anyone know the easiest and most effecient ways to go about reducing the weight of a 6th gen celi (specifically ST)... and i wann keep my back seats for now... may remove in a few months... but any ideas would be really helpful biggrin.gif

You cant really reduce too much weight without ending up gutting alot of stuff......but a good place to start is by taking out your spare from the trunk, as long as you dont mind not having it. Then maybe getting lighter wheels, CF hood.....uhh.....and not loading your trunk up too much with heavy audio stuff like oversized sub enclosures and amps that weigh a ton.
celi_gt_racer
yeah.. ive given that a little thought .. and i would like a CF hood somewhere in the future... could take out the spare and the jack... does anyone know if taking off the plastic panels in the trunk would help any at all... and any other ideas would be nice biggrin.gif

pul the carpet outta your car, carefully...youll have to take the seats out. you will find big nasty bubbly sheets of stuff same color as your car, this is sound deadening, and it heavy heavy, so if you dont mind the niose, grab a hammer, chisel, and heat gun and pull that shi* out! My friends car had 45 pounds of the stuff in it!!
celi_gt_racer
geez... do u think u can replace that stuff with some dynamat or somethin that weighs less?.... anywayz.. i didn't know that... thx for some ideas... and keep em' comin biggrin.gif

go on a diet, the driver counts as weight too!

Where can I find how to remove my rear seats?
Silver94CelicaOwner
umm.....just start tearing. biggrin.gif Actually, take it one bolt at a time, im pretty sure it just starts at the front of the seat and then you can figure it out from there if you really wanna get rid of it.
TurboGT14PSI
i have the 60/40 splits in my coupe, and there are bolts on the bottom of the back rests, and two? bolts on bottom of the bottom part of the seat, it takes about 15 mins to get it out =) its really easy
TRDDawg
Yeah I didn't know how to remove them because I believe its not in the owners manual? Well anyway how much do the rear seats weight?
TurboGT14PSI
actuall not much, i think mine weighed like maybe at most 15 pounds
TRDDawg
15 pounds?! Then whats the point of taking it out then? 15 lbs won't do anything.
TurboGT14PSI
yeah not alot, i took mine out when i was clearing away that nasty sound dampening crap =)
celicaboy95
when i put in my custom CAI i pulled prolly a good 10 maybe 15 lbs from the airboxes. plus it free'd up the engine bay a ****load. if ya do this you'll be increasing power and taking out some wait and it'll only cost ya like $90 if you use the "how to" article from this site. good luck

actually the rear seat assemblies weigh closer to 30lbs. I took mine out for reupholstering and i weighed them when i got bored. i can tell a difference because i have my whole rear gutted. no plastics, carpet, spare tire, jack, seats. it all adds up when you get down to it. its not really worth it though. cause now i cant make sweet love in the back of my car without getting poked in the back by something metal. then again i am usually the only one back there! tongue.gif

Someone needs to link to that article where they chopped up the car lol. I can't remember much about it, but the car was white (a ricey civic or something) and i think the article was called "from zero to hero".

Then again i'm pretty drunk atm I cant be sure biggrin.gif

LOL, i think i remember that article. Wasnt it in turbo or something? I think in the end they decided to cut off the roof to help with weight reduction plus, what chicks dont dig a convertible? LoL, couldnt make much love in it tho, if i recall it was basically 4 wheels, an engine and a little bit of frame n such.

It was a Sentra. This Sentra Gets Gutted All To Hell.

Weight Reduction....hmmmm......remove Spare tire, bumper reinforcements, and seats. Convert to CF hood, CF trunk, CF fenders, CF doors, and remove all glass replace with lexan glass! Pretty much of what you can do so far biggrin.gif
celi_gt_racer
didn't know we could get CR doors or fenders ... but i really like the sound of a CF hood... uuuuuuhhhhhhhh :: drool ::.. wish brian would give me his biggrin.gif
Milds3vn
wow CF doors would be so expensive, some of that stuff would cost as much if not more than just doing a turbo and fighting weight the other way. I know the CRX weighs like 1900lbs or something, so what imports are between that and 2400lbs like our cars, well STs. It seems like our cars are some of the lightest imports out there, am I right? What about suspension components? Are there any lightweight alternatives for us?
