Everything has a price! Your V6 is cleaner though. This shell needs a little body work. Nothing too bad but Iím envious when I see pictures of yours.

Here is the engine I plan to purchase Red Beam

A/T to M/T conversion is not an issue, but it will requite a couple more steps in the wiring harness. You'll need the plug for your reverse lights from a M/T harness to move over to the A/T harness, and there are a couple of wires to bridge from one of the A/T trans plugs. That information is over in the A/T to M/T swap thread. The cut wire by the ECU is slightly concerning- makes me wonder why it was cut and what else may be cut but you can't see in pictures. I've dealt with cut wires in the harness and while it's doable, I'll take an unmolested harness every day.

Does any US dealers sell the water pump for the Red top beams?

If I recall correctly, Prime MR2 has them in stock but no dealerships carry the water pump.

My opinion on the Redtop swap is this- look into the 4th gen 3S-GTE swap. Those engines are cheaper and more powerful than the BEAMS, which is only a small increase in power over the 5S for 99% of driving. Unless you plan on frequently hitting redline, the BEAMS is only slightly quicker than a 5S and most people don't get over 4,500 rpm frequently enough to use the BEAMS powerband. The 4th gen 3S swap can be done for a similar cost with the same reliability as the BEAMS but a nice bump in power, and the only extra bits of the swap that are different from any other swap is a wiring harness from Wiregap and a front mount intercooler. The BEAMS make a fun track engine or spirited weekend car, but for a DD a 5S really is the better choice.

Bout to install new Red top Beams . Engine comes with harness and ecu. But does not come with air intake hose or air box or MAF. Can I use the air intake hose and air box off of my existing 5SFE ? I plan to purchase new MAF

The BEAMS has a much larger throttle body and totally different intake lid than the 5S, and the MAF housing is built into the lid of the airbox so unfortunately none of the 5S stuff will work. The bottom half of the 5S intake box is the same so that part can be used again but you'll still want a BEAMS intake lid and elbow.

Are they plasti-dipped?

Is box going to come up to TOTD somehow?

Nah, not plastidipped, just black 3D printed plastic. Iím contemplating having them painted but I wouldnít know what color to paint them.

At least this gives you a chance to freshen up your engine. I replaced the valve cover in Brigetteís a couple of months ago and it was no fun. And the leak still persists... I think itís just doing to keep leaking until I need to pull the engine for something. Iím planning to go with a Southbend clutch whine this car finally needs one so Iíll be curious how you like it when you get it in.

I think thatís a better looking car than the 911. I considered buying one after selling the 350Z but decided just to keep putting the money away for a Supra.

The E type coupe has a weird roofline but the convertible is teh secks. The 240Z is definitely a great looking car as well. Iíd have a hard time choosing between a 1gc and a 240Z for a restoration project. Iím loyal to Celicas but the Z looks better in my opinion.

The S2000 is hands down the best looking Honda to me, but still just not really all that exciting. The NSX bears too much resemblance to an Accord for me, obviously very different but similar styling cues. Itís just not that exciting to look at to me, but itís still on a whole different league than the new NSX.

I think you meant to post this Bugatti 57C

The Bugatti is a great looking car, no doubt! However, I already said in my first post that any other opinion is wrong so therefore this is wrong. laugh.gif

The one you don't have to work on, the one that never let's you down, the one that makes you happy. That's the one.

This plays a huge factor in why I like the Astons so much. Easy to like a cat when itís not my money paying the constant repair bills. laugh.gif

that's a pretty good contender, or the early models with the double head lights.

You know, oddly enough thereís never been an Alfa that Iíve loved. Brigette likes the 4C but theyíre all a little funky in my eyes. I saw this one on Tuesday and snapped a picture because itís cool to see them around, but Iíve just never found them particularly interesting to look at.

Snip

You know, the 2000GT is an awesome car but itís just another one of those cars that is gorgeous to everyone else but just doesnít appeal to me. Itís the right shape that I like, thereís just something about it that doesnít call out to me.

At this point I will retract my opinion that every opinion outside of Aston Martin is incorrect. There has been plenty of sheet metal out there that looks fantastic. However, I think we can all agree that nothing from Honda will make the cut for this thread. At best, Hondaís styling is mind-numbingly bland, and at the other end of the spectrum you have the Civic Type R. I think the CTR might just be the worst looking car on sale today.

QUOTE (bloodMoney @ Jul 11, 2019 - 12:10 PM) *

I can agree with this one. The Jag deserves a spot among the best looking cars ever produced.

The joys of owning older cars... at least it happened somewhere where you could pull over instead of getting stuck in traffic. Youíll have to let me know how much of a nightmare the clutch job is.

I donít care what you say. Itís the Aston Martin Vantage. Or the Vanquish. Or the DB9. Or the DBS. Doesnít matter, they all look the same. laugh.gif

Regardless of incorrect opinions, I want to hear what you guys think is the most beautiful sheet metal ever.

Itís not GT vs ST, itís convertible vs coupe/liftback. The convertible fenders mount slightly different at the bottom in front of the door. I believe they can be modified to fit but Iím not sure whatís involved.

It had some pinhole leaks in the bottom, toward the front of the tank in the center. There were some bolts that hold what looks like a baffle for the fuel pump and these holes correspond with those spots. Thereís something like 18 of those spots in the tank. It gets real old real fast driving the car until itís completely out of gas so I can cover those spots with some Quicksteel just so my garage (and house since itís an attached garage) can smell like gas again a month later. kindasad.gif The new tank is good so far but the last one made it about a year before it started leaking.

I ordered window time for the GT4 since summer is finally here. Of course I mistakenly ordered it for a coupe. :imanidiot: The doors would have still worked but the driver door tint came with a crease in it. I tried to work it out but you could still see it from 100 miles away outside the car.

I can’t deny that the Mazda’s are better to look at but neither Brigette nor myself would ever trade in a 4Runner for one. Ultimately the choice was hers and she felt that the Rav4 was the only thing she’d like enough to give up the 4Runner for, and even then she was hesitant. She still doubts if she made the right decision but she is loving the Ravioli so far. Although we did just find out that Toyota recently changed their bumper to bumper warranty and it’s like half of what it used to be, so that’s pretty good appeal for literally anything else.

Not a very pretty thing to behold, is it? Got a coat of Rainx on it today and swapped the interior lighting out for LEDís. The hatch just has a puny 194 in it so Iím going to have to find a different solution there, otherwise all good. Maybe this weekend but probably next weekend Iíll get around to ceramic coating it. LED headlights are decent but the factory fog lights are garbage. I donít mind driving it though, definitely a more pleasant experience than our 4Runner was. I thought I would hate the parking brake that sets automatically but itís nice to have in our driveway. It doesnít climb the curb as easily as the 4Runner did but it does it much more smoothly. We gotta get stickers on it to add one trillion hp though.

Now you guys have got me looking into a better light for working in the garage...

I personally like 4Runners way more than Raviolis. The last body style had poor visibility and made no effort to hide the fact that it was a taller AWD hatchback Corolla. I genuinely hated the last body style of Rav4 the way Richard Hammond hates the Nissan Juke. However, I have just never really been sold on this 4Runner. Our last one was smaller and significantly more nimble than this one, always felt more composed where this one has always felt soft and handles like a 1970ís pickup, and drinks gas like one too. The Ď06 just felt better built too- you couldnít watch the sheet metal on the hood flex while you drive and you never heard the sheet metal on the roof flex either. You could hear the cheapness in the doors when you close them, and the interior reminds me a bit of GM, covered in cheap materials everywhere you look which wouldnít bother me if I hadnít just had the Ď06 which had soft touch materials and was built before the unintended acceleration recall so the carpet wasnít made of Velcro. Ultimately thereís nothing at all wrong with the 4Runner we just got rid of but I just always found it disappointing compared to the V8 Ď06 we had which I genuinely loved, and we needed one with KDSS or XREAS instead of the very soft off-road oriented suspension. Which brings me to my next point- Brigette did 90% of the driving in it, and she never really got attached to this 4Runner either. The RAV4 gets double the gas mileage of the 4Runner, itís more comfortable, and we just donít really need the room of the 4Runner when itís just us and two medium sized dogs. My complaints of cheap carpet arenít solved (worse, actually) but otherwise the Rav just makes more sense for us. Maybe Iíll pick up an3rd gen 4Runner or another 4th gen again in a few years.

Also, renting a trailer and towing one of the cars to the Midwest Meets is now officially out of the question. frown.gif
