Full Version: Another tranny question

A Celica or any other Toyota FWD car has the shift mechanism coming out of
the back of the tranny, near the firewall. The cables come from the shifter
and connect to it. An MR2 tranny has the mechanism on the front of the
tranny, so they would be near the radiator in a Celica....... How are the
shift cables going to reach that?
The MR2 has them on the opposite side, because the shift cables come
out the firewall behind the driver and connect to the front of the
tranny..... You can convert the tranny to FWD mechanism, but it is
difficult and expensive. (at least to do it right it is!) The Solara V6
FWD 5 speed is the same as an MR2 turbo tranny, but has the mechanism in the
right place....

Do you see what I am saying? I might have a picture that I can show you...

or

BTW: JG, are you using the alltrac cables or the 6th gens?

Super: I bought an MR2T clip so I know I am not using alltrac cables. My guess is that I will be using the 6th gen cables but perhaps cables need to be sourced. I will ask my mechanic the next time I talk with him.

thanks

but the guys at my local toyota dealership and my self are stumped as to what parts to order, i can't find any in a junk yard, does anyone know part numbers or a website i can order off of

and the info about the axels, will it work on a 6th gen or just 5th gens.
jgreening
MR2T inner axels, Camry outters (I think alltrac outters may work as well but you need to verify this) - not sure of the years. It works for 6th gens too. Mina and Kuya both have MR2T trannies right now. Mine is going in at this very moment.
