I really want a carbon fibre trunk. Ive been looking at the one made at VIS.

Link: http://www.visracing.com/oldcatalog/produc...roducts_id=3703

To anyone who has this trunk, i would love to learn from your experiences.

My questions are these:
How well does it fit?
Trouble fitting the window?
The "outside" looks great, but how does it look on the inside?

Any other thaughts?

Thank you.

(Ill take some pictures and post here when im closer to a finish.)

What is the price of this?

i know some people here have it,, and it IS lighter than the steel hatch but i think most would agree its only worth it if you get a custom light weight lexan plastic window made for it......

There are 2 problems with cf or fg trunks... Latch and glass. the latch cannot support much stress, otherwise it'll break. it can hold the weight, but there is a reason the carbonfiber and fiberglass are lighter than the OEM material, and that's because it's less dense. Making it more breakable. Same problem with the backglass, it's massive and heavy... The idea of the lexan is a good idea for this. Becareful with the latch. Does it already come pre installed?

there are no issues with this hatch since we had them made several years ago.

the only thing it CAN NOT support is a spoiler.
OEM Glass and parts are good to go.

I thought so - and yet I saw one with a spoiler installed the other day in pics. Not a good idea IMO.

I'm not saying this one is bad, It's just simple fact that carbon fiber is not as durable as our OEM trunks. Too many times i've seen CF and FG trunks break due to slamming or being sat on (or various other objects being placed on them) It's just that i've seen more break than stand.

Or maybe i just know excessively violent & angry people laugh.gif

So, to what youre saying it can not support a spoiler?
My problem is that the CF hatch is a hell of alot cheaper that a new one bought from Toyota here in Norway, yes even with taxes, shipping and all, so it would be great if I could get that one instead.
But Ill miss the spoiler too much, so I guess Ill have to look further for a used one.

Thanks for the answers!

im debating on installing my spoiler on the c/f hatch or not. Since is not daily driven, is a show car, but still dont know how strong it will hold. I might have to make some metal plate brackets.

If it's by VIS and anything like the hood, I wouldn't install the spoiler. I asked this on FB with no replies.

I wouldn't suggest installing a spoiler unless its a duckbill.
I didn't have these designed for tons of load and a real spoiler should bolt to frame (center mount).

That being said, if its the oem gt4 style with riser blocks you probably won't break it.
That thing doesn't make tons of downforce and especially at <75mph.
I would suggest some addition bracing if possible though

im just going to wait until "carbon microsystem" makes the trd style spoiler/wing. They already got one for the A86. or if I find at least the trd with the middle in carbonfiber.
