Putting this out there. If mods/admin wish to create a Members Ride/Car diaries section for member who wish to create a diary?
As certain members are putting it in General Chat and some are putting it in Multimedia.

ok completely off topic but i have to say i have the same fears... i mean... i get all my parts here... sell all my parts here... share all my knowledge and have learned so much...
i think it may be appropriate to start a little fundraiser for coomer... i mean hes kept this thing running for so long and doesn't even have a celica!!
with the permission of the Mods, i want to start a fundraiser for coomer... i think a lot of people would be happy to pitch in a few bucks to make sure this thing stays alive... i mean look how many people we have on here daily... members... if everyone pitches in a 10 spot... just a thought

my hands are pretty much tied up at this point as far as the site is concerned.
its really starting to feel like the old celica.net site that ended up leading to this site, and later celicatech being created because of this very kind of problem. (the og's will know what im talking about here)

Don't worry guys! A good portion of those members who keep this site alive sold their Celicas a long time ago
. It's a really good site, and for every member who sells their Celica, there is a new Celica owner. New Celica owners are going to be the future of the site, so for those current owners who decide to sell their Celicas, please take 6gc.net into consideration and watch who you sell your car to

I've mentioned to Coomer multiple times about a paid membership with extra benefits: larger PM box, more pics, Premier Members only where there are no 'rules' really.... They did this on my350z.com and it works awesome. I paid $30 for a year and the 'anything goes' section alone is worth the money. Also we get a little "premier member' emblem under our name.

IIRC Coomer went into the chatroom around a year ago and there were only 2 or 3 ppl in there at the time. Hope he doesn't think that was a sign of things to come!! It was late at night like around midnight. He said the basics--"Hi how's it going?"...etc. IDK if he's tried since or still drops into chatroom.
I would also VERY MUCH consider an anual fee or donation to keep this site going. I mean I have learned some stuff from MANY of you individualy & reading threads. There is SO MUCH MORE to learn & share!!
The Haynes book is ok, but details aren't covered very well--this community fills in the blanks!!AND THEN SOME!!!
Parts, ideas, pics, feed back, YOU FOLKS, etc-- CAN NOT BE REPLACED!! 6GC is a FANTASTIC SITE!
WOOTS to the mods for ALL THEY DO also!!!!

I don't want ANY ownership-- I have no qualms paying dues!!

I think what we really need is to switch gears completely. We have all (well old farts anyways) been on this site since basically day 1. It would be a good idea to take 6gc.net and make it a 6gc.net club welcoming old members back with other cars. Face it lads... celica is an aging car and there is no substitute for it. 90% of people on this forum could not afford to purchase a new celica (if we were to commission some shop out there to actually build brand new 6gc celicas) and 90% of those who left are driving another car. We need to give them a reason to come back. Since our community is a friendly community but its not a "royal following community"... our community is an aging community.
Think of low riders. Does not matter what car you drive as long as its a low rider and is 1900-1980 car. Think of drifer cars. Does not matter what make or model but those lads end up having a heck of a fun time every weekend. Think of mud racers and rally enthusiasts and other car nieches where people kind of huddle together.
We rarely have get together events and when we do we usually have questionable turnout. Not like usa is a small country or island nation where there are 100 celicas and all 100 come. That aside I think one of the reasons why we are loosing members is because there is no upgrade for a celica... well there is the 7th generation but we all know that 6gc is the best celi ever.
I keep bringing up mutsubishi evolutions (partly since I can practically taste the smell of my future car) but their community is like a cult. Does not matter if you drive evo 1 or evo 10.. you are a part of a special nieche of enthusiasts. In many ways it builds community, especially if your first car was evo and your next car will be evo and your car after that will be an evo etc and all evos kind of flock together. I learned it first hand since I attend evo meets all the time. Here in florida (where we cant seem to properly organize a celica meet) there are several chapters of evo club and they all meet several times a year with a huuuuuuuge turn out. Last one counted like a cajillion cars. All passionate and forever evo addicts.
With celicas.. I think we need to bring the old spark back.. well at least people like Ferdie should. They are the "us" from 2002. They just got their celicas and that new smell of an old car is still in their veins and their brains are filled with excitement.
In all truth I would not mind pitching in for a website and I am sure other members would too. We could call it the same thing but add a little sense of community into it. It is hard to make people do things they do not want... but regular meetings and outings and other miscellaneous events could potentially bring back our good old community from brink of extinction. Maybe 6gc.net stickers that we can give to all members to promote the site or something...
For 10 years I thought of ways to make our community active and after 10 years of theorizing I came to a conclusion that personal commitment is THE key to community's success.
Here is a link to what other car communities do on a regular basis.

You guys are failing to realize one thing.
It's not about money. If that were the case, the site would have been long gone a long time ago.
Chris has just decided it's not worth it to him to take the time needed to keep the site moving forward.
He's busy with other things.
It has been that way for a few years now, he just comes around less and less to the post where when the site goes down is the only time he is active now.
I have been trying to get him to do a "premium membership" kind of thing or somthing like that for years, to get more pics, more storage, pic hosting ect with nothing to show for it, other than him telling me there is plenty of server space, and allowing me the ability to upload files to be hosted on 6gc for the stickys.
It's frustrating for all of us, and it's a shame, because we have a great community of people here, that he created the forum for. It is his vision that brings us all together.
No one wants to see this forum wither and die, and as long as the site is hosted and functioning, I don't see that happening , but we as a community deserve to know IF the site will exist in the future at least.

I have been riding my mongoose xr200. Spring, Summer and Fall usually 15-20 miles every day. Here in my gated community we have 26+ miles of paved trails in the forest and while I am a lazy shmuch it was a perfect substitute for when I quit playing video games. After riding 7 days a week I lost 16.5 lbs, gained muscle tone, a tan and overall I actually enjoy riding now. Its starting.... that is kinda iffy. I am taking my 3 month break right now because it gets dark early but will resume in march. I will be riding my bike to work. My new office will have showers there so I will save a ton on paying for gas like I am right now with my 50 mile round trip commute.

I don't mind the guy having other projects, but I just wish he would jump on here and fess up that he's long lost interest in the site, instead of giving us some BS excuse about how busy he is.

agreed, art.
for example, i posted back in october, in the mod forum, about rusty helping reworking the stickys.
not a single word from chris.
meanwhile, just YESTERDAY, he blogged on pedalroom about working on the site to make it faster.
it's a shame to let the future of this site just kinda fall by the wayside.
we've got some great people working on things for the celica that were never available back in the day, and guys that have been around since the beginning helping out people when noone else knew how.
guys like tweak, who've been around since the beginning, and guys like vincent, the guys at rtp, wolfie, ect who are taking over for and going beyond what guys like doggy ect did for us as a community. just to name a few.
i've known we've been driving blind for a long time now, and i've been communicating via PM with lots of diffrent members old and new about various ideas, suggestions, requests ect for the site, which unfortunately my reply 99.9% of the time ends up being "sorry, thats the kind of thing only chris can take care of" and its sad that there is nothing i can do about it.
as the guy who ends up looking and feeling like the bad guy because of my "position" on this site, it sucks to know at the end of the day, it really dont make a diffrence at all, because the guy i am supossed to be helping out really dont give a good sh*t about the site anymore.
its really just getting old at this point.

I propose the creation of a back-up site, and letting EVERYBODY know of it. Put dedicated members from here in charge of it (I nominate Michelle, being the sexiest beast of us all, to run the website since she knows how). That way, if this page ever comes up as site not found...we at least have a meeting place to try and recover information and membership. If need be, we can make that the new 6gc.net in case this site fails. We need a place to carry on this community.

If we make a "backup site" we might as well just make a new site to move onto on our own. Problem with things like that is that we will loose a lot of members as some people will either not get the memo or not want to move.
This similar thing happened with celica.net back in the day. The moderators had issues with the sites owner not being involved, so one day they just had enough an created celicatech, copied any important posts over, and deleted just about everything on the old site.
If this place ever explodes, I'll probably just be on celicatech.
Worst part about all of this is that I sent chris a msg over twitter saying that 6gc doesn't know what its like to have a sys admin, and sadly he just ignores that and any msgs people send him about this site and doesn't even bother to come in here to see whats going on.

Sorry guys, I'm a terrible admin.
I simply can't find the motivation to work on 6GC any more. My other big site, my girlfriend, and my job consume all of my attention. I'm still as busy as ever, except I sleep a lot less now so I can get everything done. It's 12:41am right now - I have to be up at 4am to finish up some last minute work.
6GC is currently on a stable server along with a couple of my other sites. I have great incentives to keep the server up, as well as a responsibility to at the very least keep this site up. That's why when it's down, I do fix it. When the chat was bringing down the server, I had to remove it. I owe it to you guys to make sure the awesome amount of knowledge and community that this site contains doesn't disappear.
About the chat, it's a very old piece of software, and it's written in a way that it isn't efficient, especially given the technologies available today. I should have re-written it, but I just do not have the motivation and spare time to do so. Realistically, it probably won't come back online - the server cannot handle it and re-writing it is a ton of work. About other feature requests, again, I don't have the spare time and drive to work on this site, or several of my other sites.
I'm sorry. I don't know what to do. I've got to sleep, but I'll think about this...

Chris, none of us care about the broken chat feature. We just want a system admin/owner to be around to make even the simplest site requests that the community asks for (adding a new forum, or promoting mods or whatever). The type of stuff that takes 5mintues of an interested administrators time to do. With you being not interested anymore, it prevents the community from growing.
I know you promise to pay the bills and keep the lights on, but honestly a lot of us are worried that the guy paying the hosting bill has zero interest and engagement in the site, one day it could just go away without notice.

its ok to sleep, i do it sometimes, but is there another way we can help, i mean some changes can be done by someone who knows, and pretty sure somebody in the site, can do it.
This site has the potential, lets not waste it. We are doing things with cars that have no aftermarket support, and we kick ass....
just going to celicatech does not cut it, and a new site not good. 6gc to me was the first forum i have ever been that is interesting just to read and laugh and learn. I had never touched a car before, in the way 6gc has tought me, i have touched my car in places i would never have dreamt of, lol
somewhere else is just that, somewhere else.
We dont need state of the art forum, we need the simple stuff. Pics, ability to change things, etc.

Coomer, good to see you posting, I have to say. Now, while you're here, why not make a deputy admin? Again, I think Michelle (GriffGirl) should be put in charge of managing the web site as far as modifications and code goes. That way, Coomer will still be in control, but then there's somebody to take care of our requests, and there are quite a few.

^ Smart man. Michelle (Griffgirl) is VERY capable of handling the code needed to cover the requests of fellow members.

In all honesty, I think Coomer should hand the site off free of charge to Manny. This site has zero advertising and generates no income. Its only value is its loyal users that made it what it is over so many years.
The saddest part about all of this is that the changes that people want are 5minutes and 3 mouse clicks away from happening. And yet we can't even get that much to happen.
i know there is no income or advertisment, but whenever i do post up a new mood or status on myspace or facebook i put
6gc.net after every post....and almost everyone asks me about and goes and checks it out!
so i mean i try to a certain extent, but no where near enough! and thats what is really sad...

I don't think that's what lagos meant by advertising. I think he means that the site doesn't have banners and pop-ups for other companies showing up anywhere on the site. Other websites make money by advertising for a company on their website somewhere. But 6gc doesn't do that, which is nice, but since we don't have that, 6gc.net doesn't generate any income.
