Hello 6GC,

*EDIT*

So...after doing what I did, and learning more about a 6GC, I realized that I wanted a 96+; LE or Anniversary preferred. I just really love the face lift that it got, especially the fog lights! After saving up a little more money and doing some searching, I found one just a six hour drive away. I stole the projector lights from my '94 and happened to realize that the shifter in the '94 was actually a TRD Quickshifter (I thought the previous owner just bought the shift knob). I also took a couple of the rear interior trimming as some were in better shape. I'm in the process of replacing all the plastic fasteners and bolt coverings as I am a little OCD about those kinds of things.

My newly used '97 previously had a little guardrail incident and got a little fender damage on the passenger side, and also lost her sidemarker. I wanted to replace the fender with one of the two sets of fiberglass fenders that I own, but I realized that I liked the OEM look a lot better. Here are some pictures of some progress I made:

Sadly, the previous owner of the '94 just cut the 9006 harness and just spliced in an H4 harness. They also didn't convert the projectors to LHD. Currently don't drive at night as I am waiting for my harnesses to come in and love the look too much to change back.

Now for some questions:
I prefer the older two point spoiler much better than the three point and am thinking of just taking the whole trunk door off the '94 and placing it on my '97. Has anybody done this before? Will they fit flawlessly? If so, how do I disconnect this harness?

"ZOOM IN!!!!"

If the door won't fit, then I guess that blows.

I'm probably just going to part out the older Celica, so if anybody has any requests, feel free to post or PM me.

TO-DO LIST
-Projector high beams
-HID setup
-Front tire exchange
-Trunk door/air wing exchange
-SSIII front bumper grill
-ST202 riser blocks?
-New tires
-New OEM passenger fender

I recently purchased a '94 Celica GT (ST204) that isn't in working order. I don't have any car mechanic experience, but taking things apart and doing some research are some of my fortes.

I am the third owner of this car; the previous owner swapped the engine out, modded the car a bit, and added a turbo (163k body//~60k engine). Somebody stole the bumpers off the car and tried to steal the motor, so a lot of it is disconnected.

I just finished taking apart the interior, and am currently in the process of putting it all back together. There's a little bit of rust on the body, but I was thinking of taking a wire brush on a drill and hitting those spots with that.

Here are some pictures of the interior:

Now about the engine; I can't remember what the person I bought the car off of said he swapped it with. I was to say it's just another 5S-FE, but I could be wrong. I also can't seem to find the label that tells you, so if somebody could help me find that, I could give you the correct information. I do know he added a turbo and that there are several hoses cut, a couple nuts missing here and there, and also no distributor. I do have the original distributor from the original 5S-FE that came with the car including the spark plug wires. I was wondering if I had to use a different distributor since there's a turbo attached?

In regards to what is disconnected, almost all the fluids, the intercooler, the engine since there's no drivebelt, the radiator to the exhaust on the engine?, and several other things. I will gives links for pictures.

I'm just asking for some guidance from people who know specifically about this car, and I figure this is a good place to start.

Thank you!

Oh wow, definite a basket case. Its kind of hard to tell you what u need just based on pics because there is always stuff you will miss by not taking a picture. There are a couple of guys in your area that are familiar and a inspection will be better.

That turbo will need a ems or something connected to the ecu. Start by there. Check for intact wiring. Get a celica manual. Lots of beer and xanax, lol. On my phone pics are hard to see and to small.

I recommend you start by taking the engine out and giving it a thorough clean. Meanwhile you can inspect for missing parts in the engine and parts that have failed. It's a lot easier when you do that with the engine out.

Wow looking at pics on ipad..... Wow... That looks to be a 5sfe from an older celica. Definetely not from a 6gc. Lot of vacuum hoses are disconnected. Look at the vacuum diagram on the hood. As far as ems goes there are several. Read pressure2 post and others to see more specifics. But getting the engine out, testing for compression is a priority. However if you dont want turbo, have you considered a v6 swap, or hell even a beams, to save you the headache of going into a scavenger hunt for parts.

Dont know if it would be easier to get a pulled 5sfe from someone who already swapped... Than buying part by part...

I would go to a junkyard and pick up a running 94-95 5SFE with harness and ECU and just start from scratch.

Given the state of the engine bay and the fact that it looks like it was abandoned from for a bit of time, I would just start fresh. Whoever vandalized that car, already did half the work for you.....

I still maintain my position.

I would feel so much better (if I were you) driving your "P.O.S." around on a junkyard engine that has NEVER seen boost instead of worrying everyday about any damage that could have happened inside that current lump. The 5s is one tough cookie, but there are just too many unknowns on this one.

Hes got an engine...

^^^Well, there you go.
MAGutz
Is there an index of what size vacuum hoses I am supposed to use for certain parts?
njccmd2002
take one sample, and take it to yout local parts store. there should be a diagram under your hood for the routing.

For future reference, it's best to update in lower posts instead of striking through what you had previously up there. It makes things easier to follow.

As for the hatches, they should swap over without issues. If the connectors are different, just cut the incorrect connector off of the hatch side and replace with the correct one. Tip: if you are not experienced with electrical work/wiring diagrams, cut and splice one wire at a time so you don't get confused.

Good Luck!

I was able to do some work on my Celica this week; the harnesses for my projector lights came in and now I can drive during the night again!

I purchased these ceramic harnesses off of Amazon (specifically from JDMToy). I couldn't find the correct H1 harness and thought the H7 would work. Alas, the socket is too small and the corresponding male ends of the bulbs are too far apart. Luckily, I still kept the H4 harnesses from the '94 and just spliced that and the new 9006 ones together to get these:

Originally the antenna on the car didn't go down when the car was turned off, so I snagged that as well.

I was able to disconnect the harness for the liftback and the hose for the rear washer nozzle (located underneath the underliner) and was able to remove the older liftback with the two post spoiler.

Unfortunately, I did this part by myself because I was too excited to wait for my friend to help me remove it and I the liftback in two spots. I will be picking one up from the junkyard hopefully next week.

I drove about an hour away to check out a Celica that was being parted out. The photos on Craigslist looked like the center arm rest was of the larger style and I for one really dislike how low it normally is. The journey was a great success! I managed to also grab the little liner on the inside of the arm rest, a piece of the driver's seat trim, and a complete set of OEM Celica mats! There's a hole in the driver's mat, but I have a spare rear mat and will finagle a patch for the hole (pictures of mats to come).

^The condition is so pristine! No tears or anything. Feels. So. Good.

It's good to see you have those manuals on hand. They are the best thing a Celica enthusiast can have

I was a bit worried for you when you first started, but now it looks like you have a great little project going smile.gif And some epic parts too, what I wouldn't give for a TRD Quickshifter!!!

^This.

Keep up the great work!

I picked up some Celica goodies yesterday, but first, here are a couple photos:

^That GODLIKE center arm rest! Matching leather seats would make this picture even better.

^The Celica mats that I found the other day.

Now for the parts that I picked up the other day. ISpy anybody?

Finished installations:

^So FRESH and so clean CLEAN! I can't wait to polish these.

^Those panel covers.

The space underneath the rear strut bar is a perfect place to run some wires through. I currently have them coming from the space in the side panel where the seats actually latch into. Two of the bolts that secure the strut bar to the body were different and even the bolts from my '94 were different.
. . .
OCD...!!!

The guy I bought these parts from also had a TOMS lip in okay condition. I still might go grab it, but it would need some repair. As for the TRD sideskirts that I snagged, I'm not going to install them until I get out of the city. Gotta keep that **** clean. Also considering opening up the JDM lights and removing the amber...?

SIDENOTE: Does anybody have an extra JDM tail light harness?

And thanks for all the comments! I appreciate the fact that people are watching my progress and hope my final product will not disappoint.
bloodMoney
You don't need the JDM harnesses. The US ones will work just the same.
cheela
TOM's Lip! get it!!! hahahah.
yeah you don't need the JDM harness.

It was done by the previous owner. I had two subs in the back as well, but I think I may have fried either my amp/capacitor/both. kindasad.gif

I changed my oil the other day and found that my engine was leaking all over the place. I plan on rebuilding the engine in the future, but for now, I'll just fix the easy leaks. I figure a good place to start would be with the radiator hose as the leak coming from the top hose is obvious. Anybody have suggestions on high quality radiator hoses both silicon and metal? Does anybody have preference on what vacuum hoses they use?
