6G Celicas Forums _ General Discussion _ Today I..........................................

Posted by: manphibian Apr 17, 2010 - 5:19 PM

Here's a thread to post whatever you've done to your car today, big or small, there's always something to do, but not always big enough for it's own thread smile.gif

Should be a good history of the work everyone does on their pride and joy smile.gif

I changed the oil in my rear diff and polished my car smile.gif

Posted by: joesmith94celicagt Apr 17, 2010 - 5:24 PM

I've swapped the 94 GT engine out (276K miles) and mounted up a 96 GT engine (115K miles) and now stuck trying to make all the little connections...hung up on the igniter to distributor...anyone have pics of theirs they wouldn't mind sharing of this connection?

Posted by: Spider77 Apr 17, 2010 - 5:39 PM

Had plans to work on it, install "new" used sunvisors, shifter trim, and other interior parts. But it rained, so I just drove it around instead.

Posted by: HectortheRican Apr 17, 2010 - 5:44 PM

Once again, I adjusted my low beams gaskets because the guy who sold me my 6gc didn't put on all the clips when he installed the HID kit.

Posted by: Shigexile Apr 17, 2010 - 5:46 PM

stared at my celica and smiled... then i parked it reverse into the garage, then smiled a bit more from outside.

Posted by: SwissFerdi Apr 17, 2010 - 5:47 PM

Got up, checked on her in the garage, then went to eat breakfast. Rode to the gym with my mom, walked back, walked past my car, and...that's about it. In an hour she'll get driven.

Posted by: TRDGT4 Apr 17, 2010 - 7:14 PM

Today I anm hopefully buy a few goodies for the GT4 while in Japan again more on that later wink.gif

Posted by: enderswift Apr 17, 2010 - 7:26 PM

....... I parked the celi in my driveway. Washed it. clay bared it. polished it with some rubbing compound. applied back to black to all the plastic/rubber surfaces. washed it again. and waxed it. then I put on the finishing touch with a q-tip and a toothpick to get the extra dried wax out of those hard to reach places. After all that I rubbed my face all over the enormous dent in the rear fender. hit & run for the win...

Posted by: kormysh8 Apr 17, 2010 - 7:29 PM

changed thee oil and belts. and added a toyota emblem to the front : )

Posted by: Zake Apr 17, 2010 - 8:06 PM

went to fix the "surface" rust on the rear 1/4 panel to find out it was rotted all the way through, so i put some bondo on and painted it (doesn't match too much) and will wait till i have money to have it fixed the right way.. (cut and weld in new metal)

Posted by: yarik83 Apr 17, 2010 - 8:39 PM

today i gave keys to my car to a person whom I never seen before with no financial gain on my part.

I also second the notion of admiring the car. I always do...never fail to look back after I park and say "Yup, that's my baby."

Awesome. Did you find your cat BTW? I've had a hell of a week with mine, he almost died from dehydration. He has a benign tumor in his thyroid. All under control now.

Posted by: yarik83 Apr 17, 2010 - 9:36 PM

after 6 days of sleepless nights, countless posters and walking 40 miles through natural preserve armed with a net I was awoken at 1am when the cat decided to come back at 1am. He sniffed his way back and although hungry, dirty and dusty... he is healthy and happy.

Sowwy to hear about your cat mate. Hope your vet gets your kitty back to its lazy state of healthy existence.

Neither can i, im still unsure of the colour.

I dont know if i should have it standard toyota red like before or go for something slightly deeper.

Posted by: manphibian Apr 18, 2010 - 11:21 AM

hmmm tough decision! Red really suits the shape of the car, and the standard red is a nice deep glossy colour when it's shiny smile.gif

I've always thought the metallic RX-8 red is a fantastic colour....!

Posted by: Tom88 Apr 18, 2010 - 11:26 AM

You mean like this?

Thats a lovely colour but im worried if i go to dark the white wheels wont look so good...

Posted by: manphibian Apr 18, 2010 - 11:34 AM

i think it would look ace, it's a similar shade to the original, but pearlescent when the sun is on it....

Whatever red you go for, it will look ace smile.gif

Posted by: 96bluevert Apr 18, 2010 - 11:45 AM

I cleaned out the interior of the Celica and put the OEM floor mats back in.

Good for you dude, I'm happy to hear that as well. I remember I was elated when mine came back after a week of being lost. Fatty's fine now, he's very skinny (down to 8.5 pounds), but he's eating and doing his business again. Anyway, get in chat sometime so we can quit effing up this thread.

And I drove my friend back to her house, and on the way back proceeded to try to burn off the rest of these Potenzas. As my tires are complete crap and need replacing, I'm going to be taking the tC wheels off when the rain season starts (probably now, so they might come off tonight depending on this week's weather report) and put the ol' steelies back on. tC wheels are getting a repaint. wink.gif

Posted by: Tech-Nics Apr 18, 2010 - 4:12 PM

Washed my car for the 5th time in 3 weeks cause it gets dirty from particles in the air. Cleaned out my engine bay area with a wet/dry vac. Also my trunk and cabin. Then cleaned my rims and dried everything with a leather dry rag. Stared at him for about 5 minuets and then yelled at my wife for putting her finger prints on my car and wiped him down all over again. Then gently back my car ass first into the garage and watched the door close and then went and played some xbox 360.

Today i..................................... went to work, ate breakfast at tha taqueria, worked a bit, got some free KFC cause everyone that worked there was stoned as sh!t- and didn't remember to ring me up (retards) went home, pulled out my distributor cap, attempted some half-brained mod (that actually worked half decently; not enough but half decently) and think i may have a temp solution to run this blown ass engine far enough to put it into the location that i'll swap in the new one.

maybe...

Hey ferdi did u look at your car today?

LOL!

Went and saw Leonard (Flyinglizard), bought some 2-way radios so we could chit chat it up, went with to poons, met up with Andrew (CelicaST_CALI), questioned poon about what he had, bought euro tails and a GT4 gauge cluster from poon, witnessed a bird fly into my car, went and ate subway with the celica crew, came home, Leonard helped me find my short and also gave me some blue LED lights for my gauge cluster.

Was a good day today for the Celi. Minus the bird. LOL

Oh, almost forgot.

Wrote "SUPRA" on the back off my car it was so dirty (Andrew's idea)

Hahahahaha.

See you guys at MotY! laugh.gif

got hit by some handicap driving man. i was driving he pulled out infront of me and i went to get in the left lane, honked and he swerved and hit me didnt think it was that but but it was the whole front passenger side fender is covered in dents. the guy didnt even get out to look at mine but he sure as hell looked at his. all his had was white paint from my car.. i should have got his insurance :-( so now i'm looking for a front passenger side fender preferrably super white!

Shoulda chased his ass down! I would of pulled him out of the seat and commenced the pummeling! Sorry, but had about enough of freggin DFW drivers.

Posted by: zfjohnson07 Apr 24, 2010 - 6:13 PM

well he slowed down because i didnt think i hit him i pulled over and got out and i was like ddamnnn and he got out walked around his car and i walked towards him and he was like oh not bad just some paint on my bumper and i was like well **** my cars messed up. and he was like well what do you want to do and i was like nothing theres nothing you can do.

Got home and tried to fix it.. and like i said looking for a fender now i guess.. figured it might be easier to do that than to get it fixed

Posted by: playr158 Apr 24, 2010 - 7:27 PM

installed coilovers and lowered the car about 4", ordered spacers cause my wheels hit the coils. (so right now i'm rubbing my sway bar to axel, tire to coil, tire to fender liner)
finished painting and reassembling 2 of my BBS 2 piece wheels.
started sanding the other 2 BBS wheel faces and started polishing the lips.
arranged for cool carbon fiber parts to be picked up in two weeks

Posted by: Spider77 Apr 24, 2010 - 7:28 PM

Far too many "likes" there. So he pretty much said he did rub on your fender, and you said "OK". For the most part that is what it looks like.

I picked up my friend and went to see Date Night (which sucked). Proceeded to drive home and I took a different route to make the tires squeal a bit in the corners. Then we went home and I made her squ...never mind. Then I drove her home at 5 AM and thankfully, the road to her house is also quite twisty. Sprinklers and wet corners aren't my friends...but a lowered Celi sure is. wink.gif

I was also planning on washing her today since that hasn't happened since 2/19 (yes I'm terrible) and I wanted to install the eyelids...but an essay that has to be done tomorrow and an essay that has to be half completed by tonight got the better of me. kindasad.gif

here's the result:

Today I removed my subs and my amp, because I got a short on my gauges with my lights... Went to the store thinking all of them went out for some dumb reason... Then I took it apart, they were fine. Then back to the store for fuses as I realized the one went out, bought like 20 in case I blow up many of them mapping the source. On the way home, my amp blew because smoke came out from my hatch as if something was on fire, embarrassing me in front of the cars around me as the stupid stop light was taking forever... Got home, took it out and seen a complete wire came out of it's silicone or whatever insulation. Removed that, rewired it... Amp is toast and didn't pull a Lazarus. So I took out all that crap.... :_-(

I need one of those when the new tires go on. And I HATE mechanics sitting in my car. mad.gif Also, did you get a camber kit? I know my fronts are fine, the rears have maybe a degree or two, I'm not too schooled on what camber specifically looks like as far as degrees go.

BTW, ever find your issue with the clunking? I checked my spring a few days ago, it's seated pretty tightly as far as movement tolerance goes, although I didn't check if it was fully seated in the strut itself as the car was on the ground.

I get fidgety anytime someone other than myself or my girlfriend is sitting in the driver's seat or working on her. I didn't get a camber kit...from the reading on the specs sheet I didn't need one.

I did solve my issue with the clunking; just as pitfire stated my end link on the driver's side was busted - I replaced both sides and the clunking is gone, the car feels tighter in turns, and I'm satisfied.

Now to replace the rims and tires.

Either a secret prototype spoiler that you guys don't know about, or it's a license plate holder. You pick.

Posted by: Tom88 May 7, 2010 - 4:11 PM

Doesnt look like either to me....never seen anything like that before thats all. Looks like a bump strip kinda?

That black thing is a blacked out sidemarker, like an extra indicator.... they have to have them over there..... Look rubbish don't they tongue.gif

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah, I thought you meant the plate holder. That's a blacked-out USDM side marker, since I didn't really think clear ones would fit. Your indicators are placed further back on the wing, behind the wheel, and they're smaller and more rounded.

Like Luke said, it looks turrible. tongue.gif

Test drove this:

It surprised me. Had a very good ride, even on 22's, but it felt lighter than it really is. 425 horses obviously didn't hurt, and it felt plenty powerful, but for some reason not like 425; not sure why, it's probably due to the weight of the thing and also due to my inexperience with horsepower level. It did have a K&N SRI and Borla exhaust, so it sounded excellent. All in all, it really surprised me as a car. But, it also put the Celica into perspective. I thought I'd hate my car, but the only thing I missed is power. The Celica still feels much more nimble and strangely, just as refined. I also realize now that the sightlines are awesome on our cars, probably due to the seating position.

Also saw this:

'96 TT auto, bone stock. Seriously, no mods. Only 56,xxx miles, the dealership was asking 35k for it. I asked for a test drive, didn't work. frown.gif

Will second that, good ride, but strangely lacking that "feel". Love the rating out of factory (friend has Daytona version), great car, but seems to be missing everything on twists. Great in a line though (still wont beat a T/A stock vs Stock)...from what I've seen personally.

I have been looking after the tyres / engine e.t.c. and there are long road work sections (40mph speed limits) which helps the fuel economy.

Nah, not a record at all. I'm not sure where you got 50 mpg from though... Assuming you went exactly 520 miles and used exactly the 15.9 gallons of fuel that a Celica holds, you got just a little over 32 mpg (32.7). I'm also using US numbers- not sure if other Celicas in the world have different size gas tanks. In my old ST, I got 34-35 mpg highway, ~30 in town. In my GT, I was averaging 30-32. Keep in mind that I drive mostly highway miles. Not bad though! Try and keep it up!

Spider, I feel your pain. That SUCKS.

And I did this yesterday, so forgive me, but:

Last picture of the tC wheels in OEM form. I'm having the tires taken off and then they're getting some paint. biggrin.gif Steelies are back on for now.

Dang, you're going to have yours painted before I do. What color are you doing; black with red pinstripe like you mentioned before?

Nah, I dropped that idea...I decided that I don't want them that dark. Basically, I'm just going a few shades darker but staying in the color range. wink.gif I almost don't want to paint because the silver of the wheels matches the Alpine Silver perfectly, but alas the wheels are eaten up, and I just want them to look good.

Plugged my EGR intake with a piece of a red bull can to troubleshoot on going issues.

Distributor recieved today, doing that after work...yay!

That sounds pretty awesome. Make sure to use Tal-strip to remove the paint...it works without any real scraping unlike Rustoleum which took hours to scrape after numerous coats of their paint remover.

Today I.......................................... drove to work on my brand-new-road-hazard-warranty replaced Yokohama S.Drive and now all is right with the world. biggrin.gif

Tomorrow I get my rear windows retinted (I dinged up the tint on the hatch pretty badly, so I'm having the rear 3 redone) from 35% to 20%. Fronts will remain 35% so I can keep it legal.

Since rolling the rear fenders this past sunday and no more rubbing, I was finally able to get my new tires put on. Based on my 16 mile trip home, so far I love my four new Yokohama ADVAN S4's biggrin.gif
