this may be a dumb question but i've been looking around for awhile now and havn't had much help finding a close manual 5 speed tranny for my 7a but i was wondering if a 5s tranny would bolt up to a 7a engine? any help would be great. thanks guys
SwissFerdi
No.
NOVAKx17
thats really unfortunate. there are so many around here it isn't even funny. it sucks that i can't even find one compared to the 50 5s trannys
Smaay
i cant confirm but i have heard that the C60 in the 7th gen Celica bolt pattern is very close. you might be able to make that work. and its a 6 speed
NOVAKx17
Hmm really? if anyone can confirm this that'd be kind of awesome.
SwissFerdi
I've heard that before as well. Be my guinea pig and do it.
NOVAKx17
hmmm... its very tempting.. it would be kinda sweet to have a 6 speed. ha

its close but not worth it in my opinion to be running like dat

NOVAKx17
really? ha. seems like itd be pretty sweet to me, but i'm just looking to get rid of my auto tranny and go back to standard transmission ha. miss it
stephen_lee
it'll bolt up. but the ratios wont be...optimal. it'll work, though.
NOVAKx17
what kinda gas milage do you think you'd get with a six speed tranny bolted to a 7a?
95CelicaST
The c160 (ae111 6 speed) and c60 (zzt231 6 speed) will both bolt up fine.

Ratios:

Trans 1st. 2nd. 3rd. 4th. 5th. 6th. Final.

C56 3.16 1.90 1.39 1.03 .81 n/a 4.31
C60 3.16 2.05 1.48 1.16 .91 .72 4.52

C160 is identical to the C60
SwissFerdi
So would the C60 be a good match for the 7A-FE, or for a 7A-FTE setup for that matter? Those ratios mean nothing to me. I'll do some research, but maybe somebody can already shed some light?
NOVAKx17
i'd also like to know the same as what ferdi asked... in the future i'd love to turbo my 7a, and i'd also love to have a 6 speed trans. . so would that work out okay? thanksss smile.gif
95CelicaST
At 3000rpm on the c160/60

With a generalized tire size of 205/50R-16

In MPH
1 15
2 23
3 32
4 40
5 52
6 66

6th gear @ 3.5k - 77

And I'm not doing the math on a C56, if you guys don't know then you have problems.
NOVAKx17
wow, for real? how can it be that bad?

that really upsets me haha
95CelicaST
That's pretty on par with the S54.
NOVAKx17
i feel retarded . i definatley read that last set wrong haha.

any ideas how it would hold up to being turboed?
SwissFerdi
Thanks Matt. Might I ask how you arrived at those figures so I can do it myself in the future?

1. Wikipedia for ratios and final drives

2. Googled ratio speed calculator

3. Input data

4. ............

5. Profit!

And for giggles:

C56 at the variables above:

1 15
2 26
3 35
4 48
5 61

At 3.5k 71

S54

1 15
2 26
3 39
4 50
5 62

At 3.5k 73

I suppose it is worth noting that the 2ZZGE and the 4AGE are high RPM motors. That is where the power is with them. That is why their transmissions are geared like that.
