We have alot of information on the gen4 3sgte along with a bunch of pictures (in an MR2) here: http://www.primemr2.com/gen4-3sgte.html

these guys site and their posts on the rav and mr2 forums are very insightful if your considering the gen4. i wanted to go this route(and actually talked to them about it) but just ran across the gen3 motor at a great price.

They do good work. I took my car to them a few weeks ago to get all the codes sorted and give the car a once over. Gave a lot of good feedback on potential issues with the car and things that needed to be looked at now, later, and never. Justin's also a really nice guy.

Just a little thread revive. My input on my experience of swapping out of the 97 5sfe s54 to 3sgte gen4. This was my very first time attempt to do a major project myself. Just to give you an idea. I went in this swap not even knowing how to change a clutch. Let it alone how a clutch/pressure plate/flywheel all works together.

This is a very Plug And Play swap imo. I ordered a gen4 3sgte, ecu, and wire harness. The only things I didn't do myself was the wiring harness. I had it sent out to wiregap to wire it up for me because I have no clue about wiring. Also I had my intercooler and my exhaust set up done by a shop because I lack in tools for welding and mandrel bends. I literally did all the hard labor myself from removing the hood down, pulling the engine out, putting it back in, and putting the hood back on. It felt like i dropped my 5sfe back in. Why? Because all my lines lined up and fits the gen4 accessories. Ac lines, PS lines, and fuel lines all fit. Don't need to swap over the 5sfe parts. The fuel return line and heater hoses, I had bought new universal lines to replace them because they weren't long enough and are old. I am currently using stock fuel pump with no problem and stock radiator + hoses with no problem. I'm also using the stock s54 with south bend 3sgte stage 2 pressure plate, ACT s54/3sgte hybrid clutch, xtr 3sgte lightweight flywheel. Also I went with the 10k ohm resistor mod for my rpm gauge to read the rpm signals properly which was like $12 fix that came with 5 resistors vs the msd mod whic costs more. So from my experience of never doing a swap to doing a swap. It's an easy swap that any one that's good with turning wrenches can do.

Yes. What they say about turbo spool is true. Spools quick and responds quick. My main reason for a gen4 vs a gen3 is because my power goal is something that's an easy swap and will have enough power to keep up with some "bolt on" street cars. So 260hp isn't a bad start. Hopefully after all these bolt ons. I'd be in the mid-high 200whp. Should be an easy 13s car which is good enough for me. I'll see how long my GT fuel pump will last me before I swap to the 255.

I'm not too worry about the noise. I'm sure my straight 3" exhaust and hks hi power exhaust will over power it. Lol
