So I've desided I want to downsize to just having one celica of my own. So I'm going to swap the v6 into the coupe.
I figure this is a better time than never to get make a thread going into as much detail as I can about the swap.
This will mainly be for us that don't live in the smog Nazi states lol.
But will try to make the thread as smog friendly as I can
OK let get to it

You know I'd be up there to lend a hand if I didn't have to work. Now get off 6gc and get that V6 into a new home!
I agree with Daniel. Get some more kerosene and get to work. I especially will be following this and taking lots of notes :-). You know why.
No worries dan!
An I'll make you have all the info you need tom
Were gonna bust out as much as we can with as many pics as I can tomorrow
Chill guys. You know it's getting done shortly cause I won't let him stop. Even though I have done most of what got done today....lol but most of the rest will be him. Today we will be having a few friends over so we will have an extra set of hands in on the pulling. If there is any questions or certain things anyone needs to know post them and we will answer.
I expect to see TRD skirts on as well... Lol
Ima be following this thread. Lol. Please if you can take as many pics of the mods you've done. Lol.
Air compressor isn't that big mine is a 20gal tank it takes up as much space as a stack of wheels/tires.
Anyway a question I never asked: does the 1mz use premium fuel?
It sounds like it would work.
I just have to see it in person to fully understand how its put together
Finally got the 1mz out of the yellow celica
Post pictures!
YEAH PICTURES! Just think though, you've already done it once so it'll be easy this time around.
Sorry guys .didn't really take any pics
I know Liz has a couple I'll have her upload them an I'll get them posted
Sorry the lack of pictures is due to a lack of work so far
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
There are some pics I sent them to him earlier he just haven't done anything with them yet
^
Well well then, someone gots some 'splaining to do.
I gotta pikture.......
OK OK OK already
Man!!! I so need to do this!!!
That's all there is right now
Its not exactly warm here ATM lol
Just saw this thread - it's gonna be good!
Kurt and Liz take your time and keep warm - the car/swap will still be there once the ice/snow thaws.
This is going to be one clean, mean coupe!
It would be nice to have a good garage to work in since we have all this time off of work. Boo for having a ****ty garage. .lol
big space heater....haha
Once all the ice is gone well be getting the coupe back in the garage an start getting work done
Just need to deside if I'm paint the valve covers a different color or not
Hmm, paint them metallic black or anthracite.
Slow progress but still progress none the less
Clean engine bay
Semi clean trans.
Hoping to finish all my cleaning this weekend an maybe start getting everything painted
Finally got another break in the below freezing temps we've had an got some more work done.
Block is clean an painted.
Trans is done
Desided to paint the timing cover
Still not 100% sure if I like it or not but its done.
Hopefully tomorrow I can get the motor an trans back together.
At least the motor is back in the car. Not done yet but had a friend come up and helped Kurt get it that far
I'll get this updated after this weekend.
The motors in now just have to hook it all back up
Goal was to finish it this weekend but unfortunately I was sick Sunday
Sorry to hear you were sick, but at least you're really close to being done.
Oooh, surprises.
For those of you that don't have Facebook
She's running again an starting to look like a real celica again
I will be setting Down in the near future to do a full write up on the fist post with pics an part numbers on the first page
I've seen the Facebook picture. It's looking great.
I have facebook, but refuse to use it. So post pictures here please.
What are you using for shift cable bushings? Looks like dirty rubber ones to me....
Might I recommend a set of these....
http://twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_35&products_id=949
Also, on a semi-related note - I changed my rear bank valve cover gasket last weekend, and I realized how much of a PITA it is to get back there. I had to remove pretty much all of the vac lines up top, remove the upper intake manifold, wrestle with the harness, blah blah blah blah.
Pish posh. Make it fit.
I had a set I put on my e153.
They work ok but when I tried to remove them they were rusted and seized onto the arms in no time. Destroyed them getting them off.
Waste of $ for me.
Yea I'm not gonna worry about them for now.
Need a y pipe first lol
Yes I very much like the facelift front Oh, and that V6 thing is nice too!
Teaser pic for the non Facebook ppl
Looks fantastic!!! Get it finished so you can make some Honduh kids cry themselves to sleep.
I would watch that race, loving the build.
Kurt,. found a couple of these on toyota nation,.
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/66-car-parts-sale/699265-1mzfe-supercharger-f-s.html
This one is at 2500 but there was another for 2k since you're one of the 1mz pioneers, you should probably be first with this, and share your experience, so I know if it is worth the $$$
Too bad they cost too much money for not a lot of power.
With that money you'd be better off doing a custom turbo setup.
If I s/c I'm going with a custom setup instead of the TRD s/c
Plus I don't have anywhere close tontge funds needed to buy that right now
I'm noticing the same funding problem as I added the new shell to my project,. funds are drying up fast,... have to do my real job rather than work on my cars for a while.
Same problem
I just need to find time to get the rest of my parts installed lol
Coming together nicely I think.
After this I command you work on the Nova.
Good.
Exhaust was getting done today and the test will be to go to IFO this Sunday so hopefully there is no hiccups
I cant wait to see this beast at IFO and of course watch it beat some hondass
Really need to do the write up in this thread
Sorry I haven't guys.
Here's some pics of her at import face off Ohio
Pic taken by ifo for there Facebook page
Engine pic by another photographer
Nice back to front shot
The ifo girls an Liz decided to do a small photoshoot
Aj, myself, an the amazing man himself DEATH!!!
Another good side shot
Good engine bay shot
Awesome but the details are not there as you promised!😥 Love the lip, what is it? I noticed you pulled this engine out of another celica... What was wrong with it? I really want to do this swap, will have to ask you for details later when the swap happens.
The lip is a euro lip. There wasn't anything wrong with the other Celica. It was our test car.
Yes I really need to find time to do the write up on my swap for this celica.
The full build up of the yellow celica before I pulled it apart is on here in much detail
Parts list added to first page.
Hopefully be adding more over the long weekend
Woooo, Kurt is back!
I'm going to try an be more active
I miss you guys
Plus once I work out all the details I got alil surprise coming up
Surprise you say?
Yeah, that's killing me,.. what's Kurt up to now? What do I need to buy next? I haven't even finished my v6 swap yet.
Yep an it'll stay that way for now lol.
I'll have to post up my lil side project later on too
No one cares about your Fiesta, Kurt.
Now get your ass back on here and finish my damn write up! If this were ctech, I'd be holding the ban hammer so high over your head right now......
Lol I've got a 4 day weekend with free time an will try to do the write up this weekend lol.
An its a festiva dang it
Shows my lack of caring about it. ;P
Old really crappy Festiva or newer not as bad version?
You decide for yourself box
That could've been Nova or Celica money, you shame me. D:
Bad Kurt, that's not even a Toyota, for shame.
Do you need a good Toyota to invest in? I've found a good mr2 with a locked up motor that I was considering, but my driveway is getting pretty full.
Well, in that case I guess I can forgive you.
How much hp are you getting from the 1MZ?
I'm doing this regardless. Anything is better than a 7A!
Oh yea its a big jump over the 7a.
I still love the fact if I don't get on it the 1mz feels no different than the 5s does.
But I've also been told my old 5s ran better than most so idk lol
i put 240 TQ and 220 HP to the wheels in my 3MZ swap
IF i could afford another motor I'd pick up a 3mzin a heartbeat.
The extra power would be worth every penny
Trade the Festiva for a 3MZ.
its not a hybrid engine. the engine is 100% 3MZ-FE im using a 1MZ intake manifold and throttle body, 2000 Solara Manual transmission headers, and 97 Camry ECU.
Getting ready to park her for the winter.
this winters plans are to swap to returnless fuel system
install my 1mz vvti exhaust cams an the dual throttle body intake.
An hopefully finally install my st sway bars an the kyb gr2s I got laying around from a parts celica
I demand an update!
blasphemy!
As liz said she's put up for the winter.
haven't had time to start any projects on her as of yet.
hoping to figure out the 3 wire tps swap soon tho.
then I can do the throttle body swap
So the bumper has been refixed....lol not back on the car yet but our buddy just finished it
Kurt,
Did you get an idea what the fuel economy is like on this swap? Im looking for more power but I dont want to run premium in my daily, this could be the ticket if the MPG is right
Also check out http://www.xiiimotorsports.com/index.php/ptfe-lined-spherical-bearing-shift-cable-bushings.html
If your interested in the bushings, I make the adapter to fit our celicas
A little anti seize or grease with prevent any rusting. I use a disposable glove zip tied on the end to keep the dust out
If I keep my foot out of the thottest and drive with a brain I can get mid 20s out of it (24-26)
Mind you this is mixed driving an I'm running a s54.
I've talkyd to a couple guys with mr2s the end series Trans will net higher mpg an a s54 with a s51 5th gear can get 30mpg if you don't beat on your car
i get mid 20s in mine too. if I drive it to Vegas i get about 32 on the highway
Considering a V6 Solara is rated at 22/28 or so, and the Celica weighs some 600 pounds less you'll at least get 22/28 and most likely net a notable improvement in city mileage. Highway mileage would come down more to aerodynamics.
This is true box but the gearing in the s54 brings the mpg down some because I'm at higher rpms than it would be in a solara
So the mpg drops back down some lol
Hmm, get the E153 or swap in the Camry 5th gear into the S54!
That's my plan at some point
Somehow i always come back to this thread hahah
This thread is teasing me.....
Least you've been for a ride Tom lol
Update time!
finally got coilovers!
Coilovers installed an new rims put on
An her cleaned up an looking good at Ohio ifo
Yay updates! Should stop in more often. *cough*
Yup, right at a year ago now I sold it ironically after deciding to keep it. I still drop by every day for the most part, all the other car forums out there pretty much suck. I liked the Celica but it was just a little too lacking in grunt in ST trim, I've on and off considered getting a GT to 1MZ swap.
Oh yeah, I also sold it because it was red.
So then I replaced it with a red '79 Firebird, at least I solved the power issue.
You should join the madness in the off topic Today I...... thread.
Good point
don't know why I havent
I understand your 6gc and the spyder in the picture, but what was that camry doing there? lol
I'll take a wild guess and say it was a Toyota meet.
Import face off we were all there supporting Toyota enthusiasts.
The camry has bc coilovers TRD rims an a few other Lil things. Not as stock as it looks. Plus he drove 6 hours to hang out for the day lol.
Everyone loves me and told me to stay, so yeah.
Alrighty, back to Kurt.
Looking to do this swap. I found a 1999 solara engine for real cheap it's got 400000km on it. But I plan on doing a rebuild in my garage over the winter. Is the list at the beginning of the thread everything you would need to do the swap? Will my s54 clutch disk and pressure plate work with this setup? Where does the extra engine mount need to be? Sorry for all the questions. I have a 95 gt standard.
read my threads, its in there
Really need to update this some an work on it some again
Been setting because of cv shafts an wheel bearing issues . Hopefully after we finish moving this month I can get her back on the road
