6G Celicas Forums _ My Project _ the big thread of 1mz stuff

Posted by: kurt95gt Dec 26, 2013 - 11:51 PM

So I've desided I want to downsize to just having one celica of my own. So I'm going to swap the v6 into the coupe.
I figure this is a better time than never to get make a thread going into as much detail as I can about the swap.
This will mainly be for us that don't live in the smog Nazi states lol.
But will try to make the thread as smog friendly as I can tongue.gif

Chill guys. You know it's getting done shortly cause I won't let him stop. Even though I have done most of what got done today....lol but most of the rest will be him. Today we will be having a few friends over so we will have an extra set of hands in on the pulling. If there is any questions or certain things anyone needs to know post them and we will answer.

We will do as many pics as we can. I will make sure of it.

Air compressor isn't that big mine is a 20gal tank it takes up as much space as a stack of wheels/tires.

Anyway a question I never asked: does the 1mz use premium fuel?

Only if your running a es300 ecu

QUOTE (K-ESD @ Aug 28, 2006 - 3:18 PM) *
This engine uses a returnless fuel system, basicly a ordinary fuel pump with the regulator inside the tank. I adapted this system by swaping out my 5SFE pump for a sienna pump (bolt on, plug and play), hacked off a section off the steel return line next to the pump, strapped on the regulator and Tee-d the main line to the return line on top of the fuel pump cap.

What do you think? Lol. It's from his v6 swap.

Posted by: kurt95gt Dec 27, 2013 - 9:07 PM

It sounds like it would work.
I just have to see it in person to fully understand how its put together

Posted by: Keiri Jan 7, 2014 - 1:47 PM

Just saw this thread - it's gonna be good!

Kurt and Liz take your time and keep warm - the car/swap will still be there once the ice/snow thaws.

This is going to be one clean, mean coupe!

Posted by: bluecelicawife Jan 7, 2014 - 2:11 PM

It would be nice to have a good garage to work in since we have all this time off of work. Boo for having a ****ty garage. .lol

Posted by: mkernz22 Jan 7, 2014 - 2:12 PM

big space heater....haha

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 7, 2014 - 6:48 PM

Once all the ice is gone well be getting the coupe back in the garage an start getting work done
Just need to deside if I'm paint the valve covers a different color or not

Posted by: Box Jan 8, 2014 - 12:04 AM

Hmm, paint them metallic black or anthracite. redface.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 23, 2014 - 9:29 AM

Slow progress but still progress none the less

Clean engine bay

Semi clean trans.
Hoping to finish all my cleaning this weekend an maybe start getting everything painted

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 8, 2014 - 8:54 PM

Finally got another break in the below freezing temps we've had an got some more work done.

Block is clean an painted.

Trans is done

Desided to paint the timing cover
Still not 100% sure if I like it or not but its done.
Hopefully tomorrow I can get the motor an trans back together.

Posted by: bluecelicawife Mar 17, 2014 - 1:03 PM

At least the motor is back in the car. Not done yet but had a friend come up and helped Kurt get it that far

Posted by: kurt95gt Mar 17, 2014 - 11:20 PM

What are you using for shift cable bushings? Looks like dirty rubber ones to me....

Might I recommend a set of these....

http://twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_35&products_id=949

Also, on a semi-related note - I changed my rear bank valve cover gasket last weekend, and I realized how much of a PITA it is to get back there. I had to remove pretty much all of the vac lines up top, remove the upper intake manifold, wrestle with the harness, blah blah blah blah.

" **these do not fit the 93-99 celica,"

Pish posh. Make it fit.

Posted by: Batman722 Apr 2, 2014 - 9:35 PM

I had a set I put on my e153.
They work ok but when I tried to remove them they were rusted and seized onto the arms in no time. Destroyed them getting them off.
Waste of $ for me.

Kurt,. found a couple of these on toyota nation,.

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/66-car-parts-sale/699265-1mzfe-supercharger-f-s.html

This one is at 2500 but there was another for 2k since you're one of the 1mz pioneers, you should probably be first with this, and share your experience, so I know if it is worth the $$$

Posted by: 95CelicaST Apr 4, 2014 - 10:34 AM

Too bad they cost too much money for not a lot of power.

With that money you'd be better off doing a custom turbo setup.

Posted by: kurt95gt Apr 4, 2014 - 12:46 PM

If I s/c I'm going with a custom setup instead of the TRD s/c

Plus I don't have anywhere close tontge funds needed to buy that right now

Posted by: sandusky1977 Apr 4, 2014 - 12:55 PM

I'm noticing the same funding problem as I added the new shell to my project,. funds are drying up fast,... have to do my real job rather than work on my cars for a while.

Awesome but the details are not there as you promised!😥 Love the lip, what is it? I noticed you pulled this engine out of another celica... What was wrong with it? I really want to do this swap, will have to ask you for details later when the swap happens.

Posted by: bluecelicawife May 8, 2014 - 11:33 AM

The lip is a euro lip. There wasn't anything wrong with the other Celica. It was our test car.

I still love the fact if I don't get on it the 1mz feels no different than the 5s does.
But I've also been told my old 5s ran better than most so idk lol

Posted by: Smaay Jul 5, 2014 - 10:30 AM

its not a hybrid engine. the engine is 100% 3MZ-FE im using a 1MZ intake manifold and throttle body, 2000 Solara Manual transmission headers, and 97 Camry ECU.

haven't had time to start any projects on her as of yet.
hoping to figure out the 3 wire tps swap soon tho.
then I can do the throttle body swap

Posted by: bluecelicawife Jan 6, 2015 - 8:28 PM

So the bumper has been refixed....lol not back on the car yet but our buddy just finished it

Posted by: klue Jan 6, 2015 - 8:43 PM

Kurt,

Did you get an idea what the fuel economy is like on this swap? Im looking for more power but I dont want to run premium in my daily, this could be the ticket if the MPG is right

Also check out http://www.xiiimotorsports.com/index.php/ptfe-lined-spherical-bearing-shift-cable-bushings.html

If your interested in the bushings, I make the adapter to fit our celicas smile.gif
A little anti seize or grease with prevent any rusting. I use a disposable glove zip tied on the end to keep the dust out tongue.gif

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 7, 2015 - 9:17 AM

If I keep my foot out of the thottest and drive with a brain I can get mid 20s out of it (24-26)
Mind you this is mixed driving an I'm running a s54.

I've talkyd to a couple guys with mr2s the end series Trans will net higher mpg an a s54 with a s51 5th gear can get 30mpg if you don't beat on your car

Posted by: Smaay Jan 7, 2015 - 1:13 PM

i get mid 20s in mine too. if I drive it to Vegas i get about 32 on the highway

Posted by: Box Jan 7, 2015 - 2:04 PM

Considering a V6 Solara is rated at 22/28 or so, and the Celica weighs some 600 pounds less you'll at least get 22/28 and most likely net a notable improvement in city mileage. Highway mileage would come down more to aerodynamics.

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 16, 2015 - 8:46 PM

This is true box but the gearing in the s54 brings the mpg down some because I'm at higher rpms than it would be in a solara
So the mpg drops back down some lol

Posted by: Box Jan 16, 2015 - 9:07 PM

Hmm, get the E153 or swap in the Camry 5th gear into the S54!

Posted by: kurt95gt Jan 16, 2015 - 11:36 PM

That's my plan at some point

Kurt, don't mean to hi Jack here....

Box I thought you sold your car because you hated it's lack of power?

Posted by: Box Apr 26, 2015 - 10:41 PM

Yup, right at a year ago now I sold it ironically after deciding to keep it. I still drop by every day for the most part, all the other car forums out there pretty much suck. I liked the Celica but it was just a little too lacking in grunt in ST trim, I've on and off considered getting a GT to 1MZ swap.

Oh yeah, I also sold it because it was red. tongue.gif

So then I replaced it with a red '79 Firebird, at least I solved the power issue.

I understand your 6gc and the spyder in the picture, but what was that camry doing there? lol

Posted by: Box Apr 27, 2015 - 10:47 PM

I'll take a wild guess and say it was a Toyota meet.

Posted by: kurt95gt Apr 27, 2015 - 11:07 PM

Import face off we were all there supporting Toyota enthusiasts.
The camry has bc coilovers TRD rims an a few other Lil things. Not as stock as it looks. Plus he drove 6 hours to hang out for the day lol.

Ok, I was just curious. Seemed kind of weird to troll a forum for a car you don't own.... Lmfao. But if you like the people than I guess it's alright... Lol

Yeah, that's killing me,.. what's Kurt up to now? What do I need to buy next? I haven't even finished my v6 swap yet.

OMG, just reading back through everyone's V6 thread to see if I missed anything as I'm working on it right now, and found one of my own comments from just short of a year ago,. I can't believe I sat on my pile of parts this long. I've had everything except the clutch kit and flywheel for almost a year.

Looking to do this swap. I found a 1999 solara engine for real cheap it's got 400000km on it. But I plan on doing a rebuild in my garage over the winter. Is the list at the beginning of the thread everything you would need to do the swap? Will my s54 clutch disk and pressure plate work with this setup? Where does the extra engine mount need to be? Sorry for all the questions. I have a 95 gt standard.
