Just wondering, what made you all decide to switch from whatever you WERE driving, to a 6g. thought it would be interesting to hear from you all.
Ill Start. i had a toss up between a 95 GT a member Pimped6gen was selling, or a 99 mustang V6 5 spd. couldn't afford the 6g. so i bought the mustang. i've always liked them anyway. but i should've just waited till i could afford the mustang GT. (V6 was kinda under powered, and poor mpg)
So i went from a 94 Geo Metro 5spd, to a 99 Mustang V6 5 Spd, to my two 6g's. one Red Gt Auto Hatch. and One Turquoise GT 5Spd Hatch.
Had to sell the mustang because of the unbelievable amount of Rust i had on it from being in NY all it's life.
....next!

I had an 89 Corolla!
Only had the drivers side mirror for some reason! lol Had no choice, it's what my parents bought for me. Then I traded it and bought my 6gc. Which was a car that I just loved exterior wise, plus we were a Toyota family. So as of today it's my DD and I have a 95 Supra hibernating in the garage.

repost...
91 ford ranger xlt black 5 spd 3l v6 (totalled) (I bought)
89 ford tempo (blew frost plug, junked it) (parents bought)
84 pontiac 6000 (sherman tank) (destroyed it on purpose, $400 beater) (dad bought)
86 mitsubishi mighty max 4x4 (blew the engine, replaced it, sold it) (i bought)
78 chevy 1/2 ton c/k (in between all vehicles) (dads truck)
98 PLYMOUTH neon coupe 1.8l SOHC auto FTL (sold) (i bought for some reason, didn't realize i had the crappiest one until it was too late)
95 curren black 3sge auto (wifey's) (i bought)
95 celi hatch white 3sge auto->manual converted (mines) (i bought)
got to japan, got the curren ($1200, which is exactly what i sold the neon for), i was on the lookout for a car for me, and had my eye on a 2jzgte aristo, but the guy wanted $5k for it, and he told me that he had a celica that he was getting rid of and showed me a pic of it on his phone. he brought it over to my house for a test drive, my wife and i loved it (now she hates it), so i bought it... $2300. same engine as the curren but tuned differently and the suspension is completely different.

Cars I've owned, from oldest to latest.
-1988 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 V6. Miss that car to bits. Sold it as the floor was rotting
-2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. Totalled.
-1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST. Bought 12400$. 5000$ in repairs and 2 trannys later, I sold it for 9k exactly a year after I bought it.
-1995 Toyota Celica GT-S. Bought in september '06 with 142k km. Total amount of repairs and/or breakdowns since then : 0.
The Celi and the Eclipse have never been driven in the winter (people use salt on the roadshere so it eats up the car real quick) so I've had my share of winter beaters :
-1995 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 auto. 3 headgaskets in 60000km, and that thing was well taken care of.
-1993 Ford Escort 1.9 manual. Bought for 500$ including push start button made out of a doorbell button. 2 months later, brake lines blew, I'm ok, nothing happened. A friend offered me 300$ to go destroy it in a sand pit.
-1992 Honda Civic CX hatch 1.5 non-vtec auto. Meh. Point A, point B.

drove my parents 2000 dodge intrepid they sold it talk about a boat on wheels. quick though.
parents then got a 02 monte carlo. very fast but not my thing
bought my 97LE celi. drove that for 10 mo til some stupid %&^*( pulled out in front of me and totalled it.
week later i found my 99 gt.
my next car will probably be an older 4runner to drive in the winter with the celi garaged. only time will tell
That's still about the same except the last part. I got a pickup instead of the 4runner and I'm looking at getting a 300zx now.

64 Pontiac Catalina 4 dr sedan met. blu/wh w/blue int 100,000+mi wouldn't stay running for 20mins on the road.
77 Celica GT hatchback metallic blue, white/black int., 5spd, rear window shade, rear-ended at 127,000 miles by kids racing. What Toyota Quality was all about, Fun, incredibly reliable, how Mustang II's could have looked like.
85 Corolla GT-S coupe red w/black int., 5spd, Limited slip diff. Incredible top-end.
90 Celica ST coupe super white w/blue int., 5spd, when it was new 75mph and 40! miles to the gallon currently 230,000mi
97 Ford Taurus GL bought used at 60k $3000+ in three years on repairs, gave it to the scrap yard at 130,00 miles due to loss of overdrive gear and brake lines rusting out. (further inspection showed rockers rusting-jack went through.)
97 Celica GT Convertible hott! bought used 110k miles super white w/black int., 5spd, 8 spkr stereo, American Racing Estrella wheels from PO -much nicer than stock. Current best mpg is 32mpg.

Damn 97 - that's quite the list. So since you have exstensive driving experience with a
wide variety of vehicles - how would you rate the Celica in comparison for say handling, power [I know you're 7A but tell us anyway], looks and overall. How about your other Toyotas?
just looking for an opinion from someone qualified to give one
[I think the Celica is the best overall vehicle ever made but looking at my list of previous cars I'm probably the least qualified to give an opinion as every car I've ever bought for myself has been at the very minimum a Celica GT and almost every other car I've bought has been a Camry or tC so...]
