Which states that the 3rd Gen has a "shimless bucket"

Looking at the pictures here

http://www.rossmachineracing.com/3sbucket.html

Shows the difference between the 2nd gen 3SGTE bucket and the MRS bucket

My Buckets look like the MRS bucket but with a removable shim (on the underside) that I could change to alter the thickness without buying whole new buckets.... now the only trick is to source a "shim" from somewhere shouldn't be toooo hard.

Preguntas? Problemas? Comments?

I will append my own posting.....

also from the same toyota nation posting

Q: Whats shimless or shim under bucket lifters?
A: The stock bucket weighs 1.6 oz. & the MRS(MR Spyder) weighs 1.03 oz. That is a weight savings of 35.5%. When high lift cams are used with stock lifters it has caused the shims that are used for adjusting cam/lifter clearance to fly out. This eliminates that by eliminating the shim all together. That lightens the valvetrain weight and allows higher RPM limits.

I could have told you that... wink.gif Same goes for the n/a 3SGE's also and the 16V 4AGE versus the 20V 4AGE. Almost all of the newer toyota engines... say 92-93 and up changed over to under bucket shims... then say around 2000+ they removed the shim completely... However this information is only useful if you plan on running some really knarly cams.

Well i have to re-shim everything so... I'm going to guess the MRS buckets will be easier to find - and lighter than the 3rd Gen Bucket/Shim combo
lagos
you can get shims from toyota... at least you can for the 2nd gen.

Yessir - you can get 2nd gen shims and MRS Buckets - 3rd gen 3SGTE as I learned has shim under bucket that on first inspection is not shared with any other motor platform stateside

You can get the shims from Toyota World, but you will need to know the Shim # and could possibly take months to get.

If you nicely ask a member from the UK, you might be able to get them much faster. Wolf TM was kind enough to offer to help me and told me each shim would be around 3.5 Euros. I lucked out and found someone local to me with a spare Gen 3 head with shims.

Are the buckets different between 1ZZ and 2ZZ cause the bucket that showed up last week is too small.... it fits inside my old buckets actually.... UGH

Should you find a platform that does use these shim-under buckets, let me know. I've got a fairly load valve tick that will probably need some shimming.

If I do successfully change over to these shimless buckets you are more than welcome to my old shims - I'tll cost you a 6 pack of Oberon or so....

Thats a deal!

They're not listed as different in my books... so maybe not... although I tend to think they would be different. The 2ZZ/1ZZ buckets are listed to be 31mm compared to the 3SGTE (1994 MR2 turbo specs) at 28mm.
