Does anyone know how long it would take for the rubber to dry out or deteriorate due to storage?
I know it would largely depends on storage method and environment, but I'm just looking for a ballpark figure.

I'm about to buy an uninstalled motor mount that I believe was manufactured in 2004.

I would guess that it's just fine, as long as it wasn't sitting outside in the elements or something.
The stress of being installed combined with the elements is what ruins the rubber.

Maybe you could call a dealer parts counter and ask them?

FWIW ten years is the maximum shelf life for tires stored in a dark climate controlled area. The rubber in engine mounts would be harder than tires so they should have a longer shelf life, so long as it was stored properly and it looks to be in good shape you should be ok. At any rate I think I might trust an old o.e. mount more than a new cheap aftermarket one.

Good suggestion, I'll do that before work.

That's my thought process behind this. And I'm limited in options because the driver side 7A mount is discontinued. I'm stuck finding new OEM parts on eBay that people forgot they had laugh.gif

It'll be better than what you have now by a long shot.

I just bought the mount. Just wanted to be sure there wasn't some drastic decrease in quality after a certain amount of time.

I anticipate no real issues from age like that. Now if it was like 30 years old yea sure probably not so good.

I seriously doubt you will encounter any issues related to an old but uninstalled rubber mount. These mounts get hot, cold and wet along with normal wear from movement etc.
