6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ Mak5603's Project

Posted by: mak5603 Sep 13, 2010 - 3:52 PM

I've always wanted to make a progression thread, just can never find the time to, and the more i modify my Celica, the more I wish I had one. So I decided before it gets too late or I lose all my pictures, I will post one now, right before I swap my motor. A little background info, my name is Matt, I'm 21 and my 1995 Celica GT was my first car. I've always been into cars and modified cars so as soon as I got it, there were lots of things I had planned for it. However, still being a kid had no money to fund any big projects, until I got a job...Here are some pictures of my cars evolution to the point where its as now. Enjoy smile.gif I will try and keep this as updated as I can from now on.

Here's where I started...

Just a stock black celi...

Wanted to do things, but had no money, so I painted my stock GT wheels red.

First performance mod was a v2 TRD Quick Shift Kit, was VERY happy with it, bought some GT4 spoiler blocks, while in the paint process, tried spoilerless, not my thing.

Painted my blocks myself, put em on.

If you ever are wondering USDM tail light or JDM taillight? JDM ALL THE WAY!

My winter set of wheels are those stock GT ones.
Basically, I fell in love with OEM JDM from there on, and the real transformation started. I fell in love with GT4's, learned A LOT about them, and ended up purchasing a project car (ST-165) so funds halted on the 6gc frown.gif

Winter time came and my birthday is 4 days after xmas so I got a decent chunk of cash and help getting this.

As you can see, it needed A LOT of work, but I was 100% committed to doing all the work on it myself and getting it on my car. Bought so many parts for it, got really used to seeing this.

While the work was getting done on the 4 front end, got some new wheels.

HID's too.

Front end on! And some OEM '98 skirts!

Spacers!

Like I mentioned earlier, my car is waiting on the arrival of a 3rd gen 3S-GTE motor set from _Jim_. I am extremely excited to start the swap. These are not mounted yet, but here will be what my gauge setup will look like. I also purchased an Apexi AFC NEO to be put where the cigarette lighter currently is.

Thanks for looking. smile.gif

Lovin' it. One question though. How come the ST205 bumper doesn't sit flush with the ST205 hood? Did you mold it that way?

Posted by: mak5603 Sep 13, 2010 - 7:32 PM

I dont have my hood latch extended right now, and I am using the rubber from the stock bumper, so...basically i could put washers under the bolts and not have the gap, but then I would not be able to open my hood. Its on my to do list but it works this way until I can weld an extra inch on the hood latch and I don't mind the look.

Finally got around to painting my calipers red today.

I love the look of your car from the rear. The Black, TRD badge, and tails look great.

I used to love the USDM tail and not know if I wanted the JDM, but then I got all into being different and went JDM and when I was switching em, I put one in and got so excited I had to take a picture to show to everyone who wanted to know which ones looked better, which ones in fact looked better. Glad it helped out smile.gif

Here's the painted calipers. Quick morning cell phone shots but you get the idea.

Also bought another piece for my turbo setup last night. The list keeps growing. smile.gif

LOL, this is all anyone cares about my car kindasad.gif ... Yeah, without the gap there is no way I could pop my hood, and considering I pop my hood basically daily, the gap is quite functional until i get my hood latch extended.

Thanks dude!!! ...yeah I know, I got the hood in pretty beat up condition and did all the work on it myself and when I painted my bumper I wanted to paint my hood at the same time since it wasn't my garage so it got hurried through prep and painted and I missed a couple spots. However the cars getting repainted within the next year or so, so the dent will no longer be there then...

The more I think about the trade, the better it sounds for both parties...He wants something else, something faster, I want something I can do stuff with (drifting) and something aside from AWD turbo which I will have enough of..Also his car is clean, my alltrac is cleanish but not as clean as I wish it were. Here's the AE I'm talkin about

By no means is this for sure or anything, I just talked to his friend, but I will be talking to him as soon as he gets back from vacation in mexico. My stepdad used to have an AE and despite its extreme slowness, it was a lot of fun to drive..one way or another I will prbably have one within a year or so. My plans are just coils, flushness, and 4AGZE. As my alltrac is, it will just be my project project car..since the 6gc is always the #1 project tongue.gif

Posted by: HectortheRican Oct 4, 2010 - 1:16 PM

I would definitely switch out the rims to Watanabes. And dude, an AE86 is my dream car. My dad has had his '85 AE86 since '87 so I've known it all my life. It's so much fun to drive!! Hopefully his gets passed down >:D if not... he's got a spare 4AGE block and head I could I always get creative with.. lol

Posted by: mak5603 Oct 4, 2010 - 1:31 PM

Yeah, those rims aren't my personal pref. But unlike the celica, the ae86 has some aftermarket support / there are A TON in my area and therefore lots of people open to trading and selling items on craigslist. The AE86 is definetly a great car for what it is and for its time. When I was like 14 my stepdad bought one at auction for $100. We fixed it up and he drove it for a couple years before selling it for like 20 times what he paid...haha. Really fun cars, is your dad's a coupe or hatch? modded? pics?

Posted by: HectortheRican Oct 4, 2010 - 2:40 PM

My dad's is a coupe. I prefer hatchbacks though. Uhh, I don't have any of his car, but I have one of how it looks EXACTLY. Except my dad's rims are the stock ones.

Rewiring the cig lighter to the center console is very easy. I did it this past weekend and it works great.

Yep, on the TRD Quick shifter. Got the armrest cover too.

So does the knob fit pretty flush with the ring in the boot?

Posted by: delusionz Nov 5, 2010 - 2:51 AM

looks nice dude, but please, please, please fix that bonnet latch soon, its disturbing me how if you leave the bumper part pressed in like that it may end up warping into that shape and will never line up !!!

other than that its stunning

Perfectly flush, and it's the short shifter boot. When I first got my quick shifter, I had my OEM boot and it was actually constricting my shifts, with this boot I can literally tap the knob to put it in gear.

Yeah, I still really want to do that but A.) Dont have any sort of GT4 latch, RHD or LHD and B.) I can't say I don't trust the weld method it just kind of sketches me out and I dont completely see how it would fix the issue, nor do I personally have a welder. And for the warping, I've already played with some washers and lined it up perfectly, only thing is when I line it up perfectly, I can't fit my hand in to pop the latch. And if the warping really got any worst, I've got a nice heat gun that will do the trick.

Thank you though tongue.gif

Posted by: mak5603 Nov 12, 2010 - 1:59 PM

Sneak peak of an upcoming project. Won't be going on until spring due to the fact it is starting to snow soon up here and the calipers simply won't fit my winter wheels tongue.gif. But I just got them and painted them up, LS400 4 piston calipers and GT4 rotors, hopefully they will go on around the same time as my swap, that would be ideal.

I vote for a guide (pics) of removing the calipers what paint type you used and reinstalling smile.gif for the not so mechanical hahaha

Posted by: mak5603 Dec 17, 2010 - 1:46 PM

I don't have pictures of the whole removal process and it's too cold to go outside and do it all right now, but the paint kit that I used for all of the calipers that I've painted is this one:

I like this stuff A LOT more than spray paint personally. You start off by spraying it with the included caliper cleaner, get an old toothbrush or something and really clean it off. Tape off any part you dont want paint on (pistons, bleeder things [for lack of technical term], etc.). Shake/stir paint, and begin aplying to the calipers with the brush. I personally go out and buy another brush when I use this kit as the included brush is awful and the bristles fall out extremely easily and end up trying to dry into your wet paint. Anyways, just put down a layer and it will look REALLY BAD with only one layer, don't stress, just let it dry and add another layer, and repeat until it's your desired thickness and color.

Again, I like this paint because it has ceramic in it and is very resistant to heat, brake dust, fading, chipping, etc. They are really easy to clean with this paint on as well, it coats them very nice. Many people who use spray paint end up having to repaint their calipers every couple years because of the fading, chipping, etc. So far I've never had to repaint my calipers and they still look great up close, imo.

Hope this helps you out man. smile.gif

Dude don't sell the All-trac! build it biggrin.gif I promise you that you won't drive another car like it with a few mods wink.gif Nic GTFOUR clone by the way!

Man you don't even know how bad I want to keep it but I've thought about it and this is what I came up with..

I am at this point 100% committed to keeping my 95 for life and converting it to AWD. With that being said I would have essentially two extremely similar cars, just one with more potential (the one with the 3rd gen) and better looks.

I have done some light mods here and there and really do love the car but it needs someone who doesn't have another much more costly and time consuming project going on at the same time, haha. It runs and drives but has literally been chilling in my garage so long it recently filed for a change in color code to: Dust 202, lol. Just doesn't get the attention it deserves because when it comes down to it, I just don't have that much use for it.

Final reason for the sell will have to be the fact I just want a rear wheel drive car... either E30 325is or AE86 GTS Coupe that i can beat on the drift track.

That ST165 you have there is a classic and would make a good home to your 3rd gen swap, however the st205 is the superior car.

any new pics?

Yeah, I've thought about it, I just love my 6th gen, was my first car, done all the work to it myself and what knot.

Need to go out and take some pics, I just never do cause it's so dang cold out right now! Well, that and my winter wheels are on. laugh.gif

As soon as my projectors get here though, its photo time!

Posted by: mak5603 Jan 9, 2011 - 3:18 AM

Decided instead of buying another car right now I am going to buy an E153 LSD and all of the FWD conversion parts for my 3s swap. smile.gif

Also decided most likely this summer will be dedicated to having every ding and damage cleaned up and get rid of my OEM skirts for some TRD's or 404's and mount my splitters and then paint the whole thing BMW Black pearl. Gotta get the exact paint code / name from my grandpa (His 7 series was this color) but it's a pretty sweet color.

Now for a little question. I'm leaning toward an ACT clutch from what I've read, but want to listen to everyones opinions. What clutches you guys prefer for 3s / E153 combo?

Wanted to start another project with the cash I get from selling my Trac but its almost looking like I could finish this project if I want instead... might just end up doing that.

Posted by: mak5603 Jan 11, 2011 - 12:03 PM

Got my Twos R' Us endlinks yesterday so I can finally put my ST sway bars on now. Also bought a sandwich plate for my oil pressure gauge.

If anyone could shed some light on the clutch issue above ^^ I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Matt

Posted by: 96stgreendemon Jan 12, 2011 - 9:39 PM

From what i have heard ACT is the way to go, but have fun with the sway bars, they suck..... but then you drive it and its worth it

Posted by: chacha Jan 12, 2011 - 10:27 PM

i struggled with the ST bars....make sure you take off the strut on one side at least..the rear is easier to put on then the front because of space....for the front...do the same...take off BOTH strut or coilover if you have that and then once you place the ST in...the best way to make sure they fit right is to do the one of the two bolts that are not visible on each bushing and tighten it down; then do put the visible bolt on (loosen the non-visible bolt slightly to push and adjust the bracket to the holes)...don't worry about the endlinks, they are the last step after you put the strut or coils back on..

Posted by: 96stgreendemon Jan 12, 2011 - 11:13 PM

I never had to take my struts off on front or rear

Posted by: chacha Jan 12, 2011 - 11:20 PM

yeah...you don't have too, but it makes the install for the ST much easier...besides struts are easy to be put back. gives a little more room to slide

Just gave her a wash in preparation for my projectors which later came. These are the wheels I run in the winter with Michelin Ice 2's. My spoiler is off because I am putting some new bolts in the blocks, I personally don't like the look, maybe if my splitters were on... oh well it won't be off for long. Last shots without projectors, yay!

Here's the JDM hotness, already installed them biggrin.gif Will snap some pics tomorrow probably.

Its on my to do list but it works this way until I can weld an extra inch on the hood latch and I don't mind the look.

I never said I don't work on my car in the cold. That would be near impossible in Washington. I did however mention I just got them three days ago, in those three days, all of which I also worked until 8 PM, I only felt like installing the projectors, not modding them yet partially due to the cold, partially due to the fact it is dark, and I just worked 10 hours...not really an excuse...

No clue where you can find em online. H&R only sells these ones through vendors and only few vendors carry this size / lug pattern. But they are the ones with extended studs, so bolt the spacer to the existing studs, bolt the wheel to the spacer studs. People can say what they want but I had multiple bearings go out on me BEFORE I got spacers and since I've gotten them my hub area has been good to go. Even if my bearings do go out sooner, it takes like 2 hours including the time to get them pressed to fix it...and its COMPLETELY worth it, sunken in wheels are THE WORST.

Front fenders are factory rolled. Yeah, you will have to roll rears, there is some rubbing although it may be different with your coil overs because of the stiffness? I don't know, you will more than likely still need to roll the rears, but its totally worth it. Your stance would look SICK! I wish I had coils...

Did some small stuff over the last week. Installed some Volvo washer jets which are amazing. The old ones are like weak squirt guns squirting your wind sheild and honestly it didn't even clean good or cover enough area for de icing purposes..these ones are like arcing mist and cover like the whole windsheild biggrin.gif . Then I put on some clear sides and front indicators. Here's some pics from a local toyota get together I was at yesterday:

Volvo part # 30655606

Super easy, just take the old ones out, and put the new ones in.

Posted by: HectortheRican Feb 23, 2011 - 7:48 PM

Interesting... how much did they run if you don't mind me asking?

Posted by: mak5603 Feb 23, 2011 - 10:36 PM

£30 GBP, like around $40-$50.

Posted by: HectortheRican Feb 23, 2011 - 11:02 PM

Damn, that ain't bad. After reading your description, I might get me a set.

Posted by: chacha Feb 23, 2011 - 11:11 PM

wow...that's expensive...here at the dealership..it cost 12 bucks...but downside is they have to order it from the warehouse.

I plan to put one on the rear as a replacement but i don't know how high it will shoot if it'll be right on the windshield...do you think that nozzle will shoot off too low or too high for the rear (if you go a hatchback or lift-back)....can you test the volvo nozzle for the rear?

Posted by: mak5603 Feb 23, 2011 - 11:33 PM

Yeah, it was a lot because I couldn't originally find the part # because I don;t know the technical term and I was getting frustrated so I just typed in something like "volvo wind shield jet" and these came up, the only pair of OEM ones with no neon or anything. Basically it was a third party seller of the OEM part and it was in Europe so originally I saw the price and thought it was US then when I realized it was pounds I just wanted them so bad I got them anyways, haha.

Yeah I will definitely try it on the rear as I want a new rear one too. It should work, the front ones aim pretty low but wide and cover the width of the wind shield which is really nice, if it works good maybe we can go halves on a rear one from a Volvo dealer now that I got the part #?

Posted by: chacha Feb 24, 2011 - 3:37 AM

im fine with that...i just called them up...i figure since you got them for the fronts...it should be easy for you to just test fit them to see how they play out on the rear...my just drizzle water down, it doesn't even spray anymore; what's worst is, it stopped working, probably clogged up, but i figure the hole is the same as the front for the hood and from the looks of the nozzle...they all seem to be the same (might as well replace the worn rear nozzle too). I was just worried about the height the nozzle would spray for the volvo nozzle. let me know

Posted by: mak5603 Feb 24, 2011 - 12:53 PM

Yeah same with my rear one. I'll check it as soon as it stops snowing. tongue.gif

Posted by: mak5603 Mar 1, 2011 - 1:19 AM

Sorry Chacha, still haven't gotten around to fitting the washer jet to my rear washer yet.

I received my TRD rain deflector for GT4 hood a few days ago. I went with black anodized and today added my own personal touch. Also did some work on my motor and took a lot of parts for cleaning etc. Was a pretty good day.

Here's a pic of what I did to my rain deflector, didn't get pics of it installed but will tomorrow. I think it looks awesome on the car.

No big updates on the car really, but I have been doing things to prepare my motor. The intercooler is off and I peeled the "Toyota 2000 Twin Entry Turbo" sticker off and sanded that bad boy down as I am going to have it airbrushed by my girlfriend's mom's boyfriend. My valve cover and intake manifold have also been taken off and cleaned up for painting as well as all of the covers around the turbo manifold and downpipe. The stock downpipe has also been taken off as I am putting on my Berk DP. Yesterday, I also ordered some tune up parts which should hopefully be coming sometime within the next week. I guess once I have more stuff together and more pics, I will probably make a forced induction build thread...

Also purchased some 404 sides which I will be putting on with my splitters pretty soon here. Plan is coilovers after the swap, so hopefully before summer.

Got an s2000 antenna as well, but don't have any pics yet, I will have to do that this weekend sometime.

Haven't posted here for awhile because I've been busy with everything in the world besides my Celica. The longer it take for my swap to get here, the less I feel motivated to continue working on the Celica..However, that being said, I did recently pick up a set of coilovers that will be installed sometime before summer. I love my Celica so much and can see it's potential but can't thoroughly enjoy it with no 3s..

My goals for this summer were to get coilovers, get my motor in, get every smidgen of body damage fixed, and hopefully some paint. That in coordination with selling my Alltrac and finding an s13 coupe to purchase and daily while my Celica gets its makeover. S13 will hopefully be a 1jz drift car next summer but that's another story for another time.

Everything seems on track right now so long as Jim can get me the remainder of the parts I ordered from him soon.

rain deflector looks great,

i like the gauge cluster conversion, nice touch in a US Celica I could imagine,

hey what did you do with the spoiler? it looks like you shaved off gt-four is that what you did? or is it just too hard to see in pics?

Nope, you're seeing it right. My blocks are shaved.

Thanks for the compliments. smile.gif

Good man, I hate seeing GT4 on FWD Celicas.

Btw don't expect that boost gauge to tell you anything, except that manifold pressure changed 2 seconds ago. Lol

Hey mN dont beat yourself uo over it and make sure u take your time with thr mods u put on. I bought my celica and it took me 3 months to get my celica running onto to the road after suspension set ups wheels engine maintrnance and it just felt like the never ending story. I know ur situation must be harder since ur doing a swap. If u rush things while your frustrated you could make mistakes and it will cost u more money in the long run. Ive been there done that and put more money into the celica than i should of.

Everything is looking good so far biggrin.gif

Edit: Totally posted previous post in the wrong thread.

Tried putting my coilovers on with no air tools the other day and got one of the fronts in, but the passenger side lower strut bolts are literally like welded in...so I need air tools. But hopefully soon my car will be slammed. Also plan on getting some wider spacers in the rear, as lame as that is. Rediculous offset FWD wheels suck! But it will look sick!

Did you try a 3 foot break bar? That's what I used on my insanely stuck strut bolts and they came off like butter.

Not 3 foot, but I pb blasted, torched, and literally broke a 2 foot breaker bar trying it, and this was after I had to literally jump on the breaker bar for the other side, haha. I've done suspension on a few cars and this was def the most stuck I've seen. I just gotta go buy an intense impact wrench I guess.

Really sucks, I want my stance now! Haha.

How's the car coming along? Did you have a chance to fit the 404's on there? Mine fit like crap, looks like i will have to do a lot more fiddling to get mine to work well.

Looking forward to seeing some pics soon biggrin.gif

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 18, 2011 - 3:05 PM

It's been going pretty good, just trying to clean up a lot of the stuff I have at the moment. Still haven't fitted my 404's or painted my splitters, they aren't too high on the priority list currently, kind of waiting till the car has more down time, probably during my swap or something.

Been doing lots of work on the Audi and getting my Alltrac ready to sell, my 6gc just sits there and soaks up money like a sponge.. I'm trying to get it all ready for the big Toyota meet next month. Kind of sad my motor won't be in for it, but there is always next year for that!

She's getting there slowly. I'm just going over her looking for little things to fix while I wait to move. I don't want to start my swap until I get to Florida in the fall. I'm just saving up for it at this point. I got the car tinted recently and it looks good. I've got to get my skirts to fit better and the exterior will be almost done (except for paint).

I really dig the look of your stock skirts. I have always been torn between keeping my 404's or going with the stock ones. They just look so simple and clean I love it. My front lip flows a bit better with the 404's though so I keep them around. I just need to get them to fit better, the part behind the driver door won't stay stuck to the car with the double sided tape since the fitment is lined up well enough. Looks like that will be my next project when I can push the vette out of the garage for a few days.

Haven't posted here because all of my progress has been going towards my st165 lately.

However, I took my 6gc to a car control clinic yesterday, and afterwards I had a chance to shred on the track (pacific raceways). Oh man it was soo much fun. Lotta understeer though, Lol!

update?

Posted by: mak5603 Oct 14, 2011 - 10:55 PM

I've doing lots of little stuff here and there, just haven't updated. I work 6 days a week and go to college so no time for any major updates, unfortunately. Plus, snowboarding season is coming soon! So just got a new board, jacket, goggles, etc. so very few funds left for the Celicas for now. tongue.gif

I was spending a lot of time on my alltrac but unfortunately the notorious hose from hell burst and I have yet had the time to fix it, so no alltrac for now. frown.gif

Some of the stuff recently:

Went 5mm wider in the rear,
cooling panel,
Carbon fiber hood struts.

Posted by: mak5603 Apr 11, 2012 - 5:10 PM

Wowzers, long time no post. Lol, it's funny because my last update was at the beginning of snowboarding season, and now this post comes as snowboarding season comes to a close.. Wonder why? tongue.gif Between that and going to class to obtain my Aerospace Assembly Mechanic Certification I've had little time for the celi. But the sun finally came out so I brought my spring/summer/fall wheels out of storage and threw my coilovers on. I already posted pics in the "official" pic thread but figured I may as well update the progress (if that's what you want to call it laugh.gif) in this thread.

They're D2 coilovers and I am still using my +25mm spacers in front and +30mm spacers in the rear. Fenders are obviously rolled. I haven't really messed with them much since I installed, because it's been kind of crappy out. So I just wanted to put them on and slam it for now, haha.

Anyways..

(That's a tail of the new Boeing 787 in the background. Made completely of Carbon Fiber and a little bit of Titanuim! Made up here at the Everett, WA factory.)

I guess it's a little bit lower than stock height cars...

Haha, no the roads aren't anything exceptional. I can get to work and back with only a coiple minor exhaust scrapes, but some of my recreational activity routes need to be altered for sure, lol!

Posted by: 95CelicaST Apr 12, 2012 - 5:02 PM

I was going to say... You're brave to have it so low on our roads.... unforgiving, they are.

It isn't bumpers bottoming out that I worry about though - my tires bottom out into the fender long before my bumper drags.

Posted by: mak5603 Apr 12, 2012 - 5:57 PM

Super unforgiving. It's pretty scary driving on some roads, I need to fix a couple things if I'm going to end up keeping it anywhere near this height, lol.

Posted by: 95CelicaST Apr 12, 2012 - 6:07 PM

Mr. Two is too herrafrush for that level of ride height. I cringe enough on my drive to and from work - I don't want any more scariness.

My co-worker wants me to do this with my Celica. I just got my new rims on today and I'm already dodging potholes and areas that Rochester construction decided to just... cut out of the road. No thanks on that low. I like having an oil pan.

Posted by: mak5603 Apr 13, 2012 - 3:54 PM

I can't quite tell, does this look negative to you guys? tongue.gif

So I sold my Alltrac the other day frown.gif . Fortunately it was to a really good friend of mine that I know for a fact will take care of it and only make it better. He already has great plans for it and is an experienced Toyota tech and has had a few MR2s and is very familiar with 3sgte's. He's just looking for a boss daily so he can park his drift steed for awhile.

I would be more sad, but ultimately I intend on making my 6th gen the same thing just 7+ years newer, so its not that bad..

Thinking about getting something boss.. biggrin.gif

How to: Light Detail of Undercarriage:

Step 1: Slam car!

Step 2: Find clean fresh patch of grass.

Step 3: Drive in it and reverse out (repeat as needed).

Process should look something like this tongue.gif :

UGH! I want new wheels SO bad!

I'm going to find some cool spots to take pictures at real soon.

I got some Bridgestone Poenzas mounted today. My buddy works at a shop so we used a lift. The only way to get my car on a lift is to jack the front and rear up and swing the arms in. This picture is my car on the lift at its minimum height! LOL!

And here are a couple cell phone pics I took from the Scion FRS release event I attended. I got put next to a Skyline. smile.gif

I really like them so far. Much more performance oriented then the stupid Kuhmos that I had on before. Only bummer is I need to "re work in" the part of the tire that the fenders rub on when I turn, haha. My old tires were at the point where they rarely ever rubbed.

Can't wait to put some more miles and more twistys on them!

Posted by: kurt95gt May 19, 2012 - 11:59 AM

I like mine till its raining. Then they suck
i feel like im driving on a slip n slide
But they get amazing grip on drive pavement

Posted by: mak5603 May 21, 2012 - 11:30 PM

I'm not quite sure what kind of rain you are dealing with, but today in Washington (I'm pretty sure we are the rain kings) the roads were looking like a slip and slide and my tires were gripping great! (lol 5s)

For wet and dry, Bridgestone Potenzas I approve. thumbsup.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt May 21, 2012 - 11:52 PM

Maybe its just me but mine slipped like crazy in the rain
An that was with the coupe so 5s power too lol

Posted by: mak5603 May 22, 2012 - 12:10 AM

Haha, Im not saying I couldn't if I wanted, but comparitively speaking to at least my old tires they were great. I don't know, despite my slam, my car car has a pretty good suspension setup. But I was really testing it out today on some tricky roads in the rain, and despite its 221,000 miles, I push this 5s to the max. Afterall, my 3s is just chillin in my storage unit waiting to get the call up to the big leagues.

Posted by: kurt95gt May 22, 2012 - 12:22 AM

I went from a toyo something( startex with a p) to the them an they seemed to get alot less grip in the rain
I beat on my 5s on a daliy basis lol 187,000 an just keeps goin
Plus im riding on s techs with bad struts. So its hard telling
I loved them on the 1mz hatch for the 23 mile i drove it

Posted by: kurt95gt May 22, 2012 - 11:59 PM

Looking at pics of you car make me miss being super slammed as you put it frown.gif
I really need coilovers

Posted by: mak5603 May 23, 2012 - 12:31 AM

Do it man!

I need to raise mine to look better honestly.. It just isn't worth it until I get better wider wheels, without them it won't have the same effect.. So for now I'm just staying slammed.

Still handles great!

Posted by: kurt95gt May 23, 2012 - 8:39 AM

Once the 1mz is running right coilovers in on the list

Posted by: mak5603 May 23, 2012 - 11:26 PM

Was browsing around and found some old pictures of my car. Man, I remember how happy this car used to make me! Proud to say that hasn't changed one bit!

Since I am no pro photographer, my photos are always the same angles and lame backgrounds (I'm working on it!) so I decided it would kind of be fun to compare my car 5 years ago and today..

But yes it does need tint.. Just honestly I don't much enjoy driving with tint. I don't like looking in the side mirrors with the windows up or in the rearview, at night especially. I know this because my Audi has tint, haha.

Something I have been thinking about for a long time. Probably when I get new wheels.

Finally got around to painting and putting my splitters on. Sometimes I don't think the OEM skirts are aggressive enough for the splitters on some applications, but honestly I feel like they match great on my car for some reason, maybe they just look good in person or something, ha. Sooooooooo........

I went out to raise my rear and ended up just testing out an idea that I've had for awhile with some big spacers I had laying around that I thought wouldn't work so well.. but did, so basically now the 30mm from the rear went up front and went fatter in the rear.. so, yay wider all around. Not what I wanted (fat spacers), still want wider wheels, but I'm satisfied for now. Still going to raise up the rear a half inch to inch or so. I'm just rollin around with it literally about as flush as you can get in the rear for now though, haha.

Also, next up on my list is a new exhaust, got a SICK idea and going to get rid of the retarded sh!t I have right now, finally! Thank God!

Damn, thanks man! Honestly, there isn't a huge Honda scene around me. Well there is, but they are all into their own lame things, haha. Lots of drifting around where I am so I can definitely say my styling is very "drift scene" influenced. Lots of clean 240's, rx7's, corollas, etc. rolling around with boss stances. Basically I just wanted to see that stance on a GT4 body because it has always been one of my favorite looking cars.

Its weird being back stateside sometimes cuz basicly the "HellaFlush" trend is basicly the VIP Car trend. But Americans call it HellaFlush, My opinion its all pretty cool if done right like our boy mak has done.

This on the other hand is an absolute discrase to tuners everywhere n not cuz its a Honda, but because it looks unfinished, and down right lazy.

Mak good on u for atleast taking the time to visualize ur build first and for the love a god for adding the splitters to help finish off the look. Granted Im a bodykit crack head and all of 6gc knows it, lol. But I can reaspect a good lip kit as well. So thank u sir, lol

Oh yeah, and I did raise my car 7/10 of an inch in the rear today! Looks waaaay better now.

And Andrew, I gave my spare set of 25's to my buddy that I sold my alltrac to because I was tired of having a sunken battleship in my driveway everytime he came over, haha. Sorry man.

How is it raised? Because I physically raised it... If that was the look that I wanted that would be how much I would raise it.. It takes about 15 minutes per corner so I can adjust whenever I want. And yes, I have seen Timmy's car. I like it A LOT. Timmy is on 18's so his car looks higher than mine but in reality we are only about a half inch apart.. Someday I want wide 18's too, and my car will look that 1 inch higher that you like.

It's cool with me if people would like to think my suspension is blown, its not.. Those people just clearly don't get coilovers or the style that I am going for which immediately makes me not care too much what they think about MY car. I'm not going for some sleeper/ race car/ boring dd/ what all the other 99.99% of drivers on the road are going for. Im going for a flashy, clean, aggressive, gt4 clone with as little space between the fenders and wheels as possible while still being operable.

Doesn't mean that I don't respect your opinion its just that it's your opinion, and that is what your car is for. I think cars of all sorts of styles are cool.

Just bought my new exhaust! I'm pretty stoked, hope it gets here fast!

Really wanted to wait for my 3s for this but I just can't stand the pos that's on my car right now and need to get rid of it asap.

For the last 2 years I have had an HKS Carbon TI muffler which I was planning on running. It is such an awesome exhaust, especially if you like carbon fiber touches.. But, it is huuuuge, so huge it ultimately came down to the decision that it wouldn't last long under my car due to its vast size.. And I kind of fell out of the style of it, I want something a little less big.. So I sold it to a friend.

Anyways, brings me to the new setup. For the longest time I have been running my stock 5s exhaust manifold with a cat and 2.5" piping all the way back with no resonator. I really like the sound of it and I know my new setup is going to be LOUD but hopefully not too bad with the aforementioned stock manifold and cat.. If it is I'll probably add a resonator.

So, I'm going to expand to 3" at the tip, but fully convert to 3" with the 3s.

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 2, 2012 - 7:10 PM

Lol, so my suspension is completely settled at this point, and now needs to be slightly raised once again. Good thing I get free alignments smile.gif. Guess you could say it rubs a bit, lol what kind of tires are those? laugh.gif This is what happened when I tried to drive with 3 people in the car..

So this is kind of irrelevant but I figured I'd share it anyways. Was actually a couple weekends ago, but I got the opportunity to attend an event with my Dad where we were able to drive a few top end Jaguars. I got to drive an XK-R and XF on a track they had setup (I had the fastest lap time for my time group when I left wink.gif). I also got to drive an XJ-L, which is their luxury model on some local roads, which was amazing. They have SO MANY OPTIONS! Last but not least I got to drive an XK-RS, which there are only 300 of in the world, 100 in North America. All of the cars were using 5.0L V8 Supercharged motors ranging from about 450 HP to 550 HP with amazing handling and brakes to go with. What amazing cars.

Anyways, here's the XK-RS

And the XJ-L

I also received my exhaust this past week. Pretty stoked to put it on. And, yeah. I DO know that it is going to be loud. I love the way it looks how I have it planned in my head. I REALLY fell out of love with the way any kind of "can" exhaust looks, so I thought I would do something unique. Will sound so epic with my 3S biggrin.gif.

And just for fun.

Haha, no, not stuck at all. Was no scraping whatsoever to park in that spot smile.gif. Just wanted to snap a pic with my new phone. Also thought the comparison with the monster truck in the background was kind of funny.

For the exhaust, I am replacing my muffler with that, correct.

Posted by: celica74 Jul 2, 2012 - 8:25 PM

yep. loud it shall be

Posted by: ricochet1490 Jul 3, 2012 - 10:12 AM

my idea nearly exactly with that exhaust for the beams.... 3sge/gte duals ftw

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 3, 2012 - 1:24 PM

Yeah, it shall be sick!

Im speaking with a local fabricator and we are going to try out some different ways to fit it. Honestly at this point, I am considering making a small exhaust cutout in my bumper and tilting it up slightly and possibly outward a couple inches as well. Going to see how I can get it to look without the cutout too. But as much as I don't want to cut my bumper, in my mind it will probably look the best. Kind of how aero kits on drift cars have exhaust cutouts, but not quite as drastic.

Posted by: celica74 Jul 3, 2012 - 4:30 PM

center it out of the bumper? or mold something to the bumper to make it lower to level out the exhaust. sorry throwing out ideas. thatd be alot of work.

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 3, 2012 - 4:45 PM

Not going to center. Will come out the regular exhaust side on Celicas.

Making a lip would be sweet, but I like the splitters and would have to remove them. But yeah, that would be sweet. Pretty sure Diegohiga's custom lip has an exhaust cutout iirc, I would love something like that, but I would rather have a fiberglass or urethane removable lip as opposed to something permanent.

Theres this, but I'm not particularly fond of it.. And Chaser Aero fits like sh!t.

Hmm, like I said, still conjuring ideas in my head, haha.

My buddy and I just got done playing some disc golf and the sun was just setting, so I decided to snap a picture on the way back to the cars. His is a twin turbo T-top model Z32. Pretty soon we will both be rocking the isis dual tip that I just got, only he will have quad tips biggrin.gif.

Got my exhaust welded on! I spent awhile deciding how I wanted it to be mounted, and am very happy with how it turned out. It looks way better in person, pics don't really do it much justice imo. So sorry for the pic overload, I tried capturing it at a couple decent angles.

Looks pretty OEMish from behind wink.gif.

How does it sound

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 12, 2012 - 4:48 PM

I like it a lot, a bit deeper and a bit louder. Going to sound even better when I go full 3 inch with my 3sgte. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Lil-Joe101 Jul 12, 2012 - 4:50 PM

Nice, I think Im the only one that's staying with 2.5" tongue.gif

Thank you! I'm extremely happy it came out the way I envisioned. Was kind of hard since it seems like all of the other cars that go with this style exhaust have exhaust cutouts in their bumper or aero bumpers to add to the effect or the company makes the full exhaust for them so the exit is already "chosen" where as I bought just the tips. It took me like 15-20 minutes just lining it up to be welded because I wanted it to look a certain way, like I said, I'm glad it came out the way it did.

I'll still say it doesn't look nearly as good in these pics as in person.

I'll get some sound clips soon also.

So, I went to make a sound clip and the only sound my phone vid camera could capture is idle, everything else just sounds crackly, haha. So I either gotta find a new camera or step up to drivebys, I'll figure something out!

Drive bys are the best. Only if tripple digits are involved! Kidding. Dont speed. Its illegal.

So this is nothing exciting, but like I said all I could capture was idle sound. Decided to post because I think it sounds cool, haha.

Welcome. I just hope your roads are a lot better than the ones I have.

Posted by: mak5603 Jul 27, 2012 - 1:03 PM

Not really, lol. Washington roads suck and there is ALWAYS construction.

But Im very good at this point at "slammed driving". Its basically like a never ending first person game of guitar hero switching various difficulty levels the different places and speeds I go, haha. Always have to be looking ahead and super attentive.

Some roads, I just don't even try. Sometimes I'll have to take a like 5 minute detour or park in a lot next to one I can't get in and walk, but it's really not bad. I always leave for places a bit early anyways.

When you're riding through the city, you gotta be low and slow.

Whats up?! Its been awhile! I've pretty much been taking a break from the "car game" lately because I have been so busy with work (swing shift, bleh kindasad.gif) but been doing some small things here and there. Also in the process of getting a place with a 1500 sq. ft. garage so my motor is on the hopefully soon to do list, lol also some new shoes.

So not much has changed in the last almost year. Still slammed as **** wink.gif. A few months ago i got backed into in a parking lot twice AT THE SAME TIME by two high, idiot teens (who were friends, dafuq). Gt4 bumper ruined frown.gif. Their insurance is covering it but they can't repair my bumper because of the damage on the corner and have yet to find a replacement. So if anyone has a hook on a gt4 bumper, let me know!

Here's a couple random pics i've taken kinda lately, sorry for dirtyness, the car got about negative 3 washes this winter kindasad.gif.

Took spoiler off for a little.. Only like it from like one or two angles, but meh.

Here is the damage frown.gif

Lol oil change pic, why not.

I have to re-do my exhaust before I can go that low. It scrapes on everything right now and sits 2" above the ground. Car sits around 5", so as soon as I tuck it up more, car can go lower.

Posted by: mak5603 Aug 12, 2013 - 6:41 PM

Well guys, I have mixed emotions as i write this post, but here goes..

I just got a new car! It's a 2006 BMW Dinan S1 330i (E90) with sport/premium/cold weather packages, 6 speed manual transmission, one owner, 60,000 miles!

Needless to say I am super stoked, but am sad to say it is now the Celica's time to go. I had a lot of fun with it and learned a ton being my first car and all, and I will always miss the attention that it gets. But basically I am going to need to start looking for a home for her. I would love to sell it whole but honestly, I think it is more worth my while to part the car out as there are for sure some parts other people would enjoy and I don't think anyone would buy this car with 235000 mile motor/chassis and bad paint for anywhere near what I would like to get.

So that being said, I would like to know if anybody is interested in some parts off my car. Any parts. Motor included, both the used 5s and 19,000 mile 3s. I also have 4 trannys, s53,s54,e154f,e153 w/lsd. Every part in my profile will eventually be available. I can make a more formal post later as well as add a list of what will be available.

Im not 100% sure when I am tearing into it but I just wanted to gauge some interest in the parts before I start making it official.

It would be easiest if you just post in this thread as my pm's are usually full, but i will try to empty them.

Thank you guys!

I know, I never intended on selling it and honestly wouldn't if I had a place to keep it and all my parts for it.

Naw, it's a 4 door. My preference was a 2 door for sure (was also looking at e46 330ci's and e36 M3's) but I just couldn't pass this beauty up.

Ill make an off topic post soon. I gotta get some like 19x9.5 front, 19x10.5 rears asap!

Psh, I liked it more than the celica before I even started the car. Exterior is beautiful, interior is amazing, 280hp to the crank and awesome handling with the Dinan suspension upgrades. And rear wheel drive! I am seriously in love with this car biggrin.gif.

I know, 4 doors is going to be weird getting used to. I'd love to supercharge, but that's the one kind of ****ty thing. Bmw only made the e90 330i in 06. After that they did only the 335's (forced induction) and 328's. So the engine in my car was only made 1 year and although it is a great engine there is not that much aftermarket stuff for it aside from the Dinan upgrades it already has. Perhaps i could make a custom kit somewhere down the road, but for now I like this car where it is at aside from wheels tongue.gif .

Yeah, after a certain point I stopped caring at all, haha. You know you are at that point when you bang frame or scrape really bad and your first reaction is just a smile and laugh. I love driving a slammed car tongue.gif .

To my understanding TRD made a quickshift kit and then later revised and made a quickshift kit v2 so to say that was an even shorter throw than the other. This is the "v2" one. Either way, it is a genuine TRD quickshift kit.

Means a lot that my car will remain on the list biggrin.gif It honestly makes me feel really good that other people like what I worked so hard to get to, and hopefully it all won't be forgotten, I certainly will never forget this car.

Yep, pods and hatch plastic will have your name on them when the time comes and the coilovers as well if you would like them. I say if you would like them because you will more than likely have to do as I did when I purchased them and that is replace the struts. You don't HAVE to, but I would recommend it as my ride height and stiffness have kind of done work to these ones. One of them is blown and I think one other on its way out, other 2 seem fine, but still might be worth replacing. I have been driving on them like they are, so you could, but replacements are easy to get and only like $125 per corner. Then you have a fresh set of coils, thats what I did when I bought these.
