Hello....My brother its been a member of 6gc.net and i like very much the site and i`m watching almost all the topics. My brother has Celica 96 SSII JDM Specs imported from Japan. My first car was a 94 Honda Prelude 2.2 Vtec JDM with A LOT of mods and my current car is a 97 Subaru WRX JDM.I`m planning to get a 99 CELICA SSIII VVT-i JDM those days(i recently blow up my WRX Engine) and i`m looking for a reliable car like Celica.I found 99 Celica SSIII and i will check it again at tomorrow and i want to ask if somebody can compare it with Honda RSX or ever race one RSX.

Thank you very much smile.gif smile.gif rolleyes.gif

It would be a good race. I think the RSX weighs more, but its got a bit more horsepower as well.

but, if you are planning to import from Japan why not go for a GT-FOUR? you've already been spoiled by AWD, from your WRX, so why not step up to the Toyota equivalent?

Please checkout the links above for RSX reference.

The SIII you will get will have the 3SGE VVTi engine which is 210HP.

I believe that both cars will run neck to neck. But I suspect that the RSX will have a slight advantage due to Vtec and vehicular setup. The engine might rev more freely and the chassis might be setup for racing unlike the celi.

Also, the race will depend on how you launch, and drive the car on the rpm scale which include shift points and so on.

I have never drivened both, so I would be surprise if a video is post with such a race on a drag track which is legal. Get what I mean!!!:D

I will admit that you can get more bang out of the 3SGE engine than with the Honda engine.

Check out www.todaracing.com and others like JUnauto.co.jp and so on.

Use search engines like www.google.com to find out if this is so.

I dont want to go for a Turbo again,i already had enough problems with the WRX,I know WRX is VERY FAST car you only put exchaust system and air filter and you easily notice the different BUT its not reliable,i have this car for 6 months and before few weeks ago i heard a rattle in the engine and the engineer said its a problem with the 3rd piston. The car is still working fine and still have FULL boost but it rattles at 3500 rpms so i dont want to go for Turbo anymore and i`m trying to sell it.I was thinking to repair it and keep it but i`m watching my brothers 6g Celica he is driving the car for almost 3 years now and ITS TROUBLE FREE!Even my Prelude wasnt so reliable than the Celica.I`m really confused about cars(i`m driving fast cars for over 6 years now) but WRX REALLY SUCKS i prefer reliability than performance.I`m thinking to get a natural inspired car now and i`m in the middle of RSX and SSIII.

IMO i think that the 3s-ge or 3s-gte is a way more reliable engine. and toyota in general has long lasting personalities.

but one thing. i know why your wrx engine crapped out. boost wear's down an engine a lot faster than N/A does. and full boost you are really inviting meltdown unless you have some internal parts to help the engine cope with all the pressure.

I only have HKS SSQBV ,SARD Air filter and Greddy PE Catback Exchaust nothing more and i was pushing the WRX only until 6000RPM NOT MORE,never. My prelude was hitting 9600 and sometimes 9800 RPM(with Skunk2 camshafts and valvetrain upgrade) but stock was running at 7800RPM and was fine for 5 years and believe me i was driving this car like mad i upgrade everything on it,and also my brother`s Celica SS2 i`m pushing it almost until 7000RPM and its perfect but listen this, i was thinking to keep the WRX and upgrade the stroker kit with JUN and make it 2.2 but what for?Lets say it i`ll keep working for 12 months?18 months without problem?I dont think so,everybody tha gots WRX its trying to sell it beacuse if they dont have problems with engines they have with gearbox.I know about the GT4 and an import dealer near to my town he is selling one(white color) with body kit,the car its a beauty but what is worrying me its the Turbo.Something else that its worrying me about the Celica is that you cannot find easy aftermarket performance parts like the Hondas or WRX what do you think about that? This is worrying me beacuse i love to upgrade my cars for some extra hp.How much do you think i can push the SSIII?Is there ECUs or camshafts? What you suggest?

There are alot of parts for the 3SGE.

Check out TurboCharger project from scrap for Do-IT-Yourself . There is come valuable info there.

But look here.

The problem that you may have is that you do not understand stressful engines.

You need to treat the car like a baby.

I have a 1986 Subaru with minor mods and I push the car pretty hard. The same thing use to be with my BZ 4AGE 20v Blacktop.

Every day, I check the oil level and so forth.

When you reach a certain level, these are the thing that you must do.

You can use a Motec 4 or 48 OR the Autronic SM2.

Check the link that I sent you.

The 3SGE is very we supply in Japan with aftermarket parts.

Good luck and do some research.

Thank you again for your post wst-minist and i checked the urls you gave to me but only todaracing and junauto links work.Maybe i`m not expert at stressful engines but i think i know some basic things smile.gif checking the oil 2-3 times a week not moving the car before waarm up etc but boxer(wrx) engine its so sensitive that it doesnt worth it.I`ll make a better research about the SS3 and i think soon i`ll be a member of 6gc.net wink.gif I trust celicas very much, more than hondas.
If you have any other links for modifications and appearance please send them to me.
Thank you.

Ok. I updated the link again.

You will find valuable info there.

Best of luck.

If not, just look into purchasing a Skyline GT 2.0L since you are getting your car from Japan. There cost the smae price as a SIII. biggrin.gif
