Wondering if by some stroke of luck someone in the chicago area would have a 5s block (or whole motor I suppose) they would be willing to part with on the cheap.

I'd like to do a light build with some upgraded cams over a period of time so I can do it properly.

get a 5th gen and swap in a 3rd gen 3sgte... build to hearts content and enjoy a car that cost you a fraction of a 370z and will poop on it from every angle.

Still in the end its cheaper to work with what you have. Even if every mechanical part needed replacing it could be done cheaper than buying a new car... the only "benefit" to buying new is being able to stretch costs over a long period of time, but in the end you end up paying a boatload of money that you would have not paid if you just worked with the car(s) you have.

If you were to assign $500 a month to a "fixit" account for a period of 5 years you will probably have enough saved to buy a new car outright - even after fixing the this's and thats as they pop up... and at some point your going to work the bugs out.

Debt is nothing to play around with... its voluntary slavery, avoid it if at all possible...

after alot of head scratching I found that "whirring" noise was my alternator too. Its a bosch... perhaps I should put it on my ever growing "things to replace" list.

I've got one in green with some scratches etc. I won't be able to get any pics uploaded, just assume it to be in "below average" cosmetic condition, but no cracks or anything like that.

PM me your offer smile.gif

My desktop crapped out, now I'm on an ancient laptop that has absolutely everything that isn't 100% required disabled and still runs extremely slow - on top of not having a battery AND the cord doesn't plug in tight so its always turning off if I even think about moving it.

Looking for something with a decent battery and at least 1.2ghz CPU, 512k ram+... cheap is good!

Let me know if you have anything!

I've had some issues, but they are entirely related to being not so well maintained by the previous owner.

If you peruse other car forums from the mid/late 90's... you will find ALOT of "wow my car stopped working!" posts, and while there will inevitibally be some here, they are not so common.

Lately I've been seeing more "I totalled my car" more than "my car wont start"...

if crossing the line just about @ redline... it may or may not be beneficial to have shifted earlier. The extra power available may be negated by the time it takes to shift, but in the crap for top end 5sfe I'd say it would probably be worth shifting.

16's are really just a decent launch away.

To the OP, what mods do you have done, and do you know the approx weight of your car?

There are MUCH better swap options that bolt right up to the ST... the 5sfe is not worth it at all into an ST.

Wow a 17+... a reminder how slow these cars really are, everytime I accelerate the only thing rolling through my mind is "motor swap" "turbo"... smile.gif

pushed in the driverside rear piston and tested, doesn't seem out of order.

But I did notice the passenger side was warmer than the driverside, though not a dramatic difference it was noticeable... hopefully it wont return to the way it was...
