Posted by: Mynzeyes Mar 19, 2005 - 1:53 AM

yep yep. mine had all the options too from what i understand. iono. someone told me you can get them from the yota dealer for about 30 bucks or somethin...don't think it's worth it. but that's pretty neat. smile.gif.

Posted by: Zimluura Mar 19, 2005 - 1:59 AM

that's cool man! if you could do a quick writeup that'd be sweet. i need to change mine to blue.

is it a 194 bulb in there? or something else?

Posted by: blackbullet Mar 19, 2005 - 2:28 AM

as for mine..i colored it permanent red...i did blue before and looks really nice..but my guages are red and i also colored my ac and all the little stuff red so it goes...but i just used permanent marker....i tried a little LED blue bulb in there and looks really nice...

Posted by: juBz86 Mar 19, 2005 - 8:52 AM

yea theres a little orange bulb w/a condom on it. its smaller than a 194. there are a lot of ways you could change the color of the bulb. i'll post i little write up later. promise biggrin.gif

cool, thanks. but if you're bussy, no worries. i read another post that said it was a 74 bulb. my main question is: do you need to use that crazy acc key setting (the shop manual i just got said something about this) to take the ignition out? or can it be disassembled (enough) without putting the key in the ignition?

thanks

Posted by: juBz86 Mar 21, 2005 - 12:15 PM

ok sorry for being mad late with this!

user posted image

first thing. pop off the the plastic piece that covers the ignition keyhole.^^VV

user posted image

user posted image
then look under the keyhole for a small screw.^^

user posted image
pull off the clear plastic piece which should be connected to the bulb^^

user posted image
twist off the bulb and you're left with is the plastic piece (you might want to take off the green condom)^^

i ended up makeing a little enclosure out of red divider tabs. you could take out the bulb. i dont know if they make the bulbs in different colors but you take it out to napa or somewhere and check if they make them in different colors.

o yea then just put every thing back 2gether.

Posted by: Drocay Mar 21, 2005 - 12:21 PM

just to let u guys know i think thats a 74 bulb.

Posted by: Drocay Mar 21, 2005 - 12:22 PM

http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm

carries them in 4 different colors led.

Posted by: initialdrift55 Mar 21, 2005 - 1:36 PM

sweet looks pretty easy i think i might do this...i want it in blue..i gotta find the how-to so i can do the cooling panel and dash n stuff

Posted by: ArizonaRed Mar 22, 2005 - 12:29 AM

I have to take my dash apart anyway so im doing it. The cig lighter is easy to change the light....just twist the side connector and light pops out. dont bother with the lighter itself, i had to clean mine cuz it was so dirty and it was a bastard to take apart.
does anybody know if the celica comes stock with an ignition light bc my gt is lit up and i just noticed that my st didnt, either it went out or it doesnt have one.
Jubz86, did you change your ac unit to green also? i am wondering how i disconnect the cables from it (one is such a pain).
I can post pics if naybody wants.

Posted by: droptopGT Mar 22, 2005 - 2:56 AM

yeah. thanks for the write up.. looks sweet biggrin.gif

Posted by: Nemises Mar 22, 2005 - 3:09 PM

nice. Ha mine burnt out so long ago I actually forgot those light up at all.

Posted by: juBz86 Mar 22, 2005 - 3:29 PM

its way better than that suckie stock green! glad everyone found it useful

Posted by: Zimluura Mar 23, 2005 - 6:13 PM

just did mine in blue. had to file down the num74 led a little before it'd fit without deforming the socket too much for that to fit back into the transparent ring. the socket thing was sorta square-ish.

got the file out, laid it on the table, gripped the led in some plyers, then took a few long swipes down each of the 4 directions to...square-off-the circumference??

anyways, thanks again for the writeup. when i figure out how to work this digital camera i'll take some pics.

Posted by: ArizonaRed Mar 24, 2005 - 1:41 AM

Yeah i had the same prob with the 74 for the ignition. The ST does not come with a clear ignition light. I took the one off of the gt and put it on my st. changed the clock light. Heres some pics.

Posted by: CelicaRacer97 Apr 1, 2005 - 12:27 AM

haha yeah this was one of the first things i had done to my celi when i first bought it in 97' i used red plastic tabs to change the ugly green color

http://www.6gc.net/photo.php?file=/images/member_photos/2975_6.jpg

almost everything except for the radio. i kinda messed up the climate control.

Posted by: Galcobar Apr 15, 2005 - 1:55 AM

I'd love to do this, especially now that I've finally got directions (or at least somebody to harass) on changing the clock colour. Problem is, I just installed my 200W Alpine deck and specifically got a black face and green display to match the rest of the car. mad.gif

Oh well, at least I can fix the ignition light.

i think im gunna put red leds under my dash so even my floors red too lol

Posted by: ILuvMyCelica95 Apr 13, 2006 - 2:28 PM

whats the size for the bulb around the ciggy lighter? i kinda smushed mine... lol

Posted by: Zimluura Apr 13, 2006 - 2:36 PM

the cig lighter is a strange toyota bulb with a huge base. i got a num74led and then smashed the hell out of the toyota bulb and then put the led in there. didn't even use solder, just bent it the right way. hasn't failed on me yet (about 1 year) though i might replace it with a soldered led+resistor series at a later date. the plastic ring is more translucent than transparent, and even the stock toyota bulb didn't light the ring very well.

very interesting post. I will see about doing a blue color, i have seen in a corolla 9th generation website how this guy used permanent marker and painted all his lights blue, even the stereo. Ill see how that one works, thanks...

Posted by: Random_Stranger Mar 26, 2007 - 11:09 AM

Thanks for the write up. I love what you did. Did you get the color gauges? Or did you get the red LEDs for it?

Hey, where do you get those colored tabs at? I need some red ones.

Posted by: DSToyo Mar 26, 2007 - 12:12 PM

you know this thing is like two years old, right.
you can get plastic folder tabs at walmart, they work pretty well, i used them on my clock and ignition ring.

LOL I had no idea. Thanks man. I am a new person.

Posted by: njccmd2002 Mar 27, 2007 - 5:49 PM

I broke the lighter bulb, how can i replace it, it sucks. By the way I am dipping my regular bulbs in blue paint for glass that i got in walmart for 2 bucks. Its a cheaper option.

what size LED is the clock, and the window controls.

What is the difference between wagner 194 and Sylvana 72 thye look the same. Which one should i use.

On another note, i have replaced the bulb for the bin on the passenger site, however it does not lght up, anyone has an exp. I dont think they will make a fuse just for this, since everythig else works fine. thanks...

Posted by: jordisonjr Feb 10, 2009 - 6:51 PM

Any one know what the light in the Cig. ring wouldn't be working? the bulb is still in one piece and appears to be fine

Posted by: zfjohnson07 Oct 2, 2009 - 9:13 PM

this is probably a dumb question but can you do a write up on how to change the gauges to glow gauges. just wanted to see how so when i get that far with my car i'll be prepared
