other than that I've kept clean and shiny
the parts are in Japan and will take 6-8 weeks via ship to reach me
I'll post pics (and the prices) as I recieve parts
looks like some good things going on there rusty, any engine pics of intake etc? any plans for big rims or jdm projectors?
lol, there might be
haha a celica of mystery!! my bad.... just realised your signature has pic of engine and intake!! lol
Im sure you will keep us all updated mate
well apart from the "mystery parts" i'm going to add
intake pipeing cold airbox, I hope
a new boot for the gear stick
& lights...for the clusters and ignition ring
Parts are hopefully on there way and get here late august?
22 more days till they arrive into the country
also now got new 205 directionals instead of 195 mixed
UPDATED PIC of tyres
Yay only 15 days till they arrive I'm going to be nice here and give you some info
Note this is the total for each part (I dont pay for shipping or feight to may place )
White TRD Cap
$48 + GST EACH (why not I'm buying stuff for my celica?)
Post a picture of your TOM`S racing pedals. Ps, I can rig up a blue ignition ring for you if you want, I have 2 spare clear rings, Toyota stopped putting them in Celicas after 1995, What I did was take a splice from the cigarette lighter power and run some wire through the dash plastics.
notice all 4 (clutch brake accelerator & foot rest)
I think your ignition ring plastic might be black with no transparent bit....
Here's the difference, 1996 on the left, 1995 on the right:
PS. When I looked at my pedals closer it had some stupid chinese on the top and levin(???????) on the bottom, definitely not TOM`S ... Eww.
YES!!! PARTS are at my place (except one is missing so i contacted TNZ), but im not there im in aussie
YES I Have all parts(for STAGE 1 lol) here are some pictures
Whats that?????
pictures missing SS-III Badge, Red FRONT SS-III Spiltters, SS-III Grille & TRD Cap
will post prices shorty
can't believe i haven't posted here yet. great to see your car coming along so well man. how much all those brand new parts set you back?
Sweet!!!!!!
those TRD strut braces look very sturdy, I envy ur projectors, wouldnt mind the grill and badge either... ur so many steps ahead of me now hehe
That reminds me, I still need to put in my clear highs haha. Damn front bumper being such a pain to take off and put on again.
Nice bar. I am rather jealous
lights in used SS-III connectors
oh yea. I wont put the front splitters in right now or else it will look front heavy
wow that looks awesome! what do u mean by front heavy?
EDIT: Oh you mean wait until you get rear splitters aswell?
yup rear splitters and side skirts
Did you order those splitters pre-painted or something? Projectors are the best exterior mod someone can do!
Rusty I'm loving the car, it's looking awesome!
wow those projectors look so cool! i want to get some for mine! is there a website were i can order these?
where did you get the side indicators and how much? whatthe was wondering.
trademe (NZs version of Ebay)
$NZD 40ish (came wth new amber bulbs)
well according to the SS-III thread here the side skirts aren't painted, but i'll check when I oder them
Hey Andy, I ordered the same indicators from trademe, turns out the guy I went to pick them up from has a shop full of them right around the corner from my house, PM me if you decide you'd like a pair of them and I'll be your middle man.
just waiting to hear back from my supplier for prices then a 5-6 week wait till they arrive
right time for an update. depsoiting money on friday then another 5-6 week wait, so around X mas time they should arrive...sweet
holly crap oem bodykits are expensive!!!!!!!!
$ 731 for rear splitters... damn toyota.... their prices are so overrated even my ss3 doesn't have its own kit haha
wonder what TRD splitters would cost
Damn that is ridiculous alright.
There is a guy selling them on TM;
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Exterior/auction-183020448.htm
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Exterior/auction-183020450.htm
Alot cheaper just have to get them painted. dont know how well they will fit tho.
haha you have to know the right people
that Tradme kit looks like a SS-II kit like you have parriehunter
The SSII isnt good enough??? hahaha j/j
If he doesn't want to spend over $700 for SSIII ones. Whats the difference? cant say i have seen them side by side. I just thought the front was different.
The trademe ones I've seen around, the splitters and rear endcaps from that cheap trademe kit look like TRD but the front splitters on the TRD ones have holes in the front (air dams or wateva).
haha actually saw a curren today with the kit, but looked like it was the standard kit (because it was an oldy driving) also notice how many more curren and celica's are in my area now. THERES HEEAPS!
the SS-III run longer and are thiner, were as the SS-II one is shorter and fatter. (both front and rear)
TRD kit:
notice the trademe kit has similar style to TRD in the rear and sides but not front:
hmm I dont like the hieght on the side skirts, prefer SS-III ones
...
... ...
Yea I saw it. pretty crazy. I dont like the way it looks tho. would be cool if it looked stock. ulitmate sleeper.
I like the height of the side skirts.
Yeah it's quite ghetto, the boost gets you laid sticker, the podgy girl sitting in the passenger seat, the tacky blue seat covers, painted steering wheel, dodgily placed trd sticker and the path of the intake plumbing paints a nice picture of the owner.. lol
Haha. ghetto. it sure does paint a picture. she must be one lazy girl. couldn't be arsed moving out of the car for the photos. I think the seats are actually blue. but yea could look better.
...
Haha, that dude is angry. What a noob.
MAN I CAN'T WAIT
I've still got about 4 weeks left till parts arrive.
update if any?
Of course...
ok so I contacted my supplier about my parts arriving from Japan, and I can expect them wait for it...... 24th December, so I get a merry xmas this year also got a guy who can paint my side skirts and install them (hes very good, so I can expect a top job ). and the splitters are easy install (aswell as the other things) then finishing it off with an trd oil change ...I cant wait
so we are looking about mid january finish
YEAH CELICA SS-II.V
Fairplay Rusty, the car looks animal
and thats in NZ dollars remember that. Yup thats all I paid for them as for shipping, it was FREE right to my door step and they arrived at my place in just 2 days after entering the country.
I'm still happy with the price (still alot cheaper than everybody else/most people) that must have been quite a while ago then? aussie dollar isn't doing to good with NZ dollar?
Anyway a little update, parts arrive in the country in about 5-6 days time, now I want the get them just after New Years, just so theres no chance of them getting lost in the post, because of Xmas
oh right, yeah price must have gone up. I'm happy with the price (after hearing what the best deal my local toyota could do, NZ$1500 roughly)
yeah rest of the body kit arrives this week
car looking great!!
bump for update!
well I was waiting for one of the rear strutbrace covers, however it will take about 10 ETA so... they are going to send all other parts down to me, should be arriving tomorrow (saturday or monday)
goes in just over a week to get skirts painted and installed, then I just have to fit the splitters, the body work is done
thanks for the interest
so its monday...
wow what is that next to my oil filter?
A FREE mug, they gave me
lots of boxes (couple aren't in the pic)
new TRD gear knob and gearstick boot installed, feels very nice, yup that mug fits
got one cover, and is now installed
just waiting on the second, should arrive pretty soon
sorry for what is it now? triple post. but the second strutbrace cover arrived today
and going in shorty for paint and install of the side skirts.
It says finished mid-Jan, but believe me, it's never finished.. haha
looking good there mate bet you can't wait to have the kit on
yeah I know what you mean guys, just want to get my licence done first (finally getting round to doing my full) so will go in a about 2weeks time but I do have some crappy cellfone pics I might throw on just to keep you guys happy
EDIT: here are the pics
Haha love the use of your shoes rusty, you kiwis can be very inovative.
Any update??
Are you getting a strut brace cover as well as the mount covers?
makes the strutbrace beefier
yeah that might come later on in the year...
anyway
So is there a noticeable difference in handling performance between the stock strut brace and the TRD one?
umm yes and no, i've heard it works best at high speed cornering, if you take out & check your stock strutbrace you can see how much movement it has (which cant be good) if it doesn't do anything it still looks like it adds 20HP
its kind of hard for me to tell at the moment since i dont have my celica --- yup about 2weeks
You should be able to feel extra G's on your body from a stiffer setup... It looks like it would be very effective
I can feel something (feels nice going round corners now ) but I dont know if its the lowering springs??
I did, I put the springs in then months later I went to aussie (didn't drive my celica for about a week) and when I got back my brothers had already put the trd strutbrace in.
Update: if no one had read or figured out yet my car is in the shop getting the kit fitted and painted etc (I'm going to the shop tomorrow to see how they are going)
also my lights have arrived today they look real nice, cant wait to put them on, they also came with bulbs which saves me some time and money.
I pick up the celica later today and will post pictures soon , had I look it a couple of days ago without the skirts on(had just been painted) looks real good and very low
(sorry for the triple post)
aawww do I have too??? whether isn't that great........ i've just put those front indicators, in the end I had to get new bulbs as the US bulbs that came with it, had 2 filaments in them, where as ours only has 1. odd but they look & work very nice compared to the old ones.
a couple of my mates have seen it and the reckon it almost is a widebody on it, due to the angle of the sideskirts etc
looks real good
OMG! that was a pretty impressive list of parts you got there...and for it all to be OEM one heck of good buy for you, the car turned out really well, i love the color and the stance! good job!
You debadged the rear?
Very very very nice !!
another update: oil change and heatwrap
I can feel a big difference in engine bay temperature
Looks good man, engine got some extra juice now? your temp gauge go down or not really?
wheres your 2000 twin cam 16 gone?
Well if your engine bay is cooler then your intake should be cooler, perhaps you'll notice it more at night.
I removed the heat shield from the SS-III too so the heat was also absorbed by the bonnet instead of being kept in, Probably wont do it on the GT-Four so crap doesn't drop through onto the engine.
Beautiful. You keeping that rear wing? Hopefully a red GT4 or SS-III spoiler will come up, or even a two post wing and you could get the dimensions of the riser blocks and make it with fibreglass. Two post wings have different mounting holes so it will have to be professionally filled and drilled.
i dunno I like my wing, I dont really want a SS-III wing because its not a SS-III, since its a SS-II
and yup wheels are next on the list, once I can kind some nice ones, except I cant find any I like/suit it
so start giving me ideas for wheels 16" or 17" nothing bigger than 38 offset (I think)...hmm maybe 17" by 7" ???
post up some pics so I have some ideas
DAMN! Lookin good.
Seeing this thread it reminds me my journey from stock look to SS-III look . It looks really good. Amazing work... really, really
Your car looks great so please don't take this the wrong way, but is your driver side (RHD from the looks of it) front splitter mounted a bit high towards the middle?
does anyone have a picture of the air temperature thingy that goes into the stock airbox, i might be able to get my hands on one, but the person doesn't know what it is or what it looks like.
lol still waiting on that pic mercuryfree
anyway its about time for the next stage
this time I'll be looking at a whiteline swaybar, adjustables coilovers, rims (still haven't found any I like, im I just picky?) oh and these.........
points about these: the rotor is almost the same size as my rims they're heavy (all up weigh 45KG) the calipers are HUGE. the calipers and rotors look in pretty good condition, just surfuce rust on the rotors.
UPDATE
Thinking of going away from these brakes now and improving the brakes I have now, so will be looking at slotted brake rotors, pads and stainless steeel brake lines, because it works out cheaper than doing all the work with the gt4 brakes (custom rotors and lines and modiflying them to fit etc)
Wow you really got round to getting those calipers pretty quick. $500 was it? Good ****in' buy, so you need new wheels I take it?
Man these brakes are amazing aye, the other night someone cut me off on a motorway onramp and I thought I was going to mount the front end of my car into the back of this ****ty boonger van but the GT4 went from 0 to 80kph and back to 0 in the wet in a blink of an eye. I think the 4wd helps too, but I did clutch+brake so not really. Definitely feel and hear the ABS working as the car goes clap clap shudder halt.
The SS-III would have had no chance in hell of saving itself
Btw do you reckon the _ONLY_ difference about SS-II and SS-III is the superstrut suspension? I thought there was a hell of alot more than that, and SS-II was pretty much SS-I with 3S-GE?
Or in other words, an SS-III with coilovers is simply no better than a lowered SS-II?
Because I thought LSD & 2 pot brakes also pertained to SS-III, but you reckon you've got it too.
These are the pages where I got my information from...
Car Directory / Toyota / Celica / 1996 / Modification SS-III specs: http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/toyota/celica/1996_6/5742/
LSD (Limited slip differential) Present
Car Directory / Toyota / Celica / 1996 / Modification SS-II specs: http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/toyota/celica/1996_6/5740/
LSD (Limited slip differential) Not Present
Also the chassis codes, BLMVF vs BLMZF would seem to indicate more than just 1 feature.
4) Trim level. S=Sports, normal performance. G=Higher grade. V=Luxury sports. Z=High performance.
5) Engine code. Z=Twincam (high performance), EFI, Turbo. F=Twincam, EFI (high performance). K=Twincam, EFI (economy).
Just making a note of this stuff because you pretty much told another guy in another thread that it was ok to get the SS-II front clip in the case where he wanted LSD with it. And now I'm confused as to what the real information is?
your car is hot and really nice. i would like to make my Celica like that someday. nothing to crazy or flashy either, but still stylish and unique! great great job! gotta love new zealand too! do you know the orthodontist business "Top Gums"?
Suppose you'll have to have a drive of my ST205 -- Hit the boost, Throw it round a corner, stomp the brakes, etc. Then we can look at comparing ST202's Maybe you'll let me pilot your little beast
where did you order all those. i want some=)
all parts (GTP & TRD) where from Toyota and TRD japan, also got free shipping to my front door. (which was a bonus) just talked to a few toyota people to see who had the best deal then just went from there.
managed to find rims 16"(NZD250) it'll allow me to do the brake swap
your ride is comming along real nicely! just drop and rims will make it 10x nicer. also, how do i contact trd/toyota of japan? i want that front strut bar and lower blk grills so badly.
has been dropped its just got 15" ... but 16" soon
I went through toyota NZ, for you check the 'for sale' board or 1sttoyotaparts.com I think you go to (if your in the US)
What rims rusty?
well umm these.....
bought them for NZ$250 which is about US$160'ish 5mm on the front new ones (or very close to I think) on the rear
sweettt. 7g wheels r the shiz.
car looks awsome!
niice car man um i hope your prepared to buy spacers for you wheels
nice build you got going here Rusty. Umm by chance would you every let me have your ss-II front and rear brake set up in the future???
if your getting those 7th gen wheels. paint them a bronze or goldish color like manphibian had on his celica, they look really awesome that way.
16x7.5 is the same size as my st205 oem wheels, but I think the st205 calipers wont clear your 7th gens spokes.
Anyhow, they take a 215/50R16 tyre at that 7.5" width (205's for 7's), I used to use Bridgestone Potenza GIII's but they phased out that range and they don't have that size in their new Potenza Adrenaline range so I go with the closest size 225/50R16. Just some info if you use Bridgestone tyres, if not disregard this and get the 215's in whatever brand of rubber you use.
You don't have to powdercoat them, you can rattle can them.
I saw those on trademe, would love it but at this stage any spare 200 bucks will be spent on a new radiator with an aluminum top (mines got a crack near the filler cap) or getting my wastegate repaired (it's overboostin)
Braided brake lines are good though, I'd recommend the upgrade.
SS-II and SS-III: the front are 2 pot (2 on the inside with a slide), where as the GT4 are 4 pot (2 on each side)
the rear are 1 pot (1pot on the inside with a slide) the GT4 rears are 2pot (1 pot on ech side)
UPDATE: not a lot the brakes are just sitting there at the moment, have Clint keeping an eye for parts for me, so hopefully will get lucky there
looking into coilovers at the moment.
also on another note the tyres (KUMHO's which came with them) I have on at the moment suck, no grip and they are pretty new aswell.
Update 2 on the brakes
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=59769&st=100
well apart from the expensive part() I've ordered you see in my signature, I've ordered some more stuff:
16401-SP030 TRD sports radiator cap
90915-SP000 TRD oil filter
16340-SP030 TRD sports thermostat
and a couple of other replacement parts I need
Let me know how the TRD thermostat goes - Better get yourself 3 bottles of 1L concentrate Toyota LL coolant
Do a flush with the garden hose with the heater turned on while u have the thermostat housing off -- be sure you work fast, my battery went flat while doing this LOL.
I was told not to get the TRD thermostat on a daily driver, just for race use (pre-warmed engine & continuous Full throttle). The OEM thermostat runs the engine at correct operating temperatures, TRD part is 10 degrees lower.
Also don't know about that TRD radiator cap either, the stock cap is 0.9 bar (takes 0.9 bar of pressure for the spring to open and release overflow) whereas the TRD part is 1.2 bar?? Afaik this part is for having an uprated water pump and uprated cooling parts (aluminum top tank in particular).
The TRD oil filter should be sweet though.
right at the moment i'm finally made a start on my cold airbox. so working with cardboard to sort out the shape (the battery, fusebox and loom around that area are staying there so I have to work around them) Will have to get some padding in the area to make sure it doesn't rub or rattle on anything.
But i'll need to change to a cone shape air filter, since I'll run out of room with my HKS filter, works out alright since I haven't changed the filter (oops) new filter for it, then onto my brother's EP82.
Hey rusty, have you installed the gt4 brakes? If you have does the 7gen rims still clear it?
nope not yet sorry, still a bit uncertain about the brakes however. the backs clear the wheels with out the use of spacers (however the rear will have the stink sunk in look) fronts a big no. would need big spacers, no expert but 15mm spacer?
also on another note these parts arrived replacement parts, TRD sports radiator cap & TRD oil filter, ready for my next oil change (comes with a sweet sticker saying when your next change is due etc ) other stuff should be here in a couple of weeks
also took my celica on my local track again. I noticed a big difference between stock suspension setup and my current one (springs and F&R strutbraces). however there is still loads of bodyroll and understeer (so wont be needing a front swaybar anytime soon) manage to shave about +2sec off previous time
not much of an update, more of an un-update. reading into the GT4 brake swap and talking to a local vehicle certifier (since they WILL have to be certified here in NZ) due to the work involved..................I will not be able to get a cert, as it would be deemed unsafe. (due to the cutting of the caliper)
also you may have noticed the text in my signature keeps changing (reread: oh wait I've alreay told you it has) so hopefully in december (all going to plan) I should be able to tell you all what I've been up to.
why not just get the GT4 wheel hub, and run with that...I mean, you do have the superstrut suspension right? At least with those you'd be able to run the calipers and such.
nope mines not a SS-II superstrut, and the GT4 wheel hub (as far as I know) wont fit mine, however I've heard you can swap parts over from the GT4 to a SS-II and SS-III superstrut, so your running the same suspension components & brakes as a a GT4 (front part anyway)
Thats silly tho, cert laws. Want to sell the gt4 brake set later on down the track?
depends I might try and sell them in NZ, hopefully make enough money to buy upgraded pads slotted rotors and SS lines. shipping overseas will be expensive, its about 50KG's
Don't give up on it man, Surely there should be a way to direct swap them.
Someone's just telling you crap, I don't see why it should be illegal to have higher option brakes installed post-factory, Besides they say Celica on them.
Surely there must be a way to get them to fit just like OEM?
well theres no rush to sell them yet, and there are a couple of vehicle certifiers in HB... I'll think about.
thanks 3WayStunna
So today my stuff arrived today got some replacement parts and this other...thing
(ST20# TRD quick shifter set, front rubber strip, 3S-GE engine decal & air temperature sensor)
hope to have the quick shifter in this weekend, and the decal! will be going on once I've had time to tidy up my intake manifold.
I want a TRD Quickshifter! Does this mean you have a spare TRD knob?
Good you got the air temp sensor, Have you found where to wire that in? or are you going to run your own pair of wires straight into the ECU plug?
I have a spare OEM Rubber grommet, You'll need a 20mm hole in your intake pipe right by your air filter.
Very clean engine bay....well done rusty....how is handling so far?
Right just finish install the TRD quick shifter set, and damn it changes gears, well emm quick
Heres a couple of before and after shots
Before: neutral & 4th
After: neutral & 4th
and here are some comparing the two.
notice when doing the install, some parts we didnt have to unlpug and also the TRD install sheet came in handy
just thought I'd show you something quite funny. The TRD quickshifter install sheet
quickshift in an auto ???????
Looks like santa was a little late this year
Further update: The parts I've been waiting for, have arrived & are just about ready so you might get a update later next week (thats all im saying for now)
Looks an impressive spend on parts.......
I want a SS-II badge for mine!!
wow i had not realized how much work has been put into this car, its amazing, wish i could get the trd quick shifter.
Glad things are coming along well.
My car, well is dead ATm.
nice Rusty. cant really seem to tell how much shorter the trd shifter is compared to the stock one.
wait quickshifter really. So you can only move the shifter up and down. Its not a stand short shifter where you can still move into all five gears??
Still the normal 5 gears, however the throw or movement to all gears are shorter. By changing the shift lever ratio, I've shortened the shift stroke to get into each gear. Just because it looks the same height, you can be fooled into thinking its a stock shifter.
Quite the TRD fanboy Rusty, very tasteful.
TRDSS2 lol
lol
& still available
well time for an update, I've kept a secret for a while....
but first before I show you what I've been up to. Firsty I'd like to thank Clint (TRDGT4) & Mike (delusionz) for there help
Thanks guys!!
just a little history on how it happened
Wowwwwzer, the rims! You got the centre caps powercoated too right? You better get some spacers on them too rusty!
Oh and tein thats some expensive **** you have there. Tell me how they are when you have them on and if its worth the extra buck.
You must be so broke right now. But so happy.
Awesome stuff! Can't wait to see the pics
Those powdercoated white wheels and tein coilovers are pretty amazing combination. I wish I coul have that on car as well one day...
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW JEALOUS, GO TEIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey You must definitely have another crack at those GT4 brakes now. I insist!! And these wheels will clear it without spacers!!
couple of pics during install
loving the new width (225 rather than 205)
the wheels top right are the old 7gc rims, notice how narrow they are?
almost looks better without the centre caps in
Omg I love it. How are those Toyo Proxes? Good grip? 225/50R16 ?
Btw you might be able to pop those small Toyota caps in from the 7gen Wheels Or maybe just some small blank white ones.
yeah toyo's 225/45r16 93W's handle alright lots of grip I think, handle alright in the wet aswell.
haha well actually we tried the 7gc caps, but different design & they use a lip. Where could I find these caps?
Repco or super cheap maybe? not too sure... maybe u could adapt something...
cheers will give it some thought
Love the new rims! And I agree they look great without center caps.
True looks good without the centre caps. Cant wait for the drop
they look incredible !
great choice !
225/45 r 16. Hmm nice choice. do the tires protect your rim? get some more pics of the rims from different angles. you car is coming along nicely
I know center caps from a Prius fit a lot of OEM Toyota wheels...such as tC wheels.
So, in short, sell me your Toyota center caps.
well been busy today got the backs in
thats just after putting the teins in when we pulled of the other wheel it was just off the ground, as you see lots of clearance
comparing the 2
weight standard 8.6kg & the are tein 7.9kg I'm pretty sure
thats the wheel just off the ground.
thats it on the ground
using the 7gc rims for the moment until I'm happy with the ride hieght, and I dont ruin the 6spoke rims
Nice work!
Question: Have you got a bigger, smaller or same rolling diameter on the new 6 spoke wheels 225/45R16 vs the 205/50R16 on the old 7th gens?
I was looking through your pics and the wheels looked really small on your car, I'm thinking maybe it's because my tyres are too tall at the moment I've got the wrong size 215/55R16. Maybe that's why you held off until you got the coil overs in to lower it more so the small looking wheels wouldnt look funny?
I didn't expect this to happen, but it may just be all in my head.
Hmm here we go, some tyre sizes and rolling diameters...
205/55R15 - 606.29 mm (SS-I Stock)
205/50R16 - 611.37 mm (SS-II Stock)
215/45R16 - 599.69 mm
215/50R16 - 621.28 mm (SS-III & GT-Four Stock)
215/55R16 - 642.87 mm
225/45R16 - 608.83 mm
225/50R16 - 631.19 mm
I'm pretty sure its the same (if not might be out a couple of mm's out)
factory specs on the door sticker:
195/60R15 88H
205/55R15 87V
Did the fronts in the afternoon yesterday.
weight for Teins 6.9kg factory was 9.2kg
weather was ok, sunny and hot, butwith big storm clouds on the way, Tein where all installed & went inside for a break. The it starts pissing down
manage to get all the tools etc out if the rain, after 5 minutes it stops and we carried on
Cant have the fronts too low, due to some big speed bumps, & I dont want to 'crab' it everwhere.
maybe not the best example heres before tein
Put the dampner on the hardest setting, VERY bumpy. driving along, but braking is just so good, got the dampnering setting on 12 (I think thats what tein recommends aswell)
Absoulte brilliant! Good coverage of your installation too. Too sexy sir.
looking good mate
There really aren't many better looking cars than a red 6gc like yours
Wow what a Beauty.
Dam thought SS-II's came with 16" wheels aswell, Guess not. That must mean that SS-I comes with 14in.
got a wheel alignment the other day. though I might aswell post it up
uuummm superstrut?? I dont think so.
Since been done feels much better, was suggestered to get camber bolts (only 3 needed at the moment but still possible movement in the 4th) so once I get the cert for the suspension I'll go back in, & put those in.
Uh oh.... What if the specs for the regular st202 are different?
I told the guys at Firestone when they tried to align my wheels to ST185 specs that mine was ST205....
Not sure if there is a difference...
Hmm I have a nice little update myself too May have to post it.
white wheels always win.
no matter what car they are on!
any white wheels
even my white steelies lol
Maybe they thought it was an SS-III because of your bodykit
It's funny how because our cars aren't badged nobody knows anything about them, People used to argue that my old SS-III was really a Two because it didn't have Beams or a body kit. People mislabel 1998 SS-II as a Three not knowing the difference is LSD and Superstrut. Logically, why would you put a Gen 3 and a Gen 4 in the same year?
haha lol
Weather this weekend wasn't looking to flash so I've finally got back to working on my cold airbox and I feel this is a much better design than the past 2 designs I had.
Yeah I know it just looks like a square box, but you'd think theres a lot of space its easy, but you have quite a few little things such as the loom, the battery, AC lines, fuse box, an engine mount and the slope from the strut tower.
The other thing with this, is I've had to change to a cone shape filter since the HKS filter was too big, and my brother wanted it for his EP82. So once a finally get it built and get a new intake pipe that will fit. I was wondering if I should paint the box black or polish up the metal? Was Also wondering if it could be worth lining the box with the 'cool wrap' Jim did to his ST205 swap, to help keep the temperature down, since its quite a warm engine bay? I also want to put on a few stickers on top (such as my tein ones I recieved with the suspension & TRD) mainly for the wank effect
You're not going to have a cardboard box under your hood are you?????
You could wrap it in many layers of fibre glass stuff and then epoxy it, use 2 afm->podfilter adaptors one on each side to bolt together...
the problem with that location is that you cant fit a 3" pipe under the fuse box to get to the underbody cover (pressurised cold air from the front bumper)
get a K&n cone filter, they come with a sticker for the top and a warning sticker saying not to dispose of the filter lol
cardboard-fibre FTW.... jj no I'm going to use metal for the real one, this was to get an idea of dimentions etc to cut down on problems when making the real one
man i havnt been on this forum in like a year, i dont have my celica on anymore but ive always kept up with this thread because its so dam nice and i wish i had the funds to have worked on my 6gc when i had it
great work
I did something similar to that airbox and ended up taking it off after the first drive, even though it would suck in colder air there is less air for it to suck in and I found it almost worse, just try it out and see how it goes though.
OH!your car looks greate!I have SS-2 too)plan to visit USA and buy TEINs this summer, or maybe install 4wd from GT4 on my 202)
I'm envious for such a cleanness under your hood and a whole car) in Russia it's practically impossible to keep a car so clean with everyday use(
greate work and great condition +1!! Don't you want to swap an engine to gte? or beams?it would be nice with a lot of parts, which you already installed! your GT4 breakes are waiting for GT4 engine, man!!!;)
yeah, I had a quick look at yours, looks pretty nice. I think you should try get some power out of that BEAMS engine of yours
cheers mate, I do put a bit of effort in, I really hate driving a dirty car. but I suppose you can have more fun in the snow
nope I dont like swapping engines over, so I'm staying GE on this and doing a bit of work on it (updates hopefully later this year )
About the GT-4 brakes, since there is a bit of modification required to install them and then also being able to get a certification for them will not be easy. Plus I've just paid $550NZ for the suspension to be cert'd over here. So I dont know at the moment sorry.
come on there must be an update of some sort on this beast!!!!
I dont know what you've read, but the teins are in and they are certed. and I'm trying to convince some guy with a white gt4 owner whos in japan at the moment to go shopping on my behalf
Wow does your car look nice!!! You gonna HID those projectors I hope?
cheers mate, I dont have any plans to HID them yet, but maybe in the future
Haven't posted here in a while, so I'd though I'd thought I'd keep it updated with some pictures
gave the SS-2 a good clean after work yesterday, then went for a good drive around Hawkes Bay this morning.
Just a quick opinion/question, someone here (NZ) is selling a (BRAND NEW) ST205 WRC Bonnet Spoiler. Should I buy it? Y/N
example:
i don't think you need the hood spoiler. looks fine without it
Thanks, much appreciated, the 2nd, 3rd & 4th photos are favourites there. I do have a couple more rear shoots that have the hills in the background, which I might add later on.
one I've just photoshopped
I was thinking of doing one similar to that, execpt taking the drivers door out so you can see the interior and the boot or trunk as you guys call it.
all i can say is WOW very nice pics, i haven't followed your thread in a while. lets see if you can answer my question. I've pretty much gave up the fight for superstrut suspension, becuase Ive been thinking about it so much and wanting it so badly but being able to get replacement parts such as different ball joints or the figure 8's will be very costly and hard to find. So I'll be sticking to McPherson coilover setup.
Refer to this video by cusco for further understanding of fully threaded coilovers and travel stroke
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nh_x8ZeVeY...player_embedded
On another note: parts on there way soon. Dont worry Clint(TRDGT4) I'll tell you first
ok then Ill move that whole post over to the Tein Superstreet thread and ask them all the questions. thanks for the answers....
the cheapest I was able to find the TRD quick shifter was for $250 with tax and shipping from a site thats located here in California. Is there anywhere else I can get it for cheaper. Ok and besides it having 40% shorter throws it is really worth getting it Rusty, since you have one. I was looking at the TWM and it just seems to short for me. Making a custom short shifter just seems like too much work is there any other options.
What makes the TRD so special besides it being TRD, why does the quick shifter set come with the whole shifter assembly and not like the TWM short shifter???
TRD quicker shifter is what it is. Height wise it attempts to keep the same modifies the pivot point to where it links to the shifter cables but making it shorter. Thats how the trd quick shifter produces its quick shifts.
TWM short shifter gets its short shifts by cutting the shifter from the pivot point to the knob. By doing this each throw is cut by X distance cause the shifter is shorter. As a result your hand has to go lower.
Oh one more thing, I have the TRD leather shifter and whenever it gets hot outside the shift knob seems to move around in my hand when I shift fast, the threading isn't made for our 94-99 celica as it didn't have it listed on the back of the packaging. I shouldn't have this problem with the TRD quick shifter right???
or I was just thinking of leaving my stock shifter and adding these on for $70 expensive I know but thats what you'd expect from C-One
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.c-one.co.jp/&ei=WH2hTN63IIT6swPbycB0&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CB4Q7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dc-one%2Bmotorsport%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26prmd%3Div
Im not quite sure, but the thread type is definitely correct. All shifters threads are 12x1.5 on toyotas. I couldnt answer why it would move around.
sounds like your knob is a fake, or previous owner has done something to the shifter/thread
the c-one link doesn't show anything
I wouldn't bother with those C-one bushings, since the TRD quickshifter set & TWM short shifter set(should) come with these. You might have over tighten it which may have destroyed the thread in the knob.
Very nice.... the one with the photoshoped engine looks good.
thanks
update time
(next to my car is my brother's starlet, been doing a bit of work on it in the winter)
OPEN IT!!
I'm too excited, you open it...
cams!
i know what's in the box with no dots but come on Rusty show and tell.........................
CAMSCAMSCAMS!
Ok then, I think I've yet you guys wait long enough.
Stickers (most of it I cant understand lol)
HKS Exhaust
HKS camgears
and a HKS silencer
and a little story, was first going to buy the "HKS ST202 Legal exhaust system"...yeah then it was discontinued, ok so I was a bit disappointed, so I thought ok I'll go for the C-one exhaust... and yup you guessed it... discontinued (if you go onto the http://www.c-one.co.jp/C-ONEPARTS/match-parts_ffcelica.html, you see it says discontinued because of me , so that means none for the BEAMS engine aswell ) So I got the 'HKS Silent Hi power' plus the silencer (just so I dont run into any trouble with the db rating here)
No camshafts yet, I'm still looking around to find the ones I want
and from a while ago which I dont think ive posted, 1.something mm thick sheetmetal for the airbox.
...yup
hahah that's a great shot
looks like a bong, and no i have never used one..
lol @ the silencer
the silent hi-power is an amazing zorst, there are quite a lot of them over here, the sound is beautiful!
your car is the dog's dick
good work bro on the new parts, yeah looking at the muffler it is the same as mine so it'll sound sweet as
Yea I'm pretty sure thats how the silencer fits
OOO very Nice Mods Rusty!!! Im debating the hks hi power exhaust becuase of the way it looks. I've seen from other members stating it sits really low to the ground and the fact that its 65mm piping. at 98db that is considerably louder than the C-One Exhaust. The C-one is rated at 93 db. I wonder how they measure the db rating on exhaust can anybody fill me in with that info. I was thinking about getting a a db reader and taking the reading of my exhaust an post it on the exhaust sound thread.
I don't think you did your homework on the C-one Exhaust their are still some out there on Nengun Auctions!!! http://www.nengun.com/auction/item/t173252626
db rating has been discussed before, check the custom exhaust thread in the NA section. (there are a few different points where they take a reading)
No, reread my above, I never said you cant buy them, I said they were discontinued. C-One don't have any in stock and no longer make them. hmm 65mm lets have a look at a real one, mines 66mm external diameter and 62mm internal....
did you not see the silencer???
Nengun, rhdjapan, fortyone auto. etc (online japanese part shops) lists parts, then you place an order, then they buy from the manufactures, then the shop sends it to you. Just because they have them listed on their website doesn't mean they have in stock or can order it in, since their websites aren't always up to date.
If I remember correctly you and I cant buy in a japanese yahoo auction unless you live in japan (I maybe be wrong). Then you will run into the problem of the muffler attachment C-One made to fit the exhaust for the BEAMS, since you'll need that aswell.
update:
some better detail shots of the exhaust (silencer out, then in)
looking sweet mate bet you can't wait to fit it or going by the offline status i'm guessing you migth be out there throwing it on as i type this
haha, nope just got the ramps from my bro's house today, the weather has been great for it though, just my luck, when I get time it will turn to crap
Hope you have a good flight to Japan btw
How much does this hks zorst weigh btw?
haha look at this is, it's proof of what the vvt-i beams adapter looks like. such a stupid attachment!!
http://www.nengun.com/kakimoto-racing/st202-3s-ge-beams-for-a-muffler-63515
oh and for the love of god please get an exhaust clip of you doing a fly by at 80 mph pinned in 3rd gear going into 4th. I want to hear your exhaust scream!!!
bhhaaa lol
not 100% sure about that, don't fancy a fine and demerit points
anyway Whatthe, the weights
front 4.1 kg mid 2.5 kg end 8.1kg Total 14.7kg
and the internal diameter are all 57mm (2.25in), except the rear which is 62mm (2.44in)
close up measurements of the exhaust for bonzaicelica
end
so yesterday, we sprayed some crc stuff on the exhaust bolts right at the back to hopefully lossen the bolts, had good look underneath at the stock setup.
Today, parked it on ramps, and tried lossen the bolts
dang bolts wont come off
tried a few things but they wont move, its quite tricky because of the rubber mounts and the odd nuts they have on. last thing I want to do is round them off.
Any ideas? I've thought about going into an exhaust shop to see if they can loosen them for me.
Are you wanting to keep standard exhaust system??
at this stage, yes
good news, we have managed to lossen 2 bolts in the rear
but the ones next to the cat, wont move, just dont have the extra room to move and use a strong arm.
I did however take a couple of short videos, to hopefully compare the stock and the new HKS exhaust system.
the ones at the CAT will be tough make sure you use a single hex socket or apply some heat
yeah we've been using a hex socket with a mini strong arm bar for the rear one, brake cleaner helped us with the rear ones, just dont have the room underneath needed to get a big strong arm bar in.
sorry both first and the middle pipes are still a 57mm, the end pip starts off 62mm. (sorry if I wasn't clearer with the discription and pictures)
paint ftw
sounds like you might have to hit it with some heat!!
torch em off!
success... the other 2 bolts are off
details to follow later this afternoon
good work mate, can't wait to see it!!
Made some great progress today
So this morning, went to my local goodyear tyre shop (I get mates rates) and put my car on their vehicle hoist. a s14 sil was getting his rear tyres changed (typical ) he came over and had a look at my car, said it was very clean and tidy.
So with a lot more room on the hoist we managed to crack one (finally), but still couldn't get the other to move, until we tried... makita one way (they also do lowering springs lol (angle grinder)) it was a small pneumatic tool, which was surprisingly cool.
So after that, drove home carefully, only a slight exhaust leak, it did make me laugh though.. pbpbpbpbpb down the road we went.
My brother tried to take over arrrgh I'm doing it, go work on your own car, but hey free labour lol
Got the rear wheels on the ramps and and used car jacks on the front for a bit more height (we dont have 4 ramps).
So heres my opinion of the exhaust. great
Install: very simple, lined up with all factory mounts, no rattles etc
Sound: Was expecting a very noticable, sort of a loud idle tone, but was really impressed at how quite it was, very close to factory, and not droney when reving, very quite nosie when crusing along at same speed (still running cat, so would expect to sound louder, gutted) not running the silencer either
Flow: first the factory exhaust small pipe, not very good bends from factory, first muffler free flow. the rear one, very restrictive, so thats why I was expecting a very loud noisey exhaust since the HKS is very free flow.
Look: Was not a fan of the rear cannon muffler, but its growing on me, the shinyness should dull after a while.
pictures:
videos & fitted pictures to follow...
I also noticed, when you watch youtube vids you dont really get the true sound the car makes.
ah yes Rusty, it hurts me to say they a little but you were right! Although I knew that C-One was discontinued their Exhaust for our cars I denied the fact that there was still one out there. I contacted nengun, in which they had two on auction for $815 and another at $915. They then called the provider that was auctioning the C-One exhausts, and they confirmed that they had none in stock. I guess the older have more knowledge/experience. The only other exhaust company to make one new out of the box as listed on the Japanese Website is Fujitsubo Legalis R. It only has a decibal rating of 91 db vs the hks 98 db output. Also the Legalis R is priced at around $1000 plus shipping. HKS is really our only option guys! such little option for price affordability. Then there is always the idea of buying a quality exhaust can and getting custom piping.
what does the silencer put the db rating at? so normal 98 db without silencer and with silencer?
check out these vids of hks hi power on ST202 it sounds so nice!! :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4wjE1NOFok
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLazdOWcjqY
The exhaust will take a while to break in before you get the true sound, right guys!?
hmm, sorry to say, but I thought that might happen... it doesn't idle at 98db (my guess hat would be the max sound if you were using the hks header and gutted cat and exhaust, taking a reading at 6,000rpm)well at the moment, its sounds very much the same as the stock system. but I do expect it to get a little bit louder
anyway I'll add the videos so you can all see/hear (got one with the stock system and the hks system on, and with the silencer added... and no exhaust aswell ) when I when I add the silencer it gets louder, but you'll see why in the videos
hmm lthose pics, looks like the first tube is reversed. the resonator should be away from motor, thats how i installed mine because of space.
hmm no issues with space, there was actually quite a lot of room where it goes and the flanges are different sizes so it can only go in that way The info book it came with, showed the same way I have it
time for some photo's of it on the car me thinks
I'm trying to get a video made up of the factory system and the new one, all in one video. But thats not working, so instead it all be 4 10sec videos
Yeah will try and take some pictures this afternoon, weather isn't that great
Nice looking garage..... oh yeh super sick exhaust!
lol cheers
So working on adding the videos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxYm_--Cmh8&playnext=1&videos=RMSXL-trTl4&feature=mfu_in_order
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQov7KGEiVY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKGV9LUhtQs
although the exhaust sounds loud in this videos, most of the noise still comes from the intake.
Still have heaps of room underneath, so wont have any clearance issues
looks and sounds the goods right there, makes me want to get a new rear muffler though
I demand better videos! You need to do those flyby's I asked and rev it for us!!!
Any Other pics of how the exhaust looks from different angles. That's weird you just dropped the silencer in the and it rattled???
got some more photo's yet?
oh are are you heading down to Palmy for mega meet??
nope not yet
i really want to but, since its HB anniversary I wont be able to make it
hows japan going, you get back about the 25th right? nice signature btw
WOW, that silencer is silent!
And srsly, you barely revved. We need redline, yo. I like the idle sound though.
haha just teasing you at the moment , I think I only revved it to 2,500 in that one.
underneath
coming soon cold airbox... I hope
oh yea I've updated my signature... roll your mouse over it
nothing happens when I roll the mouse over your sig????
does it go under the axle or over the axle. I can't quite tell in the pic????
Leave your mouse on it. It says "cool isn't it?"
lookin good rusty, your car is meca clean, i love it!
yea your right that's what I thought at first, that it did go under the axle. I thought that wasn't the greatest for N/A engines. Don't we need a bit of back pressure?
It seems awfully low to hitting the ground, but making it go under the axle is what gives it that angled look when you mount it. You ended up putting the resonator towards the front part of the car right, and not the other way around like stock setup??
Here is a link to learn all about exhausts http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscellaneous/exhausttheory.htm
It would only go in 1 way because the flanges are different size and it would also hit the tunnel. Here a quicky I did on good old paint.
^nics skills
that looks killer!
see im at a cross road.
my resonator went bad, and i still adore my sp1 muffler.
i may have to get new piping welded on from the muffler back.
that resonator you have there looks great and is quite a bit smaller than stock
haha thats cool. the new system must be a tonne lighter than the stock system.
when u doing the cold air?
it made quite a noticible difference wen i did it in the old ss-iii.
anyways with all these mods uve done there sounds like u got a quick little runner there
thanks, yeah might give the stock one a weigh.
hopefully soon (I keep procrastinating )
good to see you back on
sound clip of you revving the hell out of your exhaust and doing a couple fly by and cruising please!!!
Yeah, what's new Rusty?
By the way BonzaiCelica, Back pressure is a myth for both NA and turbo, it's dyno proven that by having no bends, mufflers, cats, resonators in your exhaust your engine will yeild more horsepower than by having them.
Exhaust tuning is about the exhaust diameter being the correct size for the application as to flow enough so it wont choke the engine at peak power but small enough so that the exhaust pulses dont expand, cool down and therefore slow down. When each exhaust pulse leaves through the piping it creates a vacuum behind it causing it to do 2 beneficial things in terms of total power production,
1. the vacuum created by 1 exhaust pulse exiting helps to pull through the pulse behind it aiding in extracting gasses faster, this reduces energy loss from the piston pushing out the gas (pumping losses).
2. the vacuum also helps pull the intake charge through during the slight overlap period of the cams between the exhaust stroke finishing and the intake stroke starting, this is known as a free supercharging effect.
Adding back pressure into the system reduces the effects of points 1 and 2, and increases pumping losses.
The reason your factory exhaust is so is for a number of reasons none of which include performance.
1. Remove as much noise from the vehicle at all costs
2. Remove as much CO and NO2 emissions from the vehicle at the cost of some performance (a sizable amount)
3. Sensible routing of exhaust piping and components so they dont rub, scrape, bump or rattle, full disregard for good bends for good flow
yes I know that. I remember Rusty sending me a link to everything you just explained except for the exhaust pulses and the vacuum on the intake. If you have the link again rusty please send it my way
hmm interesting, can only get quicker . What about mine compare to your old SS-III?
I have a CT9 off a Starlet, should have full boost by 500rpm... and vacuum again at 4,000rpm
Recently got 2 boxes in the mail, so I thought I'd share with you what they are...
Genuine TRD Carbon Fiber Guage Cluster (83133-ST000) & TRD Carbon Fiber Dash Panel Kit (55401-ST000)
now before anyone asks, they are early TRD parts (as far as I know, they were never on the TRD website like many other things) They are discountinued, and they never made LHD versions.
Installing now
That is sooooooooo awesome!!! I would rock that in a heartbeat, lookin good.
Oh my god those are GORGEOUS.
So I have them all in except for the passengers air vent its too hard to take out, as I'm worried about damaging/breaking stuff
Dude!!!!!!!! How can i get a set of those?
Been looking all over the internet for the dash kit! Soooo lucky.
Never knew they had a cluster surround. It looks nice!
Where did you get them? Nice find!
Wow, that's awesome. I assume you're walking around with only one leg and arm remaining now?
cheers for the comments guys, I'm really happy with these, will take some photots of them installed...minus the passengers side lol
I also bought some white led/bulb things for the guage cluster while I had it out, not as bright and even as I thought it would be
I feel really lucky I found both, as I think they only made a few of these. Ive only heard of a few members having these on here, however no pictures and searching the part numbers only gets you so far. yeah my wallet does feel a bit lighter
Rusty those look fantastic! I can't believe how nice those look. I can't wait to see the "installed" shots.
Your car is a very fine example..... of a TRD catalogue. Lol
sweet stuff there Rusty
where did u find them
haha Clint still has a few more than me
Installed photos: (they dont do justice)
still cant get it off...
Bought them off a japanese car wreaker. I've only ever seen the guage panel once and the panel kit pop a second time, so best of luck finding them and expect to pay alot for them.
however there are these fake ones which I'm guessing sticks onto the factory guage panel
