Hey all,
Have been having problems with my 94 Celica for nearly 2 months now and have had another post about it. Majority of the time the car is not starting, but every few days will work fine. It also runs fine once it does start.

The first shop I took it to said it was a bad fuel pump. So I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Still had same problem, so went ahead and changed the spark plugs out also. Problem continued and couldn't figure it out, so took it to another shop.

It has been there for over a week now with them trying to figure it out. They're telling me it's an ECM Fuel Relay? I can't find any info on this site or google about one. Curious if it's called something else more commonly or what's going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Took care of replacing the spark plugs. Car started up fine for the first two times, no long crank time. Now it's back to doing the same, cranking and not starting up. Sometimes if pumping the gas pedal, it'll kick on. Running out of ideas on this one.

So went and replaced the spark plug, and ran into a problem on #2. There's quite a bit of oil inside it around the spark plug. Also, having a lot of trouble getting it out. Seems to be a rubber piece or something that's stuck onto it not allowing the socket to go over it.

Well the car is back to not starting, yet again. Going to pull and check out the spark plugs once I get motivated to go out in this heat. Patience is running thin with the car that lack of transportation over the past two weeks caused me to lose my job.

So the fuel filter was replaced, which was a pain due to a seized up bolt. Picked up new PCV valve and also another piece that was broken that vacuum lines went into. Also cleaned the throttle body.

Car is back to starting up, it just has a long crank time and have to pump the gas to get it going.

Thanks. I found where it's supposed to plug into on the back of the valve cover, but it appears the plastic piece broke off from the valve cover where it plugs in.

Does anyone know the name of the piece on the valve cover that I would need to replace?

Any suggestions?

Autozone didn't have the fuel filter so I have to call around tomorrow to find one. Can a fuel filter be clogged enough that the car won't start up?

Tried searching through old threads with similar problems but can't find any situation that matches what's going on exactly. Puzzled that the car wouldn't start at all, then after a day or two of sitting, be able to start up after a couple tries, and then back to not starting at all.

fuel filter?

About to to try and go pick one up from the store and attempt to replace that.

Also noticed that there was a lot of noise coming from the intake when I can get the car started. It sounds like a loud hissing of air escaping from the intake manifold. Is there a vacuum line or something thats supposed to be attached? Currently there was just a 3 inch rubber tubing with a plastic connector on the end that leads to nothing.

Here's a picture of what I'm curious about:

Distributor was replaced in October so don't think it's that. Haven't touched the spark plugs since the car was running alright, so I'm assuming they're still in the correct order.

So been having problems with my 94 Celica GT starting up. Sometimes it will start up, but just has a long crank time. Other times it cranks and nothing. I took it in to the shop for a free estimate and they checked it, saying the fuel pressure was low and a new fuel pump would fix the problem. Instead of paying the ridiclous prices, went and installed a new pump at home. Car started back up on the second try and then on the first try the next time. Now it's back to it's original problem of not starting or taking quite a few tries.

Just wondering what else could possibly be causing this?

Ended up getting it towed to a local shop today. The car needed a new distributor. Went ahead and just having them fix it that they have the part in, hate to take the $380 hit but two weeks without a vehicle is long enough.

Thanks for all your input guys.

Checked out the relays, and they all look to be fine, although broke the plastic around the one while trying to pull it out.

How would I check out the RPM sensor?

The car just might have to be towed to the dealership that a lot of this stuff is over my head. Really not crazy about the idea of laying too much cash into the car with 190k miles on it though.

Checked fuses, all seem to be good. He pulled out the plug and put on a spark plug and touched it to a bolt to see if had any spark when cranked it.

Actually had a friend that is a little more mechanically inclined than I am check it out before I went and replaced anything. He pulled the line off the fuel filter and it spilled no gas. He also checked and it's not getting spark either. So little loss at the moment on what it could be.

Thanks for the response. Checked and didn't hear the fuel pump humming, so guess will start by replacing that.

Will update in a couple days when I can get around to doing it. Thanks again.

Hey all. So went to drive the 94 Celica yesterday, and stalled out on me when attempting to leave the complex. Wouldn't restart so had to push it back.

Anyway, seems like the engine isn't getting any fuel. The CEL has been on/off over the past few weeks. Attempted to read it to see what it could be, but it's not throwing a code, just a constant flash.

Tried checking the EFI relay to see if it looked burnt out or anything, but looks alright. Checked all the fuses that it could be and nothing seems to be blown. Can smell gasoline under the hood when trying to start the car, but still a no go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks all. I'll check out the Boston Acoustic speakers.

Samir, I'm over on the east side near Valencia/UCF. Those rims look GREAT on your car.

Hey all.
Just purchased a 94 Celica GT Hatchback last week, and figured I'd join the site that there seems to be tons of useful information here. I was able to purchase from the original owner, car has 178k miles and seems taken care of. Need to get working on basic tune up stuff over the next couple weekends.

So far I threw in a Panasonic head unit that I had to replace the stock radio. I also have two Alpine Type E 12"s powered by a Power Acoustik Area 51 (520x2) amp that will probably be on soon. I still haven't decided on speaker replacements for the doors. I'm probably not going to spend much, with the economy sucking and all. I'm thinking possibly Alpine Type S's but have no intentions of getting an amp for them anytime soon. So any other recommendations? I listen to mostly rap, if that helps.

Also considering throwing on stock Acura RSX 16's, I hate the steelies.

Anyway, it's a great car and I love it so far. I feel it was a good $1900 biggrin.gif

Now for the important part, pictures.
