someone said it has VVT (not VVT-i)
I think It might have 'electronic timing advance'

well I knew about the ACIS, but what about 'electronic timing advance'? because the celica models up to 96 had manual adjustment*

I believe electronic timing advance is just a fancy word for saying the ECU intecepts the signal to the ignition coil, and judging from the air temp reading or MAF reading it will advance or retard timing.
Ive heard of people with the Altezza (also 3SGE) replacing their air temp sensor with a variable resistor (dimmer switch thing) in order to manually adjust timing.
If your valve cover does not say BEAMS, you dont have VVT (variable valve timing) in any shape or form.
