I love that steering wheel lol if you EVER change it I call dibs on it!!!! I had one like that in my 2009 Cobalt SS Turbo and loved it to death. My Celica has the nice 3spoke steering wheel but not that sexy leather, i needz to find me one lol.

wink.gif just move to Western Canada and you can have almost anything 15 years or older available to be imported. If I had the coin I'd be all over a GT-4.

Posted by: JuMPiiN Aug 16, 2010 - 12:51 AM

Move to Canada.... live there for at least a year... wait a minimum of 4 months just to get the thing shipped over... then figure out a way to get it registered and get a title.... way easier said than done.

I know of 3+ GT-4's locally for sale that are already landed/titled/ready to be insured. 1 in very MINTY condition and is for sale on this forum as well, the other 2 are in decent shape and with a little elbow grease they would be monsters. And if you moved to Canada there is no reason why you cannot apply for a local drivers license within the first week of moving here. After that there is zero reason you cannot get local registration/insurance and own any 15 year old imported vehicle.

Posted by: FORGMANN Aug 16, 2010 - 7:58 AM

It was almost easier than buying a car in the states but this was done years ago and things have changed
since. One key point is car was brought in as parts car so i with paperwork pre done and taxes paid i was
only at border 15 mins to get inspected and had no issues.

lolz when I saw the pictures that's the first thing that popped into my mind, say it's a parts car and deal with the rest later.

Yea Untill your local Vehicle inspections unit inspect you and get you for seatbelts not DOT approved, head and tail lights not DOT approved, wrong standard of glass and all this other crap that realy doesn't make a difference but they still make it so you can't insure your car.

I dunno about where you are, but in manitoba, they have been going crazy with that, posting there units on local cruise nights just bust street racers, which aren't even driving the RHD cars.
My buddy has an s14 silvia, he's had it for months now and he still can't get it to pass a manioba safety because no shop will touch rhd cars all because these inspection units have been giving out crazy tickets and going back to the shops they were saftied at.

And to the OP, how did you managed to import a car, in 03, that was not 15 years old?

Posted by: FORGMANN Aug 16, 2010 - 10:32 PM

Car was buried in a 40 ft trailer and listed as 2 clips . Had a 96 mr2 hanging above it.
Had 0 issues getting to canada. This was years before rush of popular jdm cars and not
sure it would be as easy now.

My opinion on Canada is this , people are great , Govt is horrible, I can't stand big brother
type Govt. I live in midwest so no one here cares about RHD car or what is or
isnt DOT. Im 36 so i won't be hanging out much ,so no worries there. We have
0 inspections on anything so bye bye oem cat downpipe.

Going to frame shop soon..more pics to come

I'm in Alberta, we get away with a fair amount but damn I had no idea about all that DOT crap........that sucks!!!!

Posted by: yarik83 Aug 17, 2010 - 5:56 AM

Please forgive me but all these past 6 years I thought that you had a running gt4 that you drove on the streets. I remember you popping up every once in a while to post pictures. What car were you taking pictures of?

Posted by: rave2n Aug 17, 2010 - 8:15 AM

South Carolina has no inspections, and what we call kit cars. Application process for the kit car is simple, and cheap. You do have to have a DMV agent check it out, but they are only looking for receipts to confirm nothing is stolen. RHD is also no problemo to drive here, seen atleast 3 within the last month.

Insurance can be acquired with no inspection of the vehicle in SC as well.

Guys drive around here with just frames of a vehicle, and big arse engines mounted on the back. Just have to have proper signaling equipment.

Now the border process I'm unaware of, and having it checked out by a Canadian friend. Hopefully I hit the lotto =P

--------

On topic - Lucky lucky you, nice GT4. I'm slightly confused on the span of time taken, but either way...its a GT4!

Its good that you did not because this was already covered in about 3000 same exact posts

Months later and progress is still SLOOOOOWWWWWWW! Sadly my body guy also have his own
stable of Toyota project cars 85 AE86 GTS Loaded,88 MK1 S/C,91 ALL-TRAC,93T MR2 W/14,000 MILES
and all red . The part i hate the most is he paid 2500 tops for all 4 cars.. none were wrecked just
weird issues that landed them in insurance auctions 10 years ago.

Just bought Black Beams clip from RPM GARAGE (yes i know) and got it for well under what he wanted for
it as i knew him when he lived in Chicago. Not a big fan of shipping from Hong Kong but i wanted a mint
clip and even with fees etc. still not much more than EBAY Beams motor. I ordered a lot of extra parts
as this is going to be full on authentic Beams st202 including RHD.I am using RHD parts to keep wiring and
etc oem as possible. Plus already owning a ST205 i know all the dumb little parts needed for swap and to
make authentic. Would have prefered to just buy a real st202 Beams but much easier to do it the hard way
if that makes sense.lol

This will be a ground up chassis build and body will be redone and painted and rust proofed again. All suspension
will be coated in POR15 as well as poly bushings and new bearings in hubs.

So far here is what already have for Beams
TRD superstrut coilovers
TRD strut brace
hypersports celica mats
TRD carbon radio trim (may install in st205 instead)
SS3 skirts (all 6) bought entire set for $38 in japan!!
Recaro confetti seats F/R and oem Toyota Recaro rails
TRD short shifter
Rear molded Celica cargo tray
rear strut brace with leather and strut covers
JDM tails
door sills and plates
More on the way when clip/container arrives !

So by end of summer hopefully have a 2 JDM white Celicas. st205 and st202. Now why i need 2 RHDs at my age is beyond me.
Guess after 20yrs of modding imports just want to finish with 2 unique cars.

NICE! Can't wait for the finished product!

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Apr 3, 2011 - 11:58 PM

your going to keep the superstrut suspension and transfer it over to the project car?? with used trd coilovers?? are you going to get the coilovers rebuilt???

Posted by: salv Apr 4, 2011 - 12:10 AM

LOL did you buy the rear recaro seats off RPM Garage? I put a bid in but I guess you bought it out!?

Nice builds man looking forward to the end results smile.gif

Posted by: FORGMANN Apr 4, 2011 - 7:16 AM

Trd coilovers are easy to rebuild as basically
it is a kyb insert inside that is why chose over
Tein ,etc...

Yes i will be using superstrut and every other
bolt on clip.

No didnt offically buy backseat. He wont budge under
300 and paid way less for last one. He might of pulled
and put with my container

Posted by: CoreyST Apr 4, 2011 - 8:43 AM

I was just looking into getting a GT4 from canada over here. I've found two that Ica nget a hold of, I jsut gotta check with local DMV to see what I can do about getting it titled and such.

Can't wait to see the beams swap.

naw man no freagin way is it a regular KYB GR-2 Strut Cartridge. I called the toyota dealer who deals with Jap TRD parts and he said it would be $350 or so a cartridge, so you know that they are not just any kyb shocks cartridges

Posted by: blackthunder Apr 8, 2011 - 12:17 AM

man all this talk about importing and such yet sadly never any concrete info. I'm just chillin here in Japan with my BEAMS itching to go back to the states with no good leads on how to make it happen. I guess It is a little different bringing a running car back and not a clip or parts car >.<

that's the biggest one, gettting it registered, grats on getting it done! no issues with getting a VIN and all that I take it? nice! *sigh* I hope Oregon is as lax...

Posted by: FORGMANN Apr 10, 2011 - 7:39 AM

Like i always say biggest issue is getting into country then many ways to title and register
Been importing parts for almost 20yrs so seen and heard all kinds of stories..

As far as KYB i am not hardcore about getting exact same insert and besides it will be
overpriced anyway. I will get around to looking into but priority is building car(s) first.
I am sure KYB japan has a similar part for cheaper than rebranded TRD stuff. I have
Superstrut, strut and mr2 TRD coilovers all in need of inserts so will need my attention
just not right now

I just sent my last mr2 parts car (#7) to scrap and now room for celica and will be
stripping down this week. Progress on one car at least..

ANY COMMENTS ON IMPORTING PLEASE FIND APPROPRIATE THREAD THRU SEARCH ..

I've searched, don't worry and I wasn't trying to hijack your thread, my bad wink.gif

It sounded like you had a great steal of the set for only 38 till I saw how much you paid for shipping, ouch! At least they will look good though and I will be interested in seeing how your car turns out, keep it up man.

Posted by: 96ST206 Apr 21, 2011 - 11:47 PM

I love the 2 RHD cars idea. I had 2 before it was nice to have them both. I know I'll prob get flamed but I've searched and searched, and I thought you couldn't tow a car across the US/CAN border without customs paperwork.

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 23, 2011 - 6:54 PM

Ok time for the old man to update this thread.

Bought a GT from fellow member from VA
This car will become SS-3 project ..

Couldn't wait so added parts had sitting around.
Recaro SR3 confetti seats with Toyota Recaro rails for ST20#
Rear jdm cargo tray
jdm tails
rear strut brace
TRD front strut brace
special edition car mats
trd short shifter
SSIII red stitching wheel and shift knob
TRD coilovers
5zigen 18x8.5 245/40r18 Nittos (NOT RUBBING AT ALL)
96+ bumper(not installed)
complete SSIII 6pc side skirts ( shipped from japan, not on yet)
TRD spoiler (real no fake parts on my cars)
Ton more to come

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 23, 2011 - 7:11 PM

Clip finally shipping in next 2 weeks with a load of other parts. They be available for sale in late August

Just got in SS TRD coilovers that need a tear down

Just got in complete interior parts from TRD SPORTS CURREN
These were special Currens with TRD kits and interior trims

So right now expect for wheels and few other bits the st205 and SSIII with be almost identical when complete

Truckload more rare parts are on the way for both cars..

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 23, 2011 - 8:04 PM

i also collect celica books, etc these will be with ST205 as collector items more than anything.
Have one more set of Toyota books to get and a few minor brochures

Posted by: 96stgreendemon Jun 23, 2011 - 10:01 PM

I wanna see this beams swap..... hell hopefully the WRC will be done by then and i can drive it up there

Posted by: RabidTRD Jun 23, 2011 - 11:06 PM

I do have to say, you and I share similar taste when it comes to white 6gc's. I won't let anything but OEM touch the exterior of my Celica and most of the interior, aside from the nick-nacks like the TRD shift handle.

Looking forward to this build.

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Jun 24, 2011 - 1:17 AM

Ooooo Nice find on those TRD coilovers and interior carbon fiber bits!!!

Hmm that clip looks familiar, is it an SS-III beams with superstrut??? how many miles on clip??

Whats your current setup of suspension on the white celica thats going to have the beams motor, rhd and superstrut setup. If your running lowering springs right now, the install of those trd coilovers will rub for sure right?? why such wide tires?? 235 wide would of fit your 8 inch wide wheel right?

btw very jealous of your Superstrut Set up.

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 24, 2011 - 6:14 AM

Yeah the clip is from Rpm Garage. Not super thrilled about it but
no one else sells clean beams clips. I know Keith so deal he gave
me was ol' friend discount.

Since both Celicas will be "fun" cars Im doing complete conversion.
I buying complete doors with clip as well.

Current setup is standard TRD coilovers (non ss) and rims are 18x8.5.
I got them with tires for $475. I put on along with coils and suprised
by only very slight rubbing in lock to lock turns. 245/40 is tad big but
grip is absolutely amazing . After owning 18 Mr2s over last 13yrs i
dont even miss mid engine handling after driving this car.

I have JDM 98 interior in both cars. Im having the TRD wheel and knob
redone in new leather with red stitching. Since no airbags in 205 made
more sense to run non airbag wheel. Only OEM guy but TRD is considered
oem as these parts were sold on a new Curren. Im also close to 40 so my
tastes are clean oem style.

Posted by: jmeyer Jun 24, 2011 - 7:13 AM

Are you planning on doing the work yourself for the swap or do you have a mechanic?

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 24, 2011 - 11:52 AM

Haha, i used to run a shop 15yrs ago. Im so anal about details no shop would
want to touch anyway.

Posted by: jmeyer Jun 24, 2011 - 12:28 PM

The only reason I ask is because you haven't posted any pictures of work being done. Could you post some of the repair process of st205? I would like to see how much work it is because I see a lot of front end collision celicas at auction and always wondered if its possible to get all the bumper/hood/fender to line up after a front end accident.

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 24, 2011 - 12:50 PM

Oh, Well St205 is 7hrs away right now but will get pics as we go along.
I know my body guy said hopefully will staighten out on frame rack.If not
we will replace left side apron using St205 front cut i have.

Posted by: Rusty Jun 24, 2011 - 3:26 PM

Nice collection of manuals you have there, any chance of saying what ones are what?

Great find on the TRD radio trim, no luck I guess finding the guage cluster one? Is the TRD wheel ST20# year specific? There are few for sale but they're either 97+ celica or for another toyota model

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 25, 2011 - 5:20 PM

Once i get other set of manuals( which i have no idea what used for)
I will post seperate thread on books . Great books if i knew japanese!

Small white book is entire epc for jdm 6th gen. Late 93 to early 99.
Need a part number pm me if cant find online.

Shop was parting out entire TRD Sports Curren. (wing, bumper, interior) so.
this is a Curren part but same wheel came in Momo interior on Anniversary
model. Also have orange dial arms with gunmetal accent guage cluster also
on Curren and Celica special editions. Pics below is example.

Rusty gonna hate me but radio trim complete was $100 ..lol

Posted by: CoreyST Jun 25, 2011 - 8:13 PM

Damn I would love to get a hold of Curren parts for my Celi. Hell a whole front end would be amazing.

Posted by: Rusty Jun 26, 2011 - 1:52 AM

opps sorry, I skimmed over the part were you said they all were originally from the curren. Damn thats a good price thumbsup.gif......... I've got the guage cluster surround smile.gif

Catching up with me & TRDGT4, with the amount of TRD bits on one celica.

something about splines????

sorry i dont know myself plus i will be using every nut and bolt on clip including axles .

ok I understand. But I need some clarification. Since you'll be the first person in all of the US who is doing a ST202 Superstrut Suspension Conversion I need some information.

I need to know if the Celica GT Macpherson Axles are the same as the Superstrut and if the Single Pot Brake Caliper can be mounted up to the Superstrut Suspension Bracket with or without modification.

Another thing how are you going to rebuild the TRD Coilovers. There are no other short stroke cartridges available to rebuild the TRD Coilovers besides buying original KYB Replacement cartridges directly from TRD Japan. Which can be sourced by a guy here In Torrance, California. TRD Headquarters for USA is located at Torrance, California

Posted by: FORGMANN Jun 28, 2011 - 9:40 AM

I have all the Toyota JDM EPC'S for last 20yrs as well as ST# 93-99 JDM Celica EPC book and the numbers are
same for SS1,SS2,SS3 .I also checked inner hubs and bearings etc are same #

Not the first to do this Scott in Mich did awhile ago but is going back to Mac struts . Though it has st205/mr2
axles and st205 hubs. http://www.6gc.net/members/1276

As far as rebuild all my coilovers are ok for now. Once both cars are on the road and complete i will look into
rebuilding. One thing i am not doing is going to pay crazy money for inserts. I have contacts in Japan i will have
look into but for now not a major priority for me. When i do rebuild i will post a thread on findings of course.

Well not a whole lot of update on ST205 but st202 clip shipped this week(finally) from Hong Kong
I also have my other real TRD spoiler on way so both cars will have authentic SS-III and TRD parts.
Clutch plate broke on donor chassis transmission so tear down will start next week. I am also rebuilding a ST
while wait for clip to arrive.

Sourcing st205 brakes for st202 as well so i can order brake pads in bulk from Europe for both cars

Here is clip pics from RPM garage ..GREAT SERVICE and gave me a lot of parts for free
Besides clip i had SS-3 doors shipped(no rust) so RHD swap will be a totally bolt in besides firewall.
Recaro back seat in there as well so both cars will now have 100% complete factory Recaro
interiors.

They've put a bit of work into that frame and a good use of recycling too with the hoods. Nice connections you have there btw to get all that stuff. The SS-III & TRD scheme should look great.

also pm you regarding the guage cluster

Posted by: BonzaiCelica Aug 1, 2011 - 4:38 PM

haha didn't pay much attention to the shipping quality. Ya hoods for reinforcement and that clip was very much cushioned and would of probably floated if it fell off the boat.

Your Momo steering wheel looks like the ones used on ITR DC2.

Here is a beams cluster and Curren TRD sports cluster. The Curren one
just has orange dials and gunmetal surround. Could easily replicate with
some graphite wheel paint. I am so anal about OEM look i bought these
for parts. I am using to build a St205 cluster that looks identical to beams.
I am having new mph faces made and 3 guage face made that look oem.

Oh and Rusty i would use TRD speedo but having to convert speed in
head all the time is not fun so only TRD part not getting.

I have beams cluster in my st204 running normally. I swapped out
entire assemblies and took off beams tach circuit board and swapped over
5sfe one just to try out . Took 1 minute to convert board and runs
correctly for 5sfe

Anyone wanting black cluster tach so have correct tach for 3s swap selling
for mega cheap.

Posted by: beams78 Aug 1, 2011 - 10:24 PM

wow you got alot for just a front clip how much did this all cost you just curiuse to know

Posted by: FORGMANN Aug 1, 2011 - 11:33 PM

Well i have 4500 in clip shipped but that includes over 1200 in parts added. I had room for
more fenders sets and skirts but could not afford to front another 500 for few more fenders
and skirts. One set of fenders is for another 6gc member suprised more guys didnt set up to
get fenders .

Funny i only paid 4100 for entire St205 but time dropped in driveway had around 6800 in it.

Posted by: Rusty Aug 2, 2011 - 12:38 AM

no sorry I was refering to the frame that goes around the guage cluster

Posted by: delusionz Aug 3, 2011 - 5:13 PM

I would so run the beams cluster in the st205, the boost gauge is practically useless anyways...

Posted by: richee3 Aug 3, 2011 - 9:53 PM

I'm interested in that tach. Pm'd.

Here is a sneak peak of something i wanted to do on ST205..i hated added on look of SS-3 splitters
on ST205 bumper ..Its hard to explain how i did this but it involves lot measuring and cutting.
Btw these are real splitters and it was lot of careful planning before cutting

Do you have a picture of what it looks right now?

Well the clip i was going to use was sold and is now in another members build thead. I am importing a another container and a white clip i need over next month.

I am also building right now a 3rd white 6th gen (yes i own 3 of same color) which was a beat down ST and was stripped to bare frame the painted and rewired
with all the GT wiring, TRD suspension and cleaned up 5sfe. Pics up when fully completed ( this car will be for sale by summer of 12')

I just got in a Eurou rear wing (thing huge Type R wing) which is like almost as much as TRD wings i have and will be going on ST for now.
St also received projectors,SS-III 6pc skirts, grille, sills, Silent Power exhaust (yes Rusty im toe to toe with you. lol) , jdm tails, hatch visor and rear strut bar.
Plan to install poly bushings once get thru winter. This car also is getting winterized with underbody and wheelwells sealed up right now.

ST was no never supposed to be a project car but recycling GT parts to that car just seemed to make sense.

Posted by: Ted95 Dec 17, 2011 - 11:14 PM

ive always wanted a white hatch, i like the curren cluster alot! lol

Posted by: FORGMANN Feb 27, 2012 - 1:23 AM

I couldn't stand to install 5sfe back into this chassis so decide to go cheap and do a 3sge 3rd gen NA swap.
Didn't want to do wiring so after a lot of searching and help from Malpaso i found Stefan in Slovakia
who was parting a Euro spec 3sge Celica .. same as SSII in japan. This means it has LHD engine harness and by
luck he pulled all the wiring from car and engine which i bought, Even has rear fog light harness built into
wiring as well..

So next phase is to prep 3rd gen and restrip car and rewire . I have a HKS header and b-pipe going on motor
so should free up a few hp with full exhaust i have..

Should note this car possibly could be for sale later this year as i don't need 3 white modded Celicas!! More pics later

Posted by: FORGMANN May 19, 2012 - 11:44 PM

OK
well time to another mega overdue update..
Somewhere between Slovakia and New York the company
that handles shipping for post offices lost 2nd box with LHD
3sge engine harness.. I just got claim money from Europe
so not too upset.. who knows where box went..

So after that i decided to sell old shell and focus on
what was "Beams" shell. I have all the parts to do a RHD
swap correctly and 3sge so decided to not buy another clip
and use what parts i have. This car will basically be a Beams
looking car but with a 3rd gen 3sge and E56. I was mad at first
having E56 but now glad as it use all the same parts as ST205
for linkage, and mounts.. Decided to do RHD swap as all the
parts look brand new and 0 wiring to solder or extend.

Car will have Super strut with TRD coilovers and because i have
them laying around ST205 brakes.. Have twin pistons as well
but St205 brakes will be great for track days in a lighter car.

I will post pics up soon ..

RHD parts are test fitted and just need to start firewall removal,

Here is the conversion and JDM parts list on this car..
Near new looking 94 3SGE W/ E56 LSD
2001 JDM 3spoke wheel with red leather grips and red stitching (same as SS3 just red grips)

Finally home this week after 10 years. Looks nice in pics but lot of restoration work ahead
Fires right up every time and amazingly the JDM gas is 10 years old but no issues
Tires haven't lost any air in 10 years and that was before it was shipped
205 will be stripped to shell and every inch of car will be gone over to preserve it
to like new condition and avoid any rust even though never going to see snow again .
This a weekend fun car so no rush to drive and for me part of fun is restoration .

When i got gas kid working at station goes "sweet supra"!!!! LOL
Bought as a 30 B-day present to myself and now here i am 40 next
year so it will be 40th B-day present to myself .

Oh also anyone interested in 3 spokes and near rally spec jdm winter tires
PM me .

FINALLY! tongue.gif Wow, that's a long wait. So why has it taken you so long to get it back there - just the whole process of trying to get it into the country and registered with silly laws?

BTW, do you still have a TRD quickshifter available? I PM'ed you ages ago and have been trying to hunt one down tongue.gif

Posted by: FORGMANN Aug 22, 2013 - 1:32 PM

No getting here was the easiest part
Life got in the way
Women, Money, Career , House all
got in the way, sometimes all at once !!
Plus i kept buying other "projects" and not
focusing on 205

I have so many requests for that shifter
Will let you know .

Well no exciting ST205 updates but big news is i added another RHD toy to the stable

White 1998 MR2 Hardtop (Beams) w/ 45K miles shipped from SE Asia in a crate 13' Long . 6ft wide x 5ft tall
Cost was 5800 total including car cost to my door if your curious .
Both 205 and 98 have identical Recaro confetti interiors, TRD steering wheels,Optional JDM Toyota Pedal kits and even similar floor mats

Beams will be going into my White 94 MR2 which already looks like a 98 .
98 then will be getting 2GR with TRD supercharger and Evora close ratio 6spd which i sourced from OZ and UK
If i didn't have all of these toys the ST205 be 100% done long ago !!!

Pics up soon

Better update the MR2 tally..... you sir, need to seek some serious 'help' tongue.gif

So is the '98 ever going to be road registered, or a track day weapon?
