been able to drive.

Posted by: Ehrgeiz Jul 7, 2012 - 5:46 PM

Wow, really? That's so weird. I'm adding a 10mm spacer to the rears, so it should be around 18x9 +13.. They'll be slightly past flush.

My fronts are +28 and they poke a bit, but I only rub on huge bumps.

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 7, 2012 - 6:02 PM

I want 17x9's or 18x9's so bad!

You guys would laugh if you new what my "offset" was right now with how fat of a spacer I am running with these lame wheels (just had them laying around) laugh.gif. I mean, it would be a sick offset if it was on some fatter wheels or without such a big spacer. Main thing I want from bigger wheels though is stretched tires, non stretched tires rub like a mofo.

Posted by: Ehrgeiz Jul 7, 2012 - 6:09 PM

Yeah, I have 225/40 all around but tbh, I should've went with 215. I could lower her some more with those. frown.gif

Posted by: Timmyface Jul 8, 2012 - 6:23 AM

Yeah i'm running 225 in the rear and 215 up front. I should deffinately have gone 205 up front, as theres not much stretch at all, which means i can't really go lower or wider with a 5mm spacer.

Posted by: HectortheRican Jul 8, 2012 - 12:32 PM

Recently, re done my boot, again, for the 3rd time. haha.

Posted by: Timmyface Oct 12, 2012 - 11:55 PM

Update!!

Plan B for my wheels. When my front tires wear out, i will be stretching a smaller tire on, putting my 9" up front, and my 8" in the rear with 25mm spacers.

Effectively making me:
18x8 +5 Rear
18x9 +30 Front - Reverse Staggered Fitment. We are FWD afterall tongue.gif

Sample photo of the fronts!

Nice bit of poke smile.gif

And another photo since i haven't in a while.

Car looks amazing bro smile.gif keep up the great work

Posted by: Edser Oct 14, 2012 - 7:25 PM

First of all, awesome car! I really love it! Sooooo nice.
Just a few quick questions,
Can you fold your back seats? And if not, do you miss it? Because I had a BMW coupe 3 series and the lack of a rear hatch really annoyed me on occasion. Before that I had a Prelude and the small rear opening and lack of folding seats was insufferable. I always measured every load for my mid 90s Integra, and nothing shaped up til I got my 96 Celica (which I bought this year). Now I have enough space to keep most body parts in the boot (trunk), like the spoiler and interior panels and tools etc.
Do you miss the carrying capacity?
How good is the sound from that subwoofer? I had a large bass cannon in my 'Teg that'd shake the number plates and render the rear-view mirrors useless, does it compare?

Posted by: SwissFerdi Oct 14, 2012 - 7:27 PM

Loads of understeer with that setup, but ballsy in styling, certainly.

Posted by: Timmyface Oct 14, 2012 - 7:43 PM

Edser: the back seats fold forward not back. I can take the panel covering the sun off so I can slide something up the side. But there's not too much room. There's still tonnes of room in the boot for anything I need really. Don't use it that often haha. You can see the bass wobble in the mirrors, but it doesn't move it or make you see any less smile.gif

Swiss: I decided against it. It slipped my mind that my rears are a more concaved wheel and it would look silly. I think I'll either go even more poke with 15mm spacers all round. Or extend my studs and equal them out to the Flush guide.

Oh I get it now. I had poke on my last car. Turns out M3 rear wheels don't fit on a '00 318 coupe. I did everything I could cutting and filing etc., short of flaring the wheel arches. Still the wheels wouldn't fit. It was a very dispiriting experience. Looked great though.

Dude that car looks awesome. You've convinced me to change a few things on mine ie the front fogs removed and the projectors with the chrome indicators.

Looks absolutely amazing biggrin.gif

It's been a pleasure reading this thread and some epic pics too

Nice.
Where can I get such "celica" light?

Posted by: Timmyface Nov 18, 2012 - 2:04 PM

No carbon fibre hatch frown.gif or laser beam. I was going to mount a yoshi on the and have him rotate tongue.gif but that's not it. Haha.

Te celica light, there's a tutorial on here somewhere, you just open up the housing and slip a bit I printed paper in there. That's white text on a black background cut out to fit inside smile.gif

Thanks Timmy.
I'll try to do that.

I second that method, it works well. Just annoying to get it perfectly aligned.

Posted by: Timmyface Nov 18, 2012 - 6:05 PM

Yeah takes quite a while. I might look into it again and make a printable template to use for everyone.

this is by far my favorite 6GC.

So:

Buckled my rim. Doing about 80km/h hit a hammer on the road. Think it's fixable, or be safe and buy a new one. Or be safer and buy 2 new 9" for the front tongue.gif

Posted by: Timmyface Nov 27, 2012 - 1:32 AM

Turned out my rim had a 20cm or so crack in it. So its getting repaired, but i'll keep it as a spare. Feel uneasy using it as a daily.
So, a new wheel has been bought. Stuck with 18x8 though. i didnt have the spare $700 to put 9's up there.

Regarding my thread on wheel spacer bolts, turned out that I had a good 10mm or so of neg camber. Fixed that up smile.gif
