6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ Tigawoods' 1995 Celica

Posted by: Tigawoods Mar 19, 2009 - 9:39 AM

after a long (in my eyes) hiatus from June 2012, finally back on the road

So here is the story of my celica.

so i dont get to ramble on too much, lets start out with the first picture i took of my car back in 2006 when I got her.

the first mod that i did was my JL speakers all around. nothing special. i wasnt too much into the whole 6gc scene until a little bit after.

i then stripped the hub caps and started putting every sticker i found on that car!

then i had finally gotten into the 6gc scene and started to mod her. first things first, a $70 weapon r intake from a fellow member. needless to say i felt badass installing it seeing as how it was my first mod.

http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdQKHBZH2yg&feature=channel_page\"

after that came exhaust, a nice n\' rare SP1

THEN TRAGEDY STRUCK!
i had thrown a rod and my car was up for about 3months, saddest moment ever!

after all was said and done, i got a new rebuilt block.

the day it was back on the road

this is the first pic i took with my new camera

Then after not having it for a while i wanted to get her gifts, thus leading us into the...
BAD IDEA PHASE

end phase smile.gif

then i put on my XS auto headers the NIGHT before i was leaving for my freshman year of college. ended up rushing and cutting to hastily and had a bad exhaust leak. and a lil bit after put heat wrap on the rad tubes cwm13.gif
also i got one of the limited DCR 3points

then after a month or so, my engine quit on me while cruising around pittsburgh. had to tow it back home to the shop the block was built at in philly. ended up being a bad head gasket. frown.gif

then i just started buying stuff while at school and putting it in

SPENDING PHASE

installing hid\'s in february

most up to date interior shot at night

most up to date engine shot

Got some bars

STEELIES PAINTED biggrin.gif

yellow jdm fogs

jdm tails

yellow highs

MATURING PHASE
well i took off all the stickers haha

got new rubbers

a big shipment

auto-x came into my life

http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s66yhF5jtVk\"

then she sat for a while, not being modded, she was content

THE SCREW YOU GUYS MY CAR IS FINALLY LOWERED PHASE
this is how she sits as of now smile.gif

props to art for getting me into this scene thumbsup.gif

the end.....?

the auto-x point was the high point haha. the ksports are the most recent mod i have done. i should add it in.

the sad thing is she wont be getting to many presents this summer. all my money is going to the camera haha. i really want to get wheels, if i see any deals i will jump on it, i have been too picky. i want white wheels, that are light. ssr? 400 a piece no ways

looks very good. I'm just starting the AutoX phase going to a couple last year. I think I found a new hobby. I love the progression. Hopefully we can all avoid the bad idea phase. biggrin.gif

Just a short note on the autox vid, which was great and awsome production by the way thumbsup.gif

I noticed that when your coming to a cone, you tend to react when your just getting to the cone, kinda like heading straight for it (or i guess right next to it lol) and then once you are past the cone, or right at it, you react to where the next is. My advice is to concentrate on knowing where the next cone is when your already heading for the cone coming up. "Concentrate on the immediate future, not the immediate past or pressent." Another way to think of it is to try to hit the inside cone your going around with your rear inside tire. The only way to do this is to not aim at the cone, but to go high, and treat the cone as an apex. Just like on a road course. your best line is to start wide, turn in at the right moment, to make your rear inside tire hit the apex, and then exit wide. In autox, exiting wide (depending on the course setup) could help or hurt, but findin the apex and setting up the car to hit that apex is key on any course.

For example, in the almost "zig-zag" slalom portion of the course (1:25-end of run) you entered actually really well, started turn in outside since you were already wide, which made your car straightend for the next cone before you passed the current one. For the rest of it, you tend to react when you reach the cone, therefore, you play a game of "catch-up" with rest of the course, causing panic-induced steering and forcing your mind to think faster, which will just slow your driving down. You want to know exactly whats coming up and know exactly where your car should be after every turn. Slow, fluid steering will also keep the tire friction low and controlled, which will come naturally when you get used to setting up your car for the next turn.

I have a picture/diagram/drawing on my comp of what i mean, it makes it 10x easier to explain. I would say check out the vid in the sig, but it's not quite the best example or the best view, but it's close. I raced my last event in my friends 95 Neon ACR E-prepared/rally car and I had just understood the concept. Im looking for the vid it's a good example. Otherwise, i'll try find one of my teammate's best video from last season. He's the STS champ 2 years in a row. He is deff a good example of correct corner set up.

Great write up! I have def taken it to heart, I understood the gist of it but unfortunately I am a visual learner kindasad.gif (damn the artist in me) it would be great if somehow u could send me that diagram

watched the vid. wow

lol my vid isn't my best, but non the less, it has all 4 runs there so it's a good progression example of a typical event lol

i'm a visual learner, being an art major myself, which is why i kept the diagram and studied it more then the words everyone wrote. i know it's here somewhere! lol. i'll post it up here when i get it.

EDIT: Ok, so unfortunetly im starting to remember that it was an actual piece of paper that I had that was the diagram. i could draw it up in illustrator or something when i get some time in the next couple of days. It will really clear up what im trying to say.

Another thing i thought of when watching some of my old vids: Try not to cross your hands when turning hard. This will come surprising naturally when the correct technique is found in your driving. You will have to turn the wheel less, which means sometimes u might not have to cross your arms.
THis is an OK example of my friend in his STS civic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX85V7thPPc&feature=channel_page
He never crosses his hands. When going right, he pulls with the right hand, pushes with the left, and when his left hand reaches across his body, he doesn't reach back up to the top of the wheel with his right hand, he either shuffles his left hand up and brings his right where it was, or he will just simply push a little harder with his left hand.

Good tips here: http://www.windycitymiataclub.com/autox/faqs/10.html best overall explaination IMO

Jeez i need to make that diagram lol.

yet another EDIT: this vid was from june 08. an example of me concentrating on not crossing my hands (except for the start) i was on crap tires and i didn't have a front sway bar (spun out on my last run, not in vid) but you get the idea i hope. ok that's my big paragraph for the day haha

Posted by: Tigawoods Mar 23, 2009 - 8:21 AM

i hope i get a ish load of seat time so i can use all this! hahaha
the top 10's are a great guide thanks!

IM SO EXCITED!
i went to a meet in pittsburgh last night and talked with this subie guy. one thing led to another and he told be to come to an auto-x tomorrow. $25

CHEAP AS HELL!
im excited to test out all the suspension work

Posted by: Stambo Apr 25, 2009 - 12:23 PM

we have a autox tomorrow in milwaukee but its raining all weekend frown.gif

Posted by: rj8807 Apr 26, 2009 - 5:12 PM

so how did the auto-x go? DC region had one today, but i was working :-(

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 26, 2009 - 6:21 PM

just got back. i liked the set up of the course because it tested me in a way that i hadnt been in previous events.

2 main notable points where a mid speed 2500rpmish turn into a straight where i found out on the low end celicas do not perform well.
and then in a small S turn where i had to downshift to first, which took me two runs to go from high speed 2nd brake brake brake and shift to 1st

at this event i also saw how outclassed i am in BSP.
the FTD car was in BSP(TurboWRX) and ran a 49.2 with the avg. of the day was around 54ish.
I will probably try out DSP for a couple events and see if its more my kind of cars

it was a test event to play around and get used to my suspension set up.

all in all it was alot of fun and cant wait to get back to philly and start running there.

Posted by: Stambo Apr 26, 2009 - 8:39 PM

At our events so far in milwaukee, i didnt get that low in the rpms to downshift. The celi's are slow when its down in the low rpms frown.gif

What times did you end up running?

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 26, 2009 - 9:06 PM

yeah it was a surprise to everyone when they set it up. after my second run i got used to it and kind of liked it. i had a smooth transition from 2nd to 1st.

the main main problem was trying to gain speed from that low rpm in 2nd gear. i had to feather the pedal to be able to keep my rpms steady so i can exit and gain speed quicker than what i did in the beginning which was staying a constant speed around the turn, and then gassing it on the exit, and it took a few seconds to build up speed. it sucked
my times where(all estimates till i get the final results)

Off Course (6 cones in slalom)
69.936 +1 cone (+2sec)
64.961 +1
61.914

i was ahead of a vette until he pulled a 59.911 his last run
there was a ASP Porsche 911 and a AS S2000 that i got faster times than
there where a few other cars that i had better times
i know if i had gotten at least 2 more runs i would have gotten down to 58

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 26, 2009 - 9:12 PM

i just ordered a "D" to replace the "B" so now ill have both. one for being conservative, and the other if i feel like getting torn up

could your steelies be holding you back?? laugh.gif nice bro thumbsup.gif i wish to do some autoxing

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 26, 2009 - 10:08 PM

they are 35lbs each. i am looking into hoosiers and some 13's. in DSP or BSP you can run slicks

daaaaamn. 295 a tire is the cheapest

just basic odds and ends. money is going into the camera and auto-x events.
maybe farther along down the road when my warranty is up. cams. and if it every pops up again, supercharge, but thats a longshot

Posted by: Stambo Apr 27, 2009 - 6:51 PM

Looks like overall for you personally, you progressed throughout the day. I dont know if its just me, but when i see a higher performance car just a second or two ahead of me i really try to push myself more to feel like i really did good that day. If you were keeping up with a vette thumbsup.gif on that one.

Did you film your runs?

Also i just bought "the gripper" and i am very impressed at how stable it really is!

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 27, 2009 - 9:30 PM

nah. i was very unprepared for this. all my stuff was a home. helmet numbers vidcamera. etc.
still learned and had fun.

ur gunna have fun with the gripper. worth every penny of the 100.03

Posted by: Stambo Apr 27, 2009 - 9:54 PM

I wish i had like 4 of them so i could make a better "montage" if you will of one run with different angles.

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 28, 2009 - 9:27 AM

thats what my autox vid kind of was. putting the camera different places and stitching the video together like it was one run

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 28, 2009 - 9:40 AM

found a guy with a 70-200 2.8 and asked him if i can get some good pics of me racing.

Posted by: jimmykay Apr 28, 2009 - 10:13 AM

Thats so awesome. I went AutoXing sunday as well. We just got the times back today. I ended up in 9th out of 17 on the PAX. 2/2 in my class by a half of a second. No camera's or anything but it's a blast. Not bad for only my third event.

Posted by: Tigawoods Apr 29, 2009 - 10:25 PM

not bad at all. im glad there are others on here that are interested in auto-x.
its so much fun and you find out alot about your driving skills and your cars abilities

Posted by: rj8807 May 2, 2009 - 8:55 AM

nice pics!!!

i might be hitting up one of the philly region races for old time's sake. I'm being very selective due to low $$$ and i got HYPERDRIVE COMING UP!!! SO EXCITED!!

a good cheap way to get tires is not to buy them new. Used ones will do you just fine, especially when you find them cheap. If you can, save the money for like 15" wheels, and then search ebay toward fall/winter. The Spec miata guys will sell 225/50/15 Hoosier R6's (4 of them) with like 6 races on them for like $50. They may be used, but it will last the average autox (especially if your starting to get serious) a while. when you feel they are done, you can always ask other racers if they have used ones.

I got offered 4 275/35/17s that were used once at Solo nationals the previous year, for $120 no joke.

and there's always the www.sccaforums.com For sale therads. good place to look lol

are you going to build a full on Street prepared car? i would highly recomend getting a daily. drove an EP (E-prepared) car down to the event, raced, and back again. stripped, one race seat, roll bar, and straight through exhaust. fun for like 15mins, and on the course, annoying for the rest.

Posted by: Tigawoods May 2, 2009 - 9:29 AM

yeah ive been checking the forums often looking for used tires
i have a friend that i just talked to that said he can get me tires for really cheap, unfortunatley hoosiers arent under the list. he said tires like
Azenis RT-615 and the Advan A048's for about 70 a tire. which is extremely cheap.

i would like to build this car to the point where its still a sensible DD

Hoosiers are a big commitment anyway. getting to races earlier to put the wheels on, new wheels, ect. and when your a budget college racer, just like me, its just not in the cards. Thats why im building a Street touring car lol

Can your friend get Bridgestones or Kumho's? They both have 2 top of the line extreme performance tires that are amazing on the course. Bridgestone RE-11s i've personally tried this season on my friend's prepped Street touring car, and they are AWSOME! The Kumho's are pretty much the "budget version" of the Bridgestones.

Dont get me wrong, Azenis are good, but there's better out there for little to no extra $$$. The yokohama's are yet to be determained how good they are since they arn't out yet, but they are getting really good reviews.

tires are a big choice!!! i hope i've given you a little help in your decision. But any tire you get, you make sure it's the right decision for your own reasons, not because someone else says its good.

Posted by: Tigawoods May 3, 2009 - 2:58 PM

its going to be budget wise for me. haha. i have found wheels. i decided not go waste my money and get 57optimises or rims that are worth more than the car
last night i was looking at tires and came across those kumhos

if i where more serious i would devote more money into it and get hoosiers but im not there yet.
i am comparing and contrasting all options so i can come to a reasonable and affordable option.
i have some time. but my first event is this saturday. im using these first events to get used to how the suspension reacts to the courses

Posted by: Tigawoods May 4, 2009 - 10:12 PM

ordered some toys for her and they are en route to my house via big brown trucks.

What would be better.
Lightweight wheels with ok tires.
or
Slightly Heavy wheels (not as bad as steelies) and real sticky tires?

im thinking#2

why are this tires so damn expensive. do they even last. i may want to do this in the future. but right now money is an issue... pluess i will need another car..

I Found this set on craigs list for $150 when I was looking for wheels, there in Georgia too.

lightwweight wheels with ok tires, because tires get replace more often than wheels, once you have decent wheels you can save for the next set of tires to have the perfect combo, but on the other hand heavy wheels will always be heavy and will need to be upgraded to lightweight later regardless of how good tires you have.

you'll pick up a 0.0001s in accelaration and reduce braking distance with lighter wheels too.

Posted by: Tigawoods May 8, 2009 - 7:33 PM

yeah. im still looking at hoosiers. everyone says they are the best of the best.
but i dont feel like spending the money for them, used would be the best option
thanks for the link njccmd

your right stevenson, you go through tires more than wheels.

Posted by: rj8807 May 9, 2009 - 11:51 AM

i hope its sticky tires and heavy wheels. best option IMO. spend money on tires. light wheels dont win, tires do.

a car build is a long term process, lightweight wheels will remain there way after the tires are gone, next tires can be the best tires on the market, tires get replace, and being honest, the amount of driving time he has on auto X, he won't be able to take advantage to its full potential of expensive tires just yet ( sorry tiga, not putting down your skills, is just you are relatively new to the sport )

Let me refrase my statement to further clarify my point: "I hope it's sticky tires and *cheap/inexpensive* wheels. best option IMO. Spend money on *used slicks and/or extremem performance street* tires. *Light weight/expensive* wheels dont win, tires do."

Another note, your point is severely backwards, even though it's different for every driver. Light weight wheels wont do sh!t for Tiga unless he is on the weight reduction process stage of the car build. Also, as stated earlier in the thread, budget is key at this point, and light weight wheels arnt cheap. The Street prepared class usually banks off of weight reduction, but then again, the Street prepared class is not exactly a *beginner* class due to the imense budget needed, that is dangerously close to the Street Modified budget. (which is painfully large)

As for him not being able to use the tires to there full potential, i can understand where your coming from, but when your using a set of new race tires (or used ones for that matter) you souly using them in autox or on the race track. They will wear, but not in one season. People who race at a higher level may be selling there tires when they still have life left in them, but they also need the optimal grip, which is earlier in the tire life. In autox, The Hoosier A6 can last for 3+ seasons, and even longer if you are starting out, and even LONGER if you have a car that is less than 200 hp.

I know people who race in stock class (only struts and race tires allowed) who use those tires to their full potential, as in, buy new almost 4 years ago.

Finally, I think extreme performane tires are good for biginning, even when you are allowed to use race slicks. Put them on another set of wheels, and use them only to drive down, race, and drive back, and you got a looonngg life expentancy.

just thought i'd let you know the http://www.hyper-fest.com/events/hyperDrives.html are coming up, at Hyperfest at summit point race way!!! it may be a distance for u, but it's soooo worth it and i highly recomend it! $40 for 20 min session, you can sign up for as many as you want! basically a HPDE or track day, but instead of paying $250+, it's $40!!! register soon if you want a spot. choose from 4 sessions i think. HOLY SH!T !! You got wheels!!! I'm a little late but I didn't even see this.....

Very nice thumbsup.gif I approve, you need some center caps though.

Posted by: SwissFerdi Jun 27, 2009 - 6:51 PM

Very nice wheels! The white compliments your "perrywinkle" laugh.gif quite nicely.

I don't think your bumpers are faded, doesn't the plastic just take to the paint differently? Fading looks different, I know because the top of my front bumper is beginning to do so. frown.gif frown.gif frown.gif

Posted by: Tigawoods Jun 28, 2009 - 10:33 PM

i think so too. i think the plastics absorb the paint more.
oh well. it doenst bug me too much or else it would have already been fixed lol

thanks for all the compliments. i wanted to go big with rims. and to think i was the car with the crappiest rims at meets.
did a bit of a 180

Posted by: whatthe Jun 28, 2009 - 10:35 PM

So what fancy nuts are you going to go with to make em baller tiga?

Posted by: Tigawoods Jul 25, 2009 - 8:49 PM

the autozone ones that are on there now lol

i have decided to switch from F Street Prepared to Street touring.
I race in 2 regions. Susquehanna and Philly. Susq has about 5 competitors and Philly has none. The competitors all have Rcomp tires and are alot lighter.
Since i am still on street tires and can afford any Rcomps at the time i thought it would be best to move down to Street Touring. There are a large amount of competitors in both regions and i think i could place in the class as well

Posted by: rj8807 Jul 26, 2009 - 12:41 AM

sweet. good choice. lots of competition, but everyone is on a budget or isn't too serious, so its still fun. Co-drove my friends Integra a couple weeks ago, and placed second out of 13, beating out 4 of my friends (including my friend who owned the car).

Make sure u read the rule book over. I know off the top of my head, no 3pt strut bars, interior completely in, and the bar on the floor in the backseat might have to go (if you still have it)

Posted by: Stambo Jul 26, 2009 - 11:35 PM

st over here is basically all the basic bolt ons; header, strut tower bar, exhaust, cone filter intake, sway bars, lowered, and up to i think 235 tires. Just some of the top of my head

Posted by: rj8807 Jul 27, 2009 - 10:40 AM

DC region takes it way too seriously (which is a pain) so if they see they have something that is against the rules, they throw u in non-comp for the day.

when i was working tech, i saw a guy had a 3pt strut bar, and the tech coordinator saw it, and placed a big "NC" on his car in tape.

Unfortunetly they go by the Solo National's Rule book, and since ST is very popular, they are strict. http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules/solo_categories.pdf (ST rules are on the bottom of page 1 to mid page 2)

Posted by: Tigawoods Jul 27, 2009 - 4:06 PM

Philly region may see it and say something about it. The last 2 events of the summer are with them
susquehanna is very laid back and wouldnt say a word.
i will keep in everything and see what philly does.

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 17, 2009 - 4:53 PM

how much does your car weigh? what did you take out of the car to make it as light as possible.

Posted by: Tigawoods Aug 18, 2009 - 5:47 AM

im not sure yet. last time i weighed it which was about a year ago it was 2560lbs
i am hoping for 2499lbs but i highly doubt it. I think it will probably be 2520 or 30.
the back seats passenger seat spare tire is all that was taken out.
my suspension is a great deal lighter than stock. but my strut bar and sway bars weigh more than stock so that adds on a few.
i just need to weigh it lol

Posted by: mafix Aug 18, 2009 - 10:28 AM

the wheels look nice on there.

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 18, 2009 - 12:23 PM

hmm I only know that the dry weight for a ss-III celica is 2600 pounds. wheres the thread that has the weight specs for all different models of 6gc? if there is one. Approximately how much gas did you have in your car when you got it weighed?

oh ya just saw the pics of your interior. I see that your spare tire is in there, do you auto cross with the spare tire. Since for the most part you made the rear end lighter. Did that effect handling by making the car oversteer more. Is there anything else you could do to lighten up weight, taking out insulation from the interior???

Posted by: SwissFerdi Aug 18, 2009 - 5:17 PM

I'm surprised the car would be over 2500. I guess it's the engine?

Mine weighs 2409, spare tire, full interior, most likely no gas.

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 18, 2009 - 5:24 PM

umm ya i saw this one website that listed the weight of the ss-III with 3sge beams. But i want some solid info to back that up, along with all the other 6th gen's.

im looking for dry weight specs...

Posted by: SwissFerdi Aug 18, 2009 - 5:40 PM

I'm gonna wager that mine was taken without gas, so consider it dry.

Posted by: Tigawoods Aug 18, 2009 - 5:56 PM

well st's a a great deal lighter than the gt's. because of the engine. IMO the best model you can have is a GT coupe. light and fast. i just like the hatch style better.

i drive nowadays without the spar tire and tools. i havent had much trouble at my races with the trunk being so light. i see it as being less to pull smile.gif

air conditioning is the best way to take off weight off the front. Windshield washer lines and tank weighs a bit. i havent gotten to that point yet. Air conditioning is a nono and the washer n stuff i might remove next summer.

other than that. misc. interior plastics. door panels. speakers.
but i dont plan on going that far anytime soon haha

i do plan on in the future to get a CF hatch and hood and paint them.
The hatch could be alot lighter. That glass adds so much weight to our cars

ya i know it sounds funnny! just thought you guys are going there cause i saw this one show on rob and big. this security guy weight like 460 pounds. I saw some youtube of an integra type r, and the car was weighed by 4 individual scales that site under each tire. the weight distribution was 63/47. 63% in front and 47% in rear. where could you find a scale like that??

Posted by: Tigawoods Aug 19, 2009 - 4:06 PM

certain shops have that so you can corner balance the car.
expensive stuff. i only see it being nessecary if you really want to get a specific weight set up for racing.

Posted by: mafix Aug 19, 2009 - 5:39 PM

i've corner balanced mine. luckily enough i was within 1% except front to rear. it's well worth it and even more important if you are using a coilover setup.

07 Scion tC Black

93 Honda Civic Si Black

91 Nissan Se-R Black

96 Dodge Neon Black

lots of black ppl

i am already assuming that the Civic will be fast as hell. the other 3 i can deal with

i will be cheating a little bit seeing as i have a few illegal mods in this class.
3pt rear and front and floor bar which doenst do crap

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 20, 2009 - 12:57 PM

really floor bar doest do anything?? well good luck with the race. you going to get some videos up right??

so pretty much once you remove a/c its not something where can just put it back in, in a matter of a few hours. whats the a/c in our cars weigh anyways...

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 20, 2009 - 1:21 PM

corner balancing the cars weight. please elaborate on this...

woops sorry for double post rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Tigawoods Aug 21, 2009 - 10:54 AM

basically it is adjusting the weight on all four corners of the car. this is done by changing the spring height on the four corners

good info
http://www.elephantracing.com/techtopic/cornerbalance.htm

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 21, 2009 - 11:20 AM

So i have tanabe df210 lowering springs, kyb gr2 in the rear, and blisten touring inserts in the front. I also have ST Sway Bars. whenever i go up a driveway on the streets or make a u-turn really sharp and fast my back rear tire lifts up alot. I was told this was normal due to stiff sway bar. If i were to get coilovers, would i be able to prevent my rear tire from lifting off the ground.

thanks for that link.

inside sunvisor? So when you have it down, from the outside people read bride? Just a suggestion.

What this man said. I drive with the windows open most of the time, and there are small specks of dust on the dash, but you can pretty much eat off mine any time. That is heresy what you've done to your interior, my friend.

And Bride headliner would be sick. If you had tan seats, I'd say fab up some Bride headrests. Oh! Cover the courtesy panel in the hatch with Bride fabric? biggrin.gif

i have too much camber lol
im getting a new setup for the upcoming auto-x season.
weighing soon!

Posted by: SwissFerdi Jan 4, 2010 - 3:30 PM

What all have you done for weight reduction, if I may ask?

I'm considering doing the same, going for a light 7A-FTE setup over a standard 3S-GTE.

Posted by: Tigawoods Jan 7, 2010 - 8:07 PM

i honestly cant remember off the top of my head. i literally havent done anything to my car since i got my rims basically.
i plan on weighing it within the next few days. and some other odds n ends.

im considering taking out the a/c but that would be a summer project so i still have time to decide

Posted by: SwissFerdi Jan 7, 2010 - 10:43 PM

Well I mean, just main points...rear seat delete, spare delete, rear plastic delete...all of the above...y'know what I mean?

Posted by: Tigawoods Jan 14, 2010 - 11:03 PM

yeah all of that
passenger seat
suspension
umm
there are a few other things for the life of me i cant remember
i will probably go for the hatch hood ac battery and a few other things here and there

so the final weight now is 2495!

weighed her today minus myself and a quarter tank of gas

Org weight from last weigh in 1 year ago 2560lbs

ok so that I get this right this is what you took out:

-Rear Seats
-Passenger Seat
-Interior Plastics-
-Spare Tire And Jack

all that equaled 2,495 pounds

So you weighed as if you were going autocross right after

Posted by: OOBE Jan 15, 2010 - 9:33 PM

haha not a fully built beams. they would be evenly matched. well maybe in power but not in torque. Im just upsessed with lightweight n/a ff cars or anything thats lightweight, that why Im not really into the 3sgte in an celica thats ff...

Tiga, I'm very impressed! I'd love to see what that car will weigh after you strip some more things off. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see some autocross numbers from next season. thumbsup.gif I may even have to hurry up and get my car swapped and lowered and head over to St. Louis and see what numbers I can't put down myself.

I want to weigh my car. Where can I do that? I mean, there are trucks in this island. I'm sure there must be a station somewhere where they have a scale. I could pay to get it weighted. Like always, we get away with paying our way through things. My car and bikes don't pass emissions. What to do? Pay $20 instead of $11 and the guy sniffes another car. tongue.gif

Posted by: Tigawoods Jan 16, 2010 - 2:38 AM

Land fills have weigh stations
basically wherever the trucks get weighed, they might allow passenger vehicles for a fee

no that my rear end is a feather ive decided that the AC will be coming out along with either a battery relocation or a lightweight battery, and then possibly windshield washer tank depending on the size....i honestly havent looked under the hood in detail in a few months
too cold

other than taking the engine out i cant think of anything else to take out of the front lol

Get plexiglass windows.

Posted by: OOBE Jan 16, 2010 - 2:58 AM

How much do you weight? You can lose a few pounds if you have extra ones you don't need. tongue.gif

Get a small alternator. Gut your hood. Gut your doors.

Posted by: Tigawoods Jan 16, 2010 - 9:47 AM

we already thought of plexiglass windows
the only one that would let a substantial amount of weight off is the hatch. the rear has enough weight of as it is already
i am 140-150
i could gain some lol
hood is as gutted as a stock hood can get without ruining the structural integrity of it
the doors and besically everything else in the front is staying, i want to keep it somewhat intact there or my gf will bitch lol

Posted by: SwissFerdi Jan 16, 2010 - 10:58 AM

That's my only problem with taking out the rear seats and plastics, etc. It biases the weight distribution even more to the front.

But that's also my attraction to a 7A-FTE setup...my car's already light, might as well not ruin that with a heavy engine. And yes, I know that heavy engine has more power...but I want handling, dammit.

removing that stuff doesnt affect handling to badly. when my car was stripped :only had driver seat and door pannels) my car felt more nimble than when it did with the interior in it

Posted by: 6gcSTVT Jan 20, 2010 - 8:20 PM

I really like the new wheels instead of those steelies you were rocking out. Keep up the good work.

I plan on getting another car for a DD (hopefully another celica) Then I will take everything out of the celica's interior including the door panels, center arm rest, the whole dash... minus the airbags, cluster and shift knob. Possibly remove AC too... But how much more weight do you think the door panels and the dash could save in weight? 20lbs?

I have autocross events in VT that I will be attending if anyone is close and wants to have fun they can come.

ALSO: its not that our women have full control of what we do but if they are happy then "WE" are happy wink.gif

Posted by: 96stgreendemon Jan 21, 2010 - 7:20 PM

^^ i will second this, my GF has bitched to no end about me spending money on my car, ha ha so im pretty much at a standstill now because like said if they are happy "WE" are happy

Posted by: Tigawoods Jan 22, 2010 - 8:55 AM

the door panels really dont weigh much at all. id say 10 for both.
youd have to take out the speakers n such to get over 20 off
id also say the glove box center console is a few pounds and some of the other things listed in the front you could take off a decent amounts
im glad ur auto-xing man! cant wait to see some results!

Hmmm you said 3........i see 2?!?!?!?!??

Blue lug nuts and valve stem?

Hmm i really did prefer the orange indicators on your car tiga. And to be honest the white toyota logo on the front bumper is really disgusting haha sorry.
But i really dig the diffuser, is it from YCM ?

I'm glad you liked it and yes it wasnt hard to fit. Looks great on your car.
Next time you're driving in the rain, take in your rear view mirror and tell me what you see.

Your car would prob look cool with a cf hood and maybe hatch.
