A bit of an increase lately in the spambots coming through. They are a bit of an annoyance, but no where near as bad as other ones we've had in the past.

I'd say I'm on here regularly (3x + a day?), so the posts/threads should get removed pretty quick. Plus I'm pretty sure it's only us mods who are after these special deals these guys keep posting about right?

Feel free to post in here saying there's a new spam thread/post for the time being, saves us getting 10 messages about the one thread.

Cheers
Rusty
cleared those spam posts

We are always going to get a bit of spam every now and then, still not as bad as having 90 posts by 1 bot or 6gc going down again is it?

Cleared the topics made by them, but if you see any posts in our normal topics I may have missed them

Anyway to limit new members from posting threads until they have rep?
Rusty
No, we don't have that sort of control, and cant see us getting something like that either. Plus it would only catch these types of spambots we have atm, not the ones who post 100's of times in our old threads.

There's about 30 of them right now, usernames all start with Paley
I'll get a screenshot

Other I.P. boards have it set to where the first few posts by new members have to be approved before they can post freely. That'd stop it once and for all.

Holy spam right now.
Box
Well, at least it's not to the point where there's eight pages of it....
Rusty

Thanks, Rusty. smile.gif

Ok, I think I've got a solution in place now that should help. smile.gif

A member's first post/posts will be hidden from the public and need to be manually reviewed by the mods. If approved (valid member), then that member can post freely. If deleted (spam or other some other form of trouble), then management can simply ban them.

And I also removed about thirty registered but yet-to-post spam accounts, and patched some security issues in the third party forum software that I think allowed this to happen in the first place.

So, we'll see how things go in the next few weeks, but I'm pretty sure that things should be better on the spam front! smile.gif
